General Information | *----------------------------* *----------------------------* | II.1. About Pretty Cure | *----------------------------* For the maybe 2% of people who want to play this game for a reason *other* than being Pretty Cure fans already, Futari wa Precure, also known as Pretty Cure, is an anime of the "magical girl" genre (for the uninitiated: think Sailor Moon) which ran from the start of February 2004 to the end of January 2005. (The first episode actually aired on my 20th birthday. Not that you care or anything, I just think it's cool.) The series is massively popular in Japan, as is the sequel series, Futari wa Precure Max Heart. The series is about two middle school girls, athletic Misumi Nagisa and bookish Yukishiro Honoka, whose lives collide when they meet a pair of creatures (Mepple and Mipple) from another world. Their home, the Garden of Light, has been taken over by evil beings from the Dark Zone, who are searching for seven powerful gems known as the Chaos Emer--wait, wrong series. They're searching for the Prism Stones, of which they have five already, and if they get all seven they'll be able to destroy all of existance. To protect the universe and get the Prism Stones back, Mepple and Mipple give Nagisa and Honoka the power to transform into the legendary warriors known as Pretty Cure. *----------------------------* | II.2. About This Game | *----------------------------* Futari wa Precure: Arienai! Yume no Kuni ha Daimeikyuu is, of course, a Game Boy Advance game based on Pretty Cure. Although it superficially looks like an action-based platformer, it's really more of a puzzle game. With the exception of the boss stages, the objective of every level is to collect seven hearts (probably representing the Prism Stones) which are scattered about the stage, and then get both Nagisa and Honoka to the goal. You must do this within a time limit, which tends to be three or four minutes. The girls do not have health meters, but getting one or both of them hurt will incur a ten second penalty. Each stage has enemies, which will hurt the girls on contact and can be destroyed with an attack; they'll reappear after a while, as will many other things you can get rid of. Each stage also contains one or two cards, which you don't have to get, but it keeps track of which ones you've found. I guess they're probably like the data discs in Mega Man & Bass. II.2.a. Story Unfortunately I really don't know what the story is in this game, as I cannot read Japanese. Since the girls use the Rainbow Storm attack sometimes, it has to be taking place sometime after episode 30, but that's about the extent of what I can figure out. My best guess is that it's some generic early-video-game type plot about "Creatures from the Dark Zone have taken over five parts of the Garden of Light! Beat them!" Any assistance in this area would be appreciated. II.2.b. Controls Direction pad: Move left and right. This works exactly as it would in any platform game, meaning if you try to walk through a wall you'll only make yourself look dumb. Also, if you press down while standing on a thin platform, you'll drop through. A: Jump. The girls can jump up to about their own full height, and can jump a horizontal distance of just under half the width of the screen. You can jump upward through thin platforms and moving platforms. You also use this to enter a level. B: Attack. Nagisa kicks and Honoka punches; these are functionally identical. You can only attack from the ground, which is a little weird but that's just how it is. L/R: Switch. If you were controlling Nagisa, you'll now be controlling Honoka, and vice versa. This doesn't do anything in boss fights. Start: Pause. This gives you the option to restart or exit the level, and it also lets you swap the functions of the A and B buttons in case you're one of the maybe ten people on the planet who prefer B to jump and A to attack (maybe your first 2D platforming experience was Mega Man Anniversary Collection?). Select: View level. This stops the timer while you look around at all the different parts of the level (move the screen around with the direction pad). Get used to this one, you'll be using it a lot. *----------------------------* | III. Walkthrough (First) | *----------------------------* *----------------------------* | III.1. World 1 (Dessert) | *----------------------------* This is the introductory world, and as such it's really easy. The levels tend to be pretty small. (And yes, I do mean dessert rather than desert.) Stand on a yellow switch and platforms will appear out of nowhere; step off, and they'll disappear, so you generally want to find something to hold the switch down while you use the platforms (usually this will be your partner). You have to fall onto a switch to trigger it--if you just walk up to it you'll just stand in front of it. Blue switches make existing platforms move around. Step off, and it'll return to the darkness... uh, to the *place* from which it came. Sometimes you can use these to move both girls around at once. You'll also encounter springs, which of course make you bounce up and down--hold A to bounce higher on them. You'll have to platform your way over water a few times--if you fall in, you'll automatically backtrack to a nearby "safe" area. Silver switches open doors. Be sure not to release these while your partner is still standing under the door, or she'll get crushed by the closing door. Blue floors with rocks hanging from them will drop the rocks if you run over them. You can stand on top of enemies that have a little triangle above them pointing downward. In this level these look like cupcakes. Stage 1: Put Nagisa on the switch and have Honoka go up the platforms that appear, grabbing the heart in the air above her. Run across the platform and get the two hearts and the card, and go ahead and drop off the far right side onto the goal. Now switch back to Nagisa. Get the heart, jump over the small block, kill the evil donut, get the three hearts here, and go right to the goal. Stage 2: Have Nagisa get the heart, drop through the green platforms, get the two hearts down here, run across, jump up the platforms to get another heart, and jump on the little platform with another heart on it. Switch to Honoka, go to where Nagisa is, and stand on the switch. Switch to Nagisa and go onto the little ledge that the platform is moving towards, getting the heart and card there. Now jump left, wait for the little white blob enemy (what's he supposed to be?) to be off to the right, and kill him and get the last heart. (Actually you can get through this part without beating the enemy, but it doesn't really save you any time.) Walk to the goal, then switch to Honoka and basically just walk right. Stage 3: Bounce high on the first spring and hold Right, so you arc over the wall, get both hearts, and land just beyond the second spring (which you can just ignore). Bounce high on the third spring, get the two hearts in the little room up here, then drop down through the right-hand platform and the one under it, but stop there for now. Make sure the donut isn't right under you, then drop through the last of the little green platforms and kill it. Get the heart and stay on the little platform it was on. Now bring Honoka to the same place using the same method and have her stand on the switch. Switch back to Nagisa, ride up, and get the last two hearts, then drop through one of the green platforms and go to the goal. Switch to Honoka again and follow Nagisa. Stage 4: Run off the ledge (ignore the moving platform for the moment), get the card, and use the green platforms at the left to get back up. *Now* make your way across the moving platforms to the far right of the stage, getting two hearts as you go. Drop through the LEFT side of the green platform so you get the heart as you fall. Jump across the platforms that are moving up and down and get the two hearts above them, being careful not to fall into the water. Go past the goal and stand on the silver switch. Now bring Honoka over to the same area, go past the switch, get the heart, return to the goal, and follow her with Nagisa. Stage 5: Have Nagisa immediately run all the way across the floor to the goal, dropping all three rocks and getting three hearts along the way, then switch to Honoka and stick with her for the rest of the level. Jump across the rocks to get three hearts. Drop down through the green platform and run left, killing the donut and getting the card, then go back right. Hop up the green platforms, drop the final rock, and jump up the new platforms that appear to get to the goal. Stage 6: (2 cards) Ignore the switch at first and just have Nagisa run right and get the card. Then put Nagisa on the switch and have Honoka jump up the platforms, getting the heart along the way. Grab the heart on the left ledge, then jump on the yellow switch to make more platforms appear. Have Nagisa climb the new platforms, getting another heart in the process, bypass the blue switch, beat up the donut (there's a card inside it), get the heart, and go back and jump on the blue switch to bring a moving platform over. Put Honoka on the platform, then switch back to Nagisa AGAIN and have her walk onto the platform too. When it gets back over to the other side, jump up the green platforms, and make your way across the moving platforms, jumping up to get the hearts as you pass them. Get the last heart right next to the goal, then switch to Honoka and bring her over. Stage 7: (2 cards) Go up the stairs, wait for the blob to move out of the way, then jump onto its floor and kill it for a card. Get the heart above the second floor and the one on the ledge at the far left (it looks like a slice of cake), then use the two moving platforms to make your way up to the third heart and the little ledge. Go up the green platforms and stand on the first silver switch. Now switch to Honoka, cross the sea again (if you took long enough, the enemy might be back already, so be careful), go up to where Nagisa is, and drop down through the green platform and go past where the door was to the heart. Switch back and forth, Honoka making her way through the doors Nagisa opens, to get the other heart and the second card. Drop Honoka down through either of the green platforms here and bring her back around, then lead her up the next set of green platforms up to the room with the huge moving platform. Jump on it, and jump over the walls to get across (don't forget the heart!). Go up to the ledge with the final heart and the goal, then bring Nagisa up. Stage 8: (2 cards) Go right and open the door. Switch to Honoka and have her go through the door, get the heart, drop down, and run across to the spring. Bounce on it to get back up and open the second door. Switch to Nagisa, go through the door, get the heart, drop down, get the card, go right, drop down by the spring, and go stand on the platform. Switch to Honoka, drop through the green floor, and stand on the blue switch next to Nagisa. Switch to Nagisa, jump up and get the heart. Switch back to Honoka, jump over the stack of blocks holding up the spring, and stand on the other platform. Have Nagisa stand on the second blue switch, use Honoka to get the heart here, and drop Nagisa through the green floor. Run right, kill the donut, get the card, then go left and drop the rocks on your way. Drop down the green floor and use the rocks to get across, grabbing the hearts as you go. Switch to Honoka and follow. If the rocks are still there when you arrive, go ahead and use them; otherwise, use Nagisa to send a platform over for Honoka to ride on. Head right to the goal. Stage 9: (2 cards) Run right and get the heart, then climb the green platforms at the left and get the heart up there. Stand on the blue switch and wait for the platform to arrive, then ride it across, jumping over the wall along the way and getting the heart at the end. Go up the green platforms and stand on the yellow switch (ignore the heart over there, you can't reach it yet). Now bring Honoka over the same way, and make your way across the platforms. Don't attack the cupcake enemy yet--instead, jump on top of him, and use him to get to the heart above you. Once you have the heart, kill the enemy for a card. Climb the green platforms, defeat the blob here for another card, and get the heart. DON'T STEP ON THE BLUE FLOOR WITH THE ROCK YET. Switch to Nagisa and move her off to the right. NOW switch to Honoka and run across the blue floor to the heart and the goal. Switch back to Nagisa, and use the rock to get up to the last heart, then cross the platforms, climb up, and run to the goal. Boss: This is your first boss, so I'll explain now how they work. With bosses, you control Nagisa with Honoka following you and mimicing your actions. (If you're familiar with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or 3, it's kind of like what Tails does in those, except she follows a little more closely.) The bosses are too tough for your normal attacks, so you have to find another way to damage them. In this case, you're fighting a big... cake? Anyway, there are two big spring-like platforms making up part of the ground, and above them on the ceiling are spikes. It doesn't take a genius to work this one out; you want to wait for him to fall onto the spring that's currently sunk down below ground level, then jump on the silver switch next to it to spring him into the air and the spikes. Stand on the green platforms the rest of the time so you don't get hit. You can run under him while he's on the spikes, or you can just wait for him to fall back down and run over him on the platforms, your choice. Damage him three times, and Nagisa and Honoka will finish him off with a Marble Screw or Rainbow Storm (I think it's based on how fast you beat him--better performance nets you a Rainbow Storm). Get the card that appears and jump into the goal. *----------------------------* | III.2. World 2 (Kitchen) | *----------------------------* This world makes things slightly more complicated; in addition to the stuff from before, now you also have to deal with conveyor belts. Holding the direction that the belt is going will make you go really fast; holding the opposite will make you stay still. (The only way to go the wrong direction is to jump. You can jump a little against low ceilings, but if there are spikes above you then you'll just hit them and be moved backward.) Some conveyor belts' directions can be changed by silver switches. Stage 1: Ride across the conveyor belt and get the heart on it, then stand on the switch. Bring Honoka over and have her ride across for the second heart. Move Nagisa off the switch, then bring Honoka up and drop the... jar? on the switch, revealing a heart. Have Nagisa get it, then cross the conveyor belt above by jumping and get the next heart. Use the spring to get up to the switch and stand on it. Have Honoka follow and ride the conveyor, getting the heart. Hop up the platforms and run right, getting the heart and jumping on the green switch. Put Nagisa on the platform that goes down, then leave her there for the moment and send Honoka back to the right, where she'll get the last heart and a card. Have her stand on the silver switch here. Now run Nagisa across, drop down, and go through the door to the goal. Stage 2: Go ahead and have Nagisa jump across the conveyors first, getting both hearts along the way. Jump up to the silver switch and grab it. Drop Honoka all the way down, run right, get the card, then backtrack, cross the conveyors, and go up to where Nagisa is. Ride the conveyor under the spikes and get the heart. Jump on the enemy that looks like a scale and use it to get to the next heart. Now switch to Nagisa and use the green platforms to go up to the two moving platforms. Get the heart in the upper right corner, then get off at the top floor (not the one with the conveyor) and run all the way to the left and step on the yellow switch. Now switch back to Honoka (finally!) and ride the conveyor belt across. Go up one level to the conveyor you skipped with Nagisa, and ride it to get the last heart. Jump up using the platform from the yellow switch, head for the goal, then switch to Nagisa and bring her over. Stage 3: Ride the conveyors and make your way up, getting two hearts as you go. Go up the green platforms and get the heart here, then use the enemy to jump onto the ledge at the right and get a fourth heart. Use the enemy again, this time to get up to the switch, and switch to Honoka. Bring her across the conveyors and up to where the enemy is, and kill it for a card. Now climb the platforms, but don't drop the jar just yet. Jump up to where the yellow switch is and use it to make platforms for Nagisa, then switch to her and get the heart above you. Drop back down, run to the left, and stand next to the jar. Now have Honoka go back down and drop the jar. Go down the green platforms and drop the other jar, get the heart down here, and run left to get the heart there as you drop off the edge down to where the goal is. Now just switch back to Nagisa and move her left, to the goal. Stage 4: Go across the platforms, but be careful--if they go up too far while you're on them, you'll be crushed. Get the heart and kill the... uh... cheese grater? Get the second heart and use the spring to go up. Get the third heart and go right, to where the green switch is, and jump on it. Switch to Honoka and jump on the platform, then switch back to Nagisa and get off the switch, *then* switch to Honoka again and get the heart you reach. Climb the stairs, use the moving platform to get to the heart in the corner, and head left. Get the heart above the conveyors, and the card in the upper left corner. Kill the cheese grater and jump on the switch. Wait for the door to open fully, then dash through before it closes. Run back to the left, drop the jar, drop Honoka down to where it is, and jump onto the floor next to the moving platforms from before. Go ahead and switch to Nagisa and bring her down too while the jar is still there to jump on, then cross back over to the goal. Stage 5: Go across the conveyors, getting the hearts above you, then drop down at the end to get the third heart in the corner. Run back over and cross the conveyors again, and jump up to where the spring and heart #4 are. (Watch out for flying knives here.) Get the heart, then spring up and stand on the first silver switch. Bring Honoka along the same path, and send her through the door you just opened to get the card, then go left, get the heart, and drop the jar. Head back to the right and drop down, then use the jar to cross the spikes. Jump on the scale and use him to get the heart, then head back to the right. Go back up to where you left Nagisa, and jump on the second switch to reverse the conveyor. Switch to Nagisa, ride the conveyor, and then use the enemy to get up to the platform under the last heart. Switch to Honoka and go right to the goal, then switch back to Nagisa and follow. Stage 6: (2 cards) Use the spring to get up, and drop down through the gap with the card in it (try to land on top of the enemy so it doesn't mow you down). Kill the enemy and go up the green platforms to the silver switch and stand on it. Switch to Honoka, bounce on the spring, drop through the gap, and go through the open door to get the heart. Now go up to where Nagisa is and drop the jar, then follow it across the conveyor belt (getting a heart) and drop down onto it to get the next heart. Jump back up and get on the moving platform at the left. Ride it up and jump on the green switch, then drop into the little area that was just uncovered and get the heart. Drop down a level, ride the moving platform up again, and stand on the platform that the switch moved earlier. Switch to Nagisa and jump on the green switch, then go back to Honoka and jump on the switch up here. Switch to Nagisa again and jump on the new platform. Switch to Honoka and jump on the yellow switch. Switch to Nagisa (and make a mental note to go get your worn out L and R buttons replaced) and cross the platforms Honoka made to get the heart up above, then drop down to get the last one. Drop down at the far right by the goal, where the card is, and go back over to the far left. Switch to Honoka YET AGAIN and jump on the green switch at the top to let Nagisa up again. Now just have both girls run across to the goal. Stage 7: (2 cards) This stage is all vertical. Get the heart at the right and jump on the blue switch. Switch to Honoka and use the platform that just moved out to get up to the green platform. Now have Nagisa jump on the silver switch. Send Honoka in to get the second heart, then have her come back out and stand on the platform above the yellow switch. Now put Nagisa on the yellow switch, and switch to Honoka again. First get the heart (try to land back on a platform so you don't have to go through all that with the switches again), then go on up to the green platform. Move Nagisa off to the side, then have Honoka drop the jar down. Bring Nagisa up, get the heart, and drop the switched platform. Switch to Honoka and put her on the platform, then walk Nagisa onto it and ride it up. Get the heart up here and repeat. Get the card at the left (if you're quick, you can get it without dropping back down and having to deal with the green switches again). Now put Honoka at the goal and drop Nagisa through the green platform at the right. Just fall down, getting the last two hearts, and then drop down at the end and get the card. Now hop up the moving platforms and touch the goal. Stage 8: (2 cards) Stand on the left-hand silver switch. Switch to Honoka and go left, drop the jar, get the heart in the upper left corner, drop all the way down, get the heart at the bottom, go through the door and get the two hearts here and the card, then ride the platform back up. (Phew!) Now put Honoka on the right-hand switch and do the same thing again on this side with Nagisa (this time there's a card in the upper corner and nothing under the platform, but you'll take the same path). Now just walk to the goal. Wasn't that easy? Stage 9: (2 cards) Go left, get the card, and drop down onto the conveyor. Ignore the switch for now and head over to the moving platforms. Get the heart above the first one, then ride across to the far right and use the vertically moving platform there to get the heart at the top. Drop down to the spring and the cheese grater (kill it) and stand on the silver switch. Now switch to Honoka, go right, get the heart, and drop down onto the moving platforms. Drop down twice (not all the way to where Nagisa is) and ride the conveyor for a heart. Ride the second conveyor for another. Switch back to Nagisa and head back up to the switch you ignored earlier and stand on it. Switch to Honoka again and bring her there too. (I don't know of a way to get through without all this backtracking, sorry.) Ride the left conveyor and get the heart under it, then use Nagisa to open the door and let Honoka through. Now get Nagisa all the way to the bottom (use the switch with Honoka to reverse the conveyors again), kill the knives, and get the last heart and the card. Jump on the green switch to let Honoka get down, and head to the goal. Boss: You face a giant blender in a room with two purple switches and a bed of spikes in the middle. When you step on one of the switches, a bomb (which seems to actually be an exploding soccer ball) falls down from above, and explodes after a few seconds. If you or the boss touch the soccer ball while it's sitting there, it'll bounce around. You have to time this carefully to get the ball to explode next to him. As far as I can tell, there is no way to get around to the other side of the boss, so unless you can take him out while he's still crossing the screen for the first time, you WILL take at least one hit during this battle. (And yes, the bombs hurt you, too.) Three hits, again, will take him down. *----------------------------* | III.3. World 3 (Fruit) | *----------------------------* Yes, fruit. This world introduces a new obstacle: explosive blocks. (They're red blocks with skulls on them.) Stomp on a red switch, and the blocks that make up a nearby explosive wall or floor will proceed to... well, explode. Touching an explosion at any point while it is visible will hurt you, so don't rush through too fast or you might get caught in the blast. Some enemies are also harmed by explosions; others are not, and will instead fall through if you detonate the floor beneath them. (In some cases you have to do this to complete the level.) Stage 1: Blow up the wall, get the heart. Blow up the floor (this will kill the pineapples), drop down, and get the heart. Don't kill the melon enemy with an arrow above its head; instead, jump past it and get the third heart, then blow up the floor underneath it. Jump down and get the fourth heart, then use the enemy to get up to the fifth heart and the switch. Detonate the floor here and drop down (getting the sixth heart), then hit the yellow switch. Bring Honoka down along the same path and cross over to the other side where the seventh heart is. Ignore the green switch--instead, go back to the right, hit the red switch at the far right, and use the spring to get to the card and the goal. Stage 2: Hit the switch and send Honoka up the platforms. Have her hit the silver switch so Nagisa can go through the door and get the first heart. Hop on the green switch to bring the platform down, and run off of it before it pushes you into the spikes. Switch to Honoka and move on, killing the pineapple and getting the heart it guards, then running across the first blue floor (but not the second) to drop its grapes. Get the heart here, then switch to Nagisa and get the heart there as you cross over to the extreme right edge of the stage. Go all the way up the green platforms and kill the green grapes here, then get the fifth heart and blow up the wall. Bring Honoka up here and have her get the card above Nagisa (blow the wall up again if you take too long getting here there), then have her use the platforms to get the next heart safely. The last heart is under a green platform just below and to the right of the spikes, and the goal is right there near it. Stage 3: Jump on the blue switch, walk on to the platform that appears, ride it out to its default position, and walk onto the other platform (with the heart on it). Switch to Honoka and jump on the switch with her, then switch to Nagisa and jump on the blue switch on the other side. Switch back to Honoka and jump on the upper platform which you can now reach, switch back to Nagisa and remove her from the blue switch (go ahead and get the heart here now), switch to Honoka and put her on the second platform, switch to Nagisa and put her back on the blue switch, switch to Honoka and jump on the green switch. Jump on the platform that descends (leave Nagisa down at the bottom!) and get the heart just to your left at the top. Jump on the green switch and use the platform to go up and get the card, then run off it to the left and keep moving so you don't land on the spikes at the bottom. Drop through the green platform onto the red switch, and then drop down the pit next to them. Switch to Nagisa and jump on the green switch. Switch to Honoka and jump up and get the heart, landing on the right- hand platform. Switch to Nagisa again and jump on the blue switch, then switch to Honoka and jump on the green switch like last time. This time, switch to Nagisa and put her on the platform too before you ascend. Use the spring on the right to bounce up and get a heart, then move onward, killing the pineapple and dropping down near the goal (there's another heart here). Bring Nagisa to the same place, then drop down and go left. Bring the platform down with the switch and--this is tricky--jump off the platform, while it's ascending, onto the green floor. Jump up to the last heard, then head right (ignore the blue switch) to the goal. Stage 4: Kill the grapes, get the heart. Drop down, kill the grapes again, and drop down again once. Wait for the melon to be standing on the explosive floor, then drop onto the switch. Drop down further and jump on the melon, ride him over and get the heart above you, then move right and jump on the blue switch. Now switch to Honoka, kill the pineapple, get the heart, and drop down and immediately hold left. This should let you stand on the platforms that the blue switch would normally remove. Get the heart at the left, then go stand on the blue switch and wait for the platforms to get out of the way. Drop down below and get the heart. Now go left and drop down even more, to where the goal is. Get the heart at the bottom and jump on the melon, then ride it across and get the card above (kill the grapes if you have to). Now kill both the melon and the grapes and switch to Nagisa. Go right, drop down, get the last heart, and jump on the platform. Switch to Honoka and jump on the switch. Switch to Nagisa and head for the goal, then bring Honoka in. Stage 5: Detonate the bomb wall, switch to Honoka, detonate the other one, and jump across to Nagisa's side so you can stand on the silver switch. Send Nagisa down a floor and have her get the heart and detonate the wall. Now use the platforms to go back up and stand on the left silver switch (you may have to blow up the walls again), and send Honoka through the door on the other side to get the other heart. Have Honoka make her way down a floor, blowing up the wall on the right and getting the heart, then drop her through the farthest-right green floor so she can get the card. Kill the grapes and go to the silver switch. Ride the platform back up to where you were, go to the right (you may have to re-detonate) and drop through the closer platform onto the left-pointing conveyor to get the heart. Stand on the silver switch and switch to Nagisa. Drop all the way down the left side and kill the grapes, then ride the platform up to where you were using Honoka and blow up the left wall. Get the heart here and the one on one of the conveyor belts, then go back around and get the other conveyor heart. Now make your way up the moving platforms to the highest one, and do the same with Honoka; when the top one reaches the goal with both of you on it, you'll complete the level. Stage 6: Jump right away and get the heart above your head, then climb the green platforms up to the top. Go right and kill the pineapple for the card it guards, then go back left and stand on the yellow switch. Bring Honoka up and cross the yellow platforms, getting the heart at the way and the one at the end. Drop down partially and ride the conveyor for the fourth heart. Drop onto the silver switch and switch to Nagisa. Go back to near the start, get the heart, then go left and drop as far down as you can. Switch back to Honoka and go back to the green platform with the card under it. Stand above the card, drop, and immediately hold left--you should land just on the edge of the ledge below. Get the heart, then drop off the ledge and jump on the blue switch. Have Nagisa get on the left platform, then Honoka get on the right platform. Ride it across and stand at the goal, and then use the same switch to bring Nagisa to the goal. Stage 7: (2 cards) This one is irritating. Run past the switch and drop into the little area with the melon (don't kill it). Jump to the left near the goal and get the hearts. Now go back to the right and wait for the melon to stand on the bomb floor (it can be tricky to judge where he's actually going to stop), then blow it up under him and jump on his head. Get the heart that's up and to the right, and ride him around to get the one in the corresponding position on the left. Blow up another floor under him. Ride him around a bit to get the two hearts here, then detonate yet another floor under him. Ride him around to get the cards, and get the heart in the middle. Now just go back up to the goal and bring Honoka over. If at any point you mess up and strand the melon on a little ledge, just put Nagisa somewhere safe and have Honoka try with the other melon rather than sit around waiting for the floors to reappear. Stage 8: (2 cards) Blow up the wall and head upward. Get the heart and drop the grapes. Now head back down (watch out for onions) and stand on the green floor. Have Honoka stand on the blue switch, and make Nagisa drop down through the floor. (If you do this in the opposite order you won't get the heart that's here. No idea why.) Leave her standing on a platform and lead Honoka around to the heart above the grapes on the other side (the stage is symmetric), then drop down through the green floor on her side and get the heart as you fall (if you're not quick enough, you'll have to cut across the top and re-drop Nagisa's grapes yourself). Get the heart above the green switch, then jump on it to send Nagisa up to a little hill with a heart on it. Use Nagisa to get the heart, then run around and stand near the platforms. As Honoka, leave the switch and wait for the platforms to return, then jump on the one Nagisa didn't ride. Use Nagisa to send Honoka up, and get the heart. Now bring both of them all the way up to the top, on opposite sides, using the platforms at the far left and far right. Cross the top floor (again watching for onions), get the cards, and get the goal. Stage 9: (2 cards) Immediately switch to Honoka and jump on the switch, then go back to Nagisa. Go over to the blue switch, but don't worry about it yet; instead, ride the platform up and walk off onto the conveyor for a heart. Now go down and stand on the blue switch. Switch to Honoka and go down to the right, then cross the platforms for another heart and keep going left. Jump on the platform, then switch to Nagisa and move out of the way (under the conveyor should be safe). Switch back to Honoka and, at the top, get the heart just to your right and drop the grapes. Switch to Nagisa and get the newly revealed heart, then ride the platform up and make your way to where Honoka was, getting the heart along the way. Take her route to get to where she is, but instead jump off to the left. Ignore the enemy and avoid the red switch for now, and move up. Kill the grapes and get the card it drops along with the heart up here. Now go back down and drop the melon through the exploding floor, and use it to get the last heart. Kill the melon for another card and stand on the goal, then have Honoka jump left and drop down to it as well. Boss: You're fighting... It's a fruit of some sort, but I don't remember which one it is that looks like that. Anyway, you'll notice red switches here and there (with green platforms above them) and exploding blocks in the floor. You'll also notice water at the left and right edges of the stage. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to use the exploding blocks to knock the boss into the water five times. Watch out though, as it'll go crazy and jump around faster than usual for a while after you hit it. It's a pretty easy fight though. *----------------------------* | III.4. World 4 (Sewing) | *----------------------------* As usual, you have a new hazard to deal with in this stage: bombs. Bombs in this case being little pink spheres with skulls on them. Unlike the soccer ball bombs from the World 2 boss, you can't knock these around. They appear when you step on purple switches. There are a few cases where you can get them to destroy enemies for you before you can reach them yourself, but usually they're just something to get in your way. You'll also meet the spool enemies in this stage. These are enemies of the type you can stand on, but instead of sliding around on the ground, they float all the way up to the ceiling and then drop down. Like a moving platform, except it's trying to kill you. Another enemy you'll see in significant numbers is teddy bears, which jump around when they move (a little like the World 3 boss, actually) and sometimes shoot at you. Finally there are sewing machines which are similar to the melons from World 3. Stage 1: Ignore the purple switch--don't try to kill the teddy bear with bombs, just kick it--and get the first heart that's in plain view just to the left. Drop down to get the second heart and HURRY back up so you don't get bombed. Hit the red switch and wait for the spool to rise up, then get the heart it was protecting and get out of the way as it comes back down. Ride the spool up to the fourth heart and get off at the top. Run right to the silver switch (the fifth heart is right on top of it) and jump on it. Switch to Honoka, follow along the path Nagisa took, and go past her to the far right. Now jump on the purple switch to drop a bomb which hopefully will kill some of the teddy bears (even if it doesn't, at least you got another heart). Go back up and drop down by the spring, getting the heart next to it and watching out for bears. Kill all four teddy bears (one of them has a card), go to the goal, and follow with Nagisa. Stage 2: Leap over the spikes and you'll land on the purple switch. Run! If you're quick you can get both hearts and the card before the bombs explode. Drop off the conveyor, watch out for the bomb if there's still one there, and wait on top of the green floor. Drop onto one of the sewing machine enemies when it comes by and use it to get "upstairs" to the third heart. Drop back down, kill the sewing machines, and drop down at the left. The fourth heart is in the lower left corner (careful, it's under a spool). Run right; the next heart is in the lower right corner under another spool. Wait for the spool to come down, then ride it up two levels to get a heart, THEN drop down and use it again to get to the silver switch. Now switch to Honoka ("Oh yeah, her"), drop down, and ride the spool down. Run across, ride the spool up to where Nagisa is, and cross the conveyor belt to the last heart. Switch to Nagisa and drop down, go across again to the left, and ride the spool up to the goal, then send Honoka back across the conveyor and do the same. Stage 3: Jump over the teddy bear and keep jumping right, or he'll probably jump on you. Kill the second teddy bear (you might be able to bomb him) and get the heart, then drop down. Head left, stand on the silver switch, and get Honoka. Drop down to where the first teddy is, kill him, and go down-left. Get the heart and move right; there's no room to jump over the sewing machines, so you'll have to time your movement right and walk across them. At the end head up first and jump on the green switch. Ride the platform up and run off it onto the card (don't sit there like an idiot expecting it to conveniently stop, it'd rather smash you against the ceiling). Now head down and get the heart that's between the sewing machines (haha, they can't see you!), then run left and step on the red switch as fast as you can to drop the sewing machines down. (If you stand there too long they'll shoot at you.) Jump up and get the heart, and land on the moving platform. Ride it across to get another heart, then drop down to the left onto the spring. Make your way across the sewing machines and get the heart to the right of the goal, then stand on the green switch. Now bring Nagisa right, across the sewing machines, and drop down through the green platforms and through the gap Honoka created for easy access to the goal. Stage 4: Drop down to the left, between the platform you're on and the one the goal is on. Stand in front of the purple switch (don't trigger it) and switch to Honoka. Drop down the same way again, jump onto the moving platform, then drop down on the other side of the spikes and land on the green switch. Switch to Nagisa and get the heart, then hit the red switch. Jump right (try not to land on the purple switch if you can avoid it), and ride the first conveyor and get the heart. At the end of the second conveyor start running backwards until the moving platform is close enough to jump on. Get the heart it leads to. You can either wait for the explosive floor to reappear so you can get the card safely or just jump for it and take a hit from the spikes, whichever you prefer, but either way you should get the heart first. Now drop down and run right and get the heart in the corner. Now head left. Jump on the first moving platform and jump up while on it to get the two hearts you can reach from it. Go from there to the second platform (going up and down). Ride it up to the two horizontally moving platforms (remember these?) and cross over to where the purple switch is (again, don't bother with it). Move Honoka off the green switch, move Nagisa onto the platform that comes down, put Honoka back on the switch, and have Nagisa jump on the blue switch at the top. Switch to Honoka and make your way to the far left platform, and get the last heart on the conveyor. The goal will be right next to you. Stage 5: (2 cards) Go left and wait for the spool to drop down, then as soon as he leaves jump up and into the little hole in the wall. Wait for him to drop again, then jump on his head and ride him up. Get the heart at the top and drop down to the right, then stand on the yellow switch. Switch to Honoka and do the same basic thing; don't bother with her switch, instead use the platforms to get up and drop the block of string (?) to let Nagisa up. Have Nagisa get the heart it revealed, then jump up either set of platforms and drop the other block. Get the other new heart, then go back up and prepare to be annoyed. The thing to do is hop quickly up the moving platforms before the blocks knock you off (a bit like what you had to do in 2-7). At the top of the center section is a card and a heart. At the right there's a heart in the lower "room" and a card in the upper one. On the left side there's another heart in the lower room and the goal is at the top. There's nothing I can tell you that will make it go faster, sadly. Stage 6: (2 cards) Immediately drop down the green floor; you'll get a heart as you fall and land on a silver switch. Bring Honoka down the same way, go right, and ride the platform up. Get the heart on the way, then jump on the blue switch. Switch to Nagisa and dash through the door to the left (you can get through it without getting squished if you're quick enough). Kill the bear, get the card, and ride up on the platform, getting a heart on the way. At the top, go right and drop down the green floor again. Switch to Honoka and jump onto the blue floor to drop the string, then get the card it was hiding. Kill the bear here and get the heart. Drop down and use the platforms to get up, getting the heart along the way. Go left and drop through the green floor again. Leave Honoka on the silver switch, and switch to Nagisa. Get the heart that's right in front of you, then drop through the green floor at the left (not the one next to the spikes), and stand on the silver switch here. Switch to Honoka and drop down, then head left and get the last heart. Ride the platforms up and drop through that little green floor at the top AGAIN. Land on the switch, switch to Nagisa, drop her down to the goal, then switch to Honoka and follow. I'm confident that there's a quicker way to do this stage, but I haven't worked it out yet. Stage 7: (2 cards) Drop through the floor, wait for the platform to get up a ways, then jump left. Get the heart and repeat. Take the spring up, go all the way left, and drop down next to Honoka. Stand on the platform, switch to Honoka, and drop through to the switch. Switch to Nagisa, get the heart, drop down, get the other heart, and head right and stand on the next platform. Switch to Honoka, drop onto the next switch, switch to Nagisa, get the next heart (you have to leap for it). Go up on the spring again, head all the way right, drop down, and stand on the platform. Switch to Honoka, bounce up on the spring, go right, drop down next to Nagisa, and send her platform up. Switch to Nagisa, get the heart, go left, and stand on the next platform. Switch to Honoka, go left, and stand on the green switch. Switch to Nagisa, get the heart, go left, go up via spring, and head left (or right, whichever you prefer). Don't jump on the purple switch. Use the platform the sewing machines are moving around to hop up to the card, then jump on one of the sewing machines and get the last heart. Leave Nagisa on a sewing machine and switch to Honoka. Take the spring up and head right (or left, whichever way you didn't go with Nagisa). Get the remaining card, then stand on Nagisa's sewing machine and wait until it moves you to the goal. Stage 8: (2 cards) Hit the purple switch if you want. Drop down and kill the bear, get the heart, drop down, kill another bear, get another heart, drop down again, kill yet another bear, get yet another heart. Drop down to the bottom some more and switch to Honoka. Go left, drop twice, and slip past the platform to drop down even further. Jump on the righthand silver switch. Switch to Nagisa and jump on the sewing machine when it comes your way. Wait until you have the heart, then switch to Honoka. When Nagisa is about to reach the silver door hanging from the ceiling in front of her, jump on the switch above it to retract it so she can get through. Switch back to Nagisa to get the heart, then wait for the sewing machine to get to the far left and jump off. Hop up the platforms to where Honoka is, get the card, and step on the yellow switch. Switch to Honoka and hop up the platforms. Drop on the blue floor to make the string fall on the silver switch you passed on the way up. Go right, get the card and the heart, and stand on the green switch. Switch to Nagisa and jump on the platform, then switch back to Honoka and jump on the conveyor so you can get the last heart (be quick about it, it'll switch directions on you when the ball of string you dropped disappears). Bounce up on the spring and head for the goal, then follow with Nagisa (if you're slow, you might have to have Honoka drop the ball of string back down again). Stage 9: (2 cards) Jump on the switch right next to you, drop down the gap you created, jump on the red switch next to you again, and drop down onto the spool (getting a heart). Ride it up to the heart at the top, then drop down one level and wait for it to come back up; when it does, use it as a platform to get to the heart above and to the left (under where you started). Switch to Honoka and go through the same routine on this side. Go right and head as up as you can to get the card, then drop down (watch out for the... uh... tape) and get the yellow switch. Switch to Nagisa, and go to the platform Honoka just made. Use it to get the heart, then run left and stand on the other yellow switch. Get Honoka back up however you can, head all the way left, and use Nagisa's platform to get the card, then head right to the goal and bring Nagisa along. Boss: It's a pincushion! Look around and you'll find that there's water at the bottom of the stage; your goal is to drop the boss down. Jump on the red switch as soon as he's completely on the explosive blocks; wait for them to finish exploding, then leap right so you land on the other side of him--he should be moving left at this point. Again, when he's on the blocks, jump on the red switch to drop him down. Immediately jump down and land on the next red switch, as he should still be above an exploding floor, then do the same again. That was fast, wasn't it? If at any point you end up on the wrong side of him, and you don't happen to be on the side with the spring, you can get out of his way by dropping through a green floor and running across, though this obviously won't work at the bottom. If you let him live for any significant amount of time, he'll use an attack where he sents lots of needles into the air and they fall down in random places, but if you use the strategy I just gave you this shouldn't be an issue. The goal will appear back at the top of the stage, so make your way back up. *----------------------------* | III.5.
