All characters have Active and Passive Skills. Active skills are skills you need to press A to do. Passive skills are skills that are always in effect once you put a point into them. To change your active skill that is active, press L. A picture represents every skill. To access your skill page, press START, then the R shoulder button. This game also has skill trees. With the skill trees, you need to have at least one point in the skills above a skill to put a point into it. Some skills are corrupt. This means that when you use this skill your corruption will increase. When your corruption increases, the eye of Sauron in the top-right hand corner of the screen gets larger. When the eye gets really big and starts pulsing and flashing, Ringwraiths come and attack you. Only active skills can be corrupt. All active skills cost Spirit to use. The blue orb near the bottom-right hand corner of the screen represents your spirit points, or SP. Some skills also give you hit points (health), or HP. You start the game with one point in this skill on the character you are playing. I do not recommend putting many points in these skills, with the exception of Legolas’s, because the more points you put in, the more Spirit it costs. On all of the characters, I have put these skills as secondary. Frodo also starts the game with the ‘The One Ring’ skill. If you have corrections, additions, or anything else, you can e-mail me at LILmonster0291@netscape.net. ============================ |Frequently Asked Questions| ============================= This is the Frequently Asked Questions Section. I will add more questions as they are asked or as I think of them. Q: What does Courage do? A: Courage adds to your Spirit Points and Hit Points. Q: What is the maximum number a skill can go up to? A: You can put 20 points into a skill, but some items can increase skills and you can get them above 20 (such as Sam's Cookpot, +2 to Resist One Ring). Q: One of my skills is green. Why? A: If you have an item that increases a skill (such as Sam’s Cookpot: +2 to Resist One Ring), then the skill the item increases will be green. If you have an item that increases all passive skills or all active skills then all your passive or active skills will be green, respectively. The item that increases a specific skill can usually only be used by the person with the skill, such as Sam’s Cookpot. Q: I have an item that increases one of my skills, but it’s not green. Why? A: Sometimes, for an item to increase a skill you need to have put at least one point into that skill. Q: When I try to put a point into a skill, it won’t let me. Why? A: You either don’t have a skill point in the box on the left, you aren’t on the level you need to be on for that skill, or you don’t have a point in the skill above that one on the tree. Q: What does 2H mean? A: Two- handed. Some weapons give extra damage if used alone and some must be used alone. ========= |Aragorn| ========= --------------- |About Aragorn| --------------- Aragorn, son of Arathorn, is a ranger. He met Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry in the Inn of the Prancing Pony in Bree. Aragorn is heir to Isildur and the rightful king of Gondor. He is in love with Arwen, daughter of Elrond. In the time of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, Aragorn is about 87 years old. Other names for Aragorn are Strider, Dunadan, Elessar, Estel, and Thorongil. ---------------- |Active Skills| ---------------- 1st tree: 2nd tree: --------- ------------- |Herbal| |Sword Throw| |Remedy| ------------- -------- | | | | ------- ------------ |Sweep| |Commanding| -------- | Presence | ------------ | | | | / \ ----------- --------- |Rage of | |Call | |The North| |Legolas| ----------- --------- Herbal Remedy (level 1)- Heals 25 Hit Points, +5/ level. Shield Offense (level 2)- +4 damage per 2 levels, plus chance of knockback. Increases shield block 1%/level. Parry (level 5)- Aragorn has 5% plus 1% per level to parry enemy blows, taking no damage. Ferocity (level 8)- Slain enemies restore Spirit Points to Aragorn. ----------------------- |Dual-Wielding Aragorn| ------------------------ A dual-wielding Aragorn uses two swords, rather than a sword and a shield. This option is only available to Aragorn, since he is the only one with the skill Dual Wield. Dual-Wielding Aragorn needs mostly defense to make up for not having a shield. Strength is important, but not as important as a Sword-and-Shield Aragorn because this one has two swords. Most other characters can (or have to) do this, with the exception of Legolas (who uses bows) and Gimli (who uses an axe and a shield, or a two -handed axe). Sword-and-Shield Aragorn needs a lot of strength to make up for the extra damage he is not getting from Dual Wield. He is well known as a master of arcane magic. He is owner to Narya, one of the Elven rings of power. Cirdon gave this ring to Gandalf. Gandalf is very wise and is a skilled magician. There are two different types of magic Gandalfs: Fireworks Gandalf and Thunderstrike Gandalf. Fireworks Gandalf uses fireworks instead of Thunderstrike, and a thunderstrike Gandalf is the opposite. You could be both fireworks Gandalf and Thunderstrike Gandalf, but you would have to alternate with skill points. Magic Gandalf (both Thunderstrike and Fireworks) need a lot of Courage for more Spirit Points. His father, Thranduil the Elvenking, held Bilbo and the Dwarves captive in the palace in Mirkwood. Legolas is a Sindarin Elf. The word Legolas means ‘Green Leaf.’ ---------------- |Active Skills| --------------- 1st Tree 2nd Tree ------------- -------------- |Overdraw| |White Knives| -------------- -------------- | | | / \ | ---------- ------------- --------------- |Suppress| |Spread Fire| |Forest Friend| ---------- -------------- ---------------- | | ------------- |Call Gimli| ------------- Overdraw (level 2)- Hold down the A Button for massive arrow damage, increasing per level. 6 Spirit. Critical Shot (level 3)- Increases chance of critical hit 10% + 2%/ level. ------------------- |Overdraw Legolas| ------------------ An Overdraw Legolas uses Overdraw as its main skill, rather than Spread Fire. All Legolass (Legolai?) need to have Accuracy as their main skill, including this one. Courage is not very important because Overdraw only uses 6 Spirit per shot. Therefore, Courage is a secondary Skill. Defense is important to Legolas because, like Gandalf, he has no shield. Overdraw Legolas is probably the most common tactic for using Legolas. Important Attributes: Accuracy, Defense, Strength Secondary Attribute: Health Least Important Attribute: Courage Important Skills: Overdraw, Critical Shot Secondary Skills: Meditation, Fleet of Foot, Hawkeye Least Important Skills: all others ---------------------- |Spread Fire Legolas| ---------------------- A Spread Fire Legolas uses Spread Fire as its main skill, rather than Overdraw. Many people dislike using Spread Fire Legolas because it costs a lot of Spirit points. Accuracy is not as important for this level because Spread Fire gives extra Accuracy per level. Courage is slightly more important to a Spread Fire Legolas than to an Overdraw Legolas because Spread Fire costs 9 Spirit Points, while Overdraw costs 6. Therefore, Courage is a secondary Skill. Defense is important to Legolas because, like Gandalf, he has no shield. Important Attributes: Defense, Accuracy, Strength Secondary Attributes: Health Least Important Attribute: Courage Important Skills: Spread Fire, Critical Shot Secondary Skills: Meditation, Fleet of Foot, Hawkeye Least Important Skills: all others ------------------ |Fighter Legolas| ----------------- A fighter Legolas uses mainly his passive skills and his bow to kill enemies. A Fighter Legolas needs Strength to deal out extra damage. Defense is also important because, like Gandalf, Legolas has no shield. Fighter Legolas does not need much, if any, Courage because Active Skills are not very important. All Legolass (Legolai?) need to have Accuracy as their main attribute, including this one. Important Attributes: Accuracy, Strength Secondary Attributes: Health, Defense Least Important Attribute: Courage Important Skills: Fleet of Foot, Hawkeye, Critical Shot Secondary Skills: Meditation, Orcslayer Least Important Skills: all others ======= |Frodo| ======= -------------- |About Frodo| ------------- Frodo Baggins is a Hobbit from Hobbiton, a land in The Shire. He is the Ring-bearer, selected by The Council of Elrond. He set out with Merry, Sam, Pippin, Aragorn (or Strider, as the Hobbits called him), Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir to Mordor. The beginning of THE LORD OF THE RINGS starts out with Frodo’s 33rd birthday. 33 is considered to be the Coming of Age in The Shire. When he starts his journey, Frodo is 50 years old. Frodo is the only character in the game with no summon skill other than Gimli. --------------- |Active Skills| ---------------- 1st tree 2nd tree -------------- ----------------- |The One Ring| |Hobbit Appetite| --------------- ----------------- | | | | | | | | / \ / \ -------- -------- ------------- ------- |Escape| |Charge| |Knife Throw| |Snare| -------- -------- ------------- ------- The One Ring (level 1)- Frodo becomes invisible for 10 seconds, +2 per level. +4 damage. Corrupt. 10 Spirit. Escape (level 5)- Frodo rolls away from enemies, stunning them for 1 second per level. 3 Spirit/ level. Charge (level 8)- A running attack that does +2 damage per level and may stun the foe. 2 Spirit/ level. Hobbit Appetite (level 1)- Heals 25 Hit Points, +5 per level. Food restores more Hit Points. 8 Spirit, +2/ level. Knife Throw (level 3)- Frodo throws his knife for +1 damage per level. 2 Spirit. Snare (level 5)- Traps do 8 damage, +1 per level. Frodo may set one trap per 2 levels. 9 Spirit. ----------------- |Passive Skills| ----------------- 1st tree 2nd tree ----------------- ---------- |Resist One Ring| |Rummage| ----------------- ---------- | | | | / \ -------------- --------- ------ |Strength of| |Sneak | |Duck| | the Shire | | Attack| ------ ------------- ---------- Resist One Ring (level 3)- Lessens corruption cause by using the One Ring 4%/ level. Strength of the Shire (level 8)- Frodo regenerates Hit Points and Spirit, increasing per level. Rummage (level 2)- Each level makes it more likely that Frodo will find better items. Sneak Attack (level 5)- Attacking enemies from behind does +2 damage/level. Duck (level 12)- Frodo takes less damage from enemies, equivalent to +1 armor per level. ------------------ |Ring-Using Frodo| ------------------ A Ring-Using Frodo uses the One Ring skill to fight enemies. Since the One Ring skill is corrupt, it is important to have points in the Resist One Ring skill. A Ring-Using Frodo also needs a fair amount of Courage because the One Ring skill costs 10 Spirit Points. Strength is not as important for this Frodo as it is for a fighter Frodo because the One Ring skill does +4 damage per level. Strength, therefore, is a secondary skill. Health is not very important because Courage gives you Hit Points and because you are not going to be attacked a lot by enemies because you will be invisible. Strength of the Shire is good because it helps Frodo regenerate his Hit and Spirit Points. Defense is not very important because Frodo uses a shield. Important Attributes: Courage, Accuracy Secondary Attribute: Strength Least Important Attributes: Health, Defense Important Skills: The One Ring, Resist One Ring Secondary Skills: Strength of the Shire, Hobbit Appetite Least Important Skills: all others ---------------- |Trapper Frodo| --------------- A Trapper Frodo uses the Snare skill to kill enemies. This tactic can be difficult because you not only have to set the traps, but you have to lure the enemies into them. Courage is important for a Trapper Frodo because it costs 9 Spirit Points to set a trap. Strength is not as important for this Frodo as it is for a fighter Frodo because you will be setting traps most of the time, rather than fighting with your knife. Defense is not very important because Frodo uses a shield. Strength of the Shire is good because it helps Frodo regenerate his Hit and Spirit Points, which are important to this type of Frodo. Health is not very important because Courage gives you Hit Points. Important Attributes: Courage, Accuracy Secondary Attribute: Strength Least Important Attributes: Health, Defense Important Skill: Snare Secondary Skills: Hobbit Appetite, Strength of the Shire Least Important Skills: all others ---------------- |Fighter Frodo| --------------- A Fighter Frodo uses his knife to kill enemies. Strength is important to this type of Frodo because it helps him deal out more damage. Unlike the other Frodos, Courage is not very important to this one because you are mostly hacking away at enemies with your knife. Health is more important to this Frodo than to the others because there is more chance you will be hit and because you are not putting many points into Courage. Defense is not very important because Frodo uses a shield. Strength of the Shire is good because it helps Frodo regenerate his Hit and Spirit Points, which are also important to this type of Frodo. Iron Will (level 10)- Eowyn regenerates health. Stand Fast (level 5)- Eowyn has 5% plus 1% per level to parry enemy blows, taking no damage. Eyes of Rohan (level 5)- Each level makes it more likely that Eowyn will find better items Ferocity (level 10)- Slain enemies restore Spirit Points to Eowyn. --------------- |Fighter Eowyn| --------------- A fighter Eowyn uses a sword and shield or a 2H sword to kill enemies. Most people would prefer to put a few points into Stand Fast and use a 2H sword, but some people prefer the extra shield block. Strength is important to this Eowyn so she can deal out the extra damage. Defense is more important if you are using a 2H sword instead of sword and shield. Iron Will is important to this Eowyn so she can regenerate hit points easier. Double Strike is also a good skill to have for this Eowyn because it deals out more damage. Eyes of Rohan is a good skill to have to find a good sword and shield, if you are using a shield. Courage is not very important because Double Strike is just about the only active skill that helps and it only costs 7 Spirit Points. Health is fairly important to this Eowyn because there is more chance that you will be hit. WITH 2H SWORD Important Attributes: Strength, Defense Secondary Attributes: Health, Accuracy Least Important Attribute: Courage Important Skills: Iron Will, Stand Fast Secondary Skills: Herbal Remedy, Eyes of Rohan, Double Strike, Ferocity Least Important Skills: all others WITH SWORD AND SHIELD Important Attributes: Strength, Accuracy Secondary Attribute: Health Least Important Attributes: Courage, Defense Important Skills: Iron Will, Eyes of Rohan Secondary Skills: Herbal Remedy, Ferocity, Double Strike Least Important Skills: all others ---------------- |Passive Eowyn| --------------- A Passive Eowyn uses her passive skills to help her to kill enemies. This Eowyn is pretty much like a fighter a fighter Eowyn but uses more passive skills. Courage is not important because passive skills do not cost Spirit Points to use. I would suggest to use a 2H sword for this Eowyn because you will most likely be putting points into Stand Fast, but I will still put sword and shield. Health is fairly important to this Eowyn because there is more chance that you will be hit. Strength is important to this Eowyn so she can deal out the extra damage. Defense is more important if you are using a 2H sword instead of sword and shield. Iron Will is important to this Eowyn so she can regenerate hit points easier. Be careful with Strength of Heart, though. You may put too many points into it that you won’t be able to summon Ringwraiths, so the extra 2 damage per level will be useless. WITH 2H SWORD Important Attributes: Strength, Defense Secondary Attributes: Health, Accuracy Least Important Attribute: Courage Important Skills: Iron Will, Stand Fast, Eyes of Rohan Secondary Skills: Herbal Remedy, Ferocity, Strength of Heart Least Important Skills: all others WITH SWORD AND SHIELD Important Attributes: Strength, Accuracy Secondary Attribute: Health Least Important Attributes: Courage, Defense Important Skills: Iron Will, Eyes of Rohan Secondary Skills: Herbal Remedy, Ferocity, Strength of Heart Least Important Skills: all others ------------------------- |Princess of Rohan Eowyn| ------------------------- A Princess of Rohan Eowyn uses Princess of Rohan to stun enemies and then uses her sword to kill them. Again, you can use a 2H sword or a sword and shield. I would recommend a 2H sword again because you will most likely be using Princess of Rohan to stun the enemies, running away, and killing them. Courage is important because the more points you put into Princess of Rohan, the more Spirit points it costs. Strength is important for this Eowyn, too, because after you stun an enemy you must kill it within a few seconds. Health is not very important because Courage gives you Hit Points. WITH 2H SWORD Important Attributes: Strength, Courage Secondary Attributes: Defense, Accuracy Least Important Attribute: Health Important Skills: Princess of Rohan, Iron Will, Stand Fast Secondary Skills: Herbal Remedy, Ferocity, Least Important Skills: all others WITH SWORD AND SHIELD Important Attributes: Strength, Courage Secondary Attribute: Accuracy Least Important Attributes: Defense, Health Important Skills: Princess of Rohan, Iron Will Secondary Skills: Herbal Remedy, Ferocity, Strength of Heart Least Important Skills: all others (thank you to Ninneo, radagast416, Bilroy, and wizardwarlord for Eowyn ideas) ======= |Gimli| ======= ------------- |About Gimli| ------------- Gimli, son of Gloin, is a dwarf, who, in the beginning of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, hates Elves. But, as the story goes on, he gains an amazing and unexpected relationship with Legolas. Gimli comes from the Blue Mountains. He is sometimes called Gimli Elf-friend and Lord of the Glittering Caves. Some stories say that he and Legolas sailed into the West together. If this is true, then Gimli was the only Dwarf to go to the Undying Lands. --------------- |Active Skills| --------------- 1st tree 2nd tree ----------- ---------------- |Axe Throw| |Healing Salves| ----------- ---------------- | | | / \ | ----------- ---------- ------------- |Whirlwind| |Berserk | |Battle Cry| | Attack | | Fury | ------------ ----------- ---------- Axe Throw (level 2)- Gimli throws his axe for +1 damage/ level. 3 Spirit. Dwarven Resilience (level 7)- 10% chance +2%/ level of blows glancing off. Spirit of the Forge (level 10)- While still, Gimli recharges Spirit. Thanks to Yami Chaos for Gimli's skills. ---------------- |Fighter Gimli| ---------------- A fighter Gimli uses his axe and some of his skills to kill enemies. Like moat of the other fighter characters, you can play Gimli with a 2H axe or an axe and a shield. Strength is the most important attribute to help deal out ultimate damage. Accuracy is pretty important so you can hit your enemies. Health is fairly important because there is a greater chance you will be hit because Gimli is a melee character. Defense is more important to a 2H axe Gimli because he has no shield, but it is still important to a Gimli with an axe and a shield. Courage is not too important because pretty much the only Active Skills useful to this type of Gimli are Whirlwind Attack and Berserk Fury, which only cost 6 and 10 SP to use. Strength of Beard is a very helpful skill to get more HP without putting attribute points into Health or Courage so you can concentrate more on Defense and Strength. Axe Throw is good for the occasional needed long-range attack to get the Crebain.
