In "Monsters' Den: Book of Dread", you are a party of adventurers inside a dungeon of monsters, trying to find and eliminate the threat to the world. You must loot any equipment you can, be it from chests, or the possessions you take from defeated enemies (notice I didn't say monsters) to help you on your quest. Version History (VRSN1.3) This page is a list of all the updates that have occurred. Version 1.0: My rough draft. Let's see how it goes. Version 1.1: Added the PS to "Stuff you should know". Also fixed one of the lists. (Stupid line skips...) Stuff You Should Know (SYSK1.4) Stuff you ought to know before everything. ?> Before you go further, know that this guide is geared mainly towards novices. Ametuers could pick up a thing or two, but veterans may want to stop right here. ?> Before you go veterans, would you mind recommending this guide to the lower skilled players? It would be a HUGE help to me. ?> I'm aware of the grammar errors, and they are intentional. P.S. I'm sorry about the "line skips" (where there is a one-word line). It did not show in the application (Textedit), and I do not know how to fix it. General Crap (GNR2.0) This section covers the basics. If you don't know this, you're screwed. Gameplay (GMPL2.1) This covers how to play the game. Even though it's covered in-game, I still must explain it. Navigation: Click on a room to go there. Not too hard. Or complicated. Loot: Click on an item to deselect it for taking, & press "Take Loot" when you're ready. Also, you can select "Discard" to not take anything. Battle: Select a skill, then select a target. Not too hard. Or complicated. Boosts (BST2.2) This covers the additions to weapon names, and what they mean. They start with Melee Attack, Power Attack, and Defiance. }?> Cleric: A magical class, they are the best classes for healing, but can only use maces (as their weapon). They start with Melee Attack, Heal, and Smite. }?> Mage: Another magical class, but more focused on damage. They start with Magic Attack, Fireball, and Freeze. }?> Ranger: A ranged class, they do great with (cross)bows and in the back row. They start with Ranged Attack, Pierce, and Nature's Balm. }?> Barbarian: A high damage melee class, they buff and debuff. Damaged (Gray): The weakest kind, all the gear you start with is this. Common (White): Standard, with no boosts, but still better than gray. Magical (Green): These only have 1 boost, and as such are very basic. Rare (Blue): With 2 boosts, you probably won't find yourself wearing nothing but these. Unique (Purple): Very powerful, and the name does not correspond to boosts. Legendary (Orange): Similar to unique, but better and harder to obtain. Advanced Crap (ADV3.0) This section covers some of the stuff that you should know, but do not necessarily need to. Orbs (ORB3.1) This covers orbs, which are enchantments you apply to your equipment. Battle Strategies (STRT4.1) This covers tips on how to do well in battle. >> When an enemy is afflicted by poison that will kill them, do not attack them. You're only wasting turns you could be using attacking another enemy or reinforcing your team. >> If a player is low on power and cannot attack without using it, pass their turn and attack with a different player. >> If you have a Warrior, there is little reason not to use Bloodlust to finish an enemy. >> Do not use power to attack a single enemy to finish them if a regular attack would succeed. >> Never use an area of effect attack on a single enemy. NEVER. Navigation and Loot (LOOT4.2) This covers smart tactics for getting around and looting. Always clear the level. You can then retreat once the next level to the same effect as a healing shrine. Never pass up a portal scroll. They are too rare to lose. If you have a consumable, don't be afraid to get another one; they stack in your inventory. Don't take stuff you don't need or want to sell. You then have to discard a ton of crap later. Other Tips (OTHR4.3) This covers other helpful tips. • Use a full four players unless you really don't want to. Don't be arrogant. • Get the Emporium badge from the shop ASAP. It solves the problem of the portal scroll's rarity. • Use the correct weight armor at all times. The characters will live up to their name. • Invest in the right stats, i.e. don't use intellect for a warrior. Notes and Such (NOTE5.0) This covers miscellaneous areas of this guide.
