INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Omoikkiri Tanteidan Haado Gumi: Matenrou no Chousenjou' for the FDS, released by Bandai in 1988. The game is entirely in Japanese but it requires very little knowledge. It is mainly a platformer and the Japanese text is not necessary to be understood, especially as you have this walkthrough as your guide. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== Story: `````` The game is about a group of kid detectives and their fight against the evil Guy Fawkes masked villain for whatever he did. You only play as one of the kids but the rest will support you from their hideouts. Controls: ````````` A Jump B Punch / Use Carried Item START De/Activate Special Items with A/B buttons SELECT n/a This being a Family Computer Disk System game you will often be asked to switch disk size, especially when entering/existing sewers. Even if you cannot read the Japanese message on screen you should be able to recognize the A/B part of the message and follow suit. Sometimes the game switches from one side to the other and back only to load something into memory. Display: ```````` Top Left represents your health. Lose all of these red dots and it is "game over[, man]". The row below in white dots are used for special items (which incidentially are displayed on the right). Each use takes away one blob but it does not count for re-using things like the slingshot if I understand correctly. Both items can easily be replenished at one of the buildings as described in the walkthrough. Items: `````` Slingshot: Shoot straight at enemies and much better than punching anyone. In fact there is absolutely not reason not to switch this on immediately and never switch it off again. Metal Detector: Detect... metal, mainly a key actually. Flash Gun: Used to point out secret doorways as far as I know Radio: Unknown to me, sorry Binoculars: See the area in front of you for a brief second. Punch Card: A way to find secret messages inside statements. After activation you can move around your detective guy for scrolling across a message. Flashlight: Used to see in the dark sewer tunnels. You cannot get far without this. The batteries last for a few minutes or until you leave the sewer whatever comes first. This is your main use of the action points. Rope: Enables you to rope up to platforms above and thus making it easier to traverse the tunnels and also reach the higher platforms in the last area. Thus a must have item to beat the game. Keys: Two keys: one for the secret hideout of Mister Bug (not sure this is a guy wearing a cockroach outfit or some mutated monster that does not attack you but whatever). The other key is used for the Cheats: ``````` 07D3:0A Infinite Health 07D4:05 Infinite Special Item Use 06FD:50 Beat the flower stage either way [Thanks to GForce for these codes] =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== First enter your info. Anything will do here. PROLOGUE Stage 1 consists of a matching game. There are 4 pictures of characters and you need to enter the order they will appear in the middle. Each picture is shown twice and it should be that the first four pictures are one round and then another round in different sequence. Use the direction buttons and confirm with A for the sequence. Stage 2 Next you need to catch some roses thrown down from the baloon. You can jump with the A button although it hardly makes a difference. Grab enough balloons to reach the main game. MAIN GAME After passing the tests you play as the detective and it plays more as a platformer. After a few words from your support teamster you can now leave the underground base (hidden in a well...hmm) Outside meet your first goon. As you left unprepared (did I tell you to prepare oh sorry maybe I should have). you can only punch with the B button. But look at your inventory and you have more items! Press START to not only pause the game but also select items. Use the direction buttons to move within the items and activate them with the A button. Press the B button on a highlighted item to deselect it again. You can only use some combinations together such as the slingshot with the radio but you cannot use the more than two items at the same time. I suggest you switch to the slingshot now so it is much easier to hit the goons from far away. Also each time you activate an item you lose one silver coin. Walk right and notice that the crows are also evil thus avoid them and enter the shrine. You can also duck with the down direction if necessary. Talk to the monk and leave again. Use the metal detector on the graves outside to find a chip. Pick it up and return to your well-hidden (pun well intended) well hideout for a brief conversation. Walk to the table to display a message. Now activate the punch card to decode messages hidden within. Walk all the way right to see all combinations. You also noticed that at this point you did not lose a silver coin. Back outside go right to the police station (you can stay at the bottom rather than climb all around as there is a little ledge at the part that seems too high to reach). After the brief conversation exit the RIGHT side to get to a different area of town. Enter the nearby manhole that got unlocked through your decoding technique (okay so you only know about this manhole from the decoder card so you would not be able to enter here otherwise, mkay?) Inside, and the game is wasting your time here you need to go through the entire maze only to realize that the next area is pitch black. Fun? I think not. Anyhow, avoid the goons here as well as the snakes and worms. The steam vents do not harm you and are just for show. Drop off the ladder left right off the start and follow it along all the way to the left. Take the next ladder down, another ladder down to the left and then the steps up on the right. Follow this path to the next room (enter with UP). As you cannot see anything press UP again and return to town. Walk left and enter the next doorway. After a talk with the guy exit left into the building and take the double doors (by pressing DOWN, maybe needs some corrections on where you are standing to work) and arriving back at the other side of town. Walk left to the well and talk to mister know-it-all to understand that one of the electricians goons (orange jumpsuits) has a flashlight. With that knowledge return to the police, go through the building and on the otherwise you might have already encountered the guy in an orange jumpsuit who takes 3 slingshots to kill. After he drops down you might still end up with nothing so walk right and kill a couple of guys there, return left and try again until you eventually have a flashlight pop up above the manhole. If you have no luck after 3 tries you must have forgotten to trigger this at the well. Before the nice trip to the sewers we will first take care of some business that is supposed to explain what we are looking for down there plus enable us enough action points to last for a while. For this you have to go to the research building on the left, walk through into the main building on the left and take up two flights of stairs. At the top turn right and talk to the girl inside. Return to the bottom of the building and enter the left door. Pick up the food and then press the A button to reveal the guy. After the conversation go up to the second floor and enter the left door. Grab the item on the microscope to fill your action points. Exit the building at the bottom and then walk all the way left to the well. Talk to the guy again and we are finally ready for the sewers. With the flashlight in tow we shall go back down the sewers and this time we can actually see something in the second part - if you switch on the torch that is. Go right and jump on the block moving vertical. Jump to the left and over to the ladder. Up the next ladder and use the horizontally moving block to get to the other side. Stay at the top and take a leap of faith to the left to find a block to land on. Jump to the moving block and then across to the other side where a bat might scare you. Get past the block and after you pass the little rock hanging on the ceiling you want to jump towards the little rock on the left side to avoid the pitfall. There is absolutely not way to see the gap in the floor. After a couple of jumps across the spikes avoid the moving block and drop to the floor. Walk left and defeat the snake. Walk right for a bit and then back left to rekill the respawned snake. Eventually it will drop the rope thing. Jump up on the left side using the glitches in the wall. Take the block up and then travel to the right while remembering the pitfall. Basically now you want to return to the lit area (if your flashlight fails just switch it back on). Exit the sewers. Return to the well and talk to the kid. Enjoy walking all the way right of town to the warehouse looking building. Inside also make your way to the right and stand on the middle of the blocks. Press DOWN to enter the next sewer. Switch on the flashlight first. Unfortunately before we can progress here you will need to speak to another dorky kid in the well hideout. Use the snake rope where you are standing to get back up. After talking the fat kid you will know that you have to go back the original sewer to get a key. Thus walk right to the police station, go through it, take the manhole down at the left side and this time we go another path. Go right, jump across the water and go up the ladder. At the right side jump down at the next water and then climb down to the bottom area at the right side. Walk right and you will see the evil keyholder lurking on the right across a block. Shoot him to pieces and claim the key. If he accidentally fell down you have to trigger him again. Jump over to where he was standing and activate the key. Stand at the brown rock and press UP to enter. Talk to the evil genius before he disappears and then walk forward. Use the punch card to decode the messages by walking further right and then leave. The goon will have respawned but you can ignore him. Walk left and up the ladder at the end to enter a dark passage. Switch on the flashlight and drop down. Go right and jump over the spikes and on the block until you reach the other side of the water pool. Stand between the two rocks and press DOWN to enter the secret room. Walk forward to see a message and once again switch on the decoder punch card to scroll through all the hidden messages. After one pass through go back and up and your flashlight requires reactivation. Return back to the top via the pool of water and then riding the elevator up. Cross right all the way and drop down at the vertical block and then walk right to the lit area. The lit area should be well known to you by now. Outside walk right to the hill and at the top pull out the metal detector. Run it across the surface to find a second key and the last item of the game. Next we want to see our lady friend at the lab. I will give you directions in case you forgot. Descend the mountain, run all the way left past the police station and enter the next doorway. Go up two flights of stairs and enter the door on the right. Talk to the girl. We want to fill up our action points again now to finish off the game. Talk to the guy in the room after eating the ratios and then go up to the room on the floor above for the points. Leave via the bottom door and then walk all the way right to the warehouse. Enter the secret area at the right side. Switch on the flashlights. Forget about going via the moving blocks on the left. Descend the ladder and walk all the way left. What looks like a deadend is now easily maneuvered with the rope. Drop on the block on the left and then do the ground. This is familiar. Take the exit on the left to the beginning area of the sewers. Make your way around as if going to the goon with the key but instead drop down at the last water pipe to a dark door. The second tile on the next two platforms is always a trap so jump over it. I also recommend jumping rather than walking on the next long platform as there are more traps. Descend the ladder and walk to the end. Switch off the flashlight so you can use the key. You are supposed to press down to use the key and unlock the secret ladder but this took me forever to trigger and even on my second try I do not know how exactly you want to do this with consistency. Keep trying to find the path. Once you are down on the ladder you are disappointed once again because to defeat the upcoming boss you will need extra support. Ascend the ladder again. (I believe this can only be triggered now else we would not come down here just to go back, and as I mention in a later note you can actually beat the game without the support but it is very hard. If you are playing the game with invincibility codes then you might as well skip a paragraph. Switch on the torch and go up the long ladder, then make your way right and drop down to the bottom. Take the block up to the large door and you are back at the beginning. Go right and defeat the goon before using the first key to unlock the brown block again (press DOWN) in front of it. Inside the bug creature will not leave this time. Walk towards it for a message which you can decode with the punch card. After doing that jump into the cabinet in the center to get a another message (mentioning 3, 5). Switch on the punch card again for more deciphering. Return to the large door on the left side (ignore the goon) and inside switch on your torch. Either kill the monsters or drop over them. Use the rope to get up on the block that enables you to jump to the left and down to the next area. Kill the monster here and use another rope to get up. Kill a couple of more foes as you reach the last room of the game. Inside the final boss will not attack you right away which gives you the opportunity to go past him and using the rope to get up on the block. Now we want to trigger some support. Shoot the wall on the left three times, press the START button to pause and then press DOWN five times so make a superhero fly in. Whip the boss until our super trooper is out of health and finish off the boss with the slingshot. You can jump over the boss and with correct timing not take any damage. Theoretically you could only beat him that way but it is very tough. After he is dead you can rope up to the grand door and enter it. Inside is your final conversation and then exit through the same door you cam in to trigger the ending. Yippee! =============================================================================== YY.)
