Welcome to the Game II I figured I'd try my hand at a guide of sorts, for what I've learned of the game so far from both playing and watching others play. I've seen a lot of guides, but I know for me, personally, I need things spelled out in very much detail and layman's terms for things to make sense to me! So I figured I'd write one with more detail just in case there are others like me out there that simply adore this game. Please, anyone, feel free to respond with corrections or suggestions and I'll add them to the list with your name so you get credit. :) Anyway, let's start! :STARTING: The moment Clint is sat in front of his computer, you have two options. You can answer Adam's phone call and go through the first half of the tutorial, or you can get up from your seat by pressing your right mouse button, and wander your apartment. IF YOU GET UP FROM THE SEAT: You'll note there's something on your desk you can move; This is your WI-FI Dongle. You can move this to several locations in your apartment to access several different wi-fi connections; Your desk, your window sill, your bedside table, and out back on the table on your fire escape. Remember to switch wi-fi connections as often as possible, in order to evade the FBI tracing your signal and busting down your door. Remember also, to pick up the flashlight now, off of your bedside table, if you chose to get up from your computer chair first thing. IF YOU CHOOSE TO REMAIN AT YOUR PC: You can do one of two things; Listen to Adam's first half of the tutorial, or cancel the call. If it's your first time playing, I recommend using your first play through as practice, as listening to this tutorial will eat up time of you being on your first, free and VERY unsecured wi-fi, so being on it for too long will get you raided by the FBI. IF YOU LISTENED TO ADAM'S FIRST HALF OF HIS TUTORIAL: To initiate the second half, click on either the Shadow Market symbol on your desktop, or the zeroDay Market symbol on your desktop, and he will explain the use of DOSCoins, and how to make them. He will also inform you that he has sent you a Remote VPN, and will explain what they do. This will be delivered to the alley outside of your apartment complex via Deep Web Drone, and anything you buy that needs to be delivered, from here on in, will be delivered in this way. IF YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO ADAM'S TUTORIAL: He still sends you the Remote VPN. Turn off your wifi via the wifi symbol in the top right corner of your screen, and get up from the desk. Before doing anything, go get your flashlight up off of the bedside table, then leave the apartment. Go to your left, to the end of the hall, down the stairs, into the lobby on the 1st floor, and outside. Once out in the alley, your packages will always be dropped on the floor or on top of another box at the back end of the alley. The first time you enter the alley to get your remote VPN, is 100% safe as long as you do it before 11:00PM in game time. Every other time after that, /You are not safe to just run in./ HEAD BACK UP TO YOUR APARTMENT; Your Remote VPN will be on the small table in front of the door. Take that and go back into the hall. Explore the walls with the remote VPN, don't place it until it turns GREEN. That will be the best connection. Then go back to the apartment, and remember ALWAYS to keep your door locked. You do this by putting your crosshair on the doorknob, and hitting the right mouse button. :TO CONTINUE: I will offer a few strategies for the threats, here. THE BREATHER: The Breather is the guy attacking you in the alley; There's mention of it in the pages on your desktop. After 11:00PM, if you need to go down to the alley, DO NOT RUN TO THE END OF THE ALLEY. Always run to the right hand door when entering the alley, close it, and hide behind it via clicking the right mouse button on the door, and listen. If you hear footsteps, be sure to wait until you see the door being pushed in, and click on the doorknob with your left mouse button and hold DOWN, until the push stops. The Breather will try to break the door down this way several times. Keep doing this until you hear him walk away. Don't leave the room until a few moments have passed in silence. Make sure even then, to check through the door's window, before you do anything else. You are then free to get your packages safely. LUCAS: This is the man mentioned in a page on your desktop. He is an assassin, hired by some unknown entity to kill you the further your investigation gets. Usually, in my personal experience, he is dormant until you find your first Key, or you've accumulated a certain amount of DOSCoins, or after 11:00 - 11:30PM. However, I've heard tales stating he comes whenever he feels like it. You have to have the volume LOUD in order to hear when he's coming; His sound indicator is the picking of your front door's lock. You have mere, scant seconds (Longer if you have two motion sensors at either end of the hall) to turn off the PC, the lights and hide either in your armoire, or your bathroom shower. If you don't turn off your PC he will leech your DOScoins, and delete your notes. If you don't catch his lockpicking sound, or are not quick enough to get up and do what you need to do and hide, he will ALWAYS kill you when you look away from your computer. (IF you have two motion sensors in your hall, one next to the door to the stair well, and one next to the elevator door, and have purchased the Motion Sensor audio alert, you will have a lot more time to turn off your PC, turn off all of your lights and hide before he even gets to your front door.) THE NOIR: The Noir appear in the darkness. They also have their own page on your desktop. To avoid them altogether, is impossible, but you can highly lessen your chances of encountering them if all of your apartment lights are on. (I think the bathroom light being out is fine, as they never seem to go in there in my experience.) If you see the male Noir, don't panic. Do not approach him, simply turn 100% in the opposite direction, and count to 30. The man should be gone by then. But if you approach him, or don't turn around in time, the female Noir will ALWAYS force you to turn to her, and slit your throat. THE FBI: They are tracking you. The longer you stay on any given WiFi that is NOT WPA2, the more chance you have of them breaking down your door. Your best bet is to try very hard to avoid getting caught at all. This is done by constantly switching WiFi connections, and constantly switching your WiFi dongle to different areas in the apartment. If you like, you can save DOscoin to buy a Police scanner, and whenever you hear it go off, take it as a hint to switch your WiFi immediately, no matter what they say on the scanner. Once they've found you, I don't think there's any way to avoid them; Simply try not to get caught. THE DOLLMAKER: This is a quest, and I won't spoil it for anyone. Suffice it to say when you visit The Dollmaker Website, you WILL trigger the quest. This is optional unless you've scanned every other available website for keys, and there are none. My personal suggestion is to avoid this quest unless you'd like the achievement for it, as it is a royal pain in the behind to endure. A LITTLE EXTRA HELP: HACKING WIFIS: Buy skyBREAK from zeroDay Market immediately, the moment you can. This is 8 DOSCoins. Then use your last 2 DOScoins to buy two backdoor hacks. (This makes it so when you successfully block a hack puzzle, you get paid DOScoins for it.) skyBreak is used to hack into other people's secure WiFi connections. You start with WEP which is the weakest security, and have to buy access to cracking WPA and WPA2. First, you type in whichever type you'd like to try to crack, you'll start by typing WEP. Then, SCAN. Give it a moment to scan for secure WEP WiFi connections. Once it's done, you will see a list. You have to pick a connection, then type it's BSSID that will look something like this: "AE:PE:GT:P0:F5" then a space, then it's channel number. With WEP I find scanning at 1000 times per scan, is safe. So for this hypothetical situation, you'd type...: PROBE AE:PE:GT:P0:F5 7 1000 Broken down this is.... PROBE AE:PE:GT:P0:F5(<- BSSID) 7 (<- Channel #) 1000 (How many times to probe the BSSID.) Once skyBreak tells you hacking is possible you then type...: CRACK AE:PE:GT:P0:F5 7 And let it scan for the password for that WEP WiFi Connection. For WPA and WPA2, it's different. It would be...: INJECT AE:PE:GT:P0:F5 7 30 (<-This is how many times you'd like to inject packets into the connection to try and crack the code.) This is where it gets tricky, as every WPA and WPA2 connection has a set number of how many times you can inject before the skyBREAK connection gets overloaded. This is a trial and error process, as I will not share the number of times per WPA/2 WiFi connections that you can inject them. Try and figure it out yourself; You'll find it's much more rewarding! FINDING KEYS: (EX- 4 - 123sf23345 <--this is what it may look like.) Simple. Search the Deep Web. Some pages of the Wiki's (There are 3, will explain later.) will load all of the time. Some will only load at certain time intervals. Some will never load at all. On those pages that do load, simply drag your cursor over all of the words and pictures, and if it turns into a random pointing hand icon where you don't think it normally should, then that is your key. Click it, and it will pop up as a notepad file on your desktop. Sometimes, the key will be in plain sight, and you won't have to click anything, it'll be in the text or on the page somewhere you can see it plain as day. Other times, it will be in the website's source code. Click on the little magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of your ANN Browser. That will bring up a window with the page's source code. Scour this visually, see if any keys are there. If there are no keys at all on the website, change your WiFi connection before you switch to the wiki again. Always be sure to change WiFi connections as often as possible to prevent FBI Invasions. FINDING WIKI II AND WIKI III: Scour the source codes of all WIKI I pages for WIKI II. it will look...: http://seraqw4rq34earetgawe4rdfhghjfyukt.ann <--Something like this. Once on WIKI II, look for a page named The Rule of Three. There will be dots all over the page, you have to click each set of 3 dots in sequence in order to unlock WIKI III. It is always random and the sequences will change if the power goes out, or you disconnect from the WiFi. IF THE LIGHTS GO OUT: Always make sure you pick up the flashlight at the very beginning of the game, whether you get up from your desk first thing, or choose to watch the tutorial first and then get up. Once your lights go out, turn on the flashlight via F. Exit your apartment, go left, to the end of the hall, out into the stair well and hang an immediate right. Inside the maintenence room, is the breakers, flip it, and go back to the apartment. BE CAREFUL. This makes the entire floor dark, and you risk a chance of encountering the Noir, don't run through doors quickly when it's dark, always linger or slow down for a second or two before entering any doors. Use this as a general rule of thumb in this game, not just for the Noir. FINAL HINTS: Explore both the Shadow Market and the zeroDay Market, as reading the descriptions of things you can buy, will give you major in game hints on possible strategies to beat the game. DO NOT FORGET TO KEEP YOUR FRONT DOOR LOCKED. Lucas will always win, if you keep it unlocked, motion sensors or not. DO NOT FORGET TO LOOK TO YOUR LEFT OFF OF THE PC, AND GET UP SOMETIMES TO CHECK THE BACK OF YOUR APARTMENT AND YOUR BACK DOOR. Noir likes to hide out at your window or your back door, and sometimes will even get into the apartment and be standing in front of your bed. If you catch them before they can get to you at your desk, you will survive. If not, they will kill you. Lastly, enjoy the experience. This game WILL frustrate and annoy you, and it will scare the ever loving crap out of you. Don't let yourself get too frustrated, if you find yourself getting angry, stop playing and come back to it later. No game is worth getting upset over. -Much Love, 8bl_LadySamus www.twitch.tv/8bl_ladysamus
