Introduction #------------------------------------------------------# #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Battlepath: Monsters is a location-based game published by SpaceGum Game Studio for the iPhone and iPad. As far as genre goes, it is considered a strategy game with RTS and RPG elements (according to the company website). The game is free to install and you can get along without paying any money, but you can purchase "Skull Points" to bolster your equipment and inventory. I have been playing this game for a couple weeks now, and during that time I found there is a simplicity to the game which makes it easy to handle. However, there is a fair amount of depth to the gameplay and a difficulty to mastering it. The game is multiplayer, but the only interaction with other players is a competition over territory. But you can, if you wish, play the game without actually using that side of the game; there's not much of an impact on the solo-side bit of gameplay from the multiplayer. This FAQ will yield up the information I've gained while playing the game and while it may be incomplete in some parts (such as the weapon lists) it should offer a good guide to what you will be dealing with in the game. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# #---# 2. Basics #------------------------------------------------------------# #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Let's start at when you begin the game, and it leaves you with the sign-in screen. Either put in your username from an established account (and then a password) or an email address to register an account under. Bear in mind, currently there is no way to change your signed-in account once you do so on your iPad or iPhone. You can contact the company through the forums to reset a character if you really want to, but otherwise you should take care. The character avatar you are given is randomly assigned but you can change it for 70 Skull Points. Once you have your character started, you will be prompted for a few technical things; these can be changed later. Using your location data will allow the game to place you on the world map with accuracy, and this is how you interact with things. The world map is, in effect, driven by Google Maps to overlay the game objects on a street map of the world. Monsters, stores, and other attractions are placed semi-randomly around in roughly a two mile radius. "Semi-randomly" in this case means that the stores are placed by translation of real-world businesses (or certain features), and the Magic Trees are always available within the game-area radius as you travel. You have four slots for equipment: "Weapon", "Clothing", "Utility", and finally "Pet". The Weapon you wield will determine what type of attack you will use against the targets, which can make a big difference in effectiveness. Clothing will lend you some defensive bonuses which also correspond to the four combat types, and Utility items also boost your attack and defense. Pets can only be purchased with Skull Points and also give a boost to both attack and defense. Your character can carry only a limited number of items; at the start this amount is four items which are not equipped. (One of those slots will be occupied with the Magic starting weapon, as well.) More slots can be bought with 75 Skull Points, and I recommend saving up for such an occasion; after you get to a point, having eight slots is incredibly useful. The items you can carry include both equipment and consumable items, so be aware of this. Also, if you win a battle and have no more space for all the items gained, then they will be lost. You win gold by killing Monsters or selling off items. It is a good idea to sell anything you don't immediately need or see a use for soon. If you have a Dwarven Bank nearby, you can store items for later use and take a load off your mind. For defeating Monsters your level and mastery of the chosen combat type will rise; these do not rise at the same level! Your character's combat level determines how large your pool of Health is, and how much damage is dealt in combat. If your character's combat level is closer to the Monster's, then you will do better than if the Monster's level is higher. If you choose to run, you will endure one last swing at your character. Should you happen to die you will have a choice of taking a "cheap" revival potion which costs a quarter of your current gold and having 4 Health restored, or an elven revival elixir which fully restores your character for 35 Skull Points. Before you get yourself to work on your game, click on the character avatar in the center of the screen. Here you can access your account, view your current combat levels, and see what Monsters you have killed. First, go to your account and make sure your email address is one you have active. After that, use the "Send Password" to have a password sent to your email account so you can log into the game if you wind up getting a new device. This is a crucial step if you pride yourself on your village upkeep (more on that later), and a mild setback if you focus more on the combat. Along the bottom of the home screen are the buttons of the menu, and all are fairly self-explanatory. At the top-right corner is the "Skull Menu", which is where you can buy or use Skull Points; you gain one Skull Point for each level you gain in any of the four combat types. You can also purchase them for a nominal fee; a good tip is to only purchase Skull Points if you really want something you can't normally afford by just gaining levels or using Gold. A fair amount of the items which can be bought with Skull Points can be dropped by Monsters as rewards (rarely), so only five uses of Skull Points can be exclusive: - The gear which can only be purchased with Skull Points, while not the strongest gear of its kind, can give you a considerably early edge. I should note, however, later bonus weapons will catch up in terms of power. - Refilling all your Health costs 35 Skull Points, and after a point it is very advantageous rather than waiting a considerable time for it to refill naturally. (It regenerates at the rate of 1 point per 30 seconds, so long as it does not change. This means either being hit, or taking a healing item.) - Item slots can only be earned through use of Skull Points or by doing one of the optional "missions" in the Skull Menu. The freebies only add up to four slots, so you can get away with that but I still recommend spending 75 Skull Points on an expansion of 4 slots. - You can change your avatar portrait if you truly do not want the one you were given. This costs 75 Skull Points and it cannot be done any other way. - Ranged and Prayer combat types may only be unlocked through the purchase of each one for 48 Skull Points each. You do not have to do this, but it will be a significant advantage. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# #---# 3. Villages #----------------------------------------------------------# #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# After you have enough money, you can start a village wherever you feel like. Simply choose a place on the map, and it will be set there. There are a number of ideas on where you should put it but there really is no wrong place to put it. However, be advised there are other players of the game, and their village borders can prevent you from growing your settlement. So it would be wise to avoid placing your village anywhere nearby them. Every 24 hours, your village will pay you rent; you must pick it up promptly as the rent timer will not reset until you pick it up. So try to set the time in a cycle you can work with. The rent is determined by how many villagers you have in your village. It costs 2 gold per villager to recruit, and they are recruited in specific amounts. As you reach certain levels of population, the type of village you have will increase. It starts as a humble Camp and will eventually grow into a Kingdom. Once it reaches the size of "Kingdom", the additional population serve largely to expand your territory and bring in more rent. You can attack other villages within a certain radius which may be set in your avatar profile (4, 10, and 14 miles respectively). The higher your character's level versus your opponent's, the more damage you will do in your attack. If your character's combat level is too low, then no damage will be done, and the reward will be barely worth the time and money to start. It is also important to remember: if you can attack them, chances are they can attack you back. There are three options of attacks, from a quick 10-minute blitz to a protracted siege lasting either one or six hours. The longer the combat chosen, the more you stand to gain in reward and the more severe the damage to your victim. But, all they need to do to defend is be online and fend you off at any point within the attack. Once they do, the gold you spent on the attack is gone and they win a portion for themselves. Other than that, there is no actual cost to attacking. There is a significant cost to not defending, however. Instead of losing the gold won by an attack, the defender will lose villagers according to the damage percentage chosen by the attacker. You can only defend so long as you are aware of the attack, which means it can be a real task to keep up the defense even during waking hours. Thankfully, you can use Yellow Crystals to protect your village (or 20 Skull Points to buy protection for a full day); take time and get as many crystals as you can from the Magic Tree. If your village is in an awkward place, or too many competitors pop up in your area, you can always destroy your own village (recouping a fraction of the value spent on building it) and relocate it. You can only have one village at any time, so keep an eye on it and be prepared to defend it well. It's worth noting that while you can receive Push Notifications about your village being under attack, there is a notable delay before the message is sent. This means a 10 Minute Blitz could be halfway underway before you even receive the message, let alone actually get around to checking up on your Notifications. Always remember to check semi-consistently while you are not protected, or spend Yellow Crystals to keep people off your back. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# #---# 4. Stores #------------------------------------------------------------# #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Battlepath: Monsters populates its stores based on the real world landscape of businesses, with four notable exceptions. If you don't find a store you want or need to access nearby, you can use Red Crystals to teleport to certain cities for finding them. However, you will always be able to find Magic Trees, Traveling Merchants, and Temples. The Wandering Merchant sells a fair selection of consumable goods but he does not sell equipment; this means you will need to find a suitable place to travel to for bolstering your gear. Here is a list of the stores or landmarks you can find while playing. - Yellow Magic Tree: Yellow Magic Trees grant you Yellow Crystals; these are indispensable for keeping your village safe. One crystal can be earned per tree each hour; if you travel you can hit other trees in range. - Red Magic Tree: Red Magic Trees yield Red Crystals which facilitate teleporting between areas. Each crystal takes 20 minutes to regenerate, and you can also travel to get more if you find more trees. - Traveling Merchants: Traveling Merchants will sell most of the goods other shops do, but do not sell equipment. You will almost always find at least one Traveling Merchant within your radius of travel. - Temple: Temples can be found at various places, and can only be entered with a Relic. Here you can purchase the Prayer-based equipment you might want or need, along with various items to bolster your arsenal. You can only buy Prayer-type weaponry when you spend Skull Points to unlock it; you can still purchase the clothing or utility for defensive purposes. - Tavern: Coffee shops and similar areas become Taverns, where you can access the forums for the game. This is currently the only way to actively participate in the forums, though they can be read at the game homepage. There are currently no other uses for Taverns yet. - Dwarven Bank: Dwarven Banks coincide with, naturally enough, real-life bank locations. (Note: ATMs do not count.) Here you can store up to 50 items in the vault, free of charge, or sell off items you don't need. Please be aware you only have 50 slots to store items in the vault, and that the prices you will be given for each item you sell is lower than if you took it to the proper store. - Skelebows: Where you can find cemeteries, Skelebows are available for all your Ranged weaponry needs. This is the only place to buy equipment or ammunition for Ranged attacks, and you can purchase a Relic for entering a Temple. Be aware you need to use Skull Points to unlock the Ranged weapons for sale. - Weaponsmith: Hardware stores become Weaponsmiths, and Melee-based equipment is available for purchase here. It's worth noting the type of store doesn't necessarily have to match exactly (WalMart will show up as a Weaponsmith, for instance). - Wizard Shop: Pharmacies and similar buildings will become Wizard Shops inside the game, and here is your general stop for enchanted items and Magic-based equipment. Notably, escape-assisting items can be bought here, as well as most power-boosting objects. - Orc Burger: Fast food places in the real world become Orc Burgers, where you can trade in food items. Most of the food costs Skull Points, but you can get a long way on some Fried Wings (at 270 gold each) until you reach higher levels. - Grand Temple: These structures are greater Temples which seem to coincide with real-world churches. An easy way to reach one is to take a Teleport to "New York, USA" and search the listing. You need a Temple Scroll to enter, and they offer the highest version of the Prayer utility objects. - Dragon Pets: Pet stores and zoos become Dragon Pets stores, and here you can buy Pets with Skull Coins to bolster your statistics. The gain is not very considerable, but pets get their own slot rather than taking up the Utility item slot. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# #---# 5. Equipment #---------------------------------------------------------# #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# All your character's equipment has meaning, and it is important you keep up with it. The good news is that your weapons don't become purchased to get better, but will slowly build up for a new weapon as you wield one weapon in combat. The rate which you earn weapons is different than that you earn levels at; you will often go two levels before earning your weapon once you get high enough. Clothing, Utility, and other items must be purchased to keep moving up in effectiveness. It's worth remembering that your Clothing and your level are what help determine your defensive capabilities in combat, so it is a good idea to keep getting better Clothing as you can afford it. Note: This section is incomplete, in regards to weapon listings. I have not yet earned my way up the levels high enough to have learned what each weapon is and how strong it is. However I am doing my best to keep track of the weapon names and how long they are along the levels. The "S" weapons are purchased through Skull Points at their respective vendors, and can be a good power boost early on until you earn your way to more powerful weapons. They are by no means the most powerful weapons in their categories. #---------# Melee Equipment #------------------------------------------------# Melee is one of the two basic combat types, and contains rather powerful defensive equipment. In fact, to climb to the top rank of Clothing and Utility both yields two items with a strength of 1029. This is expensive, but it yields powerful results. Melee equipment is represented by axes, swords, and flails for weapons, shields and armor for clothing. Only three of the top twelve Monsters are Melee types, and only one of those is within the top six. It's worth noting that for a long period of levels in the middle of the range, Melee is less effective a weapon to be using. Once you reach higher levels of Melee, it can regain usefulness for a few specific Monsters. #-# Melee Weapons #-# S Orc Battleaxe Melee Strength 371 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) 1 Rusty Short Sword Melee Strength 100 (Starter Weapon) 2 Bronze Short Sword Melee Strength 106 3 Iron Short Sword Melee Strength 112 4 Hunting Battleaxe Melee Strength 129 5 Rusty Flail Melee Strength 149 6 Rusty Long Sword Melee Strength 172 7 Steel Short Sword Melee Strength 200 8 Bronze Flail Melee Strength 231 9 Bronze Long Sword Melee Strength 267 10 Bronze Battleaxe Melee Strength 286 11 Elfin Short Sword Melee Strength 349 12 Iron Flail Melee Strength 420 13 Iron Long Sword Melee Strength 472 14 Iron Battleaxe Melee Strength 529 15 Mithril Short Sword Melee Strength 620 16 Steel Flail Melee Strength 686 17 Steel Long Sword Melee Strength 829 18 Steel Battleaxe Melee Strength 946 19 Gold Short Sword Melee Strength 1071 20 Diamond Flail Melee Strength 1160 21 Mithril Long Sword Melee Strength #### #-# Melee Clothing #-# Leather Armor Melee Strength 112 (Cost: 198 Gold) Bronze Armor Melee Strength 186 (Cost: 620 Gold) Iron Armor Melee Strength 267 (Cost: 2305 Gold) Steel Armor Melee Strength 371 (Cost: 4122 Gold) Mithril Armor Melee Strength 500 (Cost: 6500 Gold) Dragon Armor Melee Strength 652 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) Ancient Armor Melee Strength 1029 (Cost: 100000 Gold, OR 600 Skull Points) #-# Melee Utility #-# Wooden Shield Melee Strength 129 (Cost: 144 Gold) Bronze Shield Melee Strength 267 (Cost: 550 Gold) Iron Shield Melee Strength 306 (Cost: 698 Gold) Steel Shield Melee Strength 327 (Cost: 1280 Gold) Orc Shield Melee Strength 371 (Cost: 1975 Gold) Dwarven Shield Melee Strength 446 (Cost: 3200 Gold) Goblin Shield Melee Strength 500 (Cost: 125 Skull Points) Dragon Shield Melee Strength 652 (Cost: 7510 Gold) Magic Shield Melee Strength 829 (Cost: 10550 Gold) Deep Earth Shield Melee Strength 946 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) Ancient Shield Melee Strength 1029 (Cost: 12000 Gold, or 600 Skull Points) #---------# Magic Equipment #------------------------------------------------# Magic is the other basic combat type and this type is fairly common throughout the levels of Monsters. The second toughest of the Monsters is a Magic type, at level 50; having worked up Magic helps considerably. Weapons based off Magic are represented largely by wands or staves, while Clothing and Utility are capes and hats respectively. It is a good idea to keep working both Melee and Magic early on to bolster your ability to fight. As a combat type, Magic is considerably at a disadvantage to defend against and can be a pain to build up. A lot of Monsters aren't too easy to beat with Magic, but there are some surprising results higher up the level climb. As an added bonus, each level you build means the tougher Magic-using Monsters will not beat you up as badly. #-# Magic Weapons #-# S Magic Short Sword Magic Strength 371 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) 1 Wooden Wand Magic Strength 100 (Starter Weapon) 2 Apprentice Wand Magic Strength 106 3 Wooden Staff Magic Strength 120 4 Earth Wand Magic Strength 129 5 Air Wand Magic Strength 149 6 Black Staff Magic Strength 186 7 Water Wand Magic Strength 231 8 Red Staff Magic Strength 306 9 Fire Wand Magic Strength 420 10 Toad Wand Magic Strength 558 11 Warlock Wand Magic Strength 720 12 Elfin Staff Magic Strength 906 13 Warlock Staff Magic Strength 1029 14 Ancient Wand Magic Strength #### #-# Magic Clothing #-# Blue Wizard Cape Magic Strength 129 (Cost: 320 Gold) Red Wizard Cape Magic Strength 160 (Cost: 855 Gold) Black Wizard Cape Magic Strength 186 (Cost: 2800 Gold) White Wizard Cape Magic Strength 371 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) Ancient Cape Magic Strength 652 (Cost: 6500 Gold, or 600 Skull Points #-# Magic Utility #-# Blue Wizard Hat Magic Strength 186 (Cost: 250 Gold) Red Wizard Hat Magic Strength 231 (Cost: 700 Gold) Black Wizard Hat Magic Strength 267 (Cost: 2550 Gold) White Wizard Hat Magic Strength 500 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) Ancient Wizard Hat Magic Strength 829 (Cost: 8900 Gold, or 600 Skull Points) #---------# Ranged Equipment #-----------------------------------------------# Ranged is a combat type which must be unlocked for 48 Skull Points, but it can be tricky to use. It requires ammunition either dropped by Monsters or purchased from Skelebows, and there are only a few pieces of equipment other than the weapons. Ranged weaponry is composed by bows and crossbows (naturally). Pick up a Quiver of your choice and armor if you want to fight higher-level Ranged-type Monsters; this can be very important later on. Ranged Monsters can very easily dangerous until you start gaining levels in it. This could be a reason alone to work on Ranged, except it can be a very powerful attack type in the later game if you can get a steady supply of Elven Arrows. (Stone Giants drop them infrequently, and with a good stash of Poison Darts you can make them last longer.) #-# Ranged Weapons #-# 1 Hunting Crossbow Ranged Strength 100 (Starter Weapon) 2 Pocket Crossbow Ranged Strength 106 3 Peasant Short Bow Ranged Strength 120 4 Peasant Long Bow Ranged Strength 129 5 Hunting Short Bow Ranged Strength 149 6 Merchant Crossbow Ranged Strength 186 7 Hunting Long Bow Ranged Strength 231 8 Steel Crossbow Ranged Strength 306 9 Goblin Short Bow Ranged Strength 395 10 Goblin Long Bow Ranged Strength 500 11 Dwarven Crossbow Ranged Strength 652 12 Elfin Short Bow Ranged Strength 755 13 Elfin Long Bow Ranged Strength 829 14 Elfin Chief Short Bow Ranged Strength 1029 15 Elfin Chief Long Bow Ranged Strength #### #-# Ranged Clothing #-# Cloth Armor Ranged Strength 129 (Cost: 144 Gold) Hard Leather Armor Ranged Strength 371 (Cost: 4500 Gold) Dragon Armor Ranged Strength 652 (Cost: 7500 Gold) #-# Ranged Utility (Including Ammunition) #-# Quiver Ranged Strength 129 (Cost: 243 Gold) Elven Quiver Ranged Strength 371 (Cost: 4500 Gold) Dragon Quiver Ranged Strength 652 (Cost: 7500 Gold) Wooden Arrows Ranged Strength 100 (Cost: 65 Gold) Iron Arrows Ranged Strength 186 (Cost: 130 Gold) Elven Arrows Ranged Strength 371 (Cost: 15 Skull Points) #---------# Prayer Equipment #-----------------------------------------------# Prayer is the final combat type, and it also must be unlocked for 48 Skull Points. All the gear is available only at Temples (which you need a Relic to access). Because of this, it can be hard to get the defensive gear; however, the weapons will start coming as soon as you start leveling it. Prayer can be surprisingly effective to fight with, and two of the top three Monsters use it as their combat type. Prayer-based Weapons are represented by maces and war hammers, while the Clothing is cleric robes and odd objects are Utility items. Prayer has been determined to be an exceedingly useful combat type, and it seems very few Monsters not of Prayer combat type are strong against it. As a tradeoff, all Prayer Armor and Utility objects are available at Temples . . . except the strongest Prayer Utility object, which can only be purchased at a Grand Temple. #-# Prayer Weapons #-# S Healing Mace Prayer Strength 371 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) 1 Wooden Mace Prayer Strength 100 (Starter Weapon) 2 Bronze Mace Prayer Strength 106 3 Bronze War Hammer Prayer Strength 112 4 Iron Mace Prayer Strength 129 5 Iron War Hammer Prayer Strength 149 6 Steel Mace Prayer Strength 186 7 Steel War Hammer Prayer Strength 231 8 Sapphire Mace Prayer Strength 306 9 Merchant War Hammer Prayer Strength 420 10 Ruby Mace Prayer Strength 558 11 Dwarven War Hammer Prayer Strength 620 12 Silver Mace Prayer Strength 755 13 Golden Mace Prayer Strength 867 14 Diamond Mace Prayer Strength 1115 15 Ancient Mace Prayer Strength 1398 16 Deep Earth War Hammer Prayer Strength 1500 #-# Prayer Clothing #-# Blue Cleric Robe Prayer Strength 129 (Cost: 195 Gold) Red Cleric Robe Prayer Strength 160 (Cost: 210 Gold) Black Cleric Robe Prayer Strength 186 (Cost: 1345 Gold) White Cleric Robe Prayer Strength 375 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) Ancient Cleric Robe Prayer Strength 829 (Cost: 6900 Gold, or 600 Skull Points) #-# Prayer Utility #-# Cleric Pack Prayer Strength 186 (Cost: 250 Gold) Heaven's Lamp Prayer Strength 267 (Cost: 2550 Gold) Volcanic Rock Prayer Strength 500 (Cost: 280 Skull Points) Ice Skull Prayer Strength 829 (Cost: 12000 Gold or 580 Skull Points) #---------# Consumable Objects #---------------------------------------------# These items can be either found from killing Monsters or buying them from the various shops, and as the name suggests they can only be used once. Keep them until you need them, or routinely use them to bolster your quest. - Attack-Boosting items will naturally make certain types of attack stronger, or cause a boost to affect any weapon type. - Evasion items are useful to either get away from combat or to avoid damage. - Healing items are mostly food, and will replenish health mid-battle or between fights; this can be very useful for refilling a lot of health rather than waiting for it to naturally regenerate. - The "Other Items" contains three items which don't quite fit into the other groups, allowing you to enter Temples or to gain crystals easier. #-# Attack-Boosting Objects #-# Wooden Dagger Double Melee Attack (Cost: 154 Gold) (Buy at the Blacksmith or Traveling Merchant) Undead Potion Triple Melee Attack (Cost: 15 Skull Points) (Buy at the Wizard Shop or Traveling Merchant) Magic Net Double Magic Attack (Cost: 150 Gold) (Buy at the Wizard Shop or Traveling Merchant) Paralysis Skull Triple Magic Attack (Cost: 15 Skull Points( (Buy at the Wizard Shop or Traveling Merchant) Spirit Stick Double Prayer Attack (Cost: 120 Gold) (Buy at Temple or Traveling Merchant) Reflective Mask Triple Prayer Attack (Cost: 15 Skull Points) (Buy at Temple or Traveling Merchant) Poison Dart Double Ranged Attack (Cost: 120 Gold) (Buy at Skelebows or Traveling Merchant) Ancient Compass Triple Ranged Attack: Cost: 15 Skull Points) (Buy at Skelebows or Traveling Merchant) Troll Whistle Double Attack (Cost: 165 Gold) (Buy at Skelebows or Traveling Merchant) Dragon Ghost Triple Attack (Cost: 17 Skull Points) (Buy at the Wizard Shop or Traveling Merchant) #-# Evasion Items #-# Enchanted Harp Monster Misses Turn (Cost: 15 Skull Points) (Buy at the Temple or Traveling Merchant) Escape Shoes Escape a Monster < L 10 (Cost: 82 Gold) (Buy at the Wizard Shop) Invisible Cloak Escape a Monster < L 30 (Cost: 140 Gold) (Buy at the Wizard Shop) Flying Carpet Safe Run All Monsters (Cost: 320 Gold) (Buy at the Wizard Shop) #-# Healing Items #-# Healing Torch Recover 3 Health (Cost: 90 Gold) (Buy at the Temple) Blue Mushroom Refill 1 Health (Cost: 40 Gold) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Steak Refill 3 Health (Cost: 4 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Wild Burger Refill 4 Health (Cost: 158 Gold) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Fish Burger Refill 5 Health (Cost: 9 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Fried Wings Refill 7 Health (Cost: 270 Gold) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Desert Curry Refill 10 Health (Cost: 15 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Toad Fries Refill 15 Health (Cost: 20 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Troll Pasta Refill 22 Health (Cost: 25 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Evil Jelly Refill 29 Health (Cost: 28 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Demon Cola Refill 40 Health (Cost: 32 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Dragon Burger Refill 53 Health (Cost: 34 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger or Traveling Merchant) Dragon Steak Refill 80 Health (Cost: 44 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger) Bat Spaghetti Refill 120 Health (Cost: 55 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger) Orc Hot Sauce Refill 200 Health (Cost: 75 Skull Points) (Buy at Orc Burger) #-# Other Items #-# Relic 1 Temple Visit (Cost: 62 Gold) (Buy at Skelebows) Temple Scroll 1 Grand Temple Visit (Cost: 120 Gold) (Buy at the Temple) Sextant +1 Red Crystal (Cost: 55 Gold) (Buy at the Temple) #---------# Pets #-----------------------------------------------------------# Pets are a very optional part of the game, and can be considerably expensive in Skull Points. Monsters #----------------------------------------------------------# #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# These are the enemies you can find all over the areas your character will travel through. Again, within two miles of your current location (or wherever you teleport to) there will be Monsters. The Monsters change every so often, but killing some will allow a certain range to re-populate. Each Monster has a particular combat type (Melee, Magic, Ranged, Prayer) and a level associated with it. The combat type is measured against your skill in that type of combat, so it pays to train more than one type of combat for the help defensively. Furthermore, some Monsters are susceptible to a certain type of combat type; since this isn't listed anywhere and it can be highly subjective with the broad randomness of damage . . . I impress on people to take notes on what works best. (For instance, I have had good luck using Prayer attacks on undead Monsters, even though they are Prayer-types.) Beyond statistics for combat, each Monster also has a "rare drop" item, which they can leave behind after combat some of the time. This includes items which normally are only purchased with Skull Points. From the lowly Steak to the Orc Hot Sauce, or even Dragon Ghosts, you can get a lot of those items from Monsters. Granted, the more useful items are available only from the truly dangerous and tough beings. In your Statistics page, you can collect a list of Monsters you have slain. There are 150 entries, and some of these can be quite elusive when you go to collect them. They don't seem to favor one type of area over another (aquatic Monsters only near water, for instance), at least in my experience. The key is persistence, patience, and traveling around to try different places. Note: I had to abbreviate "Invisibility Cloak" as "Invis. Cloak" in the table below, to make sure it could fit. I do apologize if this is any sort of inconvenience for anyone. #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Spider # Bat # Cobra Level: 1 # Level: 1 # Level: 1 Combat Type: Magic # Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Melee Health: 10 # Health: 11 # Health: 11 Drop: Blue Mushroom # Drop: Wooden Dagger # Drop: Relic #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Wild Boar # Angry Beggar # Giant Leech Level: 1 # Level: 1 # Level: 1 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Prayer Health: 11 # Health: 13 # Health: 13 Drop: Escape Shoes # Drop: Spirit Stick # Drop: Steak #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Owl # 2-Headed Snake # Giant Piranha Level: 1 # Level: 2 # Level: 2 Combat Type: Ranged # Combat Type: Magic # Combat Type: Melee Health: 10 # Health: 14 # Health: 14 Drop: Poison Dart # Drop: Magic Net # Drop: Wooden Arrows #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Large Bat # Ghoul # Dark Eagle Level: 2 # Level: 2 # Level: 2 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Prayer # Combat Type: Ranged Health: 15 # Health: 13 # Health: 13 Drop: Blue Mushroom # Drop: Poison Dart # Drop: Relic #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Large Rat # Large Centipede # Large Scorpion Level: 3 # Level: 3 # Level: 3 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Melee Health: 18 # Health: 19 # Health: 21 Drop: Spirit Stick # Drop: Steak # Drop: Magic Net #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Wolf # Megagator # Boa Snake Level: 4 # Level: 4 # Level: 4 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Melee Health: 21 # Health: 21 # Health: 23 Drop: Magic Net # Drop: Enchanted Harp # Drop: Wooden Arrows #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Plagued Villager # Large Spider # Brown Bear Level: 4 # Level: 5 # Level: 5 Combat Type: Prayer # Combat Type: Magic # Combat Type: Melee Health: 22 # Health: 26 # Health: 26 Drop: Steak # Drop: Blue Mushroom # Drop: Poison Dart #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Black Bear # Grey Hawk # Small Goblin Level: 5 # Level: 5 # Level: 6 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Ranged # Combat Type: Melee Health: 15 # Health: 27 # Health: 31 Drop: Relic # Drop: Escape Shoes # Drop: Spirit Stick #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Ghost # Blizarg Wanderer # Arctic Eel Level: 6 # Level: 6 # Level: 7 Combat Type: Prayer # Combat Type: Ranged # Combat Type: Magic Health: 31 # Health: 31 # Health: 36 Drop: Steak # Drop: Wooden Dagger # Drop: Enchanted Harp #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Werewolf # White Bear # Goblin Level: 7 # Level: 8 # Level: 8 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Magic # Combat Type: Melee Health: 34 # Health: 39 # Health: 38 Drop: Wooden Dagger # Drop: Magic Net # Drop: Enchanted Harp #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Halfling Thief # Toad Trainee # Orc Wanderer Level: 8 # Level: 8 # Level: 9 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Ranged # Combat Type: Melee Health: 40 # Health: 38 # Health: 42 Drop: Steak # Drop: Wild Burger # Drop: Poison Dart #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Thief # Skeleton # Orc Trainee Level: 9 # Level: 9 # Level: 10 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Prayer # Combat Type: Melee Health: 44 # Health: 42 # Health: 46 Drop: Fish Burger # Drop: Wild Burger # Drop: Spirit Stick #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Crossbow Trap # Tax Collector # White Bat Level: 10 # Level: 10 # Level: 11 Combat Type: Ranged # Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Magic Health: 46 # Health: 46 # Health: 50 Drop: Steak # Drop: Wild Burger # Drop: Magic Net #----------------------------------------------------------------------------# Pack Megagators # Large Wild Boar # Wraith Level: 11 # Level: 11 # Level: 11 Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Melee # Combat Type: Prayer Health: 50 # Health: 51 # Health: 50 Drop: Troll Whistle # Drop: Wild Burger # Drop: Invis. #---# 7. Tasks #-------------------------------------------------------------#
#----------------------------------------------------------------------------#
In version 1.4, "Tasks" were added to the game. These are another form of
achievements familiar to most gamers, while lacking the name. Most of these
will be fairly simple to do and are self-explanatory. I shall clarify on a
few which are not entirely clear.
* First Blood: Slay a Monster. This one is simple, and you should get it
quickly.
* Munchies: Eat a Burger. Any of the burgers will do, just wait for one to
drop from a kill.
* Double Trouble: Use a Wooden Dagger. If you need to, buy one from the
stores and use it. You will likely get this anyway as a matter of leveling
Melee.
* Lucky Shot: Kill a Bird with an Arrow. I had to have a Critical Hit for
this to actually register. Your mileage may vary.
* Settler Star: Build a Village. This one is simple, but try to pick a spot
which you will want to keep that village active and growing.
* Warmonger: Attack Village 5 times. Another simple one, and if you are
actively doing player-versus-player work then you will not have problems.
* Hunter: Slay some Critters. I do not know how precisely to get this one,
as I had a complete Bestiary by the time the Tasks were added.
* Lucky 7: Reach Level 7 Melee. You'll get this through normal play.
* Night Guard: Protect Village 10 Times. Just keep getting Yellow Crystals
and using them to protect you overnight.
* Smack Down: Defend 5 Village Attacks. It is highly likely you will get
this soon on putting down your village if you have anyone else near you.
* 4 of a Kind: Level 4 All Combat Types. Again, this is likely to be
unlocked as you play, considering you branch out at all.
* The Vault: Hold 20 Items at Bank. You'll rack this up pretty fast once you
start saving items up for later use.
* Pied Piper: Send the Plague Away. This is less transparent but it should
register once you kill the "Rat Plague" Monster.
* Castle Star: Own a Castle. Keep upgrading your village, and this one will
eventually come to you.
* Dragon Slayer: Kill 4 Types of Dragons. There are exactly four types in the
game currently: Black, Blue, Red, White. Over time, you'll get them all.
* Game Lord: Kill All Monster Types. Fill out your Bestiary and this will
come either when you get 150/150 or when you kill one Monster of each
"Type". I am decidedly unclear on which.
* Tourist: Teleport 100 Times. Teleporting in search of rare Monsters will
probably get you this one, but if not then you can see what to do.
* Loyal Cleric: Visit Something Grand. Get yourself a Temple Scroll and find
one of the Grand Temples. "New York, USA" has one within the teleport area.
* Nice Farm: Harvest some Crystals. This is simple enough, look around for
the Magic Trees and snatch up Crystals when they are available.
* No Taxes: No collector no Taxes. Kill off a Tax Collector enemy, and this
should register as done.
* Honor Roll: Buy Any Skull Points. If at any point you put money into buying
Skull Points, this will register as complete.
* King of Orcs: Kill all kinds of Orc. Kill all the Monsters with "Orc" in
the name, and this will be cleared right away.
* Blood n Gore: Slay an Evil Creature. I am not sure what constitutes an
"Evil Creature", but I expect it is represented by a specific token on the
map.
* Bones of Steel: Score higher 250,000. Once you get rolling, this should
register. All you need is to kill 250,000 levels of Monsters. While this
sounds like a lot, you'll get there long before you reach Level 50 on
two combat types.
* Top of World: Slay Something High. To complete this Task, you have to go
to Mount Everest and kill some Monsters there.
* Last Stand: With 1HP Win a Fight. Self-explanatory, but difficult to
achieve due to the randomness of combat. Miss, and this one is lost to you.
* Bad Deal: Sell 5 Items to Bank. Pick something which you don't make much
profit on anyway, like Blue Mushrooms, and sell them off at the Bank.
* Iron Ranger: Shoot an Iron Arrow. This should come easy to anyone who gets
the Ranged combat type for themselves.
* New Empire: Achieve 10k Villagers. Keep expanding your Village until it
becomes a Kingdom and this should be complete.
* Magic Ride: Use a Flying Carpet. Once you reach higher levels and fight
much tougher Monsters, a Flying Carpet is a good emergency measure to have
on hand. This task encourages it.
* Hell's Enemy: Kill Enemy Number 1. I assume this is for killing Lucifer at
least once. I could be mistaken.
* Tycoon: Own over 10k Gold Coins. All I can suggest is to be very careful
not to die, and fight things you likely will not be in danger from.
* Zookeeper: Own 2 Pets. This could take a while to earn even the lower-power
Pets.
* Town Destroyer: Win 6 Hour Attack. This is really hard to do, since you
have a six-hour window in which the person you are attacking will defend.
If you have a friend, maybe you can entice them to help with this.
* Phoenix: Consume Elven Potion. By paying 35 Skull Points for an Elven
Potion, this should unlock.
* Mass Recruiter: Recruit 1000 at Once. This is much easier done when your
Village is not very large at all.
* Face Lift: Change Avatar. For 75 Skull Points, you can change your Avatar,
and doing so will complete this task.
* Wizard Style: Hold Fashionable Items. I honestly am not sure on what this
task calls for yet.
* Fries with That?: Buy Toad Fries. 20 Skull Points for Toad Fries at an
Orc Burger near you; getting these dropped is not enough.

#---# 8. Advice #------------------------------------------------------------#
#----------------------------------------------------------------------------#
Here I am going to leave bits of advice for players who are looking for a
little bit more here. However, it's worth noting that you can do things
however you like . . . there is very little in this game which can completely
ruin you. Unless, of course, you forgot what email you used to start up an
account. Then only SpaceGum's customer support can help you.
+ Pick an approach to working on your combat levels which is comfortable to
you. While raising your levels somewhat evenly will help you keep ready to
take on a variety of Monsters, this can be very draining on your supplies and
gold.
+ Pay attention to your neighbors when you set up your village. If you know
their methods, you can avoid wasting Yellow Crystals on protection for your
village. Furthermore, if you plan on taking the offensive it becomes good
to know when you can sneak in attacks.
+ If you need to find certain Monsters, or your area is getting stocked with
Monsters whose combat type you can't handle, teleport to somewhere else and
keep fighting if you have the time. You can always teleport back to your
current real location for free, or to your village if you wish to check out
who's around.
+ If you die, you will either have to lose a quarter of your gold to revive
with 4 Health, or spend 35 Skull Points for a full revival. It's almost
always worthwhile to lose the gold, but if you are saving up for a big piece
of equipment it is best to be very conservative.
+ Enchanted Harps grant you a round where the Monster will automatically
miss. This can be very helpful against Monsters which hit you for high
damage amounts but can't withstand many hits from you. Please note, while
you will automatically be missed, you have no guarantee of actually hitting
the Monster!
+ Escape items will always let you leave a battle without taking a hit,
which makes them very useful to have around. As you don't need Skull Points
to purchase one, try to keep them handy if you aren't certain about your
chances of winning.
+ After to the 1.4 update, there are other ways of earning Skull Points.
These are in line with other free games, presenting a list of offers which
include free registrations or program installs. Furthermore there is now a
daily gain if you belong to a Clan.
+ If you care about your village, then get into a habit of protecting it as
often as you can afford to. It is worth noting, leaving yourself unprotected
while you can monitor your village status is useful - people may attack you
anyway, and you will supplement your gold income by defending.
+ In the 1.4 update, you can spend 4 Red Crystals to teleport anywhere by
using Google Maps to locate a spot. This means it becomes much easier to
find an out-of-the-way spot to place your village. It also means you are
able to attack anyone, anywhere, so long as you know where to look for them.
On the other hand, that means anyone who finds you can do the same; simply
sticking your village in . . . say, the middle of Antarctica, isn't a
guarantee nobody will find you anymore.

#---# 9. Closing Remarks #---------------------------------------------------#
#----------------------------------------------------------------------------#
This game is quite an interesting study as there really is no WRONG way to
approach playing it. You can enjoy it however you like, as much or as little
as you like, without paying anything for the privilege of a complete game.
While plunking down some actual cash can help you out, so can just hoarding
your Skull Points from leveling up and bearing with a few troubles (such as
only having a few inventory slots for equipment).
If you like this FAQ/Guide, or if you have things to add (such as equipment
I have not yet earned) then feel free to drop a note on the forums here or
drop me a message.
Also, two people have sent me information: Dan ("proclivity") and Tony
(who gave no other identifier), informed me that for the "Slay Something
High" task, you basically kill things on Mount Everest. Good misdirection,
and I had guessed that from the Task name but the description led me to think
it meant a "High" type Monster. More fool me!
I'm still looking for information on the task "Wizard Style". I have not
discovered how to earn it yet, and have no clues.
