===================================DISCLAIMER================================== I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com), IGN (faqs.ign.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks. Just to make things crystal clear for some people, this FAQ is not to appear anywhere at the following URLs: http://www.cheatcc.com http://www.cheatindex.com This document Copyright 2004,2017 Daniel Engel =============================================================================== Duck Tales FAQ October 26, 2017 Daniel (DEngel) Engel dan.engel.2017 [AT] gmail [DOT] com ############################################################################### (A) TABLE OF CONTENTS ############################################################################### Table of Contents (A) This Table of Contents (B) Story (C) Controls (D) Advanced Techniques (E) Items (F) Walkthrough - (F-01) The Amazon - (F-02) Transylvania - (F-03) African Mines - (F-04) The Himalayas - (F-05) The Moon - (F-06) Transylvania Revisited (G) Experimental ############################################################################### (B) STORY ############################################################################### You play the role of the money-grubbing old Disney character Scrooge. Basically you are doing what any rich man desires to do. That is drop everything and travel to multiple locations around the globe in search of treasure and wealth. ############################################################################### (C) CONTROLS ############################################################################### The controls for this game are very simple, and are as follows: A - Makes your character jump. B - Used for the various attacks & techniques detailed below. Start - Pauses the game. Select - Not used. ############################################################################### (D) ADVANCED TECHNIQUES ############################################################################### ========== Golf Swing ========== Your character can swing his cane like a golf club. This allows you to send objects (like chests or boulders flying, or uncover hidden items. To perform the golf swing walk against the object and press B. ========= Pogo Jump ========= The pogo jump is very helpful because it is a lot higher than your regular jump, and it has offensive power (can be used as an attack). To perform the pogo jump press A then press and hold B. If you're already in the air (from falling or something) you only need to press B. Finally once you're doing the pogo jump, hold B to keep it going. ############################################################################### (E) ITEMS ############################################################################### You can pick up various items in the game (apart from the large treasures that you are after) and each one has its own purpose. Super Star: These extend your energy by one unit. Scrooge Doll: These give you an extra life. Medallion: These make you invincible for a limited time. Cake: These restore ALL of your energy. Ice-Cream Cones: These restore one unit of your energy. Hidden Treasure (Ring): found in the African Mines, worth $1000000. Hidden Treasure (Square): found on The Moon, worth $1000000. Rare Diamonds: These give you $50000. Large Diamonds: These give you $10000. Small Diamonds: These give you $2000. To make things easier I will refer to the above three diamonds as diamonds, crystals, and gems. diamonds being worth most, and gems the least. ############################################################################### (F) WALKTHROUGH ############################################################################### Bricklayer J. Gastronomy Once you choose your difficulty, you get to pick which stage you want to start in. These stages are - The Amazon - Transylvania - African Mines - The Himalayas - The Moon You can start in any stage you want, except the African Mines, as you need a key to get in there, and this key is found in Transylvania. Your nephew will tell you this (in this stage) and then you will begin in Transylvania. ############################################################################### (F-01) THE AMAZON ############################################################################### This stage (not surprisingly) takes place in a jungle. You will have to navigate a lot of areas with spikes, and do some vine climbing. In the beginning of this stage gorillas will be walking by, so be sure to pogo them. From the very beginning you can golf swing (GS) the first platform to uncover up to 3 crystals. The first chest has a large diamond in it, and the next platform can be GS for up to 3 more large diamonds. You can now either pogo from the extreme right of the platform to open the chest (large diamond), or pogo off a gorilla. Now you can pogo across the spikes, while avoiding the pit, or pogo from vine to vine. Personally I find it easier to ignore the vines. Pogo over the stone wall, and pogo the snake (a large diamond is in the chest). The platform after the snake has 3 large diamonds in it. Fall down the next hole that comes up. GS the boulder below from the left side of it, it will hit the chest on the right. Now pogo to where the chest was and up over the wall. Keep heading right and some gems will appear, now pogo up onto the statue using the 2 chests (crystals). In the chest on the statue is a diamond, once you've got it return over the wall. GS the other boulder from the right side to kill the spider. Jump the pit and pogo the 2 chests (cake & doll) while avoiding the spikes in the ceiling. Pogo across the next set of spikes (you will get hit once in the ceiling spikes). Jump across the pit when it is safe and GS the boulder to kill the spider. Jump the next pit and pogo over the wall. Here there is an ice cream, a gem, and a diamond in the chests and 2 crystals in the blocks. Now pogo back over the wall and make your way up to the surface again by using the vine. Wait for the bee to pass by above you, then drop off the vine to the right. GS the block above you to kill the snake, avoid the bee and grab the crystal that the snake dropped. Now pogo your way to the right (avoiding bees) until you reach the last vine. Climb up 2 screens and grab the 2 treasures. Go right and jump across the blocks until you reach the statue. Wait for your friend to fly near you and grab hold of his rope, then ride to the other statue. Pogo up to the next statue and continue left. Avoid the plant at all costs, it can not be hurt with a pogo attack and will hurt you instead. Now run across the bridge as fast as you can (don't jump or pogo, because sometimes enemies off-screen hit you) and jump up the pile of blocks. Here you will see your friend Launchpad again. He will offer to take you back to Duckburg. What this means is that your score so far gets put in the bank, and you get to pick what stage to start from again from the main screen. I would say NO to him, but that's me. Climb the vine, then pogo up onto the platform, and over the wall. Now you can run up here and avoid the enemy below. Pogo the blocks after the vine and kill the gorilla. Open the chest for a medallion, then pogo right, destroy the blocks and drop down. Run right and GS the next set of blocks (hopefully hitting the gorilla in the process). Then open the two chests (doll & diamond) and work your way back out of this little detour. Work your way to the spider and jump the pit when it is safe. Kill the spear-throwing enemy and pay the fee. Pogo to the vine and climb up a screen. Grab the cake from the chest if you need it and head left into the passage. Run across the bridge (same as the last one), and grab the gems as you head downstairs. Jump the pit when safe and get a diamond and advice from your nephew. Drop down and pogo left across the spikes as the boulder chases you. Once past the spikes do a regular jump across the pit from the very edge of the ground. Jump across the pit when safe and prepare to do battle with the boss. =========== BOSS BATTLE =========== This battle is quite simple, the boss just moves from left to right, and jumps every so often. You need to pogo him 4 times to beat him. He cannot be hurt after you have hit him while he is flashing. Rather you can get hurt if you try to attack him at that point. Just keep at him and you should have him beat in no time. Grab your ($1000000) treasure and you have now beat the Amazon stage. ############################################################################### (F-02) TRANSYLVANIA ############################################################################### At the beginning of this stage you should GS the chest for a crystal. You can then find out about your kidnapped nephew from your niece. Climb up a screen and GS the chest (crystal) on the right, also get the crystal in the blocks. Climb up a screen, then GS the left statue and jump back to the rope. Now that it's safe continue left, jump on the coffin and walk through the wall. Collect the diamond and super star then GS the coffin for more crystals. Climb the rope and use the blocks to pogo up to the statue. Jump over it and climb the next rope on the right. Get in the mine cart and hold down the whole way. Be sure to jump right before it falls in the pit at the end though. Jump the pit and get in the next mine cart. Repeat the same method used for the last mine cart. You don't need to hold down in the final straight corridor. Jump the pit and duck to avoid the ghost, then grab the cake. Grab the gems, avoid another ghost and get a doll. Break the blocks and fall, grab the diamond and crystal and head left. GS the mummy's ball to kill it. Break the blocks and fall to your left, grab the 2 ice cream cones. Fall left again and grab the crystal and diamond. Fall again then run right across the bridge. Grab the diamond in the chest then break the blocks and fall. Get a crystal from the left blocks, and head left. Avoid a couple of ghosts, jump some pits, and you will reach the boss. =========== BOSS BATTLE =========== This boss flies back and forth, then lands and fires 3 lightning bolts. Pogo her when she lands, or while she is flying if she's low enough. Again she can't be hurt after she has just been hit and is flashing. Once you pogo her 4 times the battle is over. ############################################################################### (F-03) AFRICAN MINES ############################################################################### When the stage starts your nephew will tell you that you need a key that can be found in Transylvania. You will then go back to that stage, simply go right until you see your niece. Then jump into the mirror below her. Open the chest for the key, then use the other mirror to go back to the stage select screen. Now that you have the key you can begin the stage like normal. Head right and pogo some slugs, GS the coal pile for some crystals. GS the boulder to take out the bat, then drop down a screen. Jump the wall on your right for a diamond, then return to the chain. Pogo the slug and grab another diamond, then head left over the bridge. GS the coal for more diamonds, and fall a screen. Pogo the slug but leave the coal alone. Now jump the left wall for one of the game's rare hidden treasures. It's a ring worth $1000000, not too shabby. Return over the wall and head right, stop at the water. Pogo across it so that you pogo the jumping enemy halfway across. Jump the next gap easily and pogo the enemy while crossing the third gap. Pogo another enemy while crossing the fourth gap, then GS the boulder into the bat. Grab the treasure (crystal) and GS the next boulder into a bat. Grab a crystal from the blocks, and more from GS the coal. GS the next coal too for more diamonds, then drop a screen. GS the boulder into the bat then break the blocks below you. Now free the boulder and run left so it falls into the hole. Jump the boulder and head left, at the chain drop one screen. Get enough ice cream from your friend to fill your energy, then walk right through the wall behind her. Grab the doll and cake, then return up one screen. Head left until you reach the boss. =========== BOSS BATTLE =========== The boss does 3 hops, then rolls around the room, sometimes clockwise, other times counter clockwise. He CANNOT be hurt while he is rolling, only when he is hopping, so hit him then. Pogo him 4 times and you will be done this stage. ############################################################################### (F-04) THE HIMALAYAS ############################################################################### In this stage you can't pogo where there is snow. If you do, then you will land in the snow (it's pretty deep) and get stuck. When you're stuck you can't move, so enemies can hit you more easily. If you get stuck hit the jump button to break free. Basically if you do any pogo jumps make sure it's an enemy that you land on, or a chest. When you start the stage head right (while killing or avoiding the enemies) until you hit your first rope then drop down a screen (hold right). Grab the diamond here and fall down another screen (hold right). Grab the doll and diamond, and fall down yet another screen (in the left hole). Drop down the hole to your left and head left. Grab the medallion and keep going left, get the diamond at the end. Climb the rope, and grab the ice cream and crystal. Find out about Bubba being trapped in ice from your nephew, then climb up a screen. Pogo off the enemy here and use your extra height to land on the ice block. Here keep pogo jumping until Bubba is free. He will open up a secret passage for you. Grab the super star from the treasure, then drop 2 screens. Carefully work your way right (so you don't get hit by the spikes) to the rope, then climb it. Head left through the snowy tunnel, and climb up a screen. Quickly jump off the rope to the safe spot on your left. Once the boulder falls climb up a screen. Head left here, and climb the rope at the end. Jump on the platform and ride it right, then continue right to the boss. =========== BOSS BATTLE =========== This boss jumps from side to side, and when he reaches a side he punches the wall. The punch causes snow balls to fall, then his pattern repeats. Basically pogo him any time he is on the ground, and 4 hits will take him out. ############################################################################### (F-05) THE MOON ############################################################################### From the beginning pogo your way right (ignore the blocks) until you reach the diamond at the end. Then head left and climb the rope into the ship. Head right for a couple of diamonds then head all the way left (for another diamond) and climb up a screen. GS a few blocks into enemies and you'll find out that you need to find a key somewhere in the UFO (head up a screen). Head left for a doll, then head right and climb up a screen. Head left and pogo over the wall for a diamond and the key! Work your way down 2 screens and go through the now open door on your right. Grab the remote control then climb back up 2 screens. Head right and grab the cake and diamond, then exit the ship on the right. Grab the $1000000 treasure square (sounds like a horrible game show) and drop down a screen. Pogo across these blocks carefully (they sink every so often), and drop down a screen. Jump on the platform, and pogo across the enemies to the right. Jump on the platform and your friend Gizmoduck will open a passage for you. Drop down, grab the diamond and crystal and work your way left to the boss. =========== BOSS BATTLE =========== This boss lurks in the centre of the room then either jumps up to one of the platforms, or runs around on the bottom of the screen. In either case he will return to the centre again before repeating his pattern. It's probably easiest to pogo him when he's at the bottom, so hit him 4 times and get this level over with. ===== Done? ===== Once you have beaten all 5 stages your treasures will get stolen! As your computer tells you, "Ha ha ... If you want to get the treasures back come to Dracura Duck Manor. "An interesting note: "Dracura" was meant to be Dracula, a funny typo. It's been a while since I've played the NES version of this game, but I seem to remember it being Dracula in that game. In any case you're going back to Transylvania. ############################################################################### (F-06) TRANSYLVANIA REVISITED ############################################################################### Basically you just need to get to the boss room again in this stage so I'll give you a quick route. From the beginning climb the first rope, head all the way right to the mirror and use it. Break blocks and fall down into the next room with 2 mirrors. Use the one on the right, then head left, break the blocks and fall. Here just head right to the boss. =========== BOSS BATTLE =========== This guy will be fairly high up for most of the battle so you can't pogo him directly. But he does send out some bats every so often. So pogo them, and use your extra height to pogo the boss. 4 Hits should beat him, and take you to the final part of the game. Now your rival FlintHeart Glomgold appears and tells you that you'll have to beat him to the treasures if you want them back. He then starts flying upwards with some help from the Transylvania boss. You have to jump to the rope on the left and climb to the treasure before he reaches it. Now just sit back and enjoy the ending! ############################################################################### (G) EXPERIMENTAL ############################################################################### For a little while now I've had a paypal link in all my FAQs at the very bottom here. Mainly as a small experiment since a few other FAQ authors have also had the same idea. I had a few people email me before I put this link in because they wanted to send money, so it's here for those people. For the record I've received about $87 (which works out to a bit more in Canadian lol) last I checked, so I've been getting cases of pop and making some excellent progress on a few FAQs. If you don't want to send money or can't then send me an email, it's nice to hear what people thought about my work and there's always room for improvement. My email address and paypal address for those that want to contribute are both dan.engel.2017 (AT) gmail (DOT) com Many thanks, and I hope you continue to use my work! ~Dan
