They will widen/narrow the screen, respectively. Otherwise, N/A. ~~ A+B+Start+Select: - Soft reset. ---------------------------------- Playing the Game - Before the Race ---------------------------------- After the title screen, you'll first select one of four cars: ~~ Sportster (Auto): Has an automatic transmission and average handling. Good for beginners who don't want to focus on shifting gears. Slowest of all the cars, though. ~~ Sportster (Manual): Slightly faster the its automatic counterpart, though you need to shift gears. Has average handling and a moderate maximum speed. ~~ Roadster: Another manual transmission car, meaning you'll need to shift gears still. Has decent handling and a high top speed. Good for the average player. ~~ Speedster: The fastest car of them all, still having a manual transmission. Has an exceptional top speed, but very poor handling. Good only for the most skilled player. Afterwards, you'll have to select one of three tracks: ~~ Autocross: A fairly basic and uneventful track. Built for speed with a few turns. Try staying on the inside of the turns for optimal times. ~~ Stunt Track: A more advanced version of Autocross, filled with a part for full-speed and another for wild stunts. Filled with obstacles, so watch it! ~~ Super Stunt Track: All about obstacles and stunts; a more advanced version of the Stunt Track. ---------------------------------- Playing the Game - During the Race ---------------------------------- We'll first investigate your heads-up display. At the top, you'll see the qualifying time you need to beat, your last lap's time, and your score. In the top-right, that parallelogram is your (crappy) rear-view mirror. Used only in the challenge lap, it shows if a person is behind you. At the bottom, from left to right, you'll see the time before the game ends, your RPM gauge, your speed in miles per hour (for you metric people, one mile is about 1.61 kilometers), and your gear gauge. Onto the game. During the race, your goal is first to qualify for the challenge lap. You do so by running the track around for one lap, hoping to beat the qualifying time at the top of the screen. Along the way, you'll encounter checkpoints to boost your time. You don't want to crash into anything large (i.e. barns), for you'll lose time for that. Additionally, driving off of the track is also a bad idea. If you're off for more than ten consecutive seconds (during the challenge lap, it may be more like "ten seconds overall"), you'll lose. After you reach the finish line and qualify, you'll be allowed to race around for a little longer until time runs out. This is to yield bonus points. After time runs out, you'll do a challenge lap - this is basically just a race against a CPU player on the same track.
