General Information ----------------------------------------------------------- This is a walkthrough for the game called "Love Chronicles: The Sword and the Rose". The game was released in 2011, and it is the sequel to "Love Chronicles: The Spell". To contact me about this guide, send me a message via GameFAQs or @arglefumph on Twitter. Walkthrough ----------------------------------------------------------- The game has two modes: regular and expert. They are the same, except in expert mode, the hint and skip buttons take longer to refill. Also, there are no sparkles, indicating items you can interact with. 003a. The Cottage and the Spirit Sword ----------------------------------------------------------- The Prince lands on an island which is frozen. A rose is before you. Click on the rose, and it will move to the lower/left corner of the screen. This magic rose can thaw ice. Try it out, by using the rose on the two frozen patches on ice on this screen. See how the ice gets melted? Pick up the rope on the right side of the screen, then move forward to the next screen. Click on the woman here, and she disappears. She leaves behind a letter. Click on it to read it. The letter explains that she is the princess, and the witch has stolen her life force. If you can gather all of the rose's thirty-three petals, you can save the princess. There is a patch of ice with a petal here. Use the rose on the ice. The ice melts, and you get a petal. On almost every screen of the game, there is a patch of ice you can thaw, in order to get a petal. Get used to melting ice with the rose! Pick up the bitter green petal, which is on the tree to the right. It is being blown by the wind. The sign here indicates that the way to the castle is forward. There is a cart with hay here, but you cannot sort through it, until you get a pitchfork. Go forward. There is another patch of ice here. Melt it with the rose for a petal, and pick up the bucket which was in the ice. The way to the left is blocked by thorns, so go forward to a tree. The tree is cursed, and it is blocking the way to the castle. Grab the glowing mushrooms and the venus fly trap flower in the lower left, then go back a screen. See the flies surrounding the animal skull on the right? Use the fly trap on the skull to get a fly. Go forward and use the fly on the spider web in the lower/right. The spider takes the fly and leaves. You can now click the web to remove it. This reveals a pair of garden shears. Pick them up. Go back a screen and use the shears on the thorns to the left. Use the shears three times to clear the pathway to the cottage. On the pathway, there is a sign warning people about a beast. There is also a patch of ice at the base of a tree. Use the rose to melt the ice; take the corkscrew root that is underneath it. Go forward to the cottage. The note on the door says there is a potion which can undo the curse on the tree. Just what we need! Use the rose on the ice patch and take the watering can which is right of the ice patch. Zoom in on the doors to the basement and take the claw. Click on the left side of the screen to go to the backside of the cottage. Grab the blue device on the left side of the screen. You will use this to build various machines, over the course of the game. There is a generator here, which needs to be powered. To do so, grab the shovel by the front of the tower, then open the oven and the coal bin. Take the crank from inside the coal bin, and put the bucket by the coal bin. Use the shovel on the coal bin, to put coal in the bucket. Grab the bucket of coal, then use the bucket on the oven. Use the shovel on the bucket to shovel coal in the oven. Pull the lever above the oven to vent the smoke. You can look at the generator now, but without the instructions, you can't figure out how to start it. Go back to the front of the house. Zoom in on the doors leading to the basement. Put the rope on the hook here. Zoom in on the well and put the crank there. Rotate the crank, which pulls the rope and opens the basement doors. Go inside. On the left side of the screen are generator instructions. Take them, then go to the backside of the house. Start the generator, by following the instructions. The instructions are kept in your journal, if you need to refer back to them. To start the generator, you pull the lever, spin the dial to the right position, flip the switch, then pull another lever. Starting the generator lights up the house. Return to the basement. Take the meteorite from the top shelf of the case here, then go up the stairs into the house. Pull the elevator lever to see it doesn't work. Click on the elevator box, and a key falls out. Take the key. Go back a screen. Use the key on the drawer in the bottom shelf for a hidden objects challenge. Find all the items listed on the bottom of the screen to get missing parts. Go upstairs and use the missing parts on the elevator gearbox. Put the fuses in the correctly-sized spots, and put the gears in the correct spots so they all spin. The gear on the right is already in place. Solving the puzzle fixes the elevator. Grab the star map which is above the window, then use the elevator to reach the second floor. Use the star map on the telescope and look at it for a puzzle. Use the cranks to match the picture with the stars; the correct outline is in the lower/right corner. Solving this puzzle lets you know what order to combine ingredients. Go back, to the interior of the house. Zoom in on the area in the lower/left, where you can make a potion. Take the list of ingredients and the wire cutters. Look at the shelf in the upper/left. Take the spring and the pangolin's eye. Look at the bookshelf to see a machine. Use the spring here for lightning. Go to the backside of the house. Use the wire cutters on the briefcase in the lower/left for a hidden objects challenge. Find everything, and you use the invention box for the first time. You're inventing a grinder! Put all the various things together in the right spots, in order to build it. You should have everything you need for the potion. Go back inside the house and put everything besides the claw and the watering can on the lower/left table. Use the claw on the grinder and use the claw dust on the table to start a puzzle. Click on the seven ingredients in the proper order, according to the star chart you found. Solving the puzzle gets you some potion. Go back to the cursed tree. Use the potion on the tree to cure it. It opens a pathway in the lower/right. Go through it. Take the glowing mushrooms, use the rose on the ice patch and use the empty watering can on the water to fill it. Go up. The tree moves aside, opening the pathway to the Spirit Sword. Go forward. There is a pitchfork, leaning against a tree by hard ground. Take the pitchfork and go backwards three screens. Use the pitchfork on the hay cart several times for a hidden objects challenge, which creates a ground tiller. Now go forward three screens and use the ground tiller on the tree. Then, use the full watering can on the tree for two fast-growing fruits. Go back a screen and down to the underground area. Refill your watering can, then go forward twice. Unfreeze the ice patch with the rose and gather the four planks. There is dirt, at the base of the statues. Use the watering can on the dirt, then put the fast-growing fruit inside. You can now look at the yellow-brownish thing by the right statue. It's actually the secret entrance to a cave. Take the stone symbol on the left and go back a screen. Use the stone symbol on the stone on the left for a hidden objects challenge. Solving the challenge gives you stone pieces. Go forward. Use the stone pieces on the cave entrance. Click and drag the pieces into place. Click once to rotate a piece. Put them, so they fill the outline completely. When you do it, the cave entrance opens. Go in the cave. Put the glowing mushrooms into the holder on the left to light up the room. Use the rose on the ice patch for a crowbar. Use the crowbar on the treasure chest on the stairs for five symbol keys. Go forward for a two part puzzle. In the first part, press the left and right buttons to move chains. Sometimes, when you move one chain, it moves another chain. You want them all to line up, so their locks are in the middle. In the second part of the puzzle, put the five symbol keys in the five locks. In this room, you learn the story behind the sword and how the witch cursed the princess. A star symbol appears on the left. Take it, then go back a screen. Use the star symbol on the rock for a hidden objects challenge. This gives you rings. Go forward. Use the rings on the six chains here. Pull the six chains in the proper order (3-1-6-4-2-5) to get the Spirit Sword. You also get a plank. Go back two screens. Use the five planks on the bridge to the right, then cross it. If you have not yet collected seven petals, the ghost of the princess appears, and you cannot cross the bridge. 003b. The Castle ----------------------------------------------------------- The bridge is destroyed behind you, so you cannot go back to any of the previous screens. Grab the branch in the upper/right, and take the flint from the base of the tree in the lower/left. Use the rose to melt the ice patch, then go right to the next screen. Take the garden shears from the path and use them on the thorny bushes for a lever. Melt the ice patch for tree bark and a twig. Go back a screen. Zoom in on the tree stump. Use the tree bark on it, then use the twig on it. Click on beetles' heads to knock them down. You'll get a bag of wood beetles. Then, use the flint on the firestone in the middle of the screen. This starts a fire. Use the branch on the fire to get a branch which is on fire. Go right to the next screen. There is a big web between two trees. Use the tree bark on the tree on the left, then use the burning branch on the web. Go forward to the castle gate. Use the rose to melt the ice patch, then zoom in on the gate controls. Put the lever into place for a puzzle. You want to pull the levers to move the four pieces, so they form a picture of a rose. When you solve the puzzle, the gate goes down, and you can go forward, into the castle courtyard. In the courtyard, you can move your mouse to the side of the screen to scroll left or right. On the right side, you can go forward to a greenhouse. On the left side, you can go forward to a locked gate. There is an ice patch on an arch; melt it with the rose. There is a tree in the middle of this area. Zoom in on it to get a large stone and tree bark. There is a fountain towards the left of this area. Zoom in on it and use the rose on an ice patch for a plate piece. Go to the locked gate on the left. Use the rose to melt an ice patch here, and put the plate piece on the plate to the left. This gives you a puzzle. You need to move the pieces around to form a poem, which reads "the crystal is black, the curse from it back, souls from it hack, pure souls from it crying, its forces undying". Solving the puzzle gets you a sunbeam disk. Move to the greenhouse. Use the rose to melt the ice patch. Use the garden shears on the fountain. Use the large stone on the top of the fountain for an eight pointed star, then solve the hidden objects challenge on the fountain for chips. Zoom in on the greenhouse door. Place the chips and the sunbeam disk on the door for a puzzle. You want to move the chips around, so they match the pictures. For example, snowflake and icicles go in the lower/right corner. If the two items in a corner are correct, it changes color. Solve the puzzle, so you can go into the greenhouse. Use the rose on the ice patch here. Take the knife from the table on the lower/right and zoom in on the table to see a book. It mentions fast-growing fertilizer, which works on the fire tree here. Zoom in on the cupboard in the lower/right. Use the rose on the ice patch here, and take the instructions for a potion. Later on, you'll make the fertilizer here. There is a cloth hanging from the fire tree. Use the knife on the cloth to get cloth. There is a cupboard near the middle of the room. Use the knife on the lock to open it. Take the faucet, matches, shovel and chalk from inside. Zoom in on the plant pots. Use the shovel on all five of them, for keys. Use the keys on the manhole cover, then turn the keys in the proper order (blue, purple, yellow, red, green) to open the manhole cover. Go down the manhole. Take the torch on the wall and use the rose on the ice patch. Go forward to the next room. Put the torch in the torch support on the left, and use the matches on the torch to light the room. Use the rose on the ice patch here, take the pick in the middle, and take the ladder on the right. Use the faucet on the large barrel and attempt to turn the faucet. Nothing happens! The liquid inside must be frozen! This triggers a hidden objects challenge. Solve it for a drill. Use the drill on the barrel to make a hole. Use the rose on the hole, then turn on the faucet. Water is coming out of the barrel. Use the cloth on the water. You have a wet cloth now. See the door leading upstairs? Use the wet cloth there to clean off the sign. Follow the instructions on the sign, using the chalk to mark every brick on the list. When you solve the puzzle, a brick is circled. Use the pick on this brick for a key. Go back twice. Use the ladder on the ledge to the right. Climb up the ledge and use the key to open the door. The Prince goes inside the castle proper. Open the door here. The Prince sees the witch put up a rope and start a fire. Oh no! Go back one screen. Take the mop on the right, then take the skull from the lion statue on the left. Go back four times, to the castle courtyard. Pull the rope the witch set up, for a hidden objects challenge. Solve it for a fire extinguisher. Before going back inside, check out the doorway on the left part of the courtyard. Use the skull to open the lock. Take the pair of tongs that is inside here. Now go back inside the castle, where the fire is. Use the fire extinguisher to put out the fire. When the fire it out, use the broom or "swab" on the ceiling to reveal numbers. You're going to make a portal here, sometime later. Look at the couch and take the clock instructions. Look at the chair, and the Princess appears. She explains that you need several ingredients, to open the portal. Take the tile from the chair and take the cup from the ground. The only door you can go through now is the one on the far left. Go through it, and use the matches on the left to light up the room. Use the rose to melt the ice patch, then look at the fountain. Use the tile here for a puzzle. Make a circular symbol for a rose indentation. We'll come back to it later. Look on the couch to the left for a glove. Look at the painting to the left for part of a picture. Go up the stairs. Use the rose on the ice and use the glove on a piece of glass to pick it up. Go back, then zoom in on the dead plant to the right. Use the glass on it to get the rose. Put the rose inside the rose indentation, in the fountain. This gives you a box handle. Go back a room, to the room with four doorways. Zoom in on the couch and use the box handle on the box to open it. Inside is a two-part puzzle. For the first part, put the picture piece on the right. Simple. For the second part, fill the symbol on the left with all the gems. This is more difficult. Solving the puzzle gets you a crystal. Use it above the rightmost door to open it. Go through the door to a chess- themed area. Melt the ice patch with the rose and use the tongs to get a paper from the fire on the left. On the wall is a chess puzzle. You want to select the five squares, indicated by the paper on the right. Make sure each piece is in the correct row and column! Solving the puzzle opens the door to the library. Go right to the library. Take the staff and use the rose on the ice patch. Solve the hidden objects challenge in the back for chess pieces. Open the cupboard on the left and solve the hidden objects challenge there for a chemistry set. Now you can build the fertilizer in the greenhouse! Before you do that, look at the dresser on the right, with a bust on it. Take the paper and the chip on there. Then, pull aside the curtain on the right to reveal a new room. In this room, melt the ice patch with the rose. Look at the clock and take the chip from the bottom. Put both chips on the table for a matching puzzle. You get clock hands. Put the clock hands on the clock and set the clock to 7:45 for part of a page. Go back a room. Look at the book on the table. Put the page down, then pick up the chess pieces and the book. Look at the painting of the princess. Put the chess pieces here for music paper and a locked safe. Go back to the chess room. Use the chess pieces on the board on the table for a puzzle. The way to solve the puzzle is to put each piece in the correct row and column; if it is in a correct row or column, the side of the board lights up. Solving the puzzle gives you the code to the locked safe. Go back to the safe and open it with the code for a purple crystal. Now that you're all done with the chess room and library, it's a good time to go back to the greenhouse. Zoom in on the cupboard in the lower/right and put the chemistry set into place. Solve the chemistry puzzle for fertilizer, then use the fertilizer on the tree, then pick a fire flower. Go back to the room with four doors. Use the purple crystal above the second door from the right, in order to open it. This leads to a music room. Go inside it. Melt the ice patch and zoom in on the shelf to the left. Take the treble clef and piece of paper. Take the card from the chair, then look at the harp. This is a puzzle, where you repeat the melody by clicking the strings in a specific order. Solving the puzzle gives you notes. Look at the organ. Put the sheet music into place, put notes on the sheet music and put the treble clef on the sheet music. The organ plays itself for a bit. This opens up a small opening, left of the organ, where you get another crystal. It also triggers a hidden objects challenge by the harp, where you can make a phonograph. Go to the room with four doors. Use the crystal above the second-from-left door, in order to open it. This gives you access to the playroom. Melt the ice and take the mirror in the center of the room. On the right side of the room, solve the hidden objects challenge for cards and solve the jigsaw puzzle for a card. In the middle of the screen is a pillow. Zoom in on it. Use the glove with glass on the pillow for a dragon horn. Use the dragon horn on the dragon to open up the puppet show. Take the toy sword by the table leg, and use it on the puppet show for a card. Look at the table on the left. You should have all the cards now. Put the cards on the table for a puzzle. Sort the cards by good and bad. This gives you a book. Almost done with this area! Return to the music room. Use the phonograph on the organ, then use the mirror on the sheet music. This gives you backwards music. Return to the library. Use the two books on the bookshelf for a puzzle. You want to move books around, so the four books touching a square add up to the number on the square. Solving the puzzle gets you the book of thirteen invocations. Now, return to the room with four doors. You have everything you need to make a portal! Zoom in on the floor. Solve a puzzle, where you have to turn the rings in order to form a picture. Put the phonograph, fire flower, eight- pointed star, cup and book into the right spots. Put tree bark in the cup. Then, there's a puzzle where you select the five items in the correct order, according to your notes. Use the staff to do so. When you're done with the puzzle, the portal is created! Step through it to reach the final area of the game. You cannot go through, if you do not have 26 rose petals. 003c. The Tower ----------------------------------------------------------- Here in the tower, there's not much to do, besides melt the ice patch. Do that, then go through the doorway to the hall. Take the rope on the right and melt the ice patch. Both doors on the left are locked now. Solve the hidden objects challenge for stars and pick up the red gem that's on the floor, in front of the left door. Go through the door on the right. Melt the ice patch and look at the door to the tower. That's the tower where the princess is. Darn, we teleported ourselves to the wrong tower! Go back to the first room of the tower. Use the gem on the bird for a hairpin. Use the hairpin on the locked chest (under the bird) for a magnet. Open the chest on the left and use the magnet here for a key. Go forward to the hallway. Open the leftmost door with the key. Go inside. Melt the ice patch with the rose, take the lion coin at the base of the table and pick up a chair. Look at the table for a puzzle. You have to move the shields around, so they match the designs on the chairs. Look at the board on the left. Move the drawings around, so each row has a matching design. Solving the puzzle gives you a clue for the symbol puzzle. Look at the knight on the right wall for the symbol puzzle. It's simple: press the six symbols in the order indicated by the clue. You have to press them in groups of two. Solving the puzzle gives you a royal coin. Go back to the hallway. Use the royal coin on the door in the middle to open it. Go inside the room. Use the rose to melt the ice patch, for a paper with ink on it. Solve the hidden objects challenge for letter tiles. The trolley in this room doesn't work. Use the rope on the lever, then push the trolley. This gives you access to a puzzle. Put the lion coin on the puzzle to start it; your goal is to move the red and green balls so only green balls surround the center square. Solving the puzzle gets you a ring. Pick up the crank which is by the bars on the right. That's all we can do here for now, so return to the first room on the tower. Solve the hidden objects challenge for an x-ray film developer. Use it on the desk and use the paper with ink on the film developer for film. Use the crank on the side of the table to create a small darkroom for developing film. Go inside the darkroom and use the film. You have a puzzle, mixing three different color combinations to develop the film. When you solve the puzzle, you get the code 694. Go back to the middle room of the hallway, the one with the trolley. Zoom in on the safe. Use the ring here and set the safe to 694. Pull the handle to open it. Take the sphere that's inside, then use the sphere on the table in the knight's room for the word "witch". Go back to the middle room. Zoom in on the desk. Put the tiles on the desk, then spell out the word "witch" for a door ring. At last! You can leave this area! Go to the tower with the princess. Put the door ring on the door to open it. If you do not have 31 rose petals, you cannot proceed into this, the final tower. Use the rose on the ice patch here, then open the door. Go up the stairs to the room with the beast. The mirror shows that the beast IS the princess! Oh no! Take the key from the beast and go down the stairs. Melt the final ice patch with the rose for a hammer. Take the sun emblem from the left and use the key on the door to open it. Go through. Look at the window on the right. Use the hammer on the window several times to break it. Take the key, then use the key to open the chest in this room. Solve the hidden objects challenge inside for threads. Zoom in on the table. Use the threads here for a simple puzzle. You need to finish the cross-stitch of a rose. When you're done, put it on the lantern on the right. This illumines a spot on the wall. Look at this spot. Click to move the rose aside, then put the stars in place for a moon medallion. Go back upstairs, to the room with the beast. Look at the black crystals in the lower/right. Put the sun and moon medallions in place for element tokens. Go through the mirror to the room where you got tongs. Put the element stones on the wall for a puzzle. Move the tiles around, so the two water ones are on the left, the two wind ones on top, the two fire ones on right and the two earth ones on the bottom. Solving the puzzle gives you a staircase. Go down the stairs to see the black crystal. Use the spirit sword on it, to destroy it. You get a corporeal sword. Go back twice. The black crystal starts to crumble. Click on it to remove it, then put the sword in the stone on the right. The witch appears in the mirror and talks to the Prince. Once the mirror is destroyed, use the rose on the princess to wake her up. The Princess is awake and the island's curse is gone for good! Alas, it seems the witch is plotting to curse the Prince's island next. Perhaps he will go there and defeat the witch in another game. 004.
