Credits 001-General Information --------------------------------------------------------- This is a walkthrough for the game called “The Shivah: Kosher Edition”. It is available on PC and iOS; I played it on the iPad. This game was produced by Wadjet Eye Games. Disheartened, Rabbit Stone cancels the service and returns to his room. Someone knocks at the door. At the bottom of the screen, the three ways you can react appear. Tap on an option to pick it. Your options are give the brush-off, state the obvious and declare your intentions. Pick one of those three options twice, and “grudgingly acquiesce” becomes an option. Chose to “grudgingly acquiesce”, then tap on the door to open it. The cantor comes in with Detective Durkin, of the New York Police. In the conversations, you can choose what Rabbi Stone says. The third option will always be “rabbinical response”, which means he will ask a question. Detective Durkin asks about Mr. Jack Lauder, who used to be a member of Rabbi Stone’s congregation. Lauder left eight years ago and never contacted Rabbi Stone since. Detective Durkin says that Jack Lauder was murdered three days ago. The odd part? In Lauder’s will, he left $10,000 to Rabbi Stone. Rabbi Stone has just become the police’s prime suspect in the murder. Once Durkin leaves, you can control Rabbi Stone. Tap a place on the floor to have Rabbi Stone walk there. Tap on the top of the screen to see the two things in Rabbi Stone’s pockets: his business card and a dictionary of common Yiddish words. Tap and hold down on the screen to see all the items you can interact with. Tap on one of these items, and two icons show up. The left icon is “interact with the item”, and the right icon is “look at the icon”. Most of the items here can only be looked at. The computer on the right is an item you can use. Try turning the computer on, and Rabbi Stone realizes that he doesn’t know the logon that the cantor set up for him. The two items in your inventory help you here. Rabbi Stone’s business card says his logon is “RStone”. Enter that, and the password screen comes up. The password clue button on the computer gives you the clue “busybody”. The dictionary says that “yenta” is the Yiddish word you want, so use that as the password. After logging in as “rstone”, password “yenta”, you can use the computer. Here, you can get Jewish jokes and go through his email. The emails show that the synagogue is in debt and about the close (which is why Stone is so disheartened right now), and the congregation members are upset with his depressing homilies. What you need to do on the computer is use the search feature. Do a search for “Jack Lauder”. Two results come up. The first one gives his address, and the second one gives information about his murder. It says he was a member of Beth Tikvah. Do a search for Beth Tikvah. It is a synagogue run by Rabbi Amos Zelig. Do a search for Zelig to get his contact information and a biography. Now that you have two addresses (Jack Lauder’s home and the temple he worshipped at), back away from the computer by pressing the power button in the lower right. Tap on the door to leave through it. The cantor is still here, and he wants to talk about the detective’s visit. The cantor suggests paying a shivah call to the dead man’s family. That will be a good pretense for arriving at Lauder’s house. Leave Rabbi Stone’s office through the door, then leave through the exit at the bottom of the synagogue (between the rows of chairs). A map of Manhattan shows up, and you can visit a destination by tapping on it. Right now, you want to go to the bottom/right location, which is Jack Lauder’s home. Lauder’s widow is here, and she gets upset when she learns who Rabbi Stone is. She’s still angry about the time, eight years ago, when Rabbit Stone threw her and her husband out of the synagogue. Rabbi Stone tells her about the will, and she doesn’t understand what is happening. At this point, say that you want to make amends or that you feel guilty. If you pick “I am selfish”, she gets mad and throws you out of her house. You can talk to her about several things. Talk about the business that she and her husband ran together. The two of them worked in fashion together. Ask about the location of the business to get the address, and ask about the name of the business to learn that it was titled after her maiden name, “Sharma”. Talk about anything else you want, then take your leave. The studio’s location is in the middle of your map. This is where the murder occurred, so make sure to go there. You can look at various things here in the studio. Use the computer here. The password is “Sharma”, which the business was named after. (If you look at Rabbi Stone’s email on his computer, there was an email which made a joke about people using their wives’ maiden names as passwords). Jack’s computer has a ledger and mail. Go through the ledger. It contains three things, mostly: personal checks to Joe DeMarco, checks to the accounting firm of Goldberg and Weiselbaum, and payments from clothing stores which purchased their goods. At the very bottom is a check to Jack’s synagogue, Beth Tikvah. Go through the mail. It contains several emails from his wife and an accountant named Ethan G. You want to read the email from Ethan which is entitled “Meeting.” It says that Ethan is meeting with JDM, who Jack was sending checks to. Putting the clues together, you can determine that JDM was Joe DeMarco, and that Ethan G. the accountant is Ethan Goldberg, of Goldberg and Weiselbuam. The very last email is an email that Lauder tried to send to Rabbi Stone before his death. Return to Rabbi Stone’s synagogue in the upper/right part of the map, then go to his office and use the computer. Do a search for Beth Tikvah to get the address there, if you haven’t done so already, then do a search for Ethan Goldberg. Ethan was also a member of Beth Tikvah, as his emails to Jack Lauder indicated. He was killed outside Paddy O’Hare’s. Do a search for “Paddy O’Hare” to get the address. Time to learn about the “notes” feature, which you can have used earlier. Tap on the top part of the screen, the tap on “notes” to see the things Rabbi Stone thinks are important. Tap on “JDM” and move it over “Joe De Marco”. Rabbit Stone will combine the two notes and deduce that the JDM who Ethan Goldberg met with is Joe DeMarco. Go to Jack Lauder’s house and talk with his widow again. You have the option to “consult your notes”. Pick it, then select one of the notes to talk about it. You want to talk about Joe DeMarco. The widow says that he invested in their company when it was getting started; Joe DeMarco and Lauder were introduced through Temple. It’s about time we visit the synagogue in question. Leave and go to Beth Tikvah. It’s a rich synagogue with lots of members, which is a world of difference from Rabbi Stone’s synagogue. Go through the door in the back to meet with Rabbi Amos Zelig. Open up your notes and talk to Rabbi Zelig about everything. When you’re done, mention the inconsistencies in his story. It seems like Zelig is covering something up. Zelig basically admits that he was pretending not to know about Lauder or Goldberg, because he didn’t want any murder scandals attached to his synagogue. Zelig gives you his card, then you leave. Go back to Rabbi Stone’s office and use the computer. Log out of Rabbi Stone’s account. We have Rabbi Zelig’s contact info, so let’s hack HIS email account. Enter the login “rabbiz” (listed on his business card) and the password “dodger” (Zelig’s biography on the computer says this is his dog’s name). Check Rabbi Zelig’s email. It seems that Zelig was the one who introduced Joe DeMarco to Lauder, and Lauder tried to get help from Zelig. Ethan Goldberg also sent Zelig some emails. Zelig also has an email from Joe DeMarco. Leave the synagogue and go to Paddy O’Hare’s, the place where Ethan Goldberg was killed. If you don’t have the address, search for “Paddy O’Hare” on Rabbi Stone’s computer. Enter Paddy O’Hare’s, and if you’ve found all the clues, a man follows you inside and sits at the bar. Talk to him to learn that he is Joe DeMarco. He is deliberately evasive when it comes to your questions. When you ask him about the inconsistencies in his story, he gives in and agrees to talk. Joe goes to the subway. You will probably want to save your game here, before talking to him. Joe pulls out a knife and tries to kill Rabbi Stone. To get through this sequence alive, you want to follow the rabbinical method. In other words, only select questions. Don’t pick the dialogue options which are statements; only pick the ones that are questions. Rabbi Stone will then be able to get the upper hand on Joe DeMarco. DeMarco confesses that he was paid by Rabbi Zelig to kill Lauder and Goldberg. Zelig is involved with the Mafia, and they purposely plot to get people like Lauder deep into debt with investors. At this point, you get the option to kill DeMarco or to show him mercy. After this, Rabbi Stone goes to the Lauder home. The door is unlocked and the window is missing. There is a note on the cloth-covered mirror. Look at it to see that it is from Rabbi Zelig, who wishes to speak with you. This is also a place where you might want to save your game. Go to Zelig’s. He wants you to fake suicide, by jumping off his balcony. In order to make you do this, he threatens to kill Lauder’s widow. There are several ways this situation can play out. 1. If you refuse to go along with the plan, Zelig kills the widow. He gives you another chance to go along with the plan. If you refuse again, he will kill you. 2. If you attempt to grab his gun three times, Zelig will shoot you. 3. If you agree to go along with the plan, and if Joe DeMarco is still alive, he enters at this point. Zelig shoots him. If you agree to go along with the plan, and Joe DeMarco is dead, Zelig kills the widow. As you can see from these choices, if you refuse to go along with the plan, Zelig starts shooting. Agree to the plan. Zelig and Stone go out to the balcony. You have some options here, and if you play around with them, you can learn what they do. If you stall, Zelig takes a step closer. If you grab for the gun, Stone takes a step closer and gets shot. If you climb over the edge, you can jump, climb back down or admire the view. When you admire the view, Zelig admires it with you. What you want to do here is get as close to Rabbi Zelig as possible, then distract him, so you can knock his gun away. Stall once and grab for the gun twice. Climb over the edge, then admire the view to distract him. Then grab the gun. Stone throws the gun over the edge and fistfight breaks out. Once again, you want to win the fight by using the rabbinical method of asking questions. However, Zelig is also a rabbi, which makes things a tad difficult. If he asks a question, you want to answer with a question. If he asks a question and you do NOT answer with a question, he punches you backwards. On the other hand, if he responds to one of your questions with a statement, you can punch him backwards. Basically, throw a punch every time he does NOT answer with a question. Questions you want to ask are “How many others are there?” and “I ask again: How can you live with yourself?” After several successful punches, you get him close to the edge. You then have the choice to either knock him unconscious or through him over the edge. Just like earlier, there are several ways this can play out. 1. If Mrs. Lauder and Rabbi Zelig are both alive, she helps you get Zelig arrested. 2. If Mrs. Lauder is alive but Rabbi Zelig isn’t, she is horrified and refuses to deal with you ever again. 3. If Mrs. Lauder and Rabbi Zelig are both dead, Zelig is blamed for all the deaths. 4. If Mrs. Lauder is dead and Rabbi Zelig isn’t, he blames you for her murder and you are arrested. To summarize, if Mrs. Lauder is alive, the better ending comes when you don’t kill Zelig. If Mrs. Lauder is dead, the better ending comes when you kill Zelig. 003-Credits --------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ is copyright of The Lost Gamer, 2014.
