(You also can choose "Exit" to do something else.) We'll start with Practice mode. When you pick Practice, you'll first need to select a character you wish to fight with. Press A to confirm your choice, then pick your opponent. Note that this opponent cannot also be your character. After picking the CPU, you need to pick either Fight! or Training. The former makes it more like what you'll experience in the tournament; Training makes your opponent a fleshy punching bag that will only defend your attacks and not fight back. You then pick whether you play three or one match(es), then you opt to play or back out to the Practice/Tournament screen. After you play your match(es), you can either choose to Continue and will go back to the Player Select screen, or Exit to return to the Practice/Tournament screen. If you picked the Tournament, you'll pick the fighter you use for the whole tournament. You'll then confirm your choice to enter the tournament, or exit to return to the Practice/Tournament screen. In the Tournament, each round you fight consists of three matches. Whosoever wins two of them will win the round. You'll continue through the tournament so long as you keep winning. If you lose, you'll need to use one of your two continues to retry that fight you lost. Note that the use of a continue will lower you end-tournament ranking. ------ Versus ------ For this, you'll need two GameBoys (or acceptible substitutes), two Raging Fighter game cartridges, and one GameBoy Link Cable. When connected, turn the consoles on and have both players select "Versus" from the main menu. Each player will be shown who is Player 1 and Player 2. Both will choose their chosen fighter. Player 1 will then opt to play with or without the timer, then whether one or three matches will be played. Then select "OK" to begin. The matches are your basic head-on-head matches outlined in section five. The first to get KO'ed loses. If time runs out before such, the one with the most damage loses. If the damage is the same, the match is a draw. ----- Story ----- "For 7 millennia, the people of Alpha Universe have relied on a select group of martial arts masters to defend themselves against foreign foes. In order to keep the members in prime fighting condition, the group, known as the Omega League, conducts an annual tournament in Trial Tower. (The tower, now used exclusively for training, remains a shrine to the commoners of Alpha Universe, for it was on that site that the [Omega] League was first called into action against an invasion force from MAX-4.) If you are successful enough from the start, you must also fight your own alter ego; a true test of dominance, eh? The place of this battle supreme is bragging rights to the title 'Mightiest Mortal'. (Although the Justice Tribunal also looks at it as an opportunity to weed out those fighters who may be losing their edge.)" -- "Raging Fighter", game manual © 1993 Konami Prior to each match, you'll see the area. There will be a straight line of the fighters you'll soon end up fighting. On the jagged hills nearby to the left, you'll find your three fighters that you'll use. Those coming from the tower will arrive at the fighter of your nearest the Trial Tower. This match, like all of those in Story Mode, will consist of one fight without being timed. Therefore, the one who knocks out their opponent will win, and there is no middle ground there. If you lose, your next fighter will take on the fighter that just beat you (your opponent will retain his health bar from match to match). If you win, you'll fight the next fighter, also retaining your health bar from the previous match. If you beat all of the fighters, you'll then take on your alter ego (i.e. yourself) in a winner-take-all match. ------- Options ------- ~~ Trigger Type: This will affect fighting controls. See sections six and seven for further details. ~~ Difficulty: Affects how difficult fights are. As this gauge fills up, it seems to make fights more difficult. ~~ Timer Set: If you opt to use the 99-second timer, then whosoever has taken less damage at the end of the time interval will win. Note that you or your opponent can be KO'ed still for the other player to win. ~~ Sound Test: Listen to one of the twenty-four background music tracks of the game. ~~ Exit: Return to the main menu. At the bottom of the screen, you'll also see the rankings to date for the 1-Player Tournament mode. From best to worst, the rankings are "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", and "G". =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Five: Playing the Game **FIGHT_5** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= This is a simplistic section suggesting the progression of each fighting match and some pertinent details. If you're looking for fighting moves and such, go down to the next two sections. First, look at the bottom of the screen. On the left, you have Player 1's character name, above which is their health bar. It will decrease as Player 1 takes hits. In the middle, you'll find the timer if it is active. To the right, Player 2 or the CPU's character name and health bar, similarly laid out to Player 1's and with similar functions. The fight itself will be non-stop. There is no pausing in this game (a big flaw, in my opinion). In each fight, your goal is to win. To win, you will have to KO your opponent by knocking away all of their health. If you opted to use the timer, you can also win by having more health at the end of the 99-second interval. You will lose by losing all of your health or, if applicable, having less health at the end of the 99-second interval. A draw can only occur if both players have the same amount of health at the end of the time interval, a rare occurence. Fighting itself cannot be easily described. The strategy has to be developed by the player. You can find compiled lists of known moves in the following two sections. Also note that each character has weaknesses and strengths you can play to your advantage. See section seven for those. Finally, once the fight ends, you'll play to the rules of the chosen mode and settings as to whether another is played or not and how you progress from one to the next. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Six: Basic Fighting Moves **FIGHT_6** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Note that "->" indicates the two buttons should be pressed in consecutive order. "+" will indicate that two buttons need to be pressed simultaneously. Options within parentheses () indicate that they are optional. This whole section will assume Trigger 1 settings. If using Trigger 2, convert the A Button to the B Button, and vice versa. This whole section also assumes your character is facing to the right. If facing left, swap "Left" with "Right" and vice versa. Also note directions (Up, Left, etc.) are buttons on the D-Pad, just so you know. ~~ Punch : B ~~ Kick : A ~~ Jump : Up ~~ Forward Jump : Up + Right ~~ Crouch : Down ~~ Guard : Down + Right ~~ Jumping Kick : Up (+ Right) + B ~~ Jumping Punch: Up (+ Right) + A ~~ Low Punch : Down (+ Right) + B ~~ Low Kick : Down (+ Right) + A =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Section Seven: Character Profiles and Special Moves **FIGHT_7** =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= All controls will assume Trigger 1 controls -- if using Trigger 2, swap the A Button for the B Button, and vice versa. It is also assume that you are facing to the right when executing moves -- if facing left, swap "Left" with "Right" and vice versa.
