Introduction ############################################################################### Thank you for choosing to read my Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire FAQ. I hope this guide gives you some assistance in using this game's features. Pokemon Box is not a game in the strictest sense. It is really a storage system tool for your Pokemon and, despite its subtitle, is compatible with all the core Gen III games (i.e. Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald). The game's features are similar to those found in Prof. Oak's Lab and Game Boy Tower in the Pokemon Stadium games for the Nintendo 64. Pokemon Box was released on May 30, 2003 in Japan, July 11, 2004 in North America, May 14, 2004 in Europe and July 16, 2004 in Australia. A special edition Ruby/Sapphire Memory Card 59 is included with most versions of the game for the player to use with it (the European version just comes with a normal memory card). ############################################################################### 2. Note: The requirements for using Box with each GBA game are as follows: Ruby/Sapphire ------------- You just need to receive the Hoenn Pokedex and save at a Pokemon Centre. Emerald ------- You must obtain the National Pokedex and save at a Pokemon Centre. FireRed/LeafGreen ----------------- You need to have completed the Pokemon Network Centre's Network Machine on One Island and saved at a Pokemon Centre. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you are at the Title Screen, select 'Go To Pokemon Box' and follow the instructions on the screen. Once the connection is confirmed, you'll be sent to Brigette's Room. There are 4 options (Arrange Boxes, Showcase, Save, and Exit) to choose from. 'Exit' takes you back to the Title Screen. Brigette, the administrator of Pokemon Box, explains that Box is an advanced remake of Hoenn's Pokemon storage system which was created by her sister Lanette. Bridgette figures that you're good at raising Pokemon, so she gives away a Pokemon Egg (she places it in a Memory Box). Check the Misc. Stuff section for more information. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Arrange Boxes =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Here, you can organise and sort your Pokemon. In addition to organising Boxes in a GBA game along with your Party Pokemon (referred to as Advance Boxes), you can organise Boxes in Pokemon Box (referred to as Memory Boxes). Advance Boxes are displayed at the bottom of the screen, while Memory Boxes are shown at the top. The menu interface is easier to navigate than the one in the Pokemon Stadium games (it's similar to that of Landette/Bill's PC in Gen III). Each of the 25 Memory Boxes store up to 60 Pokemon. A total of 1500 Pokemon can be stored on a single Memory Card. Press Y to view a selected Pokemon's number, level and gender. Press X to display the Arrange Boxes Menu. There are 4 options (Grab, Summary, Mark, and Go to List) to choose from. If you click on a Box's name, you can press A to open the Box Menu. There are 3 options (Jump, Wallpaper, and Name) to choose from. Grab ---- You can use this option to grab a Pokemon and move it. You don't have to select 'Grab' to move Pokemon, though. If you hold down A and drag the cursor, you can grab and move multiple Pokemon. By using this feature, you can deposit Pokemon in a Memory Box and then give them to friends without having to trade. You can also transfer a lot of Pokemon between cartridges with ease. This is useful for filling up a Pokedex or putting specific Pokemon all together in one place. If you store all the Pokemon that you've collected in Memory Boxes, you can start your GBA game over from the beginning without losing any Pokemon. If you drag a Pokemon onto another one, they will swap positions. Summary ------- You can use this option to view detailed information about Pokemon such as Stats and Moves (you can't view descriptions of moves or re-order them, though). This info is useful if your GBA game doesn't contain data on Contest Conditions/Moves (specifically FireRed/LeafGreen) or you don't like having to check your PokeNav to see those stats. Mark ---- You can use this option to put Marks on Pokemon. If you put a Mark on a Pokemon, you can gather together Pokemon with the same Mark to make finding them much easier. Go to List ---------- You can use this option to sort Pokemon in your Memory Boxes and Advance Boxes. If you have a lot of Pokemon, this is useful for finding, checking and comparing specific Pokemon more easily. The sort criteria consists of Type, Level, Gender, Move, Ability, Mark, Friendship, Area, Nature, etc. If you click on Pokemon, you can also sort in Alphabetical Mode, Pokedex Mode or select which Pokemon will be listed. If you click on a Pokemon's name, you can sort by the same kind of Pokemon (eg. Staryu), Pokemon of the same type or search for the Pokemon as well. Jump ---- You can use this option to jump to a specific Box without having to switch the screen multiple times. Wallpaper --------- You can use this option to change the wallpaper of a Memory Box. Name ---- You can use this option to name a Box. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Showcase =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Here, you can display Pokemon from your Memory Boxes on a Showcase stage in the form of pieces. When you have decided where to put a Pokemon, choose 'Place Piece' and press X. Position the cursor on the Pokemon and grab it to turn it into a piece. If you hold down A and drag the cursor, you can turn multiple Pokemon into pieces. If you select 'Edit Stage', you can do just that (i.e. change the pattern, background, piece, music or name). If you select 'Check Stage', you can view a stage from different angles. Up to five stages can be saved. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Save =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Here, you can save any changes made to the following: *Memory Boxes *Advance Boxes *Showcase *Pictures *Wallpaper Note: The game never asks if you want to save, so don't forget to do so! =============================================================================== 3.03 - GO TO ADVENTURE =============================================================================== Note1: You can only go to Adventure with Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire. Note2: You can't use multiplayer functions such as trading and battling in Adventure. Note3: If you have taken a new picture in Adventure, make sure you save your GBA game at a Pokemon Centre before quitting, as you won't be able to save the picture otherwise. When you are at the Title Screen, select 'Go To Adventure' and follow the instructions on the screen. Once the connection is confirmed, you'll be able to play Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire on the television (similar to the Game Boy Player). If you want to stop playing the game, press Z and select 'Quit'. ############################################################################### 4. Misc. Stuff ############################################################################### This section lists the stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else in the FAQ. =============================================================================== 4.01 - BONUS EGGS =============================================================================== When you store a certain amount of Pokemon from one cartridge in Box, Brigette will give you a Pokemon Egg and place it in a Memory Box. These Pokemon hatch with a Special Move that the Pokemon wouldn't normally be able to learn. The Special Moves can't be taught to other Pokemon via breeding. When you first start the game, you receive a Swablu that knows False Swipe. After storing 100 Pokemon, you get a Zigzagoon with Extremespeed. When 500 Pokemon are stored, you obtain a Skitty with Pay Day. Upon storing 1499 Pokemon, you acquire a Pichu with Surf. If you have more than 1 cartridge or start your GBA game over from the beginning, you can get multiple eggs. Swablu is the best of the bunch because a) You can get it straight away. b) It's a useful Pokemon early on in Ruby/Sapphire and even later on. c) It has decent stats, and d) It can use False Swipe to weaken wild Pokemon with ease. In my opinion, Pichu isn't worth it, as getting it is more of a chore than a bonus and it can't be transferred to Gen IV without losing Surf anyway. =============================================================================== 4.02 - TAKE PICTURES =============================================================================== When you are playing Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire in Adventure, press Z and select 'Take Pictures' to do just that (i.e. take screenshots). Cool. What's inside the frame will be the picture. The picture you took can be used for the wallpaper in the Memory Boxes (Note: Only one picture can be taken at a time). Once the picture is registered, 'My Wallpaper' will be added to the Special category of the Wallpaper section. If you go to Brigette's Room, you also take pictures of the Arrange Boxes and Showcase screens in the same manner. ############################################################################### 5. Frequently Asked Questions ############################################################################### Q: Can I transfer Pokemon from Colosseum/XD? A: Not directly. They must be traded to a GBA game first and then transferred to Box. Q: In what numerical order can I sort Pokemon by in Pokedex Mode? A: If you have the National Dex or a game with it is used with Box, you can sort Pokemon by their national edition numbers but not their Kanto or Hoenn region ones. If you just have the Hoenn Dex, you can sort Pokemon by their Hoenn region numbers but not their national edition ones. Q: Is it possible to store non-regional Pokemon from Ruby or Sapphire without having acquired the National Pokedex? A: Yes, though their Pokedex numbers won’t be displayed. If you sort your Pokemon in Pokedex Mode, the non-regional ones will be listed at the bottom. If a game with the Dex is used with Box, Box’s Pokedex Mode will be upgraded to the National Mode so non-regional Pokedex numbers will be displayed from then on, regardless of whether a Ruby or Sapphire game has the Nat Dex or not. Q: Where can I purchase Box? A: In Europe, limited quantities were available from the Stars Catalogue on Nintendo of Europe's website (it cost 4000 star points) or as part of a GameCube bundle called the Pokemon Colosseum Mega Pak. The European version comes with a Memory Card 59. In Australia, you could purchase Pokemon Box in stores for $50. The Australian version comes with a Memory Card 59 and GC GBA cable. Source: David M In North America, it was available in limited quantities for $19.99 in the New York Pokemon Centre or from Pokemoncenter.com. The American version comes with the same stuff as the Australian one. In Japan, it was sold in two packages, one cost 2000 Yen with a Memory Card and the other one cost 2800 Yen with a Memory Card and GC GBA cable. Source: http://www.serebii.net/pokemon_box/ However, Box is no longer available in the above regions. Your best bet is to buy the game used from Amazon.com or its international websites. Q: Is this game compatible with Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal? A: No. This game is ONLY compatible with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/ LeafGreen. Q: Can I use any Memory Card with Box? A: Yes, aside from the Japanese version. Source: http://www.serebii.net/pokemon_box/ Q: When I deposit a Pokemon in a Memory Box, I can't withdraw it. Why? Only the Trainer who deposited a Pokemon or the OT (Original Trainer) with the same ID number of a Pokemon can withdraw it initially. If you're not one of the above two, your Pokedex must have registered at least 100 Pokemon. gamer424242 said your Pokedex entry count doesn't increase if you trade non-regional Pokemon into Ruby or Sapphire if you don't have the Nat Dex yet. Q: Can Pokemon, such as Kadabra and Haunter, evolve if they are stored in Box? A: No. This is considered a transfer and not a trade, so these Pokemon will not evolve when transferred. Q: Can I move/clone my Box save file? A: No. This is to prevent players from cloning Pokemon. Q: I transferred [number of Pokemon] to Box, but I didn't get [name of Pokemon]. Why? A: The Original Trainer must transfer [number of Pokemon] from the same cartridge to get [name of Pokemon]. You don't have to own 100-1499 Pokemon with the same ID number, though. Therefore, you can transfer Pokemon from multiple GBA games to one game and then move them to Box. Since you can't have 1499 Pokemon in one Game Pak at once, you can only transfer 426 Pokemon at a time, so you can't use this trick to get Skitty or Pichu instantly. Q: How many blocks of a Memory Card are required to create a save file? A: 59. Yep, takes up a whole normal memory card. Q: Can Pokemon receive boosted Exp. Points if transferred to another game? A: Yes. Q: Can the happiness of Pokemon be reset by using Box? A: Yes. If you deposit a happy Pokemon in a Memory Box and a different Trainer withdraws it, the happiness will be reset. For example, if you trade a happy Blissey from LeafGreen to Emerald via Box, its happiness will be reset. Source: Exiledfromreality Q: Is linking GBA games with Box region locked? A: No. It is language-locked. Both the Box disc and GBA cart must be of the same language. For example, an American cart will work on a UK Box and a UK cart will work on an American Box, but a Japanese cart won't work on a UK/ American Box. Source: Super Creatures However, it doesn't matter which region the GameCube or GBA themselves are. You'll need a mod (certain boot discs might work too) if your Box disc and GC system don't match. Source: theclaw2 Q: I can't deposit a Party Pokemon. Why? A: You can't deposit a Party Pokemon under the following circumstances: 1) You only have 1 Pokemon in your party. 2) A Pokemon is holding Mail. 3) After storing a Pokemon, only an Egg would be left in your party. 4) You only have fainted Pokemon in your party. Q: Can I play Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen in Adventure? A: No. This is due to the fact that Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen were unavailable at the time of Box's creation, so the game only contains data for Ruby/ Sapphire. If you try to play them in Adventure, the game will say "You can't go to Adventure with this Game Pak." Q: Can I get multiple [name of Pokemon] Eggs by depositing [number of Pokemon], withdrawing them and storing them again? A: No. You can only get 1 of each egg per GBA game save file. Q: What features from the Pokemon Stadium games aren't in Box? A: *Item storage (you can give items to your Pokemon, though) *3D Pokedex *Trading *Doduo/Dodrio Mode *Move/item descriptions *Re-order/Exchange Boxes *Release Pokemon Q: How do I give Pokemon to friends? A: Since only 1 cartridge can be used at a time, do the following steps: 1) Go back to the Title Screen of Box. 2) Make sure your GBA is turned off. 3) Remove your cartridge from the GBA and insert your friend's one. 4) Select 'Go To Pokemon Box' to confirm your friend's cartridge, allowing him/her to take any Pokemon from a Memory Box. Q: Can I move items held by Pokemon in Box? A: No. Q: Is there a limit to how many games can be used with Box? A: No. Q: Why is the American version of Box so expensive nowadays? A: It was only available in limited quantities in the New York Pokemon Centre or from Pokemoncenter.com. It's so expensive because demand for the game is high and new copies aren't being made. Q: Any tips on filling up the Memory Boxes? A: The easiest way is to hatch a lot of Pokemon Eggs and store them all in Box. Best done with breeding rejects. If you have Emerald, a Pokemon with the Flame Body or Magma Armor ability will halve the number of steps needed to hatch eggs if it's in your party, making this process less tedious. You could also try using Emerald cloning glitch to clone a lot of Pokemon. Q: Are there any requirements for using Adventure? A: No. ############################################################################### 6.
