INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Druid' for the Famicon Disk System, released by Jaleco in 1988. Druid was first released on several other platforms before being enhanced on the FDS. There are slight variations for chests and skulls. It also contains the subtitle 'Gate of Terror'...uhhhhhh! There is also a sequel called Enlightenment: Druid II and a third part called Warlock: The Avenger. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== Controls: ````````` Use the D-pad to move around. The game is from a top-view 2.5D perspective. You can also move diagonally. Press A to fire the current attack magic into the direction you are pressing (not pressing anything will not attack). Press B to use the currently selected support magic. START pauses the game While paused, use A to select an attack magic. While paused, use B to select a support magic. SELECT carries out golem commands Golem Commands: You tackle this mission on your own oh mighty druid but a smart necromancer will always summon a golem to fight alongside. You can also control his actions. NO GOLEM - you see this if you have not summoned a golem ATTACK - simple does an attack as you would have figured from the name FOLLOW - the golem will follow you around WAIT - the golem will stay at its current position 2PLAYER - Controller 2 controls the golem, where A will make a dash through the wall and damage any enemies behind it in a straight line. Display: ```````` DRUID Bar Your druid, called Hasrinaxx, has a health bar with a max of 9. The meter has nine bubbles which are red when half full, and blue when full. Recover health by stepping onto the paradigm found within the levels. I think I do not need to tell you that if the health bar hits 0 the game is over. GOLEM Bar The health bar of the summoned golem which is also a max of 9. The meter has nine bubbles which are red when half full, and blue when full. It cannot recover health but can be re-summoned after it has been defeated. You can also re-summoned while still alive to refresh its health. The golem even follows you along to the next floors. DESTROY Bar The number of defeated enemies. The meter has ten bubbles which are red when half full, and blue when full. After it is maxed health is recovered and turns back to 0. This also affects the rating you get at the end of the game how often it has been maxed. Chests: ``````` Spread around each floor are a number of chests. Each one can only be opened once. If you choose not to pick up something from the best it will be gone anyway (B button, will continue to enhanced items even if you do not pick up any magic). It also counts as having opened one even if left untouched. Note that there are often more than one page of magic. There is only one page for enhanced items which is always AFTER the magic pages if any. The walkthrough has a detailed content of each chest so you can plan your path depending on what items you want. Note that you will need to open some chests to progress in the game, in particular key and chaos spells. You do not need any items to finish the game thus giving you the option to make it harder or easier to your liking. Rating: ``````` At the end of the game you get a rating which also effects your ending. The maximum value is 1000 points whereas the minimum you will receive is 250 points. MAGIC G0500 =============================================================================== Attack Magic ============ Each attack magic has a number beneath to count how much you can use it. The max is 99 for each. WATER Sprays holy water, effective against ghosts, skeletons and vultures. FIRE Fireball attack, effective against beetles, slimes and snakes. LIGHTNING Blitzes the enemy, mainly the devil. Support Magic ============= Each support magic has a number beneath to count how much you can use it. These are very important for progress in the game. Keys are essential, Golem is quite important and Chaos is vital for defeating skulls. Ecnelis KEY Opens doors facing the druid. ECNELIS (Silence) Stops enemies for a short period of time as they fail to see you. In other versions of the game this spell is called Invisibility. Basically the enemies would not see you anymore and stop in confusion. GOLEM Summons a golem to fight alongside. See controls section for more info. CHAOS Effective against the skull statues. =============================================================================== 04.) ITEMS G0400 =============================================================================== Enhancement Items ================= DOUBLE Doubles the amount of magic you use at the same time. Lowers your rating when used. TRIPLE Triples the amount of magic you use at the same time. Lowers your rating when used. DOUBLELOB (DOUBLEROB in the game) Fires 2 fireballs at the same time and penetrates through the enemies. Lowers your rating when used. TRIPLELOB (TRIPLEROB in the game) Fires 3 fireballs at the same time and penetrates through the enemies. Lowers your rating when used. Strengthening Items =================== SURE Reduces damage taken when entering deep water. Lowers your rating when used. SPIRITS Increases speed of health recovery. Lowers your rating when used. ENDURANCE Enhances defense. Lowers your rating when used. ENDURANCE, G Enhances golem defense. Lowers your rating when used. CHARGER (misspelled as CHAGER in the game) Prolongs the effect of ECNELIS (Invisibility) and CHAOS spells. Lowers your rating when used. VIRTUE Increases the rating of the druid at the end of the game by two ratings. Weakening Items =============== HARDEN Regularly stops druid movements. Raises your rating when used. TUMBLER Regularly immobilizes druid (can still turn and shoot). Raises your rating when used. HAZE Makes enemies invisible for a short period of time. Raises your rating when used. HEAVEN Drains druid life whenever attacking. Raises your rating when used. STARTLE Greatly increases the number of enemies in the game. Raises your rating when used. DRUNK Reverses the movements made by the druid. Raises your rating when used. =============================================================================== 05.) ENEMIES G0500 =============================================================================== The following table shows the common enemies and which floor(s) they can be encountered, as well as their magic weaknesses. The number shows how many shots from elemental magic are required to defeat them. As you want to defeat enemies as fast as you can and possibly are trying to reduce magic usage for higher points it is vital to use this table to play the game. They will shoot fireballs at you when you come into vision and the only way to defeat them is with a Chaos spell while standing directly at the skull thus you need to pick up at least 4 during the game. If you run past them into the doorway you will be warped back to the previous floor. Acamantor w/ Orbs Found on Floor 8 after defeating the final skull. The orbs are weak against the elemental . Defeated best with your magic attacks or just plain old strategy of summoning the trusty golem. Acamantor The actual evil boss after defeating the former orb-laden boss. He takes 20 elemental magic shots to be defeated or by using 2 chaos hits directly at his face. =============================================================================== 06.) WALKTHROUGH G0600 =============================================================================== Some tips before we start: - The chests are labeled as on my maps. The maps are immensely helpful and I suggest you check them out. - Open chests only when required as you can only open it once and then the benefits are gone. It may require backtracking for chests but also prevents you getting stuck. - Paradigms restore your health when you stand on them - Flashing panels will hurt and you need to time your movement or just avoid them altogether - Keys are essential, chaos a few for the statues and golem to help you fight one boss. The rest of the chests can be spent on normal magic attacks unless you prefer the boosters. - Usually there is only one way up and down the floors. The only exception is noted in the guide. Floor 1: ```````` You must get the key from chest A or you have to restart the game. This floor is very straightforward. Get fire as you only have to fight ghosts at the start and beetles towards the end. Go north and east from the first chest and then follow along the river to a bridge. There is a paradigm to restore health. If you did not and wasted the chest you need to restart the game. You will also need more keys to continue. Chests A, H, M all have keys and are not far away from the path. You may also go for the chest D and get a Chaos spell before heading to the stairs by going all the way right from the start, then north, west again but turning northeast as you can. The west part of the map can be largely ignored but there are two keys to get. There are also a lot more chests as you make your way along the eastern side. You need 4 keys to make it to the skull. Remember to defeat it with a chaos spell (chest K is a good choice). The way to continue is in the northeast which you reach via the southeast and moving around to the northeast corner. The other four stairs go to chests, and the one on the right of the south side actually drops you right into hazard area so do not take this one! By taking the proper one next to it you can reach a total of 6 chests, the stairs in the top left reach 3 chests and the one at the center north a measly two chests and a paradigm. After circling around and destroying the skull you can head to the very bottom from the starting point and then head east until you see a few damage tiles filling the entire path heading north. This is unfortunately where you are going. Open the door at the end and then turn east to find the stairs. The first door is obvious, for the second it depends on you but you must have at least one to exit the north part. The skull statue is at the northeast corner next to the room with the treasure chest but you have to track around the river if you want to keep your health. The rest of the area just has treasure chests and hazards although the Triplelob item might interest you even so late in the game. For healing track all the way west along the river, north over the bridge and then northwest to the paradigm. Last chance to heal up. You can see the statue in the northwest room from the west side already. There are many panels that hurt you on the way - careful. Avoid him floating in circles else you are taking damage. After all four orbs are destroyed the boss will change into his real form. The real form requires either 20 hits with elemental magic or two hits from the chaos spell directly to his face (around 5~6 if you just spam it randomly which is obviously much safer but have you been collecting that many Chaos spells?!).
