My first goal for this guide is for you, the reader, to learn at least one new thing about BioShock Infinite. My second goal is to make the most comprehensive list of BioShock Infinite Easter eggs, references, secrets, and other easily missed items that you can find on the internet. In order to accomplish these tasks, I will list any Easter eggs, references, secrets, and other easy-to-miss things you can find in Irrational Games's BioShock Infinite. Every single item I list will include some information or history to explain why it is worth mentioning, and I will try to include a video link to a game play or walkthrough video on Youtube or an image. The videos and images are there to provide a visual representation of the Easter egg, reference, or secret for your convenience. Each item will be listed based on where it can be located in the game. Before you start reading about the hidden secrets of BioShock Infinite, let us brush up on some definitions. Easter Egg: a hidden message or inside joke Reference: something that mentions, refers, or relates to another thing Secret: something well-hidden The definition of Easter egg in particular seems to be misused by many around the internet. Some people will say "____" is an Easter egg while others will say it is not. In order to avoid this conflict (and messages telling me to change "Easter Egg A" into "Secret A"), I will not list each item as an Easter egg, reference, or secret. Instead, think of this list as "Things You Might Miss On Your First Playthrough". You can apply whatever title you see fit for each item listed. I recommend finishing BioShock Infinite before reading this guide because I mention major spoilers about the game's plot, and you can never fully enjoy BioShock Infinite's story if you know what happens! There are also some references to the first BioShock game as well, but don't worry about spoiling any major plot details if you have not played the game already. The truth is I have not finished the story of BioShock 1 myself, but I do understoond most of the references to the game in BioShock Infinite. I will try to list as many of these Easter eggs, references, and secrets as I can, but it is always possible that I miss a few of them. Please contact me if you notice anything missing from this guide. Finally, if you like this guide, and you are on GameFAQS, please click "Liked this FAQ? Recommend it to others!" at the top of your screen. This will help other people see this FAQ! Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let us dive into the world of BioShock Infinite! ***************************************************************************** ************************************WARNING********************************** ***************************************************************************** MAJOR SPOILERS OF BioShock Infinite FOLLOW! MINOR SPOILERS OF BioShock 1 FOLLOW AS WELL! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------Easter Eggs, References, & Secrets------------------[2]- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ================================= [A] Title Screen ================ ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [A1] The Konami Code | --------------------------------------------------- Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A Does this code look familiar? It is the Konami Code, a cheat code that has been used in video games since the age of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Although Gradius for NES was the first game to use the code, it is most known for its usage in the NES game, Contra. The code is usually included in video games to provide gamers with some sort of item, ability, or shortcut to make the game easier. In BioShock Infinite, the same idea holds true...for the most part. Inputting the Konami Code at the title screen of BioShock Infinite will unlock 1999 Mode if the gamer has not completed the campaign. This will allow the gamer to select 1999 mode when starting a new game. When this mode is selected, the video game will provide the following explanation for the mode: "This hardcore mode is for the best of the best." 1999 Mode allows the gamer to play through BioShock Infinite's campaign with the game's hardest difficulty mode. This mode doesn't particularly change the core gameplay of BioShock Infinite, but it makes slight adjustments to the gameplay in order to elevate the difficulty of the game. Among these changes are reduced ammo, greater damage taken from enemies, and reduction of spawn points. I would recommend players to completely avoid playing through this mode if they are playing BioShock Infinite for the first time, however. A user shows how to unlock 1999 mode in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Werj_QoKt3A --------------------------------------------------- [A2] Loading Screen Song by Scott Joplin | --------------------------------------------------- The first song you hear in this game is the song that plays every time you are on a loading screen. The music that plays on the loading screen is actually called "Solace", a musical composition created by Scott Joplin in 1909 (You may be more familiar with Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer", known by many as the "ice cream man song"). You can listen to "Solace" here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGU_MBMqEXA ================================= [B] The Lighthouse ============== ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [B1] Wounded Knee | --------------------------------------------------- "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee." - every single guard in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Whether you have played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or not, you probably have heard this phrase before. This meme was popularized by gamers back when Skyrim was released in 2011. Whenever the Dragonborn passed by a guard, he or she would talk to the player. One of the statements they make mentions them once being an adventurer. Unfortunately, their days as adventurers ended when an arrow was shot through their knee. Some gamers began to resent the constant use of this meme on the internet while others enjoyed using the joke whenever they could. The developers of BioShock Infinite decided to insert this joke into the game to continue this trend. At the beginning of the game, Booker finds himself on a boat. A man and a women are on the boat with him, and they are taking Booker to an unknown location. As they are rowing, Booker receives a box from the woman. This engraving is on top of the box: ========================== Property of BOOKER DEWITT 7th CALVARY, WOUNDED KNEE ========================== In this game, Wounded Knee refers to a battle Booker participated in. You get to see an exhibit of the Battle of Wounded Knee later in the game. Do you want to walk through the exhibit titled "The Battle of Wounded Knee"? You can in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s05eqEiUva4 --------------------------------------------------- [B2] Call Me Booker | --------------------------------------------------- Later in the game, you will figure out that quantum mechanics has a huge role in the game's plot and setting. Booker DeWitt's name, in fact, is similar to the name of a theoretical physicist known as Bryce Seligman DeWitt. Bryce wrote several books about quantum mechanics, and he helped advanced Hugh Everett's theory of "Many-Worlds." --------------------------------------------------- [B3] The First Signs of Comstock | --------------------------------------------------- Look for a note hanging on a wall within the lighthouse. The note will say "Be prepared. He's on his way. You must stop him. - C" Comstock was the person who wrote the note. This note was written to the dead man found in the lighthouse. Comstock was trying to kill you right from the very beginning of the game! Thankfully, the Lutece twins are on your side! ================================= [C] Welcome Center ============== ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [C1] Someone New | --------------------------------------------------- Those of you who have played the first BioShock game might remember the warm welcoming the player receives when the bathysphere reaches Rapture. A splicer will observe the inside of the transportation device, and it will ask itself "Is it someone new?" Then, it lets out a terrifying scream that sets the tone for the rest of the game. In BioShock Infinite, Booker DeWitt is transported to Columbia via some sort of transportation device. Once he reaches Columbia, he is dropped off at the Church of Comstock. After Booker explores the church for a bit, he will eventually arrive at some sort of baptismal area. A man who is preaching to some men and women in white robes will spot Booker, and he will ask "Is it someone new?" This is a reference to the splicer in BioShock 1. The following video shows the "Is it someone new?" sequence from both games: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU5qVS3B20M --------------------------------------------------- [C2] The Scroll, The Key, and The Sword | --------------------------------------------------- In the beginning of the game, Booker will receive a little card that reveals a secret code. The code says he must ring the bell with the scroll once, the bell with the key twice, and the bell with the sword twice. When Booker reaches the Church of Comstock, he will come across a stained glass window that shows a sword with the word 'Gladium' right under it. In Latin, gladium means 'sword'. The next stained glass window he passes by will show a key with the word 'Clavem' under it. Clavem means 'key' in Latin. He will then pass by a stained glass window that shows a scroll with the word 'Volumen' written under it. In Latin, volumen means 'scroll'. After DeWitt wakes up in the Garden of New Eden (after being baptized), he will find some people worshipping statues of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. You should notice that George Washington is holding a sword, Thomas Jefferson is holding a scroll, and Benjamin Franklin is holding a key. These symbols obviously have an important meaning to the people of Columbia. You will see these symbols pop up here and there for the rest of the game (Order of the Raven member outfits, propaganda pictures, etcetera), but the locations I just mentioned are the easiest to spot. --------------------------------------------------- [C3] Saltonstall | --------------------------------------------------- Saltonstall is a character seen in the 2010 demo of BioShock Infinite. Originally, he was meant to be a politician in the game. Upon meeting Booker in the demo, his eyes will turn yellow, and he orders a man named Charles to attack Booker with Murder of Crows. After Booker kills Charles, Saltonstall escapes on a Sky-Line and enters a cannon where he begins to fire canonballs at Booker. DeWitt would be required to follow him on the Sky-Line, and he would eventually destroy the cannon, killing Saltonstall in the process. You can see Saltonstall in this video of the 2010 BioShock Infinite E3 demo (Skip to 2:50): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6_PSJJFqmk Although Saltonstall's appearance was completely removed in the final release of BioShock Infinite, the game does indicate that he still exists in Columbia. The first time the game mentions Saltonstall's existence is in New Eden Square. You will see two men and a woman talking about Saltonstall near the building used for shoe polishing. One of the men will say: "Saltonstall's alright, I tell ya. Says he's for faith, family, and fatherland. Who can be against all that?" - Male Columbia Citizen You can hear the conversation starting at 15:05 on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3UJgHUUNDA --------------------------------------------------- [C4] Anachronism #1 - "God Only Knows" | --------------------------------------------------- Anachronisms occur in movies and in books whenever something is not chronologically correct. A person, place, thing, or event can be out of place chronologically. For example, let us pretend that I was writing an article about the history of the BioShock series. I wrote that BioShock Infinite was released first in 2005. It was followed by the release of BioShock in 2007, and BioShock 2 came out in 2010. My description of these events is, of course, incorrect. BioShock Infinite was released in 2013, not 2005. Because I misplaced the order of events in which they occurred, it is an example of an anachronism. Generally, anachronisms are errors made by the writers of movies, books, and other forms of media. These anachronisms are usually created on accident. However, the anachronisms in BioShock Infinite are purposefully put into the game. The explanations behind the anachronisms can be found when learning about Albert Fink. Albert Fink, brother of Jeremiah Fink, is owner of Magical Melodies, a music studio found in Downtown Emporia. The studio has published major hits, and many popular songs sung by the citizens of Columbia are published by Magical Melodies. The truth, however, is that Albert plagiarized every single song he published. The songs he plagiarized did not come from the past, but they were from the future. Albert was somehow able to find a tear, and he was able to listen to songs from the future. Jeremiah Fink explains this phenomenon through two voxophones. = Changing My Tune = (Good Time Club) "I had thought you a fool, dear brother. When you told me that you heard wonderful music trumpeting from holes in the thin air, I began to doubt your mental integrity. But not only have you made your fortune from these doodads, you have lit the path for me as well." - Jeremiah Fink = Out of the Thin Air = (Downtown Emporia) "Dear brother, these holes in the thin air continue to pay dividends. I know not which musician you borrow your notes from, but if he has half the genius of the biologist I now observe, well...then you are to be the Mozart of Columbia." - Jeremiah Fink The first time Booker encounters one of the songs published by Magical Melodies is when he is walking through New Eden Square. A barbershop quartet called the Bee Sharps will be singing on a little ship. The song they sing is called "God Only Knows". This song was originally recorded by The Beach Boys in 1966. Since BioShock Infinite is set in 1912, this is an anachronism! As you progress through BioShock Infinite's campaign, you will notice more of these anachronisms popping up here and there. You can listen to the barbershop quartet sing "God Only Knows" here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8toGQq46tA --------------------------------------------------- [C5] "I Married a Vox Populi" | --------------------------------------------------- After you encounter the Bee Sharps, you will walk by a man and a woman. The man will tell the woman "I'd keep an eye on that kind of talk, friend. That kind of talk draws attention." The woman will respond "Oh, don't turn into some Finkton radical on me, John. I do not want to be some character out of 'I Married a Vox Populi' now do I?" This is a reference to a 1949 film called "I Married a Communist." This movie was later retitled "The Woman on Pier 13". You can see hear this reference at 0:20:00 on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3UJgHUUNDA --------------------------------------------------- [C6] Now You See Them, Now You Don't | --------------------------------------------------- Right after you receive a telegram from a boy, look to the left. You should find a telescope. If you look through the telescope, you will see Rosalind and Robert Lutece at the bottom of your screen. Rosalind will be watching Robert as he juggles. Exit the telescope, and the Lutece twins will disappear from their location! This Youtube video shows off this neat secret: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DeH5jtb0sE --------------------------------------------------- [C7] "I Appreciate a Lady Who Appreciates Value!" | --------------------------------------------------- In BioShock 1, you would hear the following message whenever you activated a vending machine. "Welcome to the circus of value!!!" The Dollar Bill vending machines from Infinite are very similar to the ones in BioShock 1. The person who voiced the vending machines in BioShock Infinite sounds exactly the same as the one who voiced them in BioShock 1. The Dollar Bill vending machine also says something that is somewhat similar to what the vending machines in BioShock 1 say. "I appreciate a lady who appreciates value!" You can compare their voices yourself by listening to their audio clips linked below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VnsM4PqYcg (BioShock 1 Vending Machine) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWhp4Dv9y7A (BioShock Infinite Dollar Bill VM) --------------------------------------------------- [C8] Bucking Bronco Charges | --------------------------------------------------- When you are at the fair in Columbia, you have the option to interact with one of the first vending machines in the game. Unfortunately, you'll find out that it sells Bucking Bronco (4) for a very high price that you cannot afford. You will not see any item like this for the rest of the game. The truth is that Bucking Bronco (4) is a left over from an earlier E3 demo of BioShock Infinite. Originally, the (4) stood for the amount of charges you would receive from a vigor bottle. The more charges you had meant that you could use your vigor abilities more often. This game play concept was replaced with the salts system later on. --------------------------------------------------- [C9] The Number 122 | --------------------------------------------------- The number 122 seems to have some significance in BioShock Infinite. When you meet Robert and Rosalind at the fair, they will ask you to flip a coin. Robert will have a chalkboard in front and behind him. Before you flip the coin, there will be 110 tally marks written on the chalkboard on his back and 12 tally marks on the chalkboard in front of him. This totals to 122. After you flip the coin, Rosalind will add another tally mark to the chalkboard making the total amount of tally marks 123. You can watch the coin flip scene here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq39ofDtYPA 122 comes up at the beginning of the game as well. When you ring the bells to enter the top of the light house, you should notice that you must ring the bell with the scroll once, ring the bell with the key twice, and ring the bell with the sword twice. Scroll x1 - Key x2 - Sword x2 Put the numbers together, and you will get 122! You can see Booker ring the bells here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMdgANh0P8U Whenever you are at the loading screen in BioShock Infinite, look at the left part of the screen. You will see information about Booker including his detective badge. The document on the loading screen will state that Booker DeWitt's detective badge was issued on 1/22/1892. Remove the slash between the 1 and 22, and you will get 122. Now, as you know, BioShock Infinite takes place in 1912. If we subtract 122 from 1912, we will get 1790. There were a few important events that occurred in 1790. These events include the 1st State of the Union Address delivered by President George Washington, Thomas Jefferson's appointment as 1st US Secretary of State, and the creation of the Naturalization Act of 1790. In BioShock Infinite, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were worshipped like gods by many people in Columbia. The Naturalization Act of 1790 provided the first requirements for becoming a US citizen. This act, however, only granted the right to naturalize to white people while leaving out people of other races. BioShock Infinite's Columbia also exhibits this form of elitism and racism throughout the game. Is this all a coincidence? It might be, but 122 seems to signify quite a lot in BioShock Infinite and in history. --------------------------------------------------- [C10] Robert Lutece Statue > Rosalind Lutece Statue | --------------------------------------------------- After you encounter the Lutece twins and flip the coin, you will walk by a large statue of Robert Lutece. The game will tell you to hold X to look at the statue. You will see that the statue will go through some sort of tear, and it will be replaced by a statue of Rosalind Lutece! Most players will not recognize this change at first because of their lack of knowledge of Robert and Rosalind's identities. You can see this occurrence at 12:45 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg4AOn5w3co --------------------------------------------------- [C11] "Goodnight Irene" | --------------------------------------------------- At Columbia's raffle, Jeremiah Fink and the crowd that gathered will start to sing "Goodnight Irene" if Booker does not approach the crowd. It is a folk song written in 1908, so it is not an anachronism. You can listen to "Goodnight Irene" in the game in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvYJ9lLY-2M ================================= [D] Comstock Center Rooftops ==== ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [D1] Hidden Lutece Dialogue | --------------------------------------------------- When you meet the Lutece twins at the bar in the Blue Ribbon, you have the ability to shoot them with your pistol. However, your shots will keep missing them, and they are not afraid to make fun of you for trying to kill them. After every shot you fire, they will say "Missed", "Missed Again", "Another Miss", and other funny lines. You can watch someone try to shoot the Lutece twins here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1xyt7dZaew --------------------------------------------------- [D2] That Wrench...I Know That Wrench! | --------------------------------------------------- Shortly after obtaining the Murder of Crows Vigor on the top floor of the Fraternal Order of the Raven, Booker will come across a broken vending machine. A gear is found to the left of the machine. Next to the gear is a wrench. This wrench looks exactly like the wrench obtained in the first BioShock. That wrench is the first weapon obtained in BioShock! You can see a Youtube user show off the wrench here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GnfvnXzDNw --------------------------------------------------- [D3] Hidden Music? | --------------------------------------------------- Within the Fraternal Order of the Raven, you will hear a lot of creepy ambient sounds as you explore. In reality, those ambient sounds are a slowed down version of some sort of song. Several people have tried to speed up the sounds, and they turn into lyrics. A person is singing something, but the song is incomplete. You can listen to two sped up versions of the ambient noises in the following videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keEJUfuDDQE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK74rxBDd-I --------------------------------------------------- [D4] Andrew Ryan / Booker DeWitt Portrait | --------------------------------------------------- After exiting the Fraternal Order of the Raven building, Booker can enter a building to his right. Inside, a woman is giving a man a description of Booker DeWitt. The man is drawing Booker's face to match the woman's description. If you look at the picture, you will find that it does not look like Booker DeWitt at all. Some players believe the picture looks more like Andrew Ryan, a character from BioShock 1. Others believe it is a mere coincidence that the portrait looks like Ryan, and they believe the woman's description of Booker is just inaccurate. What do you believe? You can see the portrait in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGDE5iAulyI ================================= [E] Monument Island ============= ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [E1] La Revanche Du Jedi (The Revenge of the Jedi) | --------------------------------------------------- Booker will finally encounter Elizabeth in Monument Tower. Before he meets her, however, Booker will walk through several observation rooms. The rooms were created to monitor Elizabeth's activities. In one observation room, Elizabeth is seen in a room with a picture of the Eiffel Tower. Suddenly, she opens up a tear and finds herself in Paris. If you look carefully into the tear, you will notice a movie theater to the right of the Eiffel Tower. The movie theater displays the title of the movie that it is playing, La Revanche Du Jedi. The translation in English is The Revenge of the Jedi. The title for this Star Wars film was later changed to The Return of the Jedi. However, the tear Elizabeth opened might have been a universe where George Lucas decided not to switch out 'Revenge' with 'Return'. This link takes you to a video that shows Elizabeth opening the tear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfw1fzPUgBQ ---------------------------------------------------------- [E2] Anachronism #2 - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" | ---------------------------------------------------------- While Elizabeth opens the tear to Paris, you can hear the song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by the band Tears for Fears playing in the background. The song was released in 1985, so it is another anachronism. It is also worth noting that Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi was released in theaters in 1983, two years before the song was released. In the universe Elizabeth opened the tear to, either the movie was popular enough to stay in theaters for two years, or the song was released two years earlier than it originally did in our universe. --------------------------------------------------- [E3] "This deal is getting worse all the time." | --------------------------------------------------- Shortly after Booker discovers Elizabeth's power of opening tears, he will say "This job is getting worse all the time." This statement is a reference to a character from Star Wars. In Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, a character named Lando says "This deal is getting worse all the time." while talking to Darth Vader. --------------------------------------------------- [E4] The Principles of Quantum Mechanics Book | --------------------------------------------------- When you meet Elizabeth for the first time, she freaks out and starts throwing books at you. 'Book'er will eventually make her stop before she knocks him out for good. If you look at the book she is holding in her hands, you will notice its title is "The Principles of Quantum Mechanics", and it is written by Rosalind Lutece. Near the end of the game, you begin to understand the role of quantum mechanics in BioShock Infinite's plot. Apparently, Elizabeth had been studying the subject long before Booker ever arrived in Columbia! You can look at the book's title at 0:27 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P18lYfdPicY ================================= [F] Soldier's Field ============= ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [F1] Your Baby is a....Pistol? | --------------------------------------------------- Near the beginning of BioShock 1, your character saw a very creepy splicer. A "mother splicer" was comforting her little baby who was in a stroller. After you murdered the splicer, you found out that it was speaking to a pistol. The pistol was her baby the whole time! In one of the hallways in Battleship Bay, you can find a stroller with pistol ammo inside it. This is a reference to the "mother splicer" encounter in BioShock 1. You can see the reference in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOXuh-S2XnM --------------------------------------------------- [F2] Anachronism #3 - "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"| --------------------------------------------------- As Booker and Elizabeth are walking through the beach area in Battleship Bay, a familiar tune can be heard. A calliope, a musical instrument, will be playing "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". A calliope creates sounds by sending steam through whistles. The calliope in Battleship Bay can be seen on ships that are found above the entrances and exits on the beach. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" is a 1979 song performed by Cyndi Lauper, so its appearance in BioShock Infinite is another example of an anachronism. You can listen to these calliopes in the game here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-s0uXKIjvI --------------------------------------------------- [F3] Lil' Miss Columbia | --------------------------------------------------- After you pass through some turnstiles to enter a shop in Battleship Bay, you will find yourself in a shop that has a bunch of Comstock posters. If you look around the shop, you will find a poster that shows a picture of Lil Miss Columbia. If you go up some stairs in the shop, you will find a table with a Lil Miss Columbis doll sitting on one of the seats. The doll of Lil Miss Columbia bears some resemblance to the Little Sisters in BioShock 1. --------------------------------------------------- [F4] Delayed THREE Times! | --------------------------------------------------- While Booker and Elizabeth explore The Arcade, an area in Battleship Bay, they will come across a lot of Duke & Dimwit machines. These machines influence younger children to think like a Duke and not to think like a Dimwit. Elizabeth will notice one Duke & Dimwit machine called "Flawless Flintlock", and she will say "Hey! Flawless Flintlock! It's the newest one in the series. I read it was delayed three times." - Elizabeth This is a reference to the delayed release dates for BioShock Infinite. BioShock Infinite was originally set to be released on October 16, 2012 in North America. The game was delayed, and the release date was set for February 26, 2013. BioShock Infinite was delayed once again, and the release date was set for March 26, 2013. Thankfully, the game finally released on that date, and gamers received an excellent video game. You can hear Elizabeth's comment in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAKRVDSWoXc --------------------------------------------------- [F5] That Wrench...There It Is Again! | --------------------------------------------------- When Booker and Elizabeth find and take control of The First Lady, Elizabeth is under the impression that they will fly to Paris. When she read the coordinates of the location Booker set course for, she realized Booker was taking The First Lady to New York. Angry that Booker deceived her, Elizabeth picks up an object from the floor and knocks out Booker DeWitt. The object she picked up was a wrench, and that wrench looks similar to the wrench from BioShock 1! You can see the wrench at 1:45 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te--I0iOz70 ================================= [G] Finkton ===================== ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [G1] Anachronism #4 - "Fortunate Son" | --------------------------------------------------- The Plaza of Zeal is an area in BioShock Infinite where workers can obtain a job through a lottery. The Good Time Club and Shantytown are accessible from this area. A workshop can be found to the left of the Good Time Club. In the workship, a reddish tear can be found, and music can be heard by approaching the tear. The music is called "Fortunate Son", a 1969 song by Creedence Clearwater Revival. A Youtube user shows the location of the song tear in the video below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dBvOVF3yFc (Skip to the 1:10 mark for the tear) --------------------------------------------------- [G2] "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" | --------------------------------------------------- When you reach Shantytown, it is a good idea to visit the Graveyard Shift Bar for a special secret. If you head down into the basement of the bar, you will see a child run away to hide under some stairs. There will also be a guitar that Booker can interact with. If Booker interacts with the guitar, he will pick it up, and he will start playing it. Elizabeth will begin singing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" with a strong and beautiful voice. This scene only lasts for about 40 seconds, but the full version is heard during the credits. The 40 second version of the song is heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2snw-qQiC8 In reality, Troy Baker, the voice actor for Booker DeWitt, played the guitar while Courtnee Draper, the voice actress for Elizabeth, sung for their cover of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" A short video played during the credits shows them record the song. The video of Troy and Courtnee's cover is found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZGOsSc5t_c --------------------------------------------------- [G3] Anachronism #5 - "Shake Sugaree" | --------------------------------------------------- In Shantytown, Booker and Elizabeth may come across a small band that consists of children. The kids are playing the song "Shake Sugaree" to obtain money. This song was written by Elizabeth Cotten in 1967. You can listen to the band play the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_DbOThWKi4 --------------------------------------------------- [G4] Anachronism #6 - "Tainted Love" | --------------------------------------------------- The Graveyard Shift Bar in Shantytown has a record player that plays the song "Tainted Love." This song was written by Ed Cobb and recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964. You can listen to the record player here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NPUTYflLaI --------------------------------------------------- [G5] Referencing Rapture (Voxophones) | --------------------------------------------------- If you have read everything in this guide up to this point, you are aware that Albert Fink had been listening to music from the future to produce his products. Jeremiah Fink, Albert's brother, also took advantage of the tears to benefit his business. He describes his observations while looking through the tears in two voxophones. One is found in Finkton while the other is found in Emporia. = A Child Needs a Protector = (Fink Manufacturing) "These holes have shown me yet another wonder, though I've yet to see the application for it. They illuminate a merger of machine and man that is somehow the lesser, yet the greater, of both parties. The process seems to be irreversible. Perhaps, though, Comstock will have some need of this kind of thing to keep watch in that tower he is building." - Jeremiah Fink = Out of the Thin Air = (Downtown Emporia) "Dear brother, these holes in the thin air continue to pay dividends. I know not which musician you borrow your notes from, but if he has half the genius of the biologist I now observe, well...then you are to be the Mozart of Columbia." - Jeremiah Fink In 'A Child Needs a Protector', Jeremiah is observing the Big Daddies of BioShock 1. His observations may have led to the development of the Songbird. The Songbird formed a relationship with Elizabeth similar to the relationship between the Big Daddy and Little Sister. The title of the voxophone itself also references the relationship of these characters from the first BioShock. In 'Out of the Thin Air', Fink says he is observing a genius biologist. The existence of Vigors and Salts might be thanks to the technology of Rapture. As you probably have already noticed, Vigors are like Plasmids and Salts are similar to EVE from BioShock 1. --------------------------------------------------- [G6] Anachronism #7 - "Fortunate Son" | --------------------------------------------------- Booker and Elizabeth needed to find a gunsmith in order to get weapons for the Vox Populi. They find him dead, so they go through a tear into another reality where the man is alive. As they explore the new universe they entered, they find out that the Vox Populi have staged a revolution. After leaving the building that used to house the dead gunsmith, they will encounter a woman singing "Fortunate Son" outside. As I stated before, the song is a 1969 song by Creedence Clearwater Revival. You can listen to the woman sing the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XADErOyjjE8 ================================= [H] Emporia ===================== ================================= --------------------------------------------------- [H1] Lutece, Lutetia, and Paris | --------------------------------------------------- By the time you reach Emporia, you will have met Rosalind and Robert Lutece quite a few times, and you will understand that Elizabeth REALLY wanted to go to Paris. It is interesting to note that Lutece (with an accent over the "e") is the French form of Lutetia. Lutetia was a Roman city located where Paris stands today! --------------------------------------------------- [H2] Anachronism #8 - "Shiny Happy People" | --------------------------------------------------- Elizabeth and Booker will find and ride a gondola to get closer to the Comstock House. Along the way, they see Robert and Rosalind Lutece dancing, painting, and doing other stuff. After they exit the gondola, they can hear the 1991 song "Shiny Happy People" by the band R.E.M. The area where you hear the song is shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TFTvGYP2wI --------------------------------------------------- [H3] Saltonstall is Dead | --------------------------------------------------- Since being mentioned by the citizens of Columbia was not enough, Saltonstall will appear again in the game. This time, however, he is shown to be dead. As you travel through Port Prosperity, you will come across a sign where a bunch of scalps are hung. "Tell us prophet do you see us coming?" is written on the sign by the Vox Populi. Saltonstall's scalp is found among the scalps hung on the sign. You can see the sign here: http://BioShock.wikia.com/wiki/File:Rreretwre.jpg --------------------------------------------------- [H4] Toilet Potatoes | --------------------------------------------------- Go to the Salty Oyster restaurant in Port Prosperity. Next, head for the bathroom. In one of the toilets (flies will be flying around it), you will see two smelly, disgusting potatoes, and Booker can eat them! You can see the potatoes here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-gtz7--E2E --------------------------------------------------- [H5] 0451 | --------------------------------------------------- Looking Glass Studios is a company that helped develop video games such as Thief: The Dark Project, System Shock 2, and Command & Conquer. In Emporia, Booker and Elizabeth will come across a door that requires a special code to unlock. Booker finds out that the code is '0451'. This code has been used to unlock doors in other games such as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, BioShock, and System Shock 2. In reality, 0451 used to be a door code for the offices of Looking Glass Studios! You can see this code shown at 1:20 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzLFpwoLLHk --------------------------------------------------- [H6] Your Baby is a....Hand Cannon? | --------------------------------------------------- You will find this reference to BioShock 1 once again in Emporia. You will come across a burning building, and inside there will be a baby carriage with a dead mother next to it. Inside the carriage you will find a hand cannon, a possible reference to BioShock 1. In that game, a splicer was talking to a pistol within a baby carriage. This video shows the location of this reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu2TwDr5bcg ---------------------------------------------------------- [H7] Anachronism #9 - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" | ---------------------------------------------------------- This song makes another appearance when you find Albert Fink's music studio in Emporia. In Magical Melodies, you will find a phonograph that is playing "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". You can listen to the phonograph here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaXZffvUHLA ---------------------------------------------------- [H8] Anachronism #10 - "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"| ---------------------------------------------------- Yet another music tear can be found in Magical Melodies when you first enter it. This tear lets you hear "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", but this time it has vocals. You can listen to the music from the tear here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcbP7YrimrU ---------------------------------------------------
[H9] Snight |
---------------------------------------------------
While walking around the Memorial Gardens in Emporia, you might notice a
gravestone that has 'Snight' on it. Mike Snight is an environment artist that
worked on BioShock Infinite!

A BioShock Infinite player shows the location of the gravestone here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JzjyDFvwMg

---------------------------------------------------
[H10] Rapture Records |
---------------------------------------------------
While you search for a tear in the Lutece Labs, look out for a record player
on the first floor. Inside the record player is a record labeled "Rapture
Records". Rapture Records, a record company, was found in BioShock 1.

---------------------------------------------------
[H11] "Life is like a box of chocolates." |
---------------------------------------------------
The world of Columbia is a beautiful place, but some things seem to be
misplaced around the city in the sky. Booker will eat hot dogs from a trash
can, a can of beans from a woman's purse, or eat a pineapple from an enemy's
corpse! I am probably exaggerating a bit, but it is true that food can be
found in some of the weirdest places in this game.

At some points in the game, you will find a box of chocolates labeled "Quality
Chocolates". If you search the box, you will find a food item that is not
a sweet piece of chocolate.

This picture shows what one user received: http://imgur.com/r/gaming/wONMwe5

Whose idea was to put a hotdog in a box of chocolates!? This might be a
reference to the 1994 movie, Forrest Gump. However, this is likely the result
of the randomly placed food items found throughout the game. Nevertheless,
remember that this quote from Forrest Gump bears a lot of truth:

"My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what
you're gonna get."" - Forrest Gump

[I1] Rapture Records Returns |
---------------------------------------------------
Booker is transported to the future to receive a message from an old
Elizabeth. When you reach the Warden's Office, there will be a phonograph that
has another record labeled "Rapture Records".

You can see a player show off this secret here:

[J1] Welcome Back to Rapture |
---------------------------------------------------
When Booker loses control of the Songbird, Elizabeth transports them to
Rapture. Although this is part of the story and not an Easter egg, there are a
few things you can miss if you don't explore Rapture for a bit.

The first thing you should look for is the Big Daddy and Little Sister. You
can see them on the walkway if you look out the windows after Songbird dies.
If you walk up the stairs, you will find the Gatherer's Garden, a vending
machine that allowed you to purchase upgrades in BioShock 1. "La Mer (Beyond
the Sea)", a song heard in the first BioShock, is playing in the background as
well.

You can watch this sequence of the game here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAoJimnCp_4

---------------------------------------------------
[J2] Songbird Scream in BioShock 1 |
---------------------------------------------------
When Songbird dies, in BioShock Infinite, it lets out a terrible scream. Many
players remember the same scream from BioShock 1 during a scene with
Fitspatrick.

You can compare the screams here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpbdxqef9MI (BioShock 1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsjYmlnP1a4 (BioShock Infinite)

Is it a coincidence? Did the developers just reuse the sound effect?

[K1] 2010 Elizabeth |
---------------------------------------------------
The Elizabeth you know in the 2013 release of BioShock Infinite did not look
the same three years ago. The demo of the game released in 2010 showed a very
different looking Elizabeth. During the baptismal sequence at the end of the
game, a group of different looking Elizabeths will begin to appear. The
Elizabeth that appears at the far left of the group is the Elizabeth from the
2010 demo!

Try to spot her in this video which shows the ending sequence:

[K2] Extra Scene After Credits |
---------------------------------------------------
Hopefully you watched all of the credits because there is an extra scene after
the credits finish! Booker will wake up in his office, and he will look into
Anna's room to see if she is still there.

You can watch this extra scene here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0HKMeaCQkw
