I----------------------I I 1)B) VERSION HISTORY I I----------------------I Version 1.1.0 - January 2006 Major update! I realised that the difficulty rating for each song actually changes between each mode. So you'll notice that the Track List section looks totally different now. I'm still working on listing all the difficulties for Concert and Battle Mode, though. Also, a couple of minor spelling erorrs and a few other little things have been fixed. Version 1.0.0 - January 2006 First release of the guide. Almost complete, just a few sections still to be added. These are coming very soon! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 ******************************************************************************* 2) FIRST THINGS FIRST... ******************************************************************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 I-------------------I I 2)A) INTRODUCTION I I-------------------I Welcome! Welcome to the wonderful world of Donkey Konga 2. If you never got round to playing the original Donkey Konga, then I can safely say that you're going to love this game. If you are veteran bongo-player fresh from completing the original game, then you'll find that lots of fresh new songs and game modes await you in this sequel. So what exactly is new in Donkey Konga 2? Check out section 2C for the exact changes that have been made for this sequel. In this guide, I'm going to attempt to cover everything about this game. Note that this is a PAL guide, because the line-up of songs is completely different between the PAL (European) and NTSC (American) versions of the game. Total beginners should start reading "Section 3: How To Play" for the basic information about the game. Further on is the song list, which also lists difficulties for all the tracks. There's also a Lyrics section at the end, so that you can sing along as you play the songs! If you like this guide, be sure to check out my companion guide for the original Donkey Konga, which contains all the information you need to play the game! Enjoy! I------------I I 2)B) STORY I I------------I Coming Soon! Music plays, and you have to beat along to it using the DK Bongos. If you hit them in-time with the music, you'll make up a pretty cool percussion line for the track. This section will cover the basics of gameplay, and we'll start by covering how to set up the game when you first play. I--------------------------I I 3)A) SETTING UP THE GAME I I--------------------------I If you have a pair of DK Bongos, plug them into Controller Socket 1. Any subsequent Bongos or regular Controllers can be inserted into the other three ports. Bear in mind that a controller can be used instead of the bongos, although I highly recommend you invest in a set of Bongos if you want the full gameplay experience. Now, put the Game Disc into your Gamecube. Press the Power button, and the game will start. First you have to select whether to display the game in 50HZ or 60HZ mode. 60HZ mode is preferable, as it produces a clearer picture, but some older TVs don't support it. A Health & Safety warning will display. Press Start to acknowledge it. Then, you will be asked whether you want to create a game file on your Memory Card. Donkey Konga 2 takes 5 blocks of memory data, which is nothing, really, and requires to create a file to save all your game data. Select YES to continue. (You can select NO, but it means you can't save your progress) Now the Title Screen will display. Press the Start button on your bongos, which is located on the vertical panel in between the two drums, or the Start button on your controller if that's what you're using. You will now be in the Main Menu. Use the left and right bongos (or the Control Stick) to navigate the menu. Go right four times and press Start to select the Electric Hut. Now press Start at "DK Bongos & Controller". Here you can configure your bongos and controllers. Whichever ports a pair of Bongos is connected to, a bar will appear. Here you can set the clap sensitivity. The clap sensor is located in between the two drums. When you clap, a small bar will raise, and slowly fall back down. Clap a few more times, then adjust the slider (with the left and right bongos) to a few notches below where the line jumps up to. This ensures the sensitivity is right. Most players will find the centre is the best place for the slider. Too far left, and the sensor picks up everything, too far right, and it might not pick up a quiet clap. NB For 4-player multiplayer games, each sensitivity should be low (ie far right), otherwise your bongos may pick up other players claps. For any controllers connected, you can set the rumble feature on or off, and the control configuration. See the next section (3B) for more details on controller configurtions, but for now, I recommend Type B. There! You're all ready to play! I-----------------------------------I I 3)B) CONTROLS AND GAMEPLAY BASICS I I-----------------------------------I So how do you use the bongos and controllers? Here are the controls for both. *----------------------------------------------------------------* * BONGOS * * MENU CONTROLS * * * * Left Drum - Scroll the menu down * * Right Drum - Scroll the menu up * * Start - Select a menu option * * Press and Hold Both Drums - Return to the previous menu screen * * * * * * CONTROLLER * * MENU CONTROLS * * * * Control Stick - Navigate menus up or down * * A Button or Start - Select a menu option * * B Button - Return to the previous menu screen * *----------------------------------------------------------------* In the game, you hit the bongos in-time to the music. Coloured circles scroll along the screen, and you must hit the corresponding bongo when each circle passes through the target marker on the left of the screen. Here are what the colours correspond to. YELLOW CIRCLE - Hit the LEFT bongo RED CIRCLE - Hit the RIGHT bongo PINK CIRCLE - Hit BOTH bongos at the same time BLUE STAR - CLAP your hands Note that when you are instructed to clap, any short, loud noise will register. Some people prefer to hit the plastic sides of the bongo drums instead. Here are the controls for the in-game action. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BONGOS GAME CONTROLS Left Drum - Hit when you see a yellow circle Right Drum - Hit when you see a red circle Both Drums - Hit when you see a pink circle Clap Your Hands - Clap when you see a blue star Start - Pauses the game CONTROLLER GAME CONTROLS There are 3 different controller setups, and you can choose which option suits you best in the Electric Hut in DK Town (See section 3A). Type A is useless, Type B is quite good (and is my prefered setup) and Type C is also workable. Here they are. This shows which buttons correspond to which action on the bongos. TYPE A Control Stick or D-Pad - Hit left bongo A, B, X or Y Buttons or C-Stick - Hit right bongo Left and Right Bongo Buttons - Hit both bongos L or R Buttons - Clap Start - Pause the game TYPE B L Button - Hit left bongo R Button - Hit right bongo Left and Right Bongo Buttons - Hit both bongos A, B, X, or Y Buttons or C-Stick - Clap Start - Pause the game Type C Y Button - Hit left bongo X Button - Hit right bongo Left and Right Bongo Buttons - Hit both bongos A Button - Clap Start - Pause the game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that's the controls. Also, you will sometimes be required to perform a drum roll. This is indicated by a circle with a long tail, like this: /---\----------------\ / /-\ \ \ I I I IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII \ \-/ / / \---/----------------/ If it's yellow, you have to drum-roll on the left bongo for as long as the tail is in the target circle. If it's red, drum-roll the right bongo. It's best to use both hands on one bongo to get a good point total, as you can hit it twice as many times with two hands. If it's a pink tailed circle, drumroll on both bongos as fast as you can. If it's a blue tailed star, you have to rapidly clap, although it's better just to hit either side of the bongos as fast as you can. Every time you hit a circle as it passes through the target marker, you are awarded a rating which appears briefly above the marker. 'Great' appears if you hit it bang-on, when the circle is perfectly positioned inside the marker. You get an 'OK' if the circle was just out, and a 'Bad' if you were well off the marker. If you totally fail to hit a note, you get a 'Miss', although this doesn't show up until the final point summary at the end. OK! Now you're ready to play. Try out a simple, solo stage on Monkey Mode in Street Performance. I recommend All Star, Losing My Religion, and La Bamba to start off with. For more in-depth information about gameplay, see the next section, Modes and Menus. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 ******************************************************************************* 4) MODES AND MENUS ******************************************************************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 Donkey Konga 2 has a rather overwhelming amount of things to do in it. Here I'll list all the menus and modes contained in the game, and first I'll summarise the main menu (the first one you see after the title screen). STREET PERFORMANCE This is the main single player mode, where you can beat along to the tracks at three different levels. Unlike the original, you can also play Duets in this mode. BATTLE For two players only, here you can play head-to-head with a friend to see who has the best drumming talent. CHALLENGE If you're good enough, you (and a friend, if you want) can battle through a selection of tracks from the game. FREESTYLE ZONE A new addition for DK2, this mode lets you and up to three others jam to any song you want, with no on-screen prompts. It's basicaly a freestyle mode, where you can beat away till your heart's content! CONCERT The main multiplayer mode, join together with your friends and try your hands at a quartet. Alternatively, two players can share the same set of bongos for some confusing but fun action! MUSIC LAB One to four players can battle it out on two different mini-games which both utilise the DK bongos. To play, you will have to gather coins from some of the other modes. ELECTRIC HUT Here you can change the options for the game. HALL OF RECORDS This contains a leaderboard of most-selected songs, along with a record of which Dixie's notes you've received, and which badges you've earned. SHOPPING MALL Here you can spend all your hard-earned coins buying bongo sound-sets and Gorilla Level tracks. In the next few sections, I'll go into more detail about each mode, and how to set up a game in each. At the start of each sub-section, I've included a quick guide of the menu screens to go through to get into the mode. I-------------------------I I 4)A) STREET PERFORMANCE I I-------------------------I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 or 2 Players Street Performance > Select Solo or Duet > Select Difficulty > Select Track > > Select Controller and Bongo Sound ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the main game mode, where you can play any song at any level. Once you enter, you need to choose whether you want to play a Solo or a Duet. Solo is the normal mode for one player, while duet is for two players. You can also play duet with just one player, in which case the computer will play the other part for you. Next, you need to choose a difficulty. Choose Monkey mode if you're a total beginner, Chimp if you're relatively experienced, and Gorilla if you're an expert. Note that you have to buy Gorilla tracks with your coins before you can play them (See Section 4I for more details on buying tracks). Monkey, Chimp and Gorilla Beat-Mix mode is a new addition for Donkey Konga 2, replacing the rather rubbish JAM mode from the original. In Beat-Mix, the notes that you have to play for each track change every time you play. So, for instance, the first time you play the first note could be a clap, then the second time it could be a left bongo hit. This mode adds a bit of extra challenge for players who know each track inside-out. You can only play a track on Beat-Mix once you've earned a 100% Clear for that track on the corresponding difficulty in the main mode. After you've selected a level, you need to select a track to play. There's a wide range of stuff in there, from rock, to latin, to game soundtracks. Choose something to match your mood! The number of bananas next to the song title shows you how hard the song is. 1-3 bananas is quite easy, 4-6 is moderate and 7-8 is very hard. Note also that the banana rating is for the difficulty you are on at the moment: a Gorilla track with a 1 banana rating is much harder than a Monkey track with a 1 banana rating. But, that same Gorilla track is easy compared to the other Gorilla tracks which have higher banana ratings than it does. EXAMPLE "I'm a Slave 4 U" - Monkey Mode - 1 Banana - VERY EASY "Pumping on Your Stereo" - Gorilla Mode - 1 Banana - QUITE HARD "Mansize Rooster" - Gorilla Mode - 8 Bananas - IMPOSSIBLE Once you select your track, you can select which bongo sound set you wish to use. Scroll through with the left and right bongos (or the control stick). These add a new sound instead of the regular bongos and claps. So, for example, in the Drums sound set, a left or right hit souns a drum-kit drum, and a clap sounds a cymbal crash. For info on other sound sets, check Section 6B. After you select your sound set, press Start on the controller you wish to use. Although the bottom of the screen shows all the controllers plugged in, you can only use one in Solo, and two in Duet mode. When you're in the game, you have to hit the corresponding bongo as its circle passes through the white target marker at the left. See "Section 3B: Controls and Gameplay Basics" for more details. Your objective here is to hit as many accurate (Great or OK rated) notes as possible. Doing this fills up the Phonograph Gauge in the top right of the screen. It has to be filled beyond the clear marker to successfully complete the song. If it's still in the red, you've not hit enough notes correctly, but if it's in the yellow or the green, you're set to complete the track. Beware, though, as hitting Bad or Miss rated notes DECREASES the gauge, so you might hit some bad notes at the end and just fall short of the clear line. Very annoying! If you get into the yellow or the green by the end of a song, you get a silver medal next to the song on the track selection screen. Get a totally full Gauge (quite hard, but you can make some mistakes) and you get a gold medal. I don't yet know if there's any special reward for getting a gold on every track. Every successful note you hit, you get coins, which fall in to the register below the target circle. A Great gives you 2 coins, OK gives you 1. You get none for a Bad or Miss. You also get one coin for every hit you do on drum rolls, so make the most of it: these are where you can really rack up your total amount. Use these coins to buy stuff in the Shopping Mall (See section 4I). You will only receive the coins you have collected if you clear the stage (ie the Gauge is in the yellow or the green at the end of the song). Finally, we have the points box in the lower right. You get points for accuracy, and the number of hits you make on drum rolls. The top 3 point totals for each track are stored in the high-score records which appear on the track selection screen. At the end of the track, you'll be given your point totals if you cleared the track. You'll then be given a title based on your performance. The titles run as follows: (Sorry! Coming Soon!) If you scored within the top 3 high-scores for this track, you'll be asked to pick a badge to input on the high-score tables. There are a variety of badges available, and you can scroll through them by hitting the left or right bongos. Each person who plays the game should choose their own badge, and stick to it. This way, you can see which person got which score on the high-score tables. A list of the available badges, along with information on how to get more of them, can be found in Section 4)F)c). I-------------I I 4)B) BATTLE I I-------------I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 Players Only Battle > Select Track > Select Controllers and Bongo Sounds ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Battle mode, two players drum together Head-to-Head to see who's the best at Donkey Konga 2! This mode is for 2 players only. Select Battle from the main menu, and then select the track you and your friend want to drum along to. Now you can use the left and right bongos (or control stick) to select your bongo sound set. Press Start on the two controllers you want to use (they don't necessarily need to be the ones in controller ports 1 and 2), and press Start again to begin. In this mode, the winner is the person with the most points at the end of the track. Points for each player are displayed in the corresponding box at the top and bottom of the screen. As well as getting points for Great and OK rated hits, and losing them for Bad or Miss rated notes, battle mode offers you new ways to gather the all-important points to beat your opponent. The POW Block appears once for each player, and replaces one of the normal bongo or clap circles. The POW Blocks respond to anything: left, right or clap. It's important to hit these as accurately as you can, because they can drop your opponents score dramatically if you hit it correctly. The following are the effects for the different ratings for hitting a POW Block: Great - Drop opponents score to 0 OK - Drop opponents score by 90% Bad / Miss - No effect You can see how important it is now. If you miss your block but your opponent gets a Great on his, then your scores will be dramatically different, and you probably won't be able to win. During the battle, a slot-machine will appear for both players. As it spins, three of the notes will have 'Stop' written above them. You must try to hit each of these with the same accuracy: Great, OK, or Bad. Each hit will get stop one wheel of the slots depending on how it was hit. Great gets you a Link, OK stops on Tetra, and Bad stops on Ganondorf (a Miss will get make the reel stop on the idiot fairy Tingle). If you hit all three of the notes with the same accuracy (eg Great, Great, Great), you'll receive a points bonus. Three Great's (three Link's) gets you 10,000 points. Three OK's (three Tetra's) gets you 8000 points. Three Bad's (three Ganondorf's) gets you a measly 4000 points. According to the manual, there are other combos you can create, but "they're secret". I will endeavor to find all of these and put them into the next version of the guide. The final feature is the "Rock, Paper, Scissors Roll". In Battle mode, every song ends with a big drumroll on both drums. During this, pictures symbolising Rock, Paper and Scissors appear on the left. Each hit changes the picture. you need to try and beat your opponents symbol at the end of the drumroll. For anyone who doesn't know how Rock, Paper, Scissors works, I'll explain. Your hand can be one of three things: a fist (Rock), a flat hand (Paper) or a hand with two fingers out (Scissors). Each hand beats one hand, but loses against the other hand. Rock blunts Scissors (Rock wins) Scissors cut Paper (Scissors win) Paper covers Rock (Paper wins) So, for example, if you end up with scissors and your opponent has paper, you win, because scissors defeats paper. If both have the same hand, it's a tie. If there's a winner, that player gets to keep his opponent's drum roll bonus points (the points he's ammassed during the final drum roll). If it's a tie, nothing happens. And that's Battle mode. Make sure YOU always come out on top, OK? I----------------I I 4)C) CHALLENGE I I----------------I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 or 2 Players Challenge > Select Solo or Duet > Select number of tracks > > Select Controller(s) and Bongo Sound(s) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This mode can be played with 1 or 2 players. The aim is to complete every song in a difficulty level to a reasonably good standard. Start by selecting Challenge in the main menu. You'll then need to choose Solo if you're just playing yourself, or Duet if you're playing with a friend. After this, you need to choose how many songs you want to play through: 6-Song Set is for beginners. It contains Monkey and Chimp level tracks. 12-song set is for intermediate-players. It contains Chimp and Gorilla level tracks. Full set is for experts. It contains a whopping 34 songs on Chimp and Gorrilla level. Note that you can't play the Full Set until you've unlocked EVERY Gorilla track at Jungle Jams in the Shopping Mall. You buy these tracks using coins you gain from Street Performance. Also note, just for reference, that the last song in all 3 sets is the secret track "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye". Challenge mode is the only place that you can hear this song. Now, all the controllers inserted will show up on the bottom of the screen. Players can choose their sound set with the left or right bongos (or the control stick), and then press Start on their controller. Once one controller is selected (or 2 if you're playing Duet), press Start again to begin. In this mode, tracks are played in a random order, one after the other. You have to try and clear them all. Unlike in Street Performance, the Phonograph Gauge in the top right starts off full. It gradually falls if you get Bad or Miss rated notes, but it DOESN'T refill if you get Great or OK notes. The only time it refills is at the start of each new song, but it doesn't go up by much. If it ever totally depletes, it's Game Over. The red, orange and green colours on it make no difference whatsoever, so you can ignore them. It's only when the gauge totally empties that you lose. Other things on the screen include the Points Box, which is the same one for both of you in Duet mode. This fills if you make good hits, and falls if you make bad ones. The three top point tallies for each set are saved. The final thing is the flag at the bottom of the screen. This counts up how many tracks you've successfully completed so far. I---------------------I I 4)D) FREESTLYE ZONE I I---------------------I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 to 4 Players Freestyle Zone > (Options can be changed while playing) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll start off by saying that Freestyle Zone is rather bizarre. Basically, it lets you play whatever you want on the bongos. there are no notes that appear, no points, nothing on the screen. Just the scrolling background, the song name, and a Hit Counter. When you enter the mode, a Welcome message appears. Press Start to acknowledge it. The introductory music ("Start Jamming!") plays in the background. Try hitting a bongo, or clapping. Notice that a large picture pops up. Yes. This mode allows you to just beat away to the music. You can have more than one player playing at once. Every hit produces a picture: a different one for Left, Right, Both, and Clap. the pictures change every 50 hits. If you want to access options in this mode, press Start. this will take you to a menu at the top of the screen. Continue takes you back to the "action", and Quit leaves the mode. If you want to alter settings, move to Change Settings, and press Start. First you can change the song. you can select all of the songs that appear in Street Performance, as well as "Start Jamming!", a remix of the Donkey Konga 2 Theme. Press Start again to proceed to Background Selection. This allows you to change the background that appears while you drum. The options are... Thrillsome Jungle Fearsome Jungle Sleepy Beehive Busy Beehive Snowy Mountain Rumbly Peak Coral Sea Moonlit Sea Port City - Foggy Morning Port City - Firey Sunset Konga Land Konga Nightlife Press Start once more to get to the Bongo Sound Set menu, where you can change the sound of your bongos to any sets that you've unlocked in Bongos A-Go-Go. And, by the way, you can't actually WIN in Freestyle Mode - it keeps going on. Forever. I--------------I I 4)E) Concert I I--------------I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 to 4 Players Jam Session > Select Share or Quartet > Select Track > > Select Controller(s) and Bongo Sound(s) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Concert, there's no competition between players. You and up to 4 friends can play the tracks together, each filling in a different percussion line to the music. If all 4 players have bongo controllers, and are reasonably talented at the game, this can be one of the best ways to play Donkey Konga 2! First, select Jam Session from the main menu. You'll then need to choose whether you want to play a normal Quartet (the computer fills in any parts if you don't have 4 people), or whether you want two people to share one set of bongos (One player does the hits, the other does the claps). Then select a track. The more bananas there are next to a track, the harder it is. Finally, all players use left or right to choose their bongo sound set. Press Start when you're ready. When all players have pressed Start, someone needs to press it again to begin. NB If you want to try a different line, simply plug your controller into the corresponding controller socket before you start. As for stuff on-screen, there isn't much, just the indicators at the left of the screen which show you which part is which. At the end of the song, the players are given a Synch Rating, which shows how well you played together. I----------------I I 4)F) MUSIC LAB I I----------------I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 to 4 Players Ape Arcade > Select Mini-Game > (For Barrel Race, Select Set Length) > > Select Controller(s) (and, for Rhythm Keeper, Bongo Sound(s)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are 2 different minigames that you can play. In-depth information on both, as well as Match That Badge, is coming very soon! Defaults changes everything back to the Default setting, but doesn't erase any high scores etc. I----------------------I I 4)H) HALL OF RECORDS I I----------------------I The Hall of Records has been expanded slightly since the original. It is no longer home to the high score tables for each track - if you want to see them, simply go to the track selection scree of the mode of your choice, and move to the song you want to see scores for. After about a second, the high scores will appear at the top of the screen. This applies to nearly every mode. Anyway, here's what you can find in the new Hall of Records. DIXIE'S NOTES Here, you can view all of the notes that you have received from Dixie to date. There are over 50 notes to collect overall. Scroll through the notes by pressing left or right, and press Start to exit. For more information on Dixie's Notes, see Section 8. HIT PARADE Here, you can view the leaderboard of the most popular song choices in each mode. To switch between modes, press left or right on the bongos. Press Start to exit. The modes that you can select are: Street Performance - Solo All-Mode Total Battle Concert - Quartet Concert - Share Street Performance - Duet BADGE COLLECTION Here, you can view all the badges that you have collected after playing Match That Badge after a minigame in the Music Lab. Press Start to exit. For more information on badges and Match That Badge, see Section 4)F)c). I--------------------I I 4)I) SHOPPING MALL I I--------------------I In the Shopping Mall, you can buy all sorts of things with your coins from Street Performance. I go into detail on what you can buy and for how much in Section 6, so here, I'll only list the shops themselves: JUNGLE JAMS Here you can buy Gorilla level music for expert drummers. BONGOS A-GO-GO Buy new Bongo Sound Sets for all modes in this shop. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 ******************************************************************************* 5) Track List ******************************************************************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 These are the tracks you can choose from in the game. Let's face it, Donkey Konga 2 is a bit boring to watch somebody else play. If there were lyrics on-screen, then people who weren't playing could sing along with the songs, and it would be more fun for everyone. Well, worry no more! Once again I've compiled lyrics for all the songs in the game, so get singing! And bongo-ing, of course... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL STAR By Greg Camp Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb In the shape of an "L" on her forehead Well, the years start coming and they don't stop coming Back to the rules and I hit the ground running Didn't make sense not to live for fun Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb So much to do so much to see So what's wrong with taking the back streets You'll never know if you don't go You'll never shine if you don't glow Hey now you're an All Star get your game on, go play Hey now you're a Rock Star get the show on get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold It's a cool place and they say it gets colder You're bundled up now but wait 'til you get older But the meteor men beg to differ Judging by the hole in the satellite picture The ice we skate is getting pretty thin The water's getting warm so you might as well swim My world's on fire how about yours? That's the way I like it and I'll never get bored Hey now you're an All Star get your game on, go play Hey now you're a Rock Star get the show on get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'M A SLAVE 4 U By Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo I know I may be young, but Ive...I've got feelings too. Out on the front porch watching the cars as they go by Eighteen blue, twenty one grey Looking ahead for the first time that we could drive Out on our own To speed away From the sidewalks Running away from the streets we knew Sidewalks Like the time we thought was made for you Or... All of the days that passed us by, And all of the sun is gone... Away... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RUNAWAY TRAIN By David Pirner Call you up in the middle of the night Like a firefly without a light You were there like a blowtorch burning I was a key that could use a little turning So tired that I couldn't even sleep So many secrets I couldn't keep Promised myself I wouldn't weep One more promise I couldn't keep It seems no-one can help me now I'm in too deep, there's no way out This time I have really led myself astray Runaway train never going back Wrong way on a one way track Seems like I should be getting to somewhere Somehow I'm neither here nor there Can you help me remember how to smile Make it somehow all seem worthwhile How on earth did I get so jaded Life's mystery seems so faded I can go where no one else can go I know what no one else knows Here I am just drownin' in the rain With a ticket for a runaway train Everything seems cut and dry Day and night, earth and sky Somehow I, just don't believe it Runaway train never going back Wrong way on a one way track Seems like I should be getting to somewhere Somehow I'm neither here nor there ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DON'T LET ME GET ME By Alecia Moore and Dallas Austin Never win first place, I don't support the team Can't take direction, and my socks are never clean Teachers dated me, my parents hated me I was always in a fight cause I can't do nothin' right Everyday I fight a war against a mirror Can't take the person starin' back at me I'm a hazard to myself Don't let me get me I'm my own worst enemy Its bad when you annoy yourself So irritating Don't wanna be my friend no more I wanna be somebody else I wanna be somebody else, yeah LA told me, "You'll be a pop star, All you have to change, is everything you are." Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears She's so pretty, that just ain't me Doctor, doctor won't you please prescribe somethin'? A day in the life of someone else? She said, "I think I remember the film, And as I recall, I think, we both kind of liked it." And I said, "Well that's, the one thing we've got." I see you, the only one who knew me And now your eyes see through me I guess I was wrong So what now? It's plain to see we're over And I hate when things are over When so much is left undone And I said, "What about 'Breakfast at Tiffany's?'" She said, "I think I remember the film, And as I recall, I think, we both kind of liked it." So if I, decide to waiver my Chance to be one of, the hive Will I, choose water over wine And hold my own and drive? Oooow! It's driven me before, and it seems to be the way That everyone else gets around But lately I'm, beginning to find that When I drive myself my light is found Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there With open arms and open eyes, yeah Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there I'll be there.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PREDICTABLE By Benji Madden and Joel Madden Something isn't right I can feel it again, feel it again This isn't the first time That you left me waiting Sad excuses, and false hopes high I saw this coming, still I don't know why I let you in I knew it all along You're so predictable I knew something would go wrong (Something's always wrong) So you don't have to call Or say anything at all You're so predictable (So predictable) So take your empty words Your broken promises And all the time you stole Cause I am done with this I could give it away, give it away I'm doing everything I should've And now I'm making a change I'm living today I'm giving back what you gave me I don't need anything I knew it all along You're so predictable I knew something would go wrong (Something's always wrong) So you don't have to call Or say anything at all You're so predictable (So predictable) Everywhere I go, everyone I meet, Every time I try to fall in love, They all want to know why I'm so broken. Why am I so cold? Why I'm so hard inside? Why am I scared? What am I afraid of? I don't even know, this story's never had an end. I've been waiting, I've been searching, I've been hoping, I've been dreaming you would come back, But I know the ending of this story. You're never coming back, Never... Never... (x4) Can you hear us pumping on your stereo? (x4) Life is a cigarette, smoked to the end But if you rocket the middle bit Then you burn all your friends The wider your eyes, the bigger the lies, yes it's true Can you hear us pumping on your stereo? Can you hear us pumping on your stereo? Take a look through your window now You're all alone on the road Well you'll burn all your bridges down And now you're losing control So the wider your eyes, the bigger the lies, yes it's true If you make a mistake where you couldn't relate to your groove Yes it's true Can you hear us pumping on your stereo? (x4) Well now that I've met you I love you as a friend Yeah, but your love is magodon Love is the end The wider your eyes, the bigger the lies, yes it's true If you make a mistake where you couldn't relate to your groove Yes it's true Can you hear us pumping on your stereo... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I JUST WANNA LIVE By Benji Madden, Joel Madden and John Feldmann I need an, alarm system in my house So I know when people are, creeping about These people are, freaking me out these days It's getting hetic everywhere that I go They won't leave me alone There's things they all wanna know I'm paranoid of all the people I meet Why are they talking to me? And why can't anyone see... I just wanna live Don't really care about the things that they say Don't really care about what happens to me I just wanna live (Just wanna live... [x6]) I rock a, law suit when I'm going to court A white suit when I'm getting divorced A black suit at the funeral home And my birthday suit when I'm home alone Talking on the phone, got an interview With the Rolling Stone they're saying "Now you're rich and, now you're famous, Faking girls all know your name and, (Lifestyles) of the Rich and Famous, Your first hit aren't you ashamed?" Of the life, of the life Of the life we're livin' I just wanna live Don't really care about the things that they say Don't really care about what happens to me I just wanna live Stop your messing around, boy Better think of your future Better make some good plans, boy Said every one of my teachers Look out! You'd better play it safe You'll never know what hard times will come your way We say, where you coming from, we've already Seen the worst that this life can bring Now we expect it everywhere that we go All the things that they say Yeah we already know I just wanna live Don't really care about the things that they say... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NA NA HEY HEY KISS HIM GOODBYE (Secret Track. Only available in Challenge Mode) By Gary De Carlo, Dale Frashuer and Paul Leka (Lyrics for this song coming very soon!) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 ******************************************************************************* 8) DIXIE'S NOTES ******************************************************************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 A new addition to Donkey Konga 2 is Dixie's Notes, a rather silly feature where Dixie Kong appears after you've cleared a track, and offers you her advice. You can view all the Dixie's notes that you've received in the Hall of Records, but I've decided to list them all here. Why? For completion, basically. I want to contain everything about DK2 in this guide, and sadly Dixie's Notes are part of that. I've not yet received EVERY note, but I'm getting there, and I'll add the others as I receive them. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh. SOME of the notes are actually slightly useful, and give you some good tips. Others are...well, you'll see for yourself... (I've not yet received EVERY note, but I'm getting there, and I'll add the others as I receive them.) (3) You've gotten all of the Gorilla arrangements! If you master all of them, you might just become a better drummer than I am! And you know what? Now, you can challenge the Full Set! (5) Congratulations! You've earned gold DKs on all of the solo Gorilla arrangemets. Could it be? Is it possible? Could you really be...better than me!? Madness! utter madness! (8) Congratulations! You've earned gold DKs on all of the solo Chimp arrangements! I don't want to bring you down, but I honestly didn't think you had it in you! (11) Congratulations! You've earned gold DKs on all of the solo Monkey arrangements! I suspect you're probably too good for those songs now. (13) If you've played the song so much you've memorised it, why not try Beat-Mix? You can earn a ton of coins, but the beats change every time you play! (14) Hey, DK and Diddy! As of now, I'd like to announce my career change to professional drummer. Give me a call if you ever need an extra pair of hands! (15) In Street Performance, you get 2 coind for each GREAT and 1 coin for each OK. If the banana fairy casts some magic your way, you'll get 3 coins! (16) The bananas next to the song title indicate that song's difficulty. The more bananas, the harder the tune. Start off with a song with fewer bananas. (17) The more people you have in your concert, the more fun it is. Your synching skills WILL be evaluated, so let's have some teamwork, people! If you play solo in a quartet, you can't synch. (18) Choose a badge that's right for you! The top 3 scores for each song get recorded. You can tell who earned the score by checking out which badge that player used. (19) Once you clear a song in Street Performance, a DK icon will appear next to the song title. Why don't you try clearing them all on Monkey level first? (20) Pink barrel notes require you to hit both drums together, but you can alternate between them on rolls. Try using both hands to drum out left and right rolls, too. It's a lot easier! (21) The Freestyle Zone's kinda freaky if you ask me. Every time you hit a drum, a picture pops up! And the pictures change every 50 hits. I get kinda hooked - I just have to see what's next! (22) Each minigame in the Music Lab costs 50 coins for a single player, but only 100 coins for two, three or four players. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. (23) To adjust the clap sensor sensitivity, you need to visit the Electric Hut. Move the slider to the right so the Clap Sensor picks up only loud noises like claps, and not just background sounds. (24) In the first half of a battle, a POW block appears. Hit it to make your opponent's score drop. Hit it with Great timing to drop your opponents score all the way to zero! That's intense! (25) The top three scores on each tune get saved. I want to make sure my badge appears up there on the top scores for my favourite songs! You feel the same way, right? (26) You know you can't quit in the middle and restart any of the games in the Music Lab, right? So don't give up! Keep drumming all the way to the end. Those games cost money, after all! (27) If you want a duet in Street Performance, but you don't have a partner, give me a call. I'll show you how it's done! You'll only get coins for one player, though, just so you know. (28) You know that last song in Challenge Mode? That's a good song to end on, isn't it? Doesn't it make you feel like tomorrow will be a bright new day? [Refers to the song Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye, which is always the last song in the set in Challenge Mode.] (29) You have 10 badges you can use right from the start. Once you've finished up at the Music Lab, try to Match That Badge to see if you can get all 30 badges. Of course, the only badge that matters is mine! (30) So tell me, what do you like more: hearing the music, or hearing the sound of your own drums? You know, you can adjust the music and sound-effect balance at the Electric Hut! (31) In a Battle, you can tell who's in the lead by looking at the flames on the beaver statues' torches. The torch that's burning brightest is in the lead! (32) Have you been using the "Return to" command to cancel the song or mode you've selected? You know...it's easier just to hold down both drums on your bongos! (33) Share is another mode where everyone can play! If you only ever play by yourself, your synchro rate will never go up! Get someone else to help out, even if it's just on the handclaps! (34) You can choose all kinds of songs in the Freestyle Zone, but the best thing to do is choose "Start Jamming!". Two is better than one, and four is better than two, you know? (35) If you score really high in the Music Lab, then you can take a shot at Match That Badge! this is the place to be if you want to collect badges! (36) Go to Bongos A-Go-Go to buy sound sets, or hit Jungle Jams to buy Gorilla arrangements of each of the songs. They're both in the Shopping Mall! (37) If you clear a song with the Phonograph Gauge at 100%, then your DK award will turn gold! And if you can do THAT, you'll be able to play the totally remixed Beat-Mix! (38) The Banana Fairy appears once every 25 combos, but she'll go away after 10 more combos. Try not to mess up your combo while she's around! (39) I'm sure you already know this, but the more points you earn in minigames, the more shots you'll earn at Match That Badge. (40) So how many of these darned notes have I written, anyway? Well, I think I've got about ten more in me, so I'll try and make 'em good! (41) You know, Quartet is also fun with just 3 or even 2 players! But nothing beats playing it with 4 players! Let's all get some DK Bongos and play our hearts out! (42) I went to play in the Freestyle Zone the other day. I got so hooked that I didn't even notice that I'd played until the sun had gone down! (43) Let me give you a little tip about Challenge mode. Even if you put your rolls off until later, you'll be fine as long as you don't miss any of them. If you do, your gauge will go down! (44) The Rock, Paper, Scissors competition at the end of the battle goes just like that: from rock to paper to scissors. But if you keep playing for too long you might lose. Don't go bananas! (45) You want me to tell you the secret to Rhythm Keeper? Keep the rhythm, my friend! Don't be like Diddy! He starts out slowly, but then he gets faster and faster and starts missing the beats! (46) The Banana Fairy goes away all by herself after 10 combos. If you're really stellar (like me), yo can keep her around for quite a while. Try for more than 150 combos with the fairy! (47) If everyone's together, your synchro rate can go through the roof! Even two meatheads like Diddy and DK can synch up really well! (48) You want to prove you're a master at Rhythm Keeper? Here's a little pro tip: try closing your eyes, like DK does! But don't just ignore the notes and smack the bongo crazy, like he does... (49) Obviously, you can't say you're synched up if you're missing the notes. you've gotta hit those bongos to get in synch. Understand? (50) That's all the advice I've got for you! From now on, you're on your own! I figure you can do it, though! See you later! (51) Psych! Juuuuuuust kidding! I wouldn't just up and quit on ya! I've stll got all sorts of tips lined up for you! We're not done yet! (52) If you choose Random, I'll go ahead and se;ect a song for you. I love when I get to pick the songs! (Especially in Battles!) (53) You want to learn how to master Barrel Race? Here's the thing: just don't get carried away when those notes start falling! If you keep hitting like mad, you're gonna regret it! (54) If you can get those slots to line up in a battle, you're going to earn some serious points, my friend! They tell me the highest score went out to the strange team of Link, Tetra, and Ganondorf. (55) If you've got enough DK coins to buy Gorilla arrangements, then you should be good enough to play them! Go on! Try it! You'll do fine!!! (56) You know, if you're not that good, you should play with anouther person and try to up your synchro rate! Hello! I'm talking to you, DK and Diddy! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 ******************************************************************************* 9) FIN' ******************************************************************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------DK2 That's us, I'm afraid.
