These are the overall rules: Two people are in a boxing arena, a square area roped off, and are wearing large gloves that they hit each other in the body and head with. The match can continue on for ten rounds (3 minutes each in Heavyweight Championship Boxing). After each round, each boxer is judged on three criteria, and the person with the better score at the end of the match is deemed the winner. One person may also be forced to quite the match by knock-out. This can take place due to injury, or (as the only way that can be done in this game) if, upon being knocked down to the ground, he does not get up within 10 seconds. -------- CONTROLS -------- A - Strike with your right fist + Down - Hook + Up - Uppercut B - Strike with your left fist + Down - Hook + Up - Uppercut Down - Guard against Hooks Up - Guard against Uppercuts Start - Pause the game ----------- BOXER TIERS ----------- There is a distinct tier to the game, as different boxers are far poorer than others. Lightning Lou, for example, can only really contend and execute Knockouts consistently up to Mike Mauler, but against The Champ and the Hitman striking them with full Punch Gauges on a Special Attack will sometimes not cause a Knockout attack. The Author discovered this to his chagrin, beating The Hitman after quite a while, only to absolutely dominate when picking one of the higher-tier characters next for a second playthrough. Using Mike Mauler (The Contender) or The Champ however makes the game significantly easier. The following is the fighting order. Whoever you choose will not show up in the round-up (The Hitman is not available as a choice). vs. Lightning Lou vs. Tokyo Thunder vs. Johnny Jab vs. Lefty O'Hook vs. Mike Mauler vs. The Champ vs. The Hitman ----- STATS ----- Before the start of each match, you can reassign, take away and give points from each of three stats. These three stats are Punch - How strong your punches are Speed - How fast you move in the arena and when fighting Stamina - The strength of your stamina These may not be entirely accurate, as the author does not have the manual, and these are just anecodtal observations. If you do have the manual for this game, feel free to email him scans or pictures or write-ups at his email at the bottom of this guide. After each match, you will receive more points to allocate to your stats: 1 point for each of your first two matches 2 points each match thereafter ---------------- STARTING A MATCH ---------------- In the 'overview' part you and your opponent will wander around the boxing ring until the two of you get close and initiate a battle by pressing the A or B button. Occasionally, you may end up in a Clinch, and the two of you will be separated and a short break will occur before you begin again. -------- FIGHTING -------- When fighting, you are put in a weird first-person perspective, though you can see the outline of your head on the screen. Opposite you is your opponent. You can use your A and B button to strike at his head and body, but he similarly can strike back at you. For more information on hits, read up on the Gauges section below. If you press the Up or Down button, you will guard against strikes from down low and up high. You can also rotate left and right to rotate around, either to chase after your opponent if he moves away, or to run away from him. Moving too far away from your opponent will exit you out onto the arena perspective. ------ GAUGES ------ When you initiate a rally, you should see two bars on the bottom screen, one of them significantly longer than the other one (the long one on the left, the short one on the right). The left gauge can be thought of as your 'Stamina Gauge'. After each 3 minute round or a Clinch, the gauge will fill up a little bit, but not much. The gauge will drain down to fill up the right gauge after a rally, but only when you are out on the overview of the boxing ring. Your 'Fight Gauge' is the right gauge. When you are actually in boxing mode, you will slowly dish out and receive hits. Whenever somebody is hit in the head or body, they lose a bar or two (or more with bigger hits) off this Fight Gauge. If your Fight Gauge is completely empty after a hit, you are knocked down, and depending on how much Stamina you have left, you (or your opponent if he is the one on the ground) may stay down for the full 10 seconds it takes to get back up. On the boxing screen, you have an additional two vertical gauges with six bars or circles. These circles will fill up to six full black circles and then reset back to all being white/empty before filling up again. The left gauge corresponds to your left hand punch (initiated by the B button) and therefore the right gauge is for your right hand punch (initiated by the A button). The closer you are to having a full gauge full when you hit somebody, the more damage you cause to them. This does not matter as much in the lower rounds, but in the last couple of matches, you can basically only damage your opponent with a full gauge. You can also only execute a Special with a full gauge. You can pause the filling up of the Gauges by pressing Up or Down. When you exit a rally and are out on the overview, your Punch gauges will be at the exact same level of completion as you exited when you re-enter, meaning you could potentially store up and stop your gauges at 6 on a Special, then re-enter battle and get in a fast hit. ----------------------- SPECIAL ATTACK/KNOCKOUT ----------------------- At the beginning of the game, you are given a choice of three different types of Knockouts - Straights, Hooks, and Uppercuts. These are all entirely stylish choices with no actual gameplay repercussions except that the Straight knocks your opponent away from you, so it takes a few seconds to rematch after he gets up because the two of you need to get closer to each other. Occasionally, your gloves will start flashing. When this occurs, you are in Special Mode. Once either of your glove gauges fill up to six circles, you can hit the other boxer. If you connect, you will usually perform a Knockout. Lower-tier characters will not always get a Knockout off against a higher-tier character, however - see below. The Special Mode is a bit weird with how long it lasts. Sometimes it will end as soon as one glove overflows six circles and resets, then sometimes it lasts for both gloves, and sometimes it will last for two full refills of each glove. Additionally, if you hit with your glove before you fill a gauge up completely, the Special Mode usually is cancelled, but sometimes it will stay longer. Once you perform the Knockout, your opponent will be sent sprawling to the floor, with his entire Fight Gauge wiped out, and a significant amount taken off his Stamina Gauge. The Referee will then count to 10. Your opponent's stamina gauge must be brought to a low level before he will stay down for the full count. There is a bit of a weird not-quite-glitch when it comes to the count of 10. If you knock your opponent down when there are less than 10 seconds left, the timer will run out first and you will go to the next round. Even odder is that if his entire Stamina Gauge was also taken out, his Fight Gauge will be restored, but he will not attack you at all, and you can just wait out the rest of the Rounds without fighting again once. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Donations/Amazon -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ [DONT] I don't really care too much about donations, but if you are feeling generous, feel free to send one via PayPal to gammabetaalphafaqs AT gmail DOT com Alternatively, if you ever order any items from Amazon.com, go to the link below.
