------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phantasy Star Online Keyboard/Lobby Animation FAQ NOTE: This is the plain text version. If you want pictures of every animation, then go to http://members.lycos.co.uk/c11t/keyboard/ All together, It is just over 300KB in size. Standard Legal Stuff This is copyright 2002 Christopher Turnbull - please do not rip if off. If you want to contact me, do so at any of the message boards I got to. My own (http://www.gaminggeneration.2ya.com) would be preferable, although it's a little dead. If you want to use this informtaion on your own site, then: 1. Keep everything as it is, including this disclaimer. 2. Give me credit - I did write this thing you know. 3. If you use the version with the pictures, please host the pictures yourself, this a) helps keep my bandwidth down, b) makes thing easier for you if I ever need to change my urls, and c) means that if you put this page in the same directory as the pictures, you won't have to edit the html. 4. It would be nice if you could keep the link to my board intact. 5. Do not put this page in a subscriber-only section, or otherwise charge people to look at it. 6. Ask me first! It's only polite, I'm known as c11t on ezboards so try and find me there. Update: I know it's irritating submitting an FAQ, then changing it a few days later, but there's a big mistake in the controls bellow that I should point out. Those controls work for female charecters, but male charecters have to press shift at alternate times. This is because half of the animations are for females, and half are for male charecters. If you press shift, you can do the alternate gender's animations. Oh, and a word of warning - the girls can do the male animations, and not look too out of place, but when a male charecter tries some of the female animations, it looks just weird o_O. Intro No, sorry, I can't tell you where to find a keyboard. (Well, unless you come from the UK, in which case I got mine from jpngames.) But I can tell you how to use it. The main use of the keyboard is, obviously, typing in text. If you are serious about PSO, you'll need a keyboard. You can play without one, but talking to people is the best part of PSO. In the DC version, many people used it solely as a massive internet chat room :) Rather than holding two controlers, contray to what most people say, I'd actually recommend using the controls on the keyboard to play. You just have to get used to using the C-stick for menus and the Z-button for pausing. It's better than holding two controlers ;) Only problem is, this makes it harder to type and run at the same time, because to type properly you'll probably need both hands. Having a keyboard also gives you 12 more chat shortcuts by pressing the F keys. ("F keys" stands for "function keys", but because there's another button called function which does different things, I'll just call them "F keys".) This works exactly the same way as the shortcuts on the d-pad, and needs no further explaination. Menu Shortcuts Wouldn't it be nice, if rather than having to go through the whole menu each time to get to a screen, there was a quick shortcut to each submenu... Well, this is another advantage of having a keyboard. Here's a few shortcuts: Shift F5 - Simple Mail Menu Shift F6 - Chat Log Shift F7 - Guild Card Shift F8 - I don't think this does anything Shift F9 - Mag menu Shift F10 - Area Map Shift F11 - Items Shift F12 - Customise menu Note that they won't work if you could get to that menu normally. Eg, you can't use the area map in the lobby, or look at simple mail when offline. Lobby Animations In the DC version, Sonic Team put in a few animations (mostly borrowed from other parts of the game) that you could do in the lobby. There was about 12, if I remember rightly. Well, they've been massively improved now. There's around 90! To do an animation, just press the relivant key combination. Note that you can only do these in the lobbies - not when in a game! If you shudder at the thought of memorising all of these, (then congratulations - you are a normal human being!) I'd recommending trying a few out and remembering your favourites. Or follow my brother's tatic, and printing out a list with the keystrokes. These have been tested with a female (FOnewearl to be presise). Male charecters must press shift at the other times. Note that if Caps Lock is on or off makes no difference. Any key-stroke not mentioned either does nothing or is identicle to a simpler keystroke.
