INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Cleopatra no Mahou' for the Famicon Disk System, released by SquareSoft in 1987. The guide uses Shift-JIS to display Japanese characters in .txt form. If you cannot see them automatically and just see some garbled font, set your browser encoding or file viewer manually. It is recommended that you view the file in a fixed font such as Courier New as some of the tables with Shift-JIS will look odd without it. This game is a text adventure. To play you need to have advanced knowledge of the Japanese language. Thus this walkthrough is intended for players who are able to read and understand the text. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== The game is a mix of RPG and Adventure whereas you have levels, weapons and fight enemies at random encounters. However, the selection is minimal and only in certain locations are you required to fight, the rest is spent on exploring areas and solving puzzles. Menus: `````` As you play, more options appear depending on the location and situation. These are standard ones: Proceed すすむ Look みる Inventory もちものみる Continue to ばしょいどう Load, Save ロード,セーブ Status ステータス The other important ones will be mentioned in the walkthrough, but it is still advised that you learn some of these terms to make it easier to get through the game. Make a note of them at least, or look them up when you do not remember. At some locations you can also "Use Item": もちものつかう. This comes up a lot so make sure you know what this means. Shop Menu: `````````` There are three shops in town. They all have the same menu layout as well as a few from the standard menu. Buy Item ばしょいどう Talk はなす Exit でる Sell あげる Once you start shopping, the top options are the available items and いらない returns to the main menu. Fight Menu: ``````````` Random battles occur in certain locations when you use the menu. They will interrupt you during actions even during sub-menu selections. You do not have much control over the fights apart from deciding if you want to attack of flee. I have not found many items to use during a battle. There is one healing item and one quest item that are useful. Attack たたかう Use Item もちものつかう Escape/Flee にげる Inn: ```` It costs 50G to stay and heal up. Stay (at the Inn) とまる Talk はなす Exit でる You will also be told what level you are and how much experience you need to reach the next level. At the Sand Tower you can heal in a different way, there you simply say YES to do so. In the final dungeon you need to drink some water which is explained in the walkthrough when you get to it. Status: ``````` H Your current HEALTH level. E Your current EXPERIENCE points. G Your current GOLD amount. Attempts to cheat this game have been unfruitful to say the least. Several people have tried to hack the stats but the only one managed to work is keeping the health infinite. This means you will never run out and die. Set addresses 64FB and 64FC to 234 (EA in hex) to achieve this, but this may not work in every emulator or cheat device. Experience Chart: ````````````````` Lvl: Exp: HP: 1 0 50 2 64 100 3 128 200 4 256 400 5 512 600 6 1024 800 7 2048 1000 8 4096 1200 9 8192 1400 10 16384 1600 11 32768 1800 12 49152 2000 13 65536 65536* *When you hit that number, sleep at the Inn to gain the additional HP boost. It does not work at the Tower or Underground healing locations. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== The beginning of the walkthrough will describe actions in more detail and take you by the hand to get a hang of the game. Later you are required to make your own location switches rather than pointing it out over and over again. Town: (まち) ````` Convenient Map: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/fds/file/578451/51499 ----------- ------ ----- | Souvenir | | Arms | | Inn | | Shop | | Shop | | | ----------- ------ ----- ___________ ------ ----- | | | | | | | | | | | | ----------- ------ ----- ------ ----- | 2nd | | | | Hand | |START| | Shop | | | ------ ----- First thing make your way to the Arms shop to buy a Knife for 100G. Until then if you get into a fight, flee. Once you've got that you can take on the enemies that you encounter, level up at least once and make some cash at the same time. Stay away from the Thiefs (guys in a green robe) until you reach a higher level. When you have 300G, buy the Map and Rope from the 2nd Hand place. While there, talk (はなす) to the old man in the Tool Shop to know how to get to the Sphinx. A new action command has been added to your menu where you can travel back and forth from the Sphinx (スフィンクス) and Town Entrance (まちのいりぐち). Before moving on you should gain another one or two levels, but you can also come back here later if you are underleveled. Thus, when you are ready to move on: ばしょいどう -> スフィンクス. Until you return to town or I say otherwise, there won't be any fight encounters. Sphinx: (スフィンクス) ``````` INVESTIGATE the 4th layer slightly left of the middle to find a hidden passage. TAKE (とる) that same area to open it up. Now you can move into it to get a closer look. TAKE (とる) the little stick (ぼう). Now USE (はめる) the stick (ぼう) on the grey millstone. TURN ( まわす) it to reveal yet another hidden area. TAKE (とる) the Prayer Paper (いのりのしょ) from it, then INVESTIGATE the jar. Next destination: ばしょいどう -> めがみのしん (If you do not get this destination as a choice, you forgot to buy the map!!) Goddess Temple: (めがみのしんでん) ``````````````` TAKE the Ankh of Isis (イシスのアンク), Ankh of Maato (マアトのアンク) and Agate Gem (めのうのたま). Walk right. EXAMINE (みる) the wall art to find out where you should go now. ばしょいどう -> みずうみ Lake: (みずうみ) ````` In the room with the Statue, TAKE the Ankh of Sobek (セベクのアンク) and Golden Arrow (きんのゆみや). Select the Agate Gem (めのうのたま) in your inventory and point at the empty eye socket. USE (はめる) the the Agate Gem (めのうのたま) and a small sequence will start. You will automatically go to... Sand Tower: (すなのとう) ``````````` Convenient Map: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/fds/file/578451/51607 ---------- | Treasure | ---------- | ---------- | Door | ---------- | ------ ---------- | Hole |-| | /------ ---------- / | | ------ ---------- ----------- | | |-| |-| King Naga | | ------ ---------- ----------- | | | ---------- ----------- | | |-| | | ---------- ----------- | | \ ------ ---------- | Ankh | | | ------ ---------- | ------ ---------- ----------- | Rest |-| |-| Fire Naga | ------ ---------- ----------- | ---------- ----------- | |-| | ---------- ----------- | ------ ---------- | |-| | ------ ---------- | ------ ---------- ----------- | |-| |-| Thun Naga | ------ ---------- ----------- | ---------- ----------- | Entrance |-| Gra. Naga | ---------- ----------- The tower has enemies again, and tough ones compared to be before. If you did not level up in town much then you must return there before taking these foes on. There are now two ways to continue. The long and safe way is to stick around the bottom of the tower and fight easier enemies like the Bats and Scorpions, get some cash collected to buy the sword. With that you can even defeat the Anubis and Toto foes, but still struggle. When you have gained a couple of levels you can venture higher up, use the Inn of sorts which costs 250G and then continue from there. The quick and risky way is to run up the tower and get the even stronger sword, then catch up with your levels by bashing all the enemies later. I prefer the second approach but it's really up to you. Do not accidentally venture into any of the rooms on the right as some contain a forced fight with a powerful Naga. If you are looking for the Cobra, it only appears in an empty room when trying to read the hieroglyphs on the wall. Once you have defeated it you can read the hieroglyphs. There is only one Cobra to defeat. Go up on the 9th floor (not counting the half-steps in-between) and go into the room on the left. You may want to consult the map for this. If not, just keep on checking the rooms on the left but stay clear of the right ones. When you reach the correct room there is a hole in the floor. USE (もちものつかう) the Rope (ロープ) on the hole to descend into a new room. READ (みる) the hieroglyphs on the wall, then INSERT (はめる) the Ankh of Maato (マアトのアンク) into the right slot and the Ankh of Sobek (セベクのアンク) into the left slot. TAKE (とる) the Bronze Key (せいどうのカギ). Leave the room (it is one-way) and climb the tower all the way up to the top. USE (もちものつかう) the Bronze Key (せいどうのカギ) in the door to unlock it, then OPEN (あける) it. TAKE (とる) Anubis' Sword (アヌビスのつるぎ). This is the most powerful sword to replace the one you bought recently. USE (もちものつかう) the Match (マッチ) on the lamp and then TAKE (とる) the Rainbow Decoration (にじのかざり) that is floating above. At this point you really have to level up to beat the Nagas in the tower. If you don't mind paying extra then the Inn here will do, else run back and forth to save that extra cash. The three lower Nagas are not too bad to defeat, but King Naga requires a little extra oomph. I suggest starting with the Grass Naga at the bottom floor. It has no special attacks. If you can beat it easily, then attempt the Thunder and Fire Nagas in that order. They both have strong special attacks to take you out in one hit if you are at low levels, thus you really have to work on that first. I suggest at least Level 8, but 7 is still ok if you are near full health for the fight. When you defeat the Grass Naga, OPEN (あける) the chest to find the Eye of Horus (ホルスのめ). After defeating the Thunder Naga, OPEN (あける) the chest to find the Magic Medicine (まほうのくすり). This gains you a 512 HP boost to make it back to the rest area. I think it is supposed to be kept for later but something isn't right...not sure if I made a mistake there. The Fire Naga enables to the chest with Sandals (サンダル) inside. With the three easier Nagas defeated, you can level up a bit more for the last one. It is much faster to level up with Anubi's Sword and plenty of health. When you have money you can buy the shield in town for 5,000 Gold. You need to be Level 10 to beat the King Naga and have the Lamella Armor. Else you will die within two rounds. Its hits are just too powerful and your HP dwindles really quickly. The armor costs 20,000 Gold which should not be too much trouble raising in the tower, and you will be set with equipment for now. After beating the last Naga, OPEN (あける) the chest to find a necklace (くびかざり). Town: (まち) ````` Go to the sourvenir shop and GIVE (あげる) the owner the necklace (くびかざり), then buy the flute (ふえ) for 500 Gold. As you leave you will notice a new CLOSED sign at the door. Walk over to the 2nd Hand Shop and buy the Lamp (ランプ) for 200 Gold. If you tried to do that earlier he will not have it, because you had to find the necklace first. Lake: (みずうみ) ````` Use the Flute (ふえ) on the statues mouth to open it up. TAKE (とる) out the Silver Feather (ぎんのはね). Goddess Temple: (めがみのしんでん) ``````````````` PLACE (のせる) the Rainbow Decoration (にじのかざり) on the plate the middle statue is holding. You will see the decoration if you did it correctly and get an "OK!" message. PLACE (のせる) the Golden Arrow (きんのゆみや)on the left statue. You will also see this if you did it right. PRAY (いのる) to open up the new passage back at the Sphinx. Sphinx: (スフィンクス) ``````` Climb up to the room and enter the new passage. Take (よる) the gold feather (ぎんゎわろ) from the scale. The room will go dark. Place (ゎせる) the silver feather (きんゎわろ) back on the scale to return everything back to normal. Note: do not mistake the two feathers, the japanese writing may look very similar but they are different. Goddess Temple: (めがみのしんでん) ``````````````` PLACE (のせる) the Gold Feather (ぎんのはね) into the arms of the right statue. When you see this, go right to the other room and DESCEND (おりる) into the underground. Goddess Temple Underground: (めがみしんでん) `````````````````````````` Convenient Map: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/fds/file/578451/51838 ---------- | Statue | ---------- | ---------- | | ---------- | ---------- | | ---------- | ---------- | | ---------- | ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- | Sphinx A | | Sphinx B | | | | Sphinx C | ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- | | | | ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- <-| | | | | | | |-> ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- | ---------- | | ---------- | ---------- | | ---------- | ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- | Healing | | Poison | | | | | ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- | | | | ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- <-| | | | | | | |-> ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- | ---------- | Entrance | ---------- First thing, use the Lamp (ランプ) anywhere in the room to get some light down here. Use the Ankh of Isis (イシスのアンク) on the door to get through. Like the other places where you fight enemies (these are the toughest in the game) there is a healing room. Drink (のむ) to refresh your health. Be careful not to be into the room with the poisonous water by mistake because you lose 200 HP instead. Your first task is to make it to the three rooms that possibly spawn a Sphinx. You need to be at a full health at the recommend level from before, or higher, as well as having all the armor available. If you meet more than 1 enemy on the way from the healing spot then you might as well forget about it, because you won't last longer than 3 rounds. You may just go for the highest level available to make this a breeze, I do not quite understand the incredible difficult level Square have set for this game. When you have defeated one of the Sphinx, they will drop a chest for you to OPEN (あける). In room A you receive the Wind Flute (かぜのふえ), in Room B the Cane of Amun (アメンのつえ) and in Room C the Sun Mirror (たいようのカガミ). You can meet another Sphinx in the rooms afterwards, but they will not drop any more chests. The Cane of Amun allows for one-hit deaths which you may want to get first, but it can also fail to meet the target. It is useful if you are into desperate attacks, such as against the Sphinx. It does not work on the final boss if you are wondering. Continue north when you have collected everything until you hit the area with mist. Use the Wind Flute (かぜのふえ) to remove the mist. TALK (はなす) to Karado's Messenger. With the next move you will fight, and you better be at full health because it is tough. You cannot beat the messenger but you can turn her into Karado himself by using the Sun Mirror (たいようのカガミ). This is where the actual fight starts so keep attacking until he dies. OPEN (あける) the chest for a Necklace (くびかざり). Proceed through the door and PLACE (はめる) the Tear of Isis (イシスのなみだ) around the statue, then MOVE (うごかす) it to finish the game.
