VERY useful to taking out annoying enemies at long distances. -------------------- Mercury + Cockatrice -------------------- MP Cost: 6/Attack Function: Gives the whip the power to Stone enemies. Enemies can only be Stoned if they have very low HP. You can jump on these foes to reach new heights. ------------------- Mercury + Manticore ------------------- MP Cost: 6/Attack Function: Allows the whip to discharge small clouds of poison that gradually deduct an enemy's HP. Nathan's Strength is decreased when this is used. ----------------- Mercury + Griffin ----------------- MP Cost: 10/Attack Function: Similar to the Ice Whip in the fact that you can attack rapidly. Strength is also decreased a bit. --------------------- Mercury + Thunderbird --------------------- MP Cost: 10/Attack Function: Gives an enemy the shock treatment. You can hold the whip to do additional damage (although it's a smaller amount). ----------------- Mercury + Unicorn ----------------- MP Cost: 20/Attack Function: Gives your whip the power of light. Whenever you attack, some of your HP is recovered. Strength is increased. ------------------- Mercury + Black Dog ------------------- MP Cost: 40/Attack Function: Gives you a powerful whip of darkness. When it hits an enemy, a cloud appears and rapidly damages it (like Poison). Useful but very costly. ------------------ Venus + Salamander ------------------ MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Increases your Strength by 25%. Since the MP cost is low, you should make heavy use out of this combo throughout the game. --------------- Venus + Serpent --------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Increases your Defense by 25%. ------------------ Venus + Mandragora ------------------ MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Increases your Luck by 25%. Make use of it when you're outlooking for items. ------------- Venus + Golem ------------- MP Cost: 16/Time Function: Increases Defense. The amount depends on how much of the map is uncovered. Of course, this is a great asset late in the game. ------------------ Venus + Cockatrice ------------------ MP Cost: 2/Time Function: Gain Experience Points from walking (not running). Not terribly useful...unless you enjoy holding Left/Right for an hour... ----------------- Venus + Manticore ----------------- MP Cost: 2/Time Function: Gain twice as many Hearts from a pickup. If subweapons are your best friends, this is the combo for you. ------------------- Venus + Thunderbird ------------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Increases Intelligence by 25%. ------------------- Venus + Thunderbird ------------------- MP Cost: 16/Time Function: Identical to the Venus + Golem combination, except this one affects Strength. --------------- Venus + Unicorn --------------- MP Cost: 8/Time Function: Defensive power is doubled while Strength is cut in half. ----------------- Venus + Black Dog ----------------- MP Cost: 8/Time Function: Strength is doubled while Defense is cut in half. This is a great combination if you can dodge attacks very well. -------------------- Jupiter + Salamander -------------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Two small fireballs circle around Nathan and damage anything they touch. It gives a nice basic defense, but remember that it won't protect you from everything. ----------------- Jupiter + Serpent ----------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: An "advanced" version of the above combo, at no extra cost. Instead of two objects circling Nathan, there's four. This helps to protect you from more projectiles. -------------------- Jupiter + Mandragora -------------------- MP Cost: 16/Time Function: One hella useful combo. If you stand still, your HP will gradually regenerate. --------------- Jupiter + Golem --------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: The length of invincibility after being hit lasts four times as long. The time is useful for escaping from an enemy that you find overpowering. -------------------- Jupiter + Cockatrice -------------------- MP Cost: 8/Time Function: Turns Nathan into a walking statue that protects him from status effects. Movement and jumping abilities are limited. ------------------- Jupiter + Manticore ------------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Surrounds Nathan with a cloud of poison that damages nearby foes. ----------------- Jupiter + Griffin ----------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: While running on the ground, a green barrier surrounds you and damages any enemies. Highly useful if traveling through an area with weak foes. --------------------- Jupiter + Thunderbird --------------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: This combo decreases damage taken by 50%. However, you get blown away after being hit. It's useful just as long as you don't fall down into a pit or something of that sort. ----------------- Jupiter + Unicorn ----------------- MP Cost: 8/Time Function: A white, circular barrier surrounds Nathan. This is probably the best defensive shield you can get. ------------------- Jupiter + Black Dog ------------------- MP Cost: 8/Time Function: A black hole surrounds Nathan. This barrier does more damage to foes than the Jupiter + Unicorn combo does. However, Nathan is "poisoned" and will gradually lose HP. ----------------- Mars + Salamander ----------------- MP Cost: 8/Attack Function: Changes the whip into a massive sword of flames. Strength gets a boost when this is used. -------------- Mars + Serpent -------------- MP Cost: 4/Attack Function: Changes the whip into a short sword of ice. Enemies can become frozen when hit. Strength is decreased. ----------------- Mars + Mandragora ----------------- MP Cost: 10/Attack Function: Summons a large sword of roses. Strength is also increased (a bit higher than the Salamander combo). ------------ Mars + Golem ------------ MP Cost: 4/Attack Function: My personal favorite. Changes the whip into a sledgehammer that damages any nearby ground enemies. A bit slow but fun to use. ----------------- Mars + Cockatrice ----------------- MP Cost: 12/Attack Function: Now you can attack with a purdy blue tonfer that can Stone enemies. Attack power receives a very nice boost with this. ---------------- Mars + Manticore ---------------- MP Cost: 8/Attack Function: Changes the whip into short-range poisonous claws. -------------- Mars + Griffin -------------- MP Cost: 16/Attack Function: With this combo, you charge up the attack to unleash a sword slash that increases damage and range the longer you hold it. ------------------ Mars + Thunderbird ------------------ MP Cost: 16/Attack Function: Here's your change to do some fist fighting. Repeatedly press attack to execute more moves. -------------- Mars + Unicorn -------------- MP Cost: 32/Attack Function: Attack with a holy sword. Has a nice range and does good damage. ---------------- Mars + Black Dog ---------------- MP Cost: 32/Attack Function: Attack with a slow but powerful laser gun. I'm sure we all know that they had laser pistols in the 19th century... ------------------ Diana + Salamander ------------------ MP Cost: 32/Attack Function: Launches a fireball from your whip for light damage. --------------- Diana + Serpent --------------- MP Cost: 64/Attack Function: Fires 3 short rays of ice from your whip. Can freeze enemies. ------------------ Diana + Mandragora ------------------ MP Cost: 96/Attack Function: Releases 3 beams of roses. Does good damage but don't overuse it, or you'll be out of MP. ------------- Diana + Golem ------------- MP Cost: 16/Attack Function: Creates a mini-earthquake, hitting anything in your path. Think of it as a lite version of the Earth Demon's quake. ------------------ Diana + Cockatrice ------------------ MP Cost: 16/Attack Function: Throws 3 rocks from your whip. These can Stone enemies. ----------------- Diana + Manticore ----------------- MP Cost: 16/Attack Function: Throws a ball of poison when you attack. This combo does decent damage. --------------- Diana + Griffin --------------- MP Cost: 128/Attack Function: Costly, but effective. Launches arrows from the end of your whip that rip through enemies. ------------------- Diana + Thunderbird ------------------- MP Cost: 12/Attack Function: When you spin the whip, it creates an electrical field. Makes a nice, basic defense. --------------- Diana + Unicorn --------------- MP Cost: 48/Attack Function: Releases a ball of light that homes in on a random enemy and repeatedly rams into it. The damage it does isn't exactly impressive. ----------------- Diana + Black Dog ----------------- MP Cost: 32/Attack Function: Releases 8 shells that form a circle for a few seconds. This attack does decent damage. ------------------- Apollo + Salamander ------------------- MP Cost: 20/Use Function: Throws a powerful bomb in an arch. ---------------- Apollo + Serpent ---------------- MP Cost: 20/Use Function: Throws a ball of ice that splits into small pieces on contact. The initial target takes the most damage, while other enemies hit with the pieces will take a smaller amount of damage. ------------------- Apollo + Mandragora ------------------- MP Cost: 40/Use Function: Throws a rose that continously does damage to any enemy that steps on it when it lands on the ground. -------------- Apollo + Golem -------------- MP Cost: 30/Use Function: Five giant spears pierce through the ground near you. ------------------- Apollo + Cockatrice ------------------- MP Cost: 60/Use Function: Massive boulders rain from the sky. They can split and hit other enemies, and they can also Stone them. ------------------ Apollo + Manticore ------------------ MP Cost: 10/Use Function: Throws a poisonous powder bomb. When it comes in contact with some- thing, it spreads out for a short distance. And being poisonous, the powder does rapid damage. ---------------- Apollo + Griffin ---------------- MP Cost: 60/Use Function: Throws a tornado in front of you. This whirlwind sends out waves at random angles to the left and right. -------------------- Apollo + Thunderbird -------------------- MP Cost: 80/Use Function: Chucks a ball o' electricity that shocks enemies. ---------------- Apollo + Unicorn ---------------- MP Cost: 80/Use Function: Showers down holy spears all over the screen. It can be of some use to you if you can get used to the trajectory. -------------- Saturn + Golem -------------- MP Cost: 4/Attack Function: Summons a large hawk that divebombs any enemy in its path. ------------------- Saturn + Cockatrice ------------------- MP Cost: 6/Shot Function: Now you have your own Medusa Head! It spits rocks when you attack that can Stone. ------------------ Saturn + Manticore ------------------ MP Cost: 8/Attack Function: Summons a ghast familiar. While it is quite slow to attack, it does heavy damage. ---------------- Saturn + Griffin ---------------- MP Cost: 8/Shot Function: Summons a wind sprite that acts similar to the bat. But in this case the shots home in on their targets a little. -------------------- Saturn + Thunderbird -------------------- MP Cost: 16/Attack Function: Summons a crow flowing with electricity. Its attack power is quite high, so make use of it. ---------------- Saturn + Unicorn ---------------- MP Cost: 32/Shot Function: Summons a cherub that attacks with a bow whenever you do. ------------------ Saturn + Black Dog ------------------ MP Cost: 4/Shot Function: Summons an imp that absorbs attack power when you hold down the attack button. Then release it to fire a beam. This attack would be more useful if you could move the imp around whenever he's attacking. ------------------- Uranus + Salamander ------------------- MP Cost: 160/Use Function: Summons a Salamander that rains down meteorites. It's useful if the attacks can actually hit the enemy. ---------------- Uranus + Serpent ---------------- MP Cost: 120/Use Function: Summons a Serpent that circulates rocks around the screen and can freeze enemies. ------------------- Uranus + Mandragora ------------------- MP Cost: 100/Use Function: Summons a Mandragora that releases energy near itself. Not exactly the best summon since it probably won't hit everything in your view. -------------- Uranus + Golem -------------- MP Cost: 100/Use Function: A Golem appears at the bottom of the screen and summons rocks. ------------------- Uranus + Cockatrice ------------------- MP Cost: 200/Use Function: Summons a Cockatrice that brings a barrage of rocks with it. Does good damage. ------------------ Uranus + Manticore ------------------ MP Cost: 80/Use Function: Summons a Manticore that rains poison on the screen. Since the MP cost is lower than the other summons, the damage done is not quite as high. ---------------- Uranus + Griffin ---------------- MP Cost: 100/Use Function: Summons a Griffin that throws wind blades. -------------------- Uranus + Thunderbird -------------------- MP Cost: 200/Use Function: Summons a Thunderbird that rains thunder bolts on all enemies on the screen. ---------------- Uranus + Unicorn ---------------- MP Cost: 100/Use Function: Summons a Unicorn that restores your HP. ------------------ Uranus + Black Dog ------------------ MP Cost: 100/Use Function: Summons a Black Dog that damages enemies. The damage delt will restore your HP. ------------------ Pluto + Salamander ------------------ MP Cost: 4/Time Function: If you've played Dracula X, you should recognize the item crash ability. Depending on what sub-weapon you have with you determines what effect this combo does. --------------- Pluto + Serpent --------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Throws 2 sub-weapons in one use. ------------------ Pluto + Mandragora ------------------ MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Increases the amount of EXP gained from enemies by 20%. You'll need this when you want to level up late in the game. ------------- Pluto + Golem ------------- MP Cost: 8/Time Function: Apparently Konami enjoyed Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden II. Just like the powerup in NGII, this combo creates a replica of Nathan that mimics everything he does. ------------------ Pluto + Cockatrice ------------------ MP Cost: 6/Time Function: Increases Defense. The amount depends on how long you've been playing the game. ----------------- Pluto + Manticore ----------------- MP Cost: 5/Use + Sub-Weapon Cost Function: Sub-weapons use MP instead of Hearts. Very useful when Hearts are not at your disposal. ------------------ Pluto + Griffin ------------------ MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Increases walking and running speed. ------------------- Pluto + Thunderbird ------------------- MP Cost: 4/Time Function: Similar to the Cockatrice combo, except this one affects Strength. --------------- Pluto + Unicorn --------------- MP Cost: 20/Time Function: Nathan glows and cannot be harmed by anything. However, he can't attack either. Use it to get through areas with foes you don't wish to bother with. ----------------- Pluto + Black Dog ----------------- MP Cost: 5/Time Function: Nathan changes into a Skeleton. Instead of a whip, you attack by throwing bones. On occasion you will throw a giant bone that does heavy damage to anything it hits.
