Magnus Location Faq

This is a faq born of frustration. The first time I tried to get all the
magnus, I missed the Cypress Creel for Gibari. The second time, Xehla didn't
have a camera for Naiad (and I'd already saved over my file), and the last
time, about a month ago, I had 1000 magnus and was just filling in the empty
spots when I found I could no longer get the Sun Anklet. So, that's where
this came from. I have used most of the faqs on this game at one time or
another, but special thanks to theWilse for the Aging Magnus faq, Fei Hong
for the One Chance and Constellation faqs, sabin01 for the Equipment faq,
exarkunnn for the sidequest faq, Yami Shuryou for his walkthrough, and
Badaro for the Magnus List. Extra special thanks to Daredevil3181 for

A few things to remember:
There are spoilers in this faq - not many, but some necessarily because
it lists all the bosses. I would recommend having finished the game at least
once before you try getting all the magnus anyway.
I have not attempted to list every location for every magnus - just enough to
get what you need with a little deck building on the side now and again. If
you think I missed something important, feel free to email and let me know at

In this game, you don't have to own a magnus for it to go into the gathering.
All you must do is see it, so be sure to check out those shops even if you're
not buying.
Give Xelha a camera when you get to Alfard even if she's not in your party
and leave it in her deck. She will be on her own for a while and she MUST
have a camera for a boss fight.
There are two unique fights in the game where the deck is blind; you
choose cards to match the enemy's. There are cameras in these decks. You MUST
get pictures of the Ice Goddess of Wazn and the Wizard Shadow at the bottom
of Zozma Tower. If you miss the pictures, you'll have to do the fights again.
Be sure to save before these fights in case you miss the cameras.
IMPORTANT: I am including a section at the bottom where I list the one-chance
items in order; I would suggest you familiarize yourself with the list and
check it now and again as you go along.
SUPER IMPORTANT: When aging magnus, be careful not to leave your Gamecube on
too soon. For a magnus to be added to the gathering, YOU MUST SEE IT, so if
you leave your system on all night to age your magnus and a magnus has more
than one evolution, you'll skip a step because you didn't see it. It is very
important on one-of-a-kind items like the auras and the magical piggy bank to
see each evolution, so don't start any hardcore aging until those items are
complete. Many thanks to xylophone2 on the boards for this explanation.
Phantom Goldoba - this is a one-time only dungeon, so make sure to get every
chest. Start in the lower right room and work your way around room by room.
Be sure to get a picture of the Master Revenant. They only sell for one gil
each, so you only need one. Walk into the blue orbs to fight them; these don't
respawn. Don't forget the boss picture either.
Don't get rid of any magnus unless you're SURE it isn't needed to evolve into
something else or needed for a recipe.
Rotating Magnus - these are magnus that change at given intervals, so they're
always changing. The Green Light, for example, will change from Green to
Yellow to Red, back to Green...forever.
Evolving Magnus - these are magnus that change into something else after a
given amount of time. They differ from rotating magnus in that once they've
evolved, they will never return to the original. I do not list the times
required for evolving magnus, but keep in mind that some of these things take
a very long time (72 hours for Peach Boy to turn into Wonder Momo, for
instance - not so long compared to Shampoo...). Check out the Aging Magnus
Faq by theWilse for specifics on the time required for a particular magnus.
Recipes - These are combos performed in battle when you use magnus in
particular combinations to create new magnus; they must usually be done in
the order listed to work. You also must not combine them with any other
magnus that turn for the new magnus to be made. If you want a Paper Fan, for
example, you must use Young Bamboo, Rice Paste, and Rice Paper in that exact
order and no other magnus that turn to get it. All the recipes are from
Daredevil3181's excellent Combo Faq. I have not listed all of the combos -
only those required for magnus that can't be found any other way. To complete
the combo section of your gathering, check his faq. If you want to use
non-Magic users, you can often substitute Mineral Water for Aqua Burst and
Large Fire for Fire Burst.
Photos -
Boss photos - you get one shot at these (with the exception of Giacomo, Ayme,
and Folon), so don't miss them! Remember, if there are two bosses in a fight,
you must get them both. I will not list in the missable section all the boss
photos. Just remember that you must get all their pictures or you can't get
all the magnus.
Limited time enemies are just that - around for a short time - and should be
treated just like bosses.
Regular photos can be done anytime. If you miss one, you can go back for it.
Drops - monsters in this game can drop many different items, so it's a good
idea to hang around and fight for a while when you get to a new place. If
there's a question mark (?), that means I'm not sure which monster dropped
it. Some enemies only show up with others (like shellfish and devilish hands
at Detourne), so I'm not positive which dropped it.

Speak to the teacher and maid after the children are there;
leave and return and speak them again until the teacher
is lying in the floor and the children are everywhere (I
had to enter three times). Speak to the maid then to each
of the children. Bring them what they ask for: Picture
Book, Snow, Roasted Bird, Pow Milk. After you've given them
what they requested, leave and return one more time. Speak
to the grateful maid to get this fists. I'm not sure when
this sidequest becomes available, but I left Cor Hydrae to

*A note about yells:
Yells degrade over time. It takes a while, but an Aqua Yell III will
degrade to an II and eventually back to a I. Since the higher level yells
must all be made via combos, I would recommend waiting until you have the
necessary ingredients (like the Swan for Wind Yell IV) before you start
making yells. If you make all your level III's before you have that last
ingredient, you may end up doing them all again, which is a royal pain in
the butt (trust me - I found out the hard way).

*Xelha only - I got these chests with Xelha while she was alone in the
Imperial Palace. I'm assuming they would still be there later, but as I
didn't wait, I can't say for sure.
One-Chance Items
I have put this list together primarily from the Once Chance faq and
the Euipment faq plus just having played...a lot. There are a couple that
I'm not sure are one chance, but I'll list them just in case. I am not going
to list all the boss photos; you know by now to never kill a boss until
you've taken its picture.
I am not including items like the Magical Piggy Bank or the class-up items
on this list. While they are one of a kind, they're not missable. In other
words, you will have chances to go back for them. Other one-of-a-kinds like
the Maple Leaf cannot be missed (it's a star map prize). Just remember not
not to let them go until they're completely evolved.
**IMPORTANT**
Some items like the Auras are one-time only then they evolve. You MUST see
each of the evolutions or they will not appear in your Magnus Gathering, so
check your magnus now and again. DO NOT leave the Gamecube on all night to
age your magnus until you're done with the Auras because you risk skipping
some levels. I had Beef (Good) skip straight to Beef (Best) and had no idea
why until I saw this explanation here on the Gamefaqs boards. Many thanks
to xylophone2 for this valuable information. You've got to see the middle
evolution of the Magical Piggy Bank, too.
Remember, too, that there is only one of each secret receipe in the game, so
DO NOT get rid of them until you've made Secret Recipe #10.
1. Cebalrai - Calm Winds Anklet
Cebalrai Village: speak to the girl milking the pow in the barn. After you've
been to Pherkad, go back and tell her you liked it and she'll give you the
anklet.
2. Cebalrai - Shampoo
Speak to Maynee at the entrance of Cebalrai to learn that her husband's
gone missing. Agree to help her, and she'll give you her pendant. When you
get to Rodolfo's Mansion, you'll find Aljeemo locked up in there. Set him
free and give him the pendant. He'll give you a magnus. Return to Cebalrai
and speak to his wife to get Shampoo. If you forget to return, she'll be
there and you can get it later as long as you agreed to help her initially.
It's better to get it now, however, because this item must be aged for two
weeks to turn into the magnus Splendid Hair, so you might as well get
started. Shampoo is also available much later in the game, but only
temporarily, so get it now.
3. Nunki Valley - Nunkirantula
The spider Palolo sends you after is a one-time only - get the photo.
4. Rodolfo's Mansion - get photo of Imperial Soldier
5. Lesser Celestial River - Thunderfish
After you defeat the Thunderfish, walk up to its skull twice (two different
locations) and choose the option "Let it drift" to be able to get to
the Heron Statue chest in the first screen, but once you can get to the
chest, don't bother the Thunderfish again. This is a one-time only quest
magnus. Once you take it, it's gone for good. You will need it much, much
later in the game, so leave it here for now and come back for it later.
Again, DO NOT take the Thunderfish right now or you'll have to carry it for
ages.
6. Diadem Castle - All six Auras
You will be asked to help the knights fighting the enemy in the castle.
You'll start with four knights (one Senior Knight, one regular, one
apprentice, and one squire) that you will distribute as you go. Keep in mind
that you can always get more knights in a bedroom on the left side of the
castle near the top. Show a knight in the room the royal crest for him to
join you. Black knights are twice as strong as red (the equivalent of your
senior knights), so use knights accordingly. You MUST get all six auras here
because it's the only place they can be acquired and all will evolve through
six levels for a total of thirty-six magnus from this one sidequest. While
you're at it, you can check all the paintings; you'll pick up a couple extra
magnus this way. Save at the red flower at the bottom as soon as possible
in case you mess up. When you distribute knights, the enemy knights must
fall down and disappear or it didn't work. If Gibari says, "They'll be fine
now" and they keep fighting, do it again.
7. Diadem Castle - Imperial Elite and Imperial Blackhelm photos
You will get a couple of chances at the red soldiers but only one at the
black, so make sure you get his picture before you kill him.
8. Diadem Castle - Cypress Creel
After you've defeated Iron Beetle V, be sure to speak to the soldier in the
throne room near the exit to the Wind Shrine. He has a shop that includes
the Cypress Creel. Remember, you don't have to buy it, just see it. At only
350, it's a good buy though. :)
9. Diadem Castle - Glass Earrings
After the battle is over in the castle, help the knights clean up both
the east and west wings then talk to the head knight. Not sure if this is
one-time only, but you might as well do it now. It can be done as soon as
you've finished at the Wind Shrine.
10. Celestial Tree - Boss Photos
At the Celestial Tree, be sure to take pictures of BOTH the Tree Guardian
and a Tentacle.
11. Trail of Souls - Zelmer, Ghost Claws, Ghost Cap, Secret Recipe 4
I hate this place... That, of course, is irrelevant, isn't it? Anyway, you
must get four items here that cannot be found anywhere else. After you've
finished with the Goldoba, go outside to meet Mizuti. Now save. Speak to
Xelha inside to get started. Other faqs tell you how this places works, so I
won't go into all that. Just remember, if you fall far enough behind that you
can't see Mizuti, you'll start again from the beginning. Use that to your
advantage. You must get photos of the Zelmer and Devil Claws. A Zelmer must
also drop a Frost Cap. Fight as many of these enemies as you wish (they drop
pretty good stuff), making sure to get the three items mentioned. I let
Mizuti run ahead of me here and pick up a few things then try to get all
the magnus in the next round. The only magnus you MUST get is the last one -
Secret Recipe 4. The Camera 2 in the 11th wave is really nice, too - lots of
prizes here, but that Secret Recipe is the one you must get for your magnus
gathering. If you don't have all four of the items when you're done, you'll
have to do it again. Don't forget a photo of the boss here either.
12. Mintaka - Secret Recipe #6
Search the second spike just above Melodia's airship as soon as you arrive
in Mintaka. Look for the exclamation point. The door through is right behind
the guy with the bracelet.
13. Mintaka - Limited-time Pictures
Imperial Guard and Elite Imperial Guard - these guys appear after you go to
Lyude's house. They respawn so you can take as much time as you need here,
but once you leave, they're gone for good, so be sure to get their pictures.
14. Goldoba - Limited-time Picture
This is the only time you can get the Imperial Walker, so don't forget its
photo. It respawns, so you have plenty of chances; just get it before you go.
**Give Xelha a camera before the boss in the Lava Caves. NOW!! NOW!!
15. Azha - Platinum Buckle
Give a hot rock to the daughter of the old woman with a backache then talk
to the old woman; you must do this before Azha evacuates, so go ahead and
do it now. Just fight monsters while lava cools into hot rock.
**Give Xelha a camera before the boss in the Lava Caves. NOW!! NOW!!
16. Azha - Mephistopheles Cloak and Secret Recipe 7
Three little kids will follow you around constantly in Azha either asking
you for magnus or telling you they're starving. Give them a total of twenty-
one quest magnus (I just run back and forth with lava but sparkling snow
would work, too) then speak to the guy sitting on the ground by the lava
caves to receive these two items.
**Did you give Xehla a camera?
17. Interdemensional Crack - Photo of Naiad
The Interndemensional Cracks are located at all the places where you got the
End Magnus. There's nothing at the one in Sadal Suud, but it will close if
you go there (it closes on its own if you leave it until last if you want to
skip that one). Each must be opened with whatever that place is famous for:
Anuenue: Celestial Flower Seed (a Celestial bud or flower will work) - Savyna
Diadem: Cloud from the Cloud machine - Gabari
Alfard: Lava - Lyude
Mira: Mirage Weed - Mizuti
It doesn't matter what order you do them in (just depends on which characters
you want first); Naiad will always be first and Xelha must have a camera and
get its picture. The other three bosses must be photographed, too, of course,
but you should have more cameras available as you pick up your people.
**You have a brief time while you're going back and forth between
the Interdemensional Cracks to go wherever you wish, so get some running
around done while you can. I would recommend that you go see Quzman and
pick up a Terrible Picture. Take it to Reverence in Mira to send Misjah to
Quzman's. Now go back and get another Terrible Picture and have her sign it.
It will turn into an Unpopular Picture, which takes forty hours to evolve
into the Treasured Painting, so you might want to get that started. Just a
suggestion. :)
18. Mintaka - Girls Thoughts
Go back to Scalla's house and look at her diary. You can now get Girls
Thoughts. You must have these to get into the back room in Azha, and this must
be done before the town evacuates to the Nihal Desert. There's nothing urgent
here, but if you want to do all the sidequests, you'll have to do this now.
The Girls Thoughts will continue to be there for the rest of the game.
19. Anuenue - Sagitta and Fairy Barrette
Go to Sadal Suud and get some Pow Milk. Let it age to Pow Milk Yogurt and
take it to the guard in Corellia's Palace who missed the festival. He's on
the far left of the first room in the palace. He'll thank you and give you
Sagitta for the Star Map and tell you to come back later for something better.
Come back AFTER you've been to the Celestial Alps for the Fairy Barrette.
20. Wazn - Warrior's Memories
DO NOT give the Warrior's Mementos to the widows of Gram and Leon. You must
wait until they've evolved into Warrior's Memories (fifty hours). Since you
should have all the Auras by now and the Magical Piggy Bank should be done
evolving, it should be safe to leave the Gamecube on overnight at this point
if you want to or come back later.
21. Wazn - Ice Goddess Picture
When Xelha goes down for the Ocean Mirror, you must get a picture of the
Ice Goddess. If you defeat her before you find the camera in the deck, do it
again.
**If you missed anything in Azha earlier, they're all still here after you
have finished the Imperial Palace. This is your last chance...
22. Zosma Tower - Agyo and Ungyo
Make sure to take pictures of BOTH bosses here. As soon as you're done with
this boss fight, put Mizuti in your party and make sure you have ALL of your
cameras equipped. Save your game before you head to the top of the tower.
Although there is a scene with Mizuti in Algorab, she will not automatically
be part of your party, so put her in.
23. Algorab Village - Maskless Mizuti and Mega Rare Mizuti
Mizuti must be in your party for the fight with Malpercio; it's your only
chance to get these two pictures of her. Don't forget a picture of the boss
while you're at it.
24. Gemma Village - Sun Anklet
When your fight with Malpercio is over, you'll find yourself in Gemma.
After you receive the Broken Heaven Sword, go out and speak to the person
standing on the steps on the far left. He'll give you the Sun Anklet. Get it
now because he'll be gone later.
25. Celestial Alps - Giacomo, Ayme, and Folon
After you've been to see Larikush, the Celestial Alps become available. If
you do not have photos of Giacomo, Ayme, and/or Folon, this is your last
chance to get them.
*Once you're done with the Celestial Alps, you'll finally be able to travel
at will. Sidequests for each of the characters' final Class Up become
available now; which order you do them in is up to you, so they may not be
in the same order below.
26. Komo Mai - Fairy Barrette
When you're done with the Celestial Alps, you'll be back in Komo Mai. Go see
the soldier you gave Pow Yogurt to so long ago, and he'll give you Savyna's
Fairy Barrette now.
27. Mira - Broken Birdie
Speak to the Librarian at Duke Calbren's Manor, and he'll ask you to find
new exhibits. Take him the Thunderfish that you left at the Lesser Celestial
River so long ago, a Delinquency Stone, a Golden Pickax, and an Adventure
Novel.
28. Phantom Goldoba (appears when you fly to Mira after Celestial Alps)
There are several items here that cannot be found elsewhere. You'll start
out in a room with a chest. There are chests in both the bunk rooms at the
top corners. Be sure to get them before you go to the lower left room (where
the red save was on the original Goldoba). There are three chests in there
and once you leave this room, the boss will show up, so get the chests and
a picture of a Master Revenant before you go in that room. The enemies here
DO NOT respawn, so get that picture (and the boss, too).
29. Nihal Desert - Shampoo
If you missed getting Shampoo from Maynee early in the game, you can get it
now from the same guy who rewarded you for helping out the kids in Azha.
The shop here, however, is temporary. As soon as you beat the boss in
Nihal Desert, he will be gone with everyone else, so get it now if you
need it. He's set up in the back of the cave.
30. ***Zosma Tower - Wizard Shadow
Just like the Ice Goddess of Wazn, you must draw a camera in Mizuti's fight
to get this picture. If you finish without it, do it again. Be sure to save
on B4 of Zosma Tower before you take on the boss. It's an easy fight; just
get that photo!
