Introduction ================= Pachinko GP (also known as Pachinko Grand Prix) is a pachinko game developed by Marionette Co., Ltd. and released in 1988 by Data East Corporation. You would think the game would play like a combination of pachinko and racing, like the higher your score, the faster your car goes, but no. It's just plain old pachinko with a racing theme to it. Throughout the game, you'll play in different locations in Japan. There are 8 levels (machines) in the game. Complete them and you'll get the ending. That's all there is to it. Note that this guide assumes the player knows the rules of playing pachinko. If you don't, you can find many tutorials online. The main goal is to get the balls out of the pachinko machine using the balls that you have. ============== 2. Copyright ============== This strategy guide is copyright ? 2014 Doommaster1994. Loading the Game ===================== ==================== a. Load by Famicom ==================== Turn on the Famicom with the Disk System peripheral attached to the serial port. The Famicom Disk System BIOS will start up and you will be prompted to insert a disk. Place the Pachinko GP disk inside the Disk System's disk slot. The game will then load to the title screen. Make sure it is on side A. Once the title screen is fully loaded, press the Start button on the controller. You will get the message "Load しています" which means it is loading. Before you start actually playing the game, you will be given the message "Bめん を せっとして ください" (Please set disk to side B). To do this, eject the Pachinko GP disk out of the disk system and turn it over to its B side. Then place the Pachinko GP disk inside of the Disk System and the game will begin to load... ===================== b. Load by Emulator ===================== (Note: This will cover loading FDS games on FCEUX.) Open up your emulator of choice (preferrably FCEUX). Open up the game ROM for Pachinko GP and the emulator will automatically load the ROM file. When you are given the message "Bめん を せっとして ください" (Please set disk to side B), click NES > Eject/Insert Disk, NES > Switch Disk Side, and then NES > Eject/Insert Disk again. ========= 4. Menu ========= The top of the menu will say "げーむもーど を せんたく してください" (Please select the game mode). On the center of the screen is two options; ぐらんぷり もーど (Grand Prix Mode) which will take you into the meat of the game, or you can select とれーにんぐ もーど (Training Mode). Press the Select button to switch between choices and either the Start or A buttons to confirm your decision. ================ 5. Walkthrough ================ ==================== a. Grand Prix Mode ==================== The way the game works, is that there's 8 Japanese cities, each of which contain three stages. Do the math, and that's 24 pachinko machines you'll need to beat. But sometimes, the game will require you to beat one machine three times. In which case, in total to complete the whole game, you'll need to complete 40 pachinko machines. Once you select Grand Prix Mode, you'll be brought to a screen similar to the file select screen in Legend of Zelda. The top of the screen will say "ぐらんぷり もーど せんたく してください" (Please select the Grand Prix Mode.) Under that are three options: げーむすたーと (Game Start) - Start the Game なまえ とうろく (Name Registration) - Create a New File なまえ けす (Name Erase) - Deletes a File Start by selecting the second option. After you're done entering your name of 6 characters max, select "おわり" (End). If you've made a mistake spelling your name correctly, you can select "もどる" (Back) which will go back to the previous character. Once you've created a file, choose Game Start. Press the Select button to choose between each file and press Start on the file you would like to load. You can also press A if you want. ============ Map Screen ============ After you've selected Game Start, you'll be brought to a map screen. This will be completely in English. You will get a map that looks kind of like the following. Note that I'm terrible at ASCII art! H A = Nagoya | B = Hakata _| C = Hiroshima G D = Kobe | E = Kanazawa _| F = Tokyo F G = Sendai __| H = Sapporo E | _| D A | | _| | C | __| | | | B________| After this screen, you'll be prompted to switch disk sides. Once you do so, wait for the game to load and you'll be taken to a screen. The right of the screen has the following text: よせん ルール (Passing Rule) - Rules for the first stage. You will have 5:00 to complete these stages. ほんせん ルール (Main Line Rule) - Rules for the second stage. You will get infinite time to complete these stages. けっしょうせん ルール (Final Rule) - Rules for the third stage. You will get infinite time, but will need to beat the pachinko machine three times to complete these stages. もちだま (Balls) - Amount of pachinko balls you get. This will always be 100. うちどめ (Goal) - How many balls you must obtain to clear the level. じかん (Time) - How much time you have to clear the level. This will always be 5 minutes. だいすう (Number) - Number of times you must clear the machine. On the second stage, you will only need to beat it once, but on the third stage, you'll need to beat it three times. When you're ready to start playing, press A to go to the next screen of text and then you will eventually get a Push Start! message. With that said, let the walkthrough begin! Pachinko is a combination of luck and skill, so I can't really tell you how to beat each level since there really is no way. You just have to know how to play the game. I believe the game does offer infinite continues (it would make sense since you can save your game.) All I can do is tell you the rules to pass each stage. If you lose, the game will load to a short cutscene which will say げーむ おーばー (Game Over) and you will have the choice between: もういちど (Try Again) or さろくする (Give Up). If you choose the former, you can try to beat the pachinko machine again. If you choose the latter, you can come back to the game later knowing your game was saved. You'll also be asked to switch to disk side A. ========= Sapporo ========= Balls - 100 Goal - 1000 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 2000 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 2000 Number - 3 After completing the last stage, the game will ask you to switch to disk side A. After doing so, your progress will be saved, and then the game will load to a cuscene. After the cutscene, the text ゆうしょう おめでとう (Victory Congratulations) will appear on screen. Nice to see they mispelled the world "Pachinco". I understand the game was developed in Japan, but if they can spell it right on the title screen, then why not here? Besides, it's a Japanese word. Anyway, after the cutscene, the game will load to the next level. After that, the game will ask you to switch disk sides again. ======== Sendai ======== Balls - 100 Goal - 500 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 2000 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 2500 Number - 3 Ha! In this cutscene, they spelled "Pachinko" correctly. Way to be consistent, Marionette... ======= Tokyo ======= Balls - 100 Goal - 500 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 2000 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 3000 Number - 3 ========== Kanazawa ========== Balls - 100 Goal - 1500 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 2500 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 2000 Number - 3 ====== Kobe ====== Balls - 100 Goal - 1000 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 3000 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 2500 Number - 3 =========== Hiroshima =========== Balls - 100 Goal - 1500 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 2500 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 3000 Number - 3 ======== Hakata ======== Balls - 100 Goal - 2000 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 3000 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 3000 Number - 3 ======== Nagoya ======== Balls - 100 Goal - 1000 Time - 5:00 Balls - 100 Goal - 3500 Number - 1 Balls - 100 Goal - 3000 Number - 3 After completing the final city of the game, you will get the following message: 表彰状 (Certificate of Commendation) (Player's name) どの (Degree of (Player's Name)) おめでとう (Congratulations) データ イースト DECO (Data East) After a few seconds on this screen, the staff credits will display. The staff credits are completely in English, so I won't need to translate those. ================== b. Training Mode ================== The top of the screen will say "とれーにんぐ もーど せんたく してください" (Please select the training mode). Here are your choices: くぎ ちょうせい (Nail Adjustment) ぷれい げーむ (Play Game) すこあ みる (See Score) After choosing one of the first two choices, you will get the choices of which pachinko theme you want to play: すかい ふあいたー (Sky Fighter) こずみっく ふいーばー (Cosmic Fever) すーぱー こんぼい (Super Convoy) Once you select your game, you will set the time limit (せいげん じかん). You can choose 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or むせいげん (Unlimited). If you choose to have unlimited time, you will get to set how many balls are in the machine (うちどめ すう). When you are satisfied with your configurations, you may start the game, only to get the message "Bめん を せっとして ください" (Please set to disk side B.) If you choose the third options, you'll see "べすと すこあ" (Best Scores) at the top of the screen. Under it, there will be four sections with the following text: じかん (Time) すかい ふあいたー (Sky Fighter) こずみっく ふいーばー (Cosmic Fever) すーぱー こんぼい (Super Convoy) When you are finished viewing the scores, press the Start button to return to the training mode screen. After you're done playing a timed game, you will get a stats screen. The first one will say "せいげん じかん" (Time Limit), the second one says, "べすと すこあ" (Best Score), and the third one says "あなたの すこあ" (Your Score). Under where it says "おめでとう!" (Congratulations!), you'll be given the choice to either play again (もういちど) or quit (やめる). If you quit, you'll be prompted to change back to side A. ================== c. Pachinko Mode ================== This isn't really a mode you can choose, but rather what I call it when you're playing the actual game. On the right are a couple statistics and options; the top option is how many balls you have, and the clock represents how much time you have. Choosing "Go" will start the game. The option under it will show you the pins. This will give you a feel on how the machine works. After you choose "Go!", move the D-pad left and right to decrease/increase the speed of the balls. You'll see the blue shape in the bottom right corner move. =========== 6. Cheats =========== To my knowledge, there are no actual cheats for this game, but I have created PAR (Pro Action Replay) cheats. These can be used on an emulator such as FCEUX. To use these cheats on FCEUX, do the following: 1.) Go to Tools > Cheats while in-game. 2.) Put the address for the cheat in the Addr box. 3.) Put the desired value of the address in the Val box. 4.) Click Add. There will be a * next to the cheat which means it is enabled. To disable it, double-click it and the asterisk will go away, meaning that the cheat was disabled. Note that most games utilize hexadecimal numbers, but in this game, everything cheat-wise is in decimal, so you can use normal numbers rather than entering FF, AD, etc. For example, let's say I want to use the cheat to clear the pachinko machine now. I will put 0094 in the Addr box and 00 in the Val box. Then I click add. Then I will click on the cheat that shows up in the box. It will fill in the Addr and Val box again after this. Now, change the 4 to 5 (0095), and then repeat when you change it to 0096. Infinite Balls: 0090 99 Clear Pachinko Machine Now: (Note: This will make it so there's no more balls left in the pachinko machine. Since this is the prime goal of clearing each pachinko machine. A big "打止" will appear on screen. If it doesn't work, hold Right on the D-pad to launch the balls.) 0094 00 0095 00 0096 00 Infinite Time: 0099 09 (Minutes) 009A 09 (Seconds) Launcher Full Power: 00BD 43 Kind of a useless one, but at the ending screen, 0021:25 will freeze the ending screen but continue the ending music. This could be useful if you wanted to get a screencap of the ending screen, though most emulators have a screenshot button. ======== 7. FAQ ======== Q - At the Famicom Disk System screen, the game doesn't boot up. A - If you used the cheat 0090 99, disable it. Q - How do you know the game was developed by Marionette? Their name is never mentioned in the game. A - A couple things. I talked to the game's composer Hironari Tadokoro who verified it. Also, like in Dr. Chaos (another Marionette title that DOES credit them), one of the credits is "Computer Designed by Pink Dragon". In Dr. Chaos, there was a similar credit, "Computer Designed by Marionette". Q - Can you send me the ROM for this game? A - If you ask me this, I will block you without replying. I cannot give the ROM file for legal reasons. Q - Where can I buy this game? A - You can try looking on eBay. At the time I wrote this guide, I found a couple copies there. One for around $10 and the other around $20. Q - Where do I put the disk in my Famicom? I don't see a disk slot. A - The Famicom requires the Famicom Disk System peripheral in order to play this game. Q - I/we would like to use your guide on our website. May we do so? A - Please send me an e-mail and wait for my reply to get my permission. Cheat Code Central and other sites that plagiarize/steal from GameFAQs are prohibited from using this guide. The only site that doesn't require my permission is GameFAQs since this is where I upload the guide. =========================== 8.
