Legal Information ======================================================================= I. CONTROLS ======================================================================= Controls for Crash Bandicoot are not very complicated, here are what each controls do. Keep in mind, * means that the move is a special ablity. D-Pad – Moves Crash, left or right A – Select; Jump; Swim acceleration; Fire shots in sky levels B – Spin; Run faster during polar chase L - *Turbo Run R – Slide; Crouch; Spin in water; Roll in sky levels Start – Pause Game; Select Select – Shows Status ======================================================================= II. SPECIAL ABILTIES ======================================================================= When you defeat a boss, you will get moves that you could not do before. Here is a list of all of them and what they do, they are also in order from first ability to last ability. Super Body Slam – After defeating Dingodile, you will get the Super Body Slam. In midair, press R and you will see Crash drop face down onto the ground (ouch). This move is required for destroying strong crates. Double Jump – When you defeat N Gin, you will get the Double Jump move. First you jump, then when Crash is at the top of the jump, press A to jump again. This move is required because as you go through the game, you will find that there are gaps that normal jumps can not get you past. Tornado Spin – When Tiny is defeated, the Tornado Spin ability is yours. Press B (Spin) quickly 3 times and Crash will spin longer than usual. This move can be used to get past large gaps that even Double Jump can’t get past. Tornado Spin can kill enemys the same way as normal Spin does. Turbo Run – When the last boss (Neo Cortex) is defeated, you will get great Turbo Run move to use. Just hold L and you will be running faster than you normally do. This makes time trails much easier. ======================================================================= III. CRATES/BLOCKS OVERVIEW ======================================================================= There are many crates in Crash Bandicoot XS, this will give you a better understanding of all of them. By the way, all these descriptions are my own, so if I make any mistakes, email me (my email is found at the top of the page) Wooden Crates – The plain brown crates that contains a apple. Mystery Crate – A crate with a question mark on it, holds 5 apples. Crash Crates – A crate with Crash’s face on it, you’ll get a extra life. Keep in mind that destroying the crate won’t get you the extra life, you must actually get Crash’s face once the crate is gone. Aku Aku Crates – A crate of Aku Aku mask on it, if you get hurt by an enemy, that will die instead of you, once you get 3 Aku Aku masks, you will be invinicible for a short of amount of time. Checkpoint Crates – The crate with the letter C on it, destroy it and when you die, that is where you will come back to life. Spring Crates – These are the crates that have the 4 lines on them, when you jump on them, you will get 2 apples, keep jumping until they break after 5 times. Note, if you leave a spring crate for too long after you jump on it once, they will break before you jump on them 5 times. Cycle Crates – These crates cycle between items at a fast speed. Correct me if I am wrong, but I belive that only cycle between Extra Life, Mystery and Empty crates. TNT Crates – The red crates that say TNT on them, jump on them and they will start a countdown from 3. Do not spin them, as they will explode straight away. Nitro Crates – These are the green crates, they will blow up as soon you touch them. If you are wondering how you are suppose to get all the crates, then I’ll tell you. At one stage of the level (most likely near the end) you will be able to hit a green box with a ! on it, they will explode all Nitro crates. Strong Crates – These are the purple crates in the game, they can not be destroyed by spin, instead you must use the Super Body Slam to destroy them (see Special Abilties) Time Crates – These crates will only appear in time trails, they are yellow crates with the numbers 1, 2, or 3 on them. Once they are destroyed, the time will be halted for 1, 2, or 3 seconds, depending on the crate. Metal Blocks – These are just blocks that can form a platform for you to stand on. Bouncy Blocks – This is a metal block but with a arrow pointing upwards, stand on it and you’ll start bouncing. *I’ll finish off the rest of this section later on. ======================================================================= IV. OBJECT IN EACH LEVEL ======================================================================= If you want to finish everything in the game, and get 100% or 101% on your status, then these are the things you must do in each level. Purple Cystals – These will be found one stage of the level. 1 or 2 Gems – If you destroy all the crates, you will get a gem at the end of the level. Some levels have 2 gems, see Special Level sections for more info. Relics – These are the things you get in the Time Trail if you beat the time for each level. There are 3 Relics, a Sapphire Relic, a Gold Relic and a Platinum Relic. Colour Gems – There are 4 special colour gems in the game, see Gem Locations for more information. ======================================================================= V. WALKTHROUGH ======================================================================= Before I start, I’d like to make sure that every understands the status check I put every so often during the walkthrough. If you do not have the same amount of apples as I do, it doesn’t matter because I started this Walkthrough when I had finished the game. But you should get the same amount of crates as I do so you can get the gem at the end of the l evel. Level 1 – Jungle Jam Start off your first level by walking to the left, destroying the first 2 crates by spin or jumping into them. Jump onto the spring crate and get the apples in the process. Spin the lizard out of the way and follow the apples to the next 2 crates. After destroying the crates, the lizard, and the plant eating thing, proceed to get the apples that are in a rainbow shape. *Status Check: 82 apples, 7/42 crates Jump over the gap and onto the Checkpoint crate and then jump over another gap. If you miss and fall into the gap, you’ll die. Jump onto the bottom spring crate and just leave Crash until both spring crates are destroyed. Spin away the lizard and jump onto the bonus pad. *Status Check: 2 apples, 10/42 crates Move to the left and destroy the next 6 crates, then there’ll be a crate above you so jump and destroy that. Keep walking and you’ll see 2 spring crates, wait for Crash to destroy both of them and proceed. Follow the apples to 6 more crates. When you see the metal block with a arrow pointing upwards, jump onto it and hit the Crash crate and you’ll get a extra life. Follow more apples and jump onto the teleporter and you’ll be back to the main level. *Status Check: 66 apples, 26/42 crates You’ll see a wooden crate in midair, DO NOT spin it, instead jump on it and then land onto the metal block. Now you can jump and get the Crash crate for a extra life. Spin away the next 2 lizards and you’ll find a bunch of metal blocks and apples. You basically just follow the apples and then jump across the gap to the checkpoint crate. Get the Aku Aku Crate and jump onto the steps and spin away the plant. Follow the apples again and destroy the next 2 crates. At the end of the steps, there will be another plant, spin that out of the way and destroy the 4 crates. *Status Check: 98 apples, 36/42 crates After you jump the gap, there are 2 crates on top of each other. Jump onto the first one and wait until both crates are destroyed and you’ll land on a bouncy metal block and you can jump to the other side. Destroy the crate after that and you’ll see the first Cycle crate, wait for it to turn to Crash, and then spin it. Then there will be 2 more crates left, jump onto the top one and then jump onto the spring crate to get more apples. *Last Status Check: 20 apples, 42/42 crates Level 2 - Ship Wrecked This is the first sea level, first spin the boxs on the bottom. Be careful about those red fishs, only spin them if they not showing their spikes. When you go down the level, you'll see a spiky ball thing, aviod that or you will die. Spin the 6 boxs at the bottom. As you go down, becareful of those red fishs again. Now you'll see the checkpoint, so spin it. *Status Check: 71 apples, 19/63 crates Spin the crates and the sharks and avoid the spiky ball again. Go up the steps and there will be 4 more crates and another spiky ball. Once you get past them, you'll notice some really long eels, you just need to spin them but don't let it bite you. Once the 3 eels are gone, keep going to the bottom and there will be another checkpoint. *Status Check: 88 apples, 28/63 crates Spin the 2 crates and the shark as well. Then swim up the steps and there will be 5 more crates for you to destroy. Continue to spin the sharks away and you'll find 8 crates, go and spin them. Then you'll find a checkpoint, spin it. *Status Check: 24 apples, 45/63 crates Spin the next crate and avoid the spiky ball. Keep swimming and there will be 6 more crates including a Crash crate, spin all of them and avoid yet another spiky ball. Keep on swimming and you'll come to a part where there are spikes coming from top and bottom, you'll have to swim between them and spin the checkpoint. *Status Check: 28 apples, 52/63 crates Get the Aku Aku crate and avoid the spiky ball, then swim upwards and kill the 2 eels on your way. Kill the shark and spin the 8 crates on the ground. Keep swimming and you'll see 2 crates in front of a spiky ball. Theres a chance if you spin it from the front, you'll hit the ball, so swim directly above the crate, face towards the crates and spin. Now just keep swimming, avoid or kill the fish and go through the pipe. *Last Status Check: 47 apples, 63/63 crates ======================================================================= VI. GEM LOCATIONS ======================================================================= These gems will help you get the 2nd gems in special levels. Here are how to get the 4 coloured gems, to get the 2nd gems, view Special Levels section. Blue Gem (Level 10) ------------------- To get this gem, you must have the Tornado Spin ability. Go through the level as normal but when you see the Nitro ! blocks, stand on it and Tornado Spin to the left. Continue to do this until you come to a bouncy block where a Blue Gem is above it. Keep in mind that you MUST finish the level to keep the gem. Green Gem (Level 13) -------------------- If you want to get a good idea on where this gem is at the start, swim left and you’ll see that it is blocked by TNTs and metal blocks. So keep swimming until you find the ! block, hit it by swimming into it. Then swim back to where you first saw the green gem, now you can hit the TNT and it’ll explode the rest of the TNT inside the metal blocks. Now you can go grab the gem and finish the level, easy wasn’t it? Red Gem (Level 16) ------------------ Go through the level as normal until you reach the Nitro ! block crates. Then drop off a bit to the left and land on a bouncy block, then drop off to the right on another bouncy block and land on the metal plantform. Now just keep jumping (be careful) until you reach the red gem. Its not easy getting back and it might take a few tries. Yellow Gem (Level 20) --------------------- Go through the level as normal until you find a stack of Nitro crates and a spinner on the left of it. Instead of spinner past the Nitros, spin over to the left and land on the circular platform. Quickly jump to the bouncy metal block. There will be a huge gap to get past, so you have to double jump to the left as high as possible, and then quickly do a Tornado Spin to the 3 metal blocks. Now just double jump to the bouncy block and get the yellow gem. Now finish the level to keep the gem. ======================================================================= VII.
