And while I frankly don't care, thats not nice of someone... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Why this FAQ? This FAQ exists for one sole reason. Ian Woodward dared me to... I would like to say that, while writing this, I came to the conclusion that Octopi could be useful in general. But, they are not. This FAQ is written to help that one kid who has a pet octopus and wants him in this game to be almost respectably decent. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) What are Octopi? Octopi is the plural form of Octopus. Octopi are largely considered to be the most worthless Tactics Ogre unit. They are orange, look kinda like a squid, and have eight tentacles... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) How do I get an Octopus Octopi are NOT worth the 3000 goth you have to pay to get one in Urodela. You COULD get one there, but I reccomend you try and recruit one sometime during the mermaid series of battles instead, because that is the only series of battles where an Octopus is a useful ally, and Urodela comes after those battles. If you buy an octopus, make it either a fire or water element to take advantage of the fact that it will almost ALWAYS be in water. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) So... What can an Octopus do? Water makes or breaks an Octopus. IN WATER: Octopi can use a basic attack that hits in front of them for damage comparable to a second level dragon's physical attack. They also can use an attack that hits two squares in front of them for significant damage and a chance of confusing the target. They have decent defense and agility. OUT OF WATER: Octopi can use a basic attack that hits in front of them for damage slightly worse then a first level dragon's physical attack. They also can use an attack that hits two squares in front of them for a little damage and a chance of confusing the target. They have almost decent defense, and the agility of a dead turtle. GROWTH: HP: +8 SP: +1 STR: +6 INT: +3 AGI: +2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) River Maps Ideal Equipment Warp Ring Agility Bracelet Agility Bracelet Elemental Ring Your octopi, if given an oppurtunity, can wreck some havoc in a river map. Make sure their is ALWAYS a storm brewing by having someone use the item the generates storm. In a long battle, the rising water and high HPs of your octopi will be a great asset to your efforts. In a short battle, your octopi will probably never see combat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) Sea Maps Ideal Equipment Warp Ring Agility Bracelet Elemental Ring (whatever) Your octopi are actually a good force in these maps. Make sure you keep the storm brewing to quickly swallow up your enemies in the water. Have your octopi engage enemies who are "Wading", and you will see a 200% increase in octopus power AND a 50% decrease in the target's power. This makes octopi disturbingly powerful. In these scenarios, your Octopi ROCK! Yes, I'd actually reccoment your keep one around for these scenarios, rare as they are. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) Land Maps Ideal Equipment Warp Ring Agility Bracelet Agility Bracelet Elemental Ring/Agility Bracelet Don't use them here unless you have no choice, because they receive almost 50% penalties when out of water. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) Snow Maps Ideal Equipment N/A Don't use them here. You could seriously have a movement range of 1. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE, READ THIS! I actually found a good strategy to use octopi for... Equip a water one with a water ring and put it in water. Also, equip some INT bracelets instead of the usual AGI bracelets. Now, if your enemy enters the water, you can tear them up, and if they stay away, you can snipe at them with some almost decent magic talent. Works pretty well, as long as your ring doesn't break. The reason we have two water rings is that they both add a little to INT and AGI, and if one breaks you can still cast.
