(q1)== Yumby Toss is a puzzle game where you toss Yumbies - little bird-like creatures - around to pick up cakes. It is similar to Angry Birds, but more focused on puzzles instead of destruction, and more forgiving of mistakes. ==I am having technical problems/I have a question not in this guide (q2)== http://www.yumby.com/contact/ is where you want to go, if you need to contact the publisher. If possible, make sure to tell them any error messages you get, exactly what you were doing (e.g., if the game crashed, what level or menu you were on at the time), and so on. ==Controls (q3)== First off: if there's a button, it is an exception to the below. The buttons are fairly simple - pause the game, restart the level (handy if you've just messed up a toss, as there's no penalty for retrying), bring up the powerup menu (once powerups are introduced in 1:8), show the tutorial popup (in any level with a tutorial popup), or end the current flight and proceed to the next Yumby (during flight; this is a left-pointing arrow in the lower left). Before you toss, you can slide left & right to preview the level. Sometimes, levels need a moment or two to settle after loading; you often have an easier time if you wait a few seconds for this to happen. Slide to see if the level is stable or settling, and to get an overview of the level, before you toss. The simplest control is how to launch your Yumbies. Once the level loads, your Yumbies will be clustered in the lower left. If there is a tutorial popup, tap the X to dismiss it (but read what it says first). Then: 1. Put your finger on the Yumby you wish to toss. The other Yumbies will go away, giving you room to toss. 2. Slide your finger across the screen fast, then let go without delay. It's like tossing a ball (thus the name of the game). Do not release your Yumby until it is in motion, and do not hesitate after you have moved your Yumby. (That said, if you select the wrong Yumby, you can just hold it in place for a few seconds then let go, to cancel the toss and let you select another.) All the characteristics of the toss are taken into account: how fast you flung it, what angle you moved at, where you let go, and so on. You can launch anywhere within a certain box - in the sky, along the ground, the choice is yours, though there is a limit to where you can launch from. If you're unsure of this limit, try dragging the Yumby around slowly; it won't move past a certain point. On your second and later toss, a dotted trail showing the path of the previous toss will be overlaid. On all levels except the first, up & down buttons will appear that let you control your Yumby in flight. Actually, you can tap almost anywhere on the screen; the lower part of the screen is "down", and the rest is "up". Each tap will let your Yumby rise up or speed down. If you toss very slowly, it is possible to "juggle" your Yumby with repeated up taps; this can make some levels (and the Weightless achievement) easy, but does not work on other levels (such as 5:2) where you need to toss hard & fast. Note that if you impact a surface hard enough, your Yumby will curl up for protection: the Yumby is still flying but is no longer controllable. ==Yumbies (q4)== In this game there are 7 Yumbies. You can find the bios of many more in the menus, but only 7 are actually used in the game. Olly (plain blue): basic Yumby. Doesn't do anything special, but you'll be using him a lot. Jozet (pink): lightweight. Gets pushed around twice as hard by wind currents, but does not break things so well. Tork (orange w/hardhat): heavyweight. Punches through breakable blocks with more force. Flip (black): slicer. Ropes, balloons, and chains break the moment he touches them with no loss of force. Any other Yumby loses quite a bit of speed to burst through, assuming they are moving fast enough to do so. Frankus (grey): striker. In certain levels late in the game, spear-throwing enemies appear; contact with them or their spears ends a Yumby's flight immediately...except for Frankus, who ignores the spears and turns the throwers into harmless balls. Daze (light blue w/star and flame hair): boom. He does not bounce off of anything - rather, he explodes like a bomb on contact with any surface. Loon (orange w/crazy face): bounce. Just think of him as living rubber. ==Coins & powerups (q5)== During each level, you can collect coins. The only effect they have on the level itself is to give you a better score (which is often required to get all 3 stars), but the game keeps track of how many coins you pick up. From the main menu, you can go into the store to spend them - or, starting in 1:8, you can access an in-level menu. VERSION DIFFERENCE: The iOS version of Yumby Toss lets you buy more coins via in-app purchasing. The Android version does not, since the publishers wanted to minimize differences for the Kindle and Nook versions. Instead, on Android you simply start with a bunch of coins. Further, on iOS you have to unlock worlds 4 and 5 with coins; these come pre-unlocked on Android (so you won't see the "unlock world" or "buy coins" menus on Android). In both cases, you can buy powerups and accessories. Accessories do nothing other than change your Yumby's graphics (though using one is necessary for the "Accessorize" achievement). To use a powerup, tap it on the bottom menu before you pick up a Yumby; it will be applied to the next Yumby you throw. If you drop and reselect, the powerup will be applied to whichever one you toss. If you are out of a certain kind of powerup, its icon will be grey; tapping it will bring up a menu where you can buy more on the spot, without leaving the level. * Magnet: coins fly toward you in a large radius. * Smash (broken block icon): Yumby gains Tork's breaking power. Don't use this with Tork. (The game refunds your powerup if you try it.) * Bomb: Yumby explodes on contact, just like Daze. (Same deal if you try using this with Daze.) * Slice (scissors icon): gain Flip's cutting power. (You know the drill.) * Redo: the Yumby you toss will not be "used up". Rather, after the flight, the Yumby will still be in the waiting area. In addition to giving you more tosses, this can also let you get more use of a specific Yumby, 3 star scores on some levels may be hard to achieve without powerups, in particular the Redo powerup. ==Soft Meadows (q6)== So let's get to the good stuff: how to beat the game. At first, you only have access to world 1. Note that you get more stars for scoring better in a level; you gain score by collecting coins and cake slices, destroying things, and most importantly, using less than all your Yumbies (1,000 points for each remaining Yumby at the end of a level). 1:1 3-star score: 2100, 2-star score: 800 - Toss Olly to get the cake. - Release your toss around the start of the coin trail to make sure you get all the coins. - You will get 3 stars if you get the cake and all the coins on the first toss. 1:2 3-star score: 3100, 2-star score: 1000 - Toss one of the Ollies slowly and use the up/down controls to navigate along the row of coins. Move in the air upwards to get the second slice of cake. 1:3 3-star score: 2800, 2-star score: 1500 - Toss Olly hard & fast towards the stack of blocks. - When he collides with the column of blocks, he might plow through in just the right way to get both slices of cake. - If not, use the next Olly to get the remaining cake slices 1:4 3-star score: 3500, 2-star score: 2000 - Toss Tork to break the red blocks that are acting as a barrier to the cake. - Toss Olly to get the now-available cake 1:5 3-star score: 5800, 2-star score: 2600 - Toss Olly towards the large TNT crate at the base of the tall red column. - Once that barrier is destroyed, toss Tork hard & fast to blast through the stacked blocks and get the upper cake. - Toss another Tork low to blast through the bottom blocks and get the lower cake. - If Tork misses a cake, use Olly to pick it up. 1:6 3-star score: 3000, 2-star score: 2000 - Use Flip to slice through the first three balloons, the cords of the next three, then the upper cake. - With the obstacles cleared, use another Yumby to get the bottom cake. 1:7 3-star score: 2900, 2-star score: 1400 - Toss Tork hard & fast to plow through everything at the top and get the cake. - Toss Olly low to detonate the near explosive on ground. - Toss Olly again slowly to get remaining cake, threading through the slight gap using up/down tapping. 1:8 3-star score: 3300, 2-star score: 2000 - Toss Tork hard & fast to break through everything and get both slices of cake. - If you can't do it in one throw, use the remaining yumbies to clean up. 1:9 3-star score: 3200, 2-star score: 1800 - Use Flip to pop all the balloons near the ceiling. You may want to preview the level and wait for all the balloons to settle first. - Use Tork to clear both red lattice barriers, picking up both cakes on the way if you can. - If there is any remaining cake, use any remaining Yumby to get it. ==Licorice Forest (q7)== Now that you have beaten the Soft Meadows, you can access the world map. This shows all 5 worlds, each of which has 9 levels. You can play the remaining worlds in any order, but it is recommended that you take them in the order they are numbered, since some later worlds build on things you will see in earlier worlds. (On the iOS only, you have to purchase worlds 4 and 5 before you can play them.) 2:1 3-star score: 3000, 2-star score: 2600 - Use Flip to pop all the balloons. While he is still in flight, steer him downward to get the coins at bottom before the large circular orb covers them up. - Then toss Tork to break the cages. - Use any remaining Yumbies to collect the cake. 2:2 3-star score: 4000, 2-star score: 2200 - Use Flip (or any Yumby) to slice the cord from which the orb is dangling. The orb will fall and crush the fan. - Use the Ollies to break the cage and collect the cake slices. 2:3 3-star score: 4000, 2-star score: 2600 - Use Tork to bash all the bouncy red licorice pieces out of the way. Note that they are not destructible: the bombs will not break them. - use the Jozets to collect cake and coins. 2:4 3-star score: 4950, 2-star score: 2000 - Use Tork to crush all easy-to-break red-lattice blocks that are resting *on top* of the hard to break red blocks (you should be able to clear all of the lattice blocks in one toss). - Toss Flip high to slice all ropes to let the explosives drop. They should fall down and destroy the large blocks. - Use the remaining Yumbies to collect the cake slices. 2:5 3-star score: 4800, 2-star score: 2000 - Toss one Flip high to snip the near cord of the dangling block. (Note that it is dangling by two cords.) The block will swing to the right, crushing the other red blocks. - Use the other Flip to snip the remaining rope. - Use the remaining Yumbies to collect the cake slices. 2:6 3-star score: 5100, 2-star score: 2800 - Toss Tork low so that he slides along ground and breaks all the breakables at the very bottom. - Toss another Yumby high to hit the bomb before the large orb and cause it to roll down the slope, hitting the button and removing the spiky red pillar guarding the middle area. - Use the remaining Yumbies to collect the cake slices. 2:7 3-star score: 3000, 2-star score: 2500 - Toss Tork hard & fast to break large red block in center of screen. You may need both Torks. - Wait for the balloons attached to the bombs to float up. - When said balloons are resting on the ceiling, toss another Yumby to collide with the bombs, which should explode and break both cages. - Use the remaining Yumbies to collect the cake slices. 2:8 3-star score: 3400, 2-star score: 2100 - Toss Jozet low to collect cake at bottom of the screen FIRST. (This area will become inaccessible later.) If possible, have her pop up afterward to hit the wind current and be blown back to snip the rope and cause cake-in-cage to drop onto the bombs. - If not, use Flip to cut the rope. - Use Olly to collect the freed cake slice. 2:9 3-star score: 4400, 2-star score: 1500 - Toss one Flip slow, guiding his flight with up/down taps to cut both ropes and hit the big red button to shut down the fans. - Toss Tork low, hard, & fast to break any remaining cages. - Use the other Flip to collect the remaining cake slices. ==Snowy Peaks (q8)== Welcome to the white wintry world. Hopefully you warmed up on the previous levels first. 3:1 3-star score: 4500, 2-star score: 2500 - Toss Flip to pop all balloons at top. Get both upper cake slices once you're through. - Toss Jozet (or Olly if necessary) low, aiming to ride the wind currents forward then back to get the final cake. 3:2 3-star score: 3500, 2-star score: 2000 - Toss Olly hard & fast at the balloons on top. He might not be Flip, but he can pop them if thrown with enough force. The bombs should fall and break the large blocks below. - Toss Tork hard & fast to get the higher cake. - Toss Flip low to pop the remaining balloons and get the lower cake. 3:3 3-star score: 3300, 2-star score: 2300 - Toss Olly or Tork (but not Flip) high, hard & fast, to snip the cords, drop the explosives, and get the upper cake. - Toss Flip to pop the balloons around the lower cake, and pick up said cake. 3:4 3-star score: 3700, 2-star score: 2400 - Toss one Yumby high to hit the explosive on the top-right ramp. That same Yumby should fall and get the cake at bottom before the circular candies fall down and cover it. - Use the remaining Yumbies to collect the cake slice from the top-right ramp. 3:5 3-star score: 3600, 2-star score: 2000 - Toss one Tork hard & fast to break the large red block. - Toss the other Tork slowly, through the upper-left cake then diving down to break the red horizontal lattice block. - Toss Jozet slowly into fan current on right side of screen. She should float up and get all the remaining cake. 3:6 3-star score: 3800, 2-star score: 2500 - Toss Flip into fan currents so he blows back and hits the large red button on the left-hand side, and the cake near that red button. This may be one of the trickier tosses you have encountered yet. - Toss Olly or Jozet low to get cakes available on the lower right-hand side, now that the button removed the spiky pillar. - Toss Tork hard & fast into wind currents. He has enough mass to pass through them and get the cakes in the top right. - You can also crush the fans to stop the wind, but you probably don't want to waste a Yumby on that. 3:7 3-star score: 2650, 2-star score: 1550 - The large white and blue blocks are weaker than they seem. - Toss Tork slowly so that he breaks those blocks (but not too slowly: you want to cross the gap you make before the candies fall into it). Make sure to collect that cake slice on the bottom (third from the left), since it will be buried by the time a second Yumby could get to it. - Use the remaining Yumbies to collect any remaining cake slices. - If the candies on the right bunch up, try knocking one of them aside with your first Tork after collecting the lower cake slice. 3:8 3-star score: 6500, 2-star score: 3500 - There are many ways to beat this level, none of them easy. - Toss one Tork high to knock large circular orb to roll to the right. You want to stall out/ball up, so you fall through the lattices, breaking them and collecting the three cake slices on the left, while the orb falls and breaks the bottom fan. - Use another Tork to break the middle fan. - Use an Olly to pick up the center-right cake slice and open a path to the final cake slice. - Use either the other Olly or a Jozet to pick up the final cake slice. 3:9 3-star score: 2500, 2-star score: 1500 - Remember how you can launch from different places? You will need to do that here. - Toss Tork hard & fast along the ground, to blast through crates and collect the cake slice on the bottom. -Toss Flip high to snip all cords and let the circular candies fall. Don't forget to pick up the top cake slice. Don't go too high off the screen, or you'll run into the blocks the cords are anchored to. - Use Olly to get the middle cake slice. ==Brittle Caverns (q9)== Starting here, you will occasionally see spear-throwing Gobblers. (If you crack open the game files, you can see they're internally called "Spearmint"s. The Gobblers you saw in the opening cinematic are also present, as lesser enemies that just walk around, but their levels were left on the cutting room floor.) Running into them or their spears immediately ends a Yumby's flight (unless it's Frankus). Sufficiently powerful impact (or, again, Frankus) will turn them into harmless balls. (You can't kill them, just defeat them.) 4:1 3-star score: 4800, 2-star score: 2600 - Toss Frankus at the middle enemy, and the explosive behind it, to clear a path. - Toss Jozet slowly, to collect all the exposed cakes. - This is a good opportunity to use magnet powerup, to get all the scattered coins without using more Yumbies. 4:2 3-star score: 3800, 2-star score: 2800 - The shadows make it hard to see, but if you look close you should be able to see through it. In particular, you need to find the enemy in the shadows before you toss. - Toss Frankus low, to take out that enemy. Try to hit the lantern in the same toss. Alternately, try to hit one or both of the explosives on the bottom set of boulders. - Toss Tork high and slow to break the chocolate barriers protecting the upper cakes, and collect the cake slices. - Use Olly and Jozet on the bottom, to push the boulders aside and get the remaining cake slice. - In theory this can be done with just Frankus, Tork, and just one of Olly or Jozet. Pulling it off is difficult - but that's the difference between beating the level and getting 3 stars. Magnet powerups are recommended to pull in stray coins if you're trying for 3 stars. 4:3 3-star score: 4600, 2-star score: 3000 - Toss Flip high to snip two ropes hanging from ceiling. Be careful to steer over the spears! - Wait for the large orb to roll down the pillars. - If any enemies remain, use Frankus to take them out. - Collect the remaining cake slices with the remaining Yumbies. You will probably have to down-tap to get the cake slice in the pit. 4:4 3-star score: 2900, 2-star score: 1400 - Toss Olly high to hit the top-left explosive. That will create a chain reaction, taking out more explosives and barriers. - Toss Daze through the now-open middle area, then up into the platform over the poison volcano. At least one or should fall and crush the volcano, leaving the nearby cake slices open. - Collect the cake slices with the remaining Yumbies. Slow tosses work best. 4:5 3-star score: 5100, 2-star score: 2700 - This is another level with multiple ways to beat it. - Toss Flip high to take out all the balloons. The cages will fall; preferably taking out the enemies and hitting explosives. - Toss any Yumby into the explosive in front of the block with a face, to destroy it. - Toss Frankus into any remaining enemies, hitting the explosives over the right side hard chocolate bar if it is still present. - Use Tork to break the cages if they are not yet broken. - Collect the cake slices with the remaining Yumbies. 4:6 3-star score: 3500, 2-star score: 2000 - Toss one Frankus to hit the explosives that the top-left enemy is standing on. - Toss another Frankus up high to take out the other enemy on top, and get the cake slice up there. - Toss Daze over the remaining enemy to get both exposed bottom cake slices, then into the blocks on the right so his explosion breaks the cage. - Use Tork to pick up the last cake slice. 4:7 3-star score: 4300, 2-star score: 2500 - Toss Olly or Jozet to hit lantern and light the scene. - Toss Olly or Jozet very slowly. Navigate upwards to gently brush the first big red button without going into a ball, then head up and pick up the cake slices. Don't worry about the second button. - It is possible to beat this level using only one Yumby if you do it in the dark! 4:8 3-star score: 5000, 2-star score: 3500 - Use Tork first. Toss him slowly through middle of screen, breaking the brittle-looking blocks and getting cakes slices on the way. Make sure he gets all the lower cake slices and then hits explosives on right side. This explosive will cause the large orb on the right to drop down. (If you can't get both slices on the right, get the bottom one. The top one is possible to get after the right orb drops.) - Use another Yumby, tossing slowly and navigating around the orb on the left, to get the remaining cake slice. 4:9 3-star score: 3750, 2-star score: 2400 -Toss Tork high to hit the lantern and light the scene. This same Tork should also hit the explosive near the cake in the cage. - Use another Tork to smash the cage, and the chocolate barrier behind it. - Toss Jozet lightly to navigate through this new opening you have created. She should get one slice of cake and then drop down into fan current (picking up a second), which should blow her so she bounces off the solid column on the left, and over the lip so she gets the final cake slice on the right side. ==Crumpet's Lab (q10)== Congratulations on making it this far. As a reward, you get to face the really difficult levels. Note that the metal chains can not be cut by anyone but Flip (or someone with a Slice powerup); any other fast-moving Yumby will be stopped cold, usually to slide slowly down the chain. Remember, there's no shame in using powerups if you have to. 5:1 3-star score: 6400, 2-star score: 3000 - Ricochet Loon up over the middle barrier. This may take a few tries, but that's why you have 4 Loons (and infinite retries). Generally, throw hard & fast toward the top of the lip, aiming to bounce once, bounce again off the upper left side of the open column, and sail from there over to the right. Once over on the other side, Loon should bounce around and hit at least one of the two bombs. This will create a hole in the center that you can toss other Yumbies through to get slices of cake more easily. - The rest should be obvious. 5:2 3-star score: 5900, 2-star score: 4000 - Toss Loon hard & fast through the gap at an upwards angle. He should get a cake slice, hit the high wall on right side, bounce off, get the other slice of cake, fly towards the left, snip the chain, and detonate the explosive. - Once the cakes in bulbs are free, toss Loon again the same way to get them. 5:3 3-star score: 5700, 2-star score: 3500 - Toss Flip to break the chain...but only the chain on the left. Use the barrier above the explosive to halt his flight. The explosive should swing to the right and detonate against some hard to break blocks. - Toss Tork to break the cake out of the bulbs. - Collect the cake slices with the remaining Yumbies. 5:4 3-star score: 5600, 2-star score: 3000 - This is yet another level with multiple ways to beat it. - Toss Tork hard & fast through glass bulbs. Tork should smash those, but then stop at the chain. - Toss Flip to snip the chain. (Alternately, apply the Slice powerup to Tork before the first toss, so he can take out the bulbs and the chain.) and also snip chain. (only possible if he has the slice power up) - Toss loon to get cake in bulb, then bounce back left (high) and get cake at the top of screen above the blue block. 5:5 3-star score: 4100, 2-star score: 3300 - Toss Loon low to get the two cake slices at the bottom first. - Toss Flip to snip one chain. - You will probably not get over to the other chain, so toss Flip again to snip the other (picking up a cake slice on the way), then use Tork to smash the bulb in the upper right and collect its cake slice. - Alternately, Tork with the Slice powerup, and a hard & fast toss, can snip the chains and smash through the bulbs between them in one toss. 5:6 3-star score: 5400, 2-star score: 3000 - Toss Jozet slowly at the bottom gear tooth to move it 45 degrees to the right. - Toss Loon low and hard. Make sure he rises up at the same angle as the gear tooth. Make sure he hits the cake in bulb, smashes the bulb, bounces back off of it - travels left in the air - then shatters cake in bulbs on the platform. - Repeat this with Loon until you get all cakes. 5:7 3-star score: 6000, 2-star score: 4000 - Toss Tork slowly. Navigate him up to get first lower cake slice, up around the gear teeth, and into the bulb in the upper right. - Toss Loon slowly to get the cake slices on right side. - Get the leftmost, highest cake slice LAST. This will make your life easier. 5:8 3-star score: 3400, 2-star score: 2000 - Wait for the balloons to clear out before you toss anyone. - Toss Tork hard & fast to break the glass under the large blue block. - Toss Daze to explode large blue block. - Toss Loon against the far right column of blocks. He will bounce off and get stuck in the wind current, causing him to bash these blocks repeatedly until they are all broken. - Repeat this with Loon until you get all of the cake slices. 5:9 3-star score: 5500, 2-star score: 2500 - There is no one strategy for this level, but in general, use Flip to clear out the balloons & chains, use Tork to smash the bulbs, and save Loon to collect. - If you have a lot of powerups lying around (especially Smash, Slice, and Redo), this is a good time to use them. - GOOD LUCK! ==Legal (q11)== This document is copyright 2012 by Playgearz.
