Return to Dark Castle ----------------------------- Hello, this is the first FAQ I have ever written. Return to Dark Castle is the long-awaited third chapter in the Dark Castle Series. It is a great game, my only complaint being that so much of the game is hidden away in secret rooms that most people would never find on their own, and the clues given are too obscure and inadequate. So, for those of us who don't have the time to run around every inch of the castle feeling for switches and placing bombs, but still want to experience the whole game, this list is for you. Secret Rooms List ------------------------- Breakout: Go to Great Hall, jump up on the platform with the knight statue, and press action to hit an invisible switch on the statue. This will open a door in the platform. Go back down and crawl next to it to enter. Airborne: Go to Ante Room, and walk up to the top and behind the dragon. Press up to enter a hidden door behind the dragon. Shield 1: Use a bomb to blow open the boarded-up room in Great Hall. Graffiti: Go to Fireball 1, and look for a small opening in the rock wall in the lower right corner of the screen. Crawl in front of it to enter. Game Room: Go to Trouble 3 and stand under the chute on the left side of the screen. Press up to enter. Belfry: Make it to the top of East Tower, and stand below to orb pedestal. Walk through the wall on the right. Torture Chamber: In Dungeon, you will see a coffin hanging from a chain. Stand behind it and press action to hit an invisible switch, which will open a hidden door. Casino: Make it to the end of the Swamp. You will see a boat in the water below the platform. Crouch next to it and then press down to get in the boat and float to the Casino. Mine Shaft: Go to Cave Dungeon and make your way to the bottom floor, and walk all the way to the right until you reach the cliff. Do a running jump into the wall across the pit. You will think you are going to hit the wall and fall to your death, but you will go right through the wall and into the Mine Shaft. Hedge Maze: Go to Courtyard, and look at the stone block on the platform above the fountain. One of them has a button on top. Jump on top of it to open the grate in front of the door to the maze. Olde Tower Basement: Go to Catapult, and make your way to the catapult's cogwheel. From its "sprung" position, crank it back 20 clicks. Then jump into the basket. It should launch you into the wall just above the haystack, breaking open a hidden passageway. Oubliette: Go to Library, and stand in front of the bookshelf on the lower left. Press action to hit an invisible switch and open the door. Witch's Cave: Go to Witch's Woods 2, and throw fireballs at the pile of wood clogging the entrance. Throw enough of them and the wood will burn away. North Tower: Go to Forest Guard Tower. Make your way around to the left side of the boulder, then stand as close to it as you can. Press action to hit an invisible switch to lower a rope. Climb up and jump across to the door on the upper right. Chapel: You will need the Gauntlets from the top of Giant Tree in the Hedge Maze. Go to South Wall 2, and climb up the slippery black rope to the switch on the right side of the screen, which will open the door. Graveyard: Go to Castle Grounds 2 at midnight. You can tell time by the clocks in Clock Tower and Library, and by the sky. When the moon is high in the sky and your day count at the bottom of the screen goes up by 1, it is midnight. The Graveyard gate opens for midnight for only a minute or so, and once inside, you can only stay until daybreak. Crypt 2: From Graveyard, make your way to Iron Spire, take the helicopter pack, and return to Graveyard. You will need a good supply of bombs, which you can drop from the air by holding duck & clicking the mouse. Bomb all the cross tombstones to open the gate. Underground River: Go to Castle Grounds. There is an almost-invisible switch at the extreme right edge of the screen, next to the exit. Use the action button to hit it and open the well. Pantry: Go to Kitchen. On the second floor, under the staircase, there is a barely-visible button on the wall. Hit it with the action key to open the door. Tricky Items ---------------- Crossbow: Find a guard, and freeze him with the power the Witch gave you. Then walk up and smash him with a hammer. He will drop his crossbow. You will need it to hit those dartboard switches, and to kill the big henchmen from a distance. Sword: Beat the Black Knight(I think). Tangled Roots Treasure: Find the giant tree that has fallen over. Crawl under the roots and place a bomb, then get away. After the bomb goes off, you will be able to crawl through the roots and out the other side into a cave. The treasure is inside. Bryant's House 2 Treasure: From the title screen, click on Training. Turn off the help windows and enter the house. You will need a bomb. Place it in the lower-left corner to open a crawlspace. The treasure is inside. Casino Treasure: From right to left, each slot machine gives a different prize. They are: Rocks, Elixirs, Potions, Bombs, Gas, and Keys. Each slot machine attempt takes 5 rocks. The object is to win a prize from each machine and leave it on the ground. Witch's Woods Treasure: You will need the Gauntlets from the Giant Tree in the Hedge Maze, and the Crossbow. Shoot the henchman with the bow and then climb up the slippery rope to the platform.
