INTRODUCTION: Hao-kun no Fushigi na Tabi is actually a pretty entertaining FDS platform/adventure game. It wasn't brought integrally to the West because of its relative difficulty, but was chopped into an easier version called "Mystery Quest". The main difference between both versions seems to be the altered difficulty and the removal, on the US version, of the whole second underground (3-A to 3-Z) world, along with the last two castles. So, if you like Mystery Quest, this game's a must. You control Hao, a little magician apprentice who was sent by his master to the most important quest in the world: retrieving the Symbols that represent the things every person needs, or something on that line. Anyway, Hao's pretty useless at the beginning since he can't do a single thing. You got to collect power-ups along the adventure to increase your skills. The game is divided in a main area (the overworld) and castles, where you collect the Symbols and fight multiple bosses. There are six castles and three levels on this main area (from 1-A to 1-Z, then down into the underground from 2-Z to 2-A and finally even lower from 3-A to 3-Z). I've divided the walkthrough in two parts, one being a quick reference. I strongly recommend you read it instead of trying to check the full thing, since most of the walkthrough parts have no really useful info (it is just a platform game, after all). The only sections I recommend reading fully, in case you need help, are the castles, which are real mazes. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2. ITEMS: I've divided the items you get in four categories for easy reference: >>> COMMON: SIGN: the signs with arrows on the main area are used as checkpoints, and are worth 100 points as well. In case you're wondering what a checkpoint does, it brings you back to that place in case you die. If you die in a castle, though, you'll always be brought to the beginning of it. STAR: the stars usually appear when you step on a trigger-floor, and are worth 1,000 points if you shoot at them. But you'll probably prefer grabbing them so they can fill a little of your energy bar. HEALING STAR: also heals your energy, but a lot more than ordinary stars. These can only be found by killing certain enemies at certain parts of the game. HEALING MOON: best healing item, completely fills your energy bar. FLOWER VASE: exist only in castles. Destroy the flowers for 100 points. >>> POWER UP: HAO DOLL: this small doll with Hao's face increases the size of your energy bar, permanently. A must-get. ROLL OF MAGIC: first weapon. Allows you to destroy enemies and blocks. STICK OF POWER: second weapon upgrade. Can destroy stronger blocks. CRYSTAL OF MAGIC: third and most powerful weapon upgrade. Can destroy any sort of block, as long as it's not just scenery. MAGICAL MEDICINE: arm upgrade. Allows you to push and slide ice blocks. POWERED BOOTS: leg upgrade. Allows you to break some blocks by jumping on them. FASTER BOOTS: second leg upgrade. Allows you to run faster by continuously pressing the shot button. POWERED HELMET: head upgrade. Allows you to break some blocks by hitting them with your head from below. SUPER MANTLE: Hao always loses energy gradually over time. The mantle cancels this, forever. >>> BONUS: WIZARD HAT: it's worth a whooping 10,000 points bonus. BROOM: same as the Wizard Hat, it's worth 10,000 points. DOUBLE SCORE: if you plan to break a record or something, don't miss any of those. They do exactly what they sound to - double your current score. MAGIC LAMP: gives you temporary invincibility. Grab and run. >>> SYMBOLS: Symbols don't do anything for you, but you just must collect them to exit the dungeons. The symbols you can get, in order of appearance, are Symbol of Money, Symbol of Health, Symbol of Knowledge, Symbol of Heart, Symbol of Family and Symbol of Peace. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3. QUICK WALKTHROUGH REFERENCE: Since this is a sort of 2D platform game, and pretty linear, an FAQ as a whole may seen unnecessary, since on most parts you won't need any help. As a quick reference for parts you SHOULD read, I've built this section which lists where to get the most important items. To go to that part on the full walkthrough, simply search for the name of the section (i.e. 1-A). Important Power-Ups: 1-A: Roll of Magic 1-C: Hao Doll 1-D: Hao Doll Castle I: Powered Boots (item e) Castle I: Hao Doll (item h) 1-Q: Hao Doll Castle II: Hao Doll (item e) Castle II: Powered Helmet (item g) 2-V: Hao Doll Castle III: Faster Boots (item d) Castle IV: Magical Medicine (item c) 2-A: Hao Doll 3-F: Hao Doll Castle V: Hao Doll (item i) Castle V: Stick of Power (item c) 3-Z: Crystal of Magic Castle VI: Hao Doll (item a) Castle VI: Super Mantle (item c) Important Bonus: 1-C: Wizard Hat Castle I: Double Score (item i) 1-W: Magic Lamp 1-Y: Wizard Hat Castle II: Broom (item d) 2-W: Magic Lamp Castle III: Wizard Hat (item j) 2-K: Double Score Castle IV: Double Score (item c) Castle IV: Broom (item d) 3-E: Magic Lamp 3-K: Wizard Hat Castle V: Wizard Hat (item g) 3-N: Magic Lamp 3-S: Wizard Hat ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3. COMPLETE WALKTHROUGH: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// MAIN AREA: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// 1-A: ENEMIES: None ITEMS: Roll of Magic GUIDE: a) As soon as you start, you will notice a sign behind you. Get the sign for 100 extra points if you care. b) At the end of the section, there will be a hidden scroll behind the set of three bushes. Touch it and it should slide to the right, then grab it when it stops behind the green block. Now you have the Magic Ball and can kill enemies. 1-B: ENEMIES: Serpent, Bat, Lobster ITEMS: None GUIDE: a) Right at the start you'll see a set of trees. Climb them so you can go over the ground and avoid the annoying Serpent rushing down there. As you are about to jump off the tree, be careful with the Bat that comes towards you and with the skull ground, which takes energy from you. b) Watch out for the hidden Lobster behind the bushes. Your shots won't hit enemies when they're behind objects so be sure to avoid it as it walks towards you. 1-C: ENEMIES: Serpent, Bat, Lobster ITEMS: Wizard Hat, Hao Doll GUIDE: a)Start by going straightforward until you see a small tree. Watch out for the Lobster near the tree, because they can jump on the small trees (and will) to get you. Climb to the top of the big tree and you will find the Wizard hat, an item worth 10,000 points. Touch it and run to the right as it slides to 1-D. 1-D: ENEMIES: Lobster ITEMS: Hao Doll, Star GUIDE: a) Watch out for the first Lobster right after you grab the hat. Now you can see a Hao Doll. Go there and jump fast through the water so you don't lose much HP. Grab the doll and, when you go back, a Lobster may fall from the upper floor. You may "ride" on it and walk along to cross the pool of water safely on your way back. b) Now that you have the doll, climb the first small tree right after that to activate a Star. Grab it for a little energy. c) Just keep going right, jump on the spring before the wall and watch out for the Lobster up there. 1-E: ENEMIES: Bat, Serpent ITEMS: Star (2) GUIDE: a) Climb the first set of trees to get a Healing Star on the taller one. When you jump to the bridge watch out for a Bat and a Serpent that will attack you. b) After you avoid the bats, you'll get to a part with two hills, a cloud and skull traps on the floor. Guess you've figured out you need to ride the cloud to make it through over the traps. However riding the cloud may get a little tricky. It gives a big boost to you in the direction it's moving. When the cloud moves right, if you jump you'll be boosted right. However if it turns around in the middle of your jump, you strangely will be boosted left (!) all of a sudden. So when you jump be sure the cloud won't be turning around before you start falling. I suggest you dominate the cloud-riding technique ( :P ) here since there will be way harder parts like this later on. Notice if you manage to get proper boost, you may end up on the top of the right hill, and there will be a healing star there. 1-F: ENEMIES: Dragonfly, Lobster ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) Just go right and watch out for the dragonflies. At the end of the 1F part there will be a set of three trees, the first one has a Star. 1-G: ENEMIES: Lobster, Porcupine ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) Climb the set of trees that starts on the 1F section and go up to the leaf platform. Kill the Lobster there and stand right above the middle log. Hold Down and you will fall on that log, just to find out a healing Star. b) You'll find a hole with two spring pillars. This is a practice area for using spring-pillars, I suggest you practice here until you've mastered it. When you jump towards a spring wall, you can jump again on it and gain extra boost. Watch out for the porcupines right after. 1-H: ENEMIES: Lobster ITEMS: None GUIDE: a) Just go right and jump over the water pit to 1-I. If you fall, you'll die. Take care with the Lobster right after the pit; if it hits you, you may be thrown back and fall. 1-I: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent, Wasp ITEMS: Star (2) GUIDE: a)The first short log you see will have a Star, so jump on it. b) Watch out for a porcupine after the sign. When you get to the set of trees, climb them, grab the star on the middle one, and wait on the taller tree. You'll want to go to the block platform below, but a porcupine will come running from the upper one. You must do a trigger fake jump to the right, attract the enemy and fall back on the tree. He will fall, now you jump right and reach the platform. 1-J: ENEMIES: Porcupine, Serpent, Lobster ITEMS: Healing Moon GUIDE: a) Keep going to the right until you find a green hole. You can safely fall there, and you'll be on a 2-J secret passage. Follow it and you'll find a Healing Moon, which will fill your HP - but watch out for the Serpent and the Lobster. Now you can go back up. 1-K: ENEMIES: Lobster, Dragonfly ITEMS: Star (2) GUIDE: a) Right at the beginning you'll see a tall tree. Jump on it, then onto the smaller one and you'll find a star. The shortest tree to the right also has a star. 1-L: ENEMIES: Dragonfly, Lobster ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) The first short log has a star. 1-M: ENEMIES: Lobster, Wasp ITEMS: GUIDE: a) See the pyramid of blocks over the block platform? You may destroy it if you want, with the Magic Ball. Then kill the Wasps that will come after you. b) It's the first castle of the game. Now enter it to retrieve the first of the magic items. (To enter the castle, stay in front of the door and hold up). =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// CASTLE I: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent BOSS: RAT ITEMS: Healing Moon (4), Powered Boots, Symbol of Money, Hao Doll, Double Score BOSS STRATEGY: It's hard to avoid being hit by the rat's bubbles, but you'll want to assume a defensive position nonetheless. Keep a good distance from the rat when it shows up, and keep shooting wildly, so you can destroy his bubbles before they get to you _and_ hit the rat before he runs back. GUIDE: a) Go right and jump to the upper platform to 1-B, then keep going right and fall to the bottom platform (floor). b) Follow the arrows to the first door and enter it. c) Go left and climb the upper platform. Now take a deep breath because you'll fight the first boss of the game, a giant rat that fires bubbles at you. After you kill him, grab the Healing Moon and go back to the 1-D using the key on the door (just enter the door as you'd normally do). d) Go right but watch out for the Serpent that will fall from the platform above. Safely hide on the small block pending from the mid-level platform and shoot the "stairs" in front of you to destroy it and open a passage. Follow the arrows until you get to another door, and enter. Prepare to face the boss yet once more. e) You'll see the Powered Boots right above you when you enter. After you kill the boss, keep on the bottom floor and shoot the blocks to the right. They will be destroyed, revealing another Healing Moon. Then you may get the Key the boss had dropped, the Boots, and get out through the same door you came. f) Now with those boots you can break some floors. Start by breaking the floor right below the door (break by jumping on them). Follow the arrows to the right until you find yet another door. g) Enter the door, go to the right and kill the rat again. Grab the key, climb up, and find the Symbol of Money. If you're wondering how you get that Healing Moon trapped below you, just use your mighty shoes and break the floor to get to it. Then break the floor once again to fall over the door and go back through it. h) Climb the pile of blocks in front of you, and stay on top of it. You should see two rooms below, one of them with flowers. You need to break the floor twice to get to the bottom. When you're on the bottom, shoot the wall to the right to reveal a Hao Doll. Then go right, follow the arrows and you'll find another door. Enter it (no bosses this time, don't worry). i) Now you're on the final part of the dungeon. But this time you will NOT follow the arrows. Instead, climb the block stairs to the right until you hit a wall. Destroy this wall to find a secret room with some neat stuff. Before getting the item on the bottom, shoot all flowers to get the points. Then go for the Double Score. j) Go back to the door. Go left, grab the Healing Moon on the top-most floor and exit through the stone doorway. You're done with this dungeon. =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// OUT FROM CASTLE I: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// 1-N: ENEMIES: Serpent, Porcupine, Dragonfly ITEMS: None GUIDE: a) Now that you've got the Powered Boots, you can go to the right and break the two-blocks floor on the huge block structure. b) After the block-stairs, take the upper platform and watch out for porcupines. After you go down be very careful with the set of bushes, since there may be a hidden porcupine behind one of them. 1-O: ENEMIES: Dragonfly, Serpent ITEMS: Star (2) GUIDE: a) Follow straight ahead until you get to a set of trees. The middle one has a star, so grab it. Right after you grab the star, keep climbing to the top (leaf platform), and stand above the first trunk with leafs. Hold down and fall on it, just to find another Star. Now go to the ground again and keep following to 1-P. 1-P: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent ITEMS: Star (4) GUIDE: a) More health filling here. Keep walking until you find a set of two trunks. Climb them to reach the leaf platform above you. On this platform there will be a hidden "conveyor belt". It will boost your jumps to the left. What you got to do here is to go down to all trunks holding the platform, and the other one to the left, grabbing all the stars they hold. Star bonanza. b) Go left and, after the pool of water, when you find another log, jump on it and grab yet another star. 1-Q: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent ITEMS: Hao Doll GUIDE: a) After you grab that last star on 1-P, jump over the water and follow the bottom path, then climb the next trunk. Go to the upper right and jump the set of three block pillars to make it to other side. b) After you climb the "stairs", go over the bridge (watch out for lobsters), and notice that cloud under it. Apparently there's nothing on the other side of the big pool of water, but take a ride on the cloud, go there and destroy the blocks with your Magic Ball and find a Hao Doll. Then go right for 1-R. 1-R: ENEMIES: Bat, Mole ITEMS: Star (3) GUIDE: a) See the candle up there? Climb up to it and destroy the candle, it's worth one star. The shortest trunk also has a star. b) Following to the right, you'll see two hills. Watch out, for a mole will keep trying to hit you from underground, around the spot between the hills. Jump over the "valley" and climb the set of trees - the second one has a star. 1-S: ENEMIES: Bat, Lobster, Serpent, Porcupine ITEMS: Star (3) GUIDE: a) Climb the trees to reach the leaf platform. One of the first trees holding the platform, and the last, will have a star for you. After you grab those, go back and stand above the smallest trunk under the "forest". Hold down, you'll fall on it and find another star. Now follow to the right. 1-T: ENEMIES: Lobster ITEMS: none GUIDE: a) Just go right to 1-U. 1-U: ENEMIES: Dragonfly, Lobster ITEMS: None GUIDE: a) On the set of trunks, the middle one has a star. 1-V: ENEMIES: Mole ITEMS: None GUIDE: a) After the pool of water and the hill, watch out for a mole on the ground. Next, you'll need to double jump on the spring wall to make it through. 1-W: ENEMIES: Lobster, Dragonfly ITEMS: Magic Lamp GUIDE: a) After the block "maze" full of lobsters, you shall see a three-block-tall set of stairs. Destroy it to find a Magic Lamp inside. Before you get it and start running, read this if you need a healing star: After you get the lamp, notice there will be three lobsters ahead of you. You can only see the first when you get the lamp. Kill all three of them and the third one will produce a sliding (healing) star. If you kill him walking from left to right, the star will slide to nowhere and vanish. If you want to grab it, kill the last lobster walking from right to left instead, so you follow the star and are able to get it before it vanishes. I just wrote this for the sake of completeness, since I warn you NOT to worry about the star. The section that comes ahead now is very, very hard, you must make full use of your Magic Lamp and run as fast as you can to the right. 1-X: ENEMIES: Lobster, Bat ITEMS: None GUIDE: a) Run! 1-Y: ENEMIES: Serpent, Bat ITEMS: Star, Wizard Hat GUIDE: a) Keep running some more. When you find a set of trunks, climb to the taller one and grab a star. Your invincibility should be over by now, so just take your time and destroy the block-stairs after the water pools to find a wizard hat. 1-Z: ENEMIES: Dragonfly ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) Congratulations, you've found the second castle. Before you enter it, grab the star on the small trunk just a little to the right of the castle. =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// CASTLE II: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent BOSS: BEETLE ITEMS: Healing Moon (4), Broom, Hao Doll, Powered Helmet, Symbol of Health BOSS STRATEGY: The giant beetle moves just like the rat. The strategy itself remains the same, defensive. The difference now is that the beetle's shots aren't bubbles, but homing spark missiles. After they're "fired", they run in circles around you until they hit you. If you keep a good distance and keep shooting wildly at the beetle, you should be able to destroy most of the sparks. If any spark remains chasing you after the beetle is dead, destroy it so it doesn't end up hitting you. GUIDE: a) Follow the arrows for starters, until you find two doors, one beside the other. Keep shooting all the way through and you'll find some useless shortcuts on the block-maze. b) The second door just has three flowers (300 points). You should take the first door to go on. Door 1 c) Here you follow to the right, on the upper platform, until you find the boss, a giant beetle. Kill it, and go all the way around to the bottom platform, then go all way left until you see a locked door protected by block-stairs. Go the way around the blocks and reach that door, but before you enter destroy the blocks to the right of it and grab a more than welcome healing moon. d) Go right, and when you see a room with some flowers in it, destroy the right wall there to go inside a secret room for points. Shoot the flowers, descend that structure and notice the "=>" sign on the upper level. Before you follow it, keep on the bottom level, go over the pile of blocks and destroy the right side of it to find a broom for 10,000 points. Now it's your choice to go to the right through the upper level or the bottom one. The bottom has stake traps, very harmful, but some flowers. The top platform is a free path with a couple lobsters. Any way you choose, you should find two more doors at the end of it. Door 2 e) The first door is completely useless so go for the second one. Go around the block maze to reach the top platform after it. Don't bother destroying blocks for now. Keep going to the right on the top level and you'll find the beetle again. Kill it for the key, and go back. On the screen where you see a flower vase trapped in the bottom, there's a pyramid-like structure on the top. Destroy the right side of it to grab a Healing Moon. Now go all the way to the right, until it's not possible to walk no more. There should be a water pool beneath you. Keep jumping over it (a little to the left) and you'll find some floor which may be destroyed with your boots. Go down and, behind the pillar, you'll find a hidden Hao Doll. It will slide when you touch it, so make sure you DON'T make it slide into the water, but to the left. Now destroy the left wall and keep going left through the central level, you'll find a locked door. Enter it. f) Going to the right, once again you'll find trapped flowers. Destroy the right wall to get them. Then it will appear you have only one choice, following the top arrow (the central path is a dead-end). But there's an arrow on the bottom too, so jump to break the floor over that bottom arrow and fall there to follow a safe, spikes-free path to the third door. Door 3 g) Not much to do, grab the key and enter the door. Then you'll be back in the main area, on the same room as the Powered Helmet. Take it. Now you're able to break some blocks with your head too. Start breaking ceilings above the flower vase to the right, to get to the door up there. Enter it. h) Fall from where you are and hit the bottom. Go right until you find a locked door and two pyramid-like structures. Stay on the top of the second one and be ready to fight the beetle again. After you get the key, double-jump to reach the top platform and go to the end of it. Keep shooting fast and you'll destroy a wall, uncovering a Healing Moon. Now go all way back to the place you first jumped from. You will see a pool of water. Double jump over it and destroy the wall to the left so you'll open a shortcut to the exit. Now, if you want yet another Healing Moon, jump to the mid-level platform, go a little way left and destroy a wall. Anyway, you should follow through the bottom level to the left until you find a locked door. Open it, grab the Symbol of Health and go back, entering the same door you came from. Now you can get out of this place. Just go a little way left and you'll find the stone doorway. Leave! =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// OUT FROM CASTLE II: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// 1-Z: ENEMIES: Lobster ITEMS: Star, Healing Moon GUIDE: a) Head right and jump on the trunk for a star. Now that you've got the helmet, you can hit the ceiling of the huge block structure to open a passage. You're going underground. You may fall on the big hole on the ground, so you'll be on 2-Z. But before proceeding onto the subterranean tunnels, climb back up to 1-Z, and find a Healing Moon on the right side of the screen. Then go back down. 2-Z: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent ITEMS: None GUIDE: a) Go left avoiding the lobsters and through the pillar "maze", using the springs. On the final part of this spring thing, watch out for a Serpent that will come fast from the left; wait for it to fall, then jump. 2-Y: ENEMIES: Lobster, Mole ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) Now on the underground there aren't trees anymore. Now you need to jump on some sort of pipe for finding stars. The first one you see here on 2-Y has a star, so jump on it. Go to the upper platform and you'll see a candle, which also holds a star. Now there's a trick here. If you want to grab the stars from candles in the underground, you must hit them from the bottom (stay under it, hold up and shoot), so that the stars don't appear ABOVE the ceiling. Every candle contains a star. 2-X: ENEMIES: Lobster ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) Go left, keeping yourself on the floor level, and climb the pillar under the block platform for a star. 2-W: ENEMIES: Lobster, Porcupine, Mole ITEMS: Magic Lamp (get later) GUIDE: a) Follow to the left and watch out for the first Lobster. When you try to jump on the spring, a Porcupine will fall over your head also. When you are on the top of the high block "building", be careful when you fall since another porcupine will be running towards you down there. So slowly go to the tip of the "building" and only fall when the porcupine is heading the other way. When you see a crossway, take the top path, the one with a Porcupine. There's a Mole down there. 2-V: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent ITEMS: Hao-Kun Doll GUIDE: a) As soon as you get to this part, fall to the left where you can see a spring. There's a long stair-like structure, stay in front of it and start shooting until you destroy everything you can. Now count five steps from the spring and jump on the floor to reveal a hidden Hao-Kun Doll. Now that you have it go back to the Mole on 2-W and go left through the floor level. At the dead-end destroy the wall to find a Magic Lamp. Get it and now run through the rest of the floor while it lasts. (Note: if for some reason you can't get invincible to pass through the water trap running, there's a breakable floor right before it). 2-U: ENEMIES: Lobsters, Serpent ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) The first pillar has a star. After you get it, you should reach some platforms over the water. On this part be very careful before jumping: watch out for the Lobsters or they'll hit you and throw you on the water. 2-T: ENEMIES: Lobster, Bat ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) The second pillar has a star. Just go straight left to 2-S and ignore the Healing Moon down there, you can't have it now, only much later when you're on 3-S. Anyway, be careful with the bats. 2-S: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent, Bat ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) Right at the start jump-kill both Serpents on the double pillars and fall on those for a star. Next there's a trick. There'll be a U-shaped corridor, but instead of falling, jump towards the wall and shoot it to make a passage through it, so you don't need to worry about the nasty spring and Lobster. 2-R: ENEMIES: Serpent, Bat, Porcupine ITEMS: GUIDE: a) The only thing I can say is, be very careful to not get hit by Serpents or Bats. And memorize this trick, you'll only have one chance of performing it and save energy: when you see water and three hanging platforms (4 blocks, 1 block, 1 block), slowly walk over the 4-block one and wait for the bat to pass under you. After he's gone jump to the first 1-block and keep crouched, so the Serpent will run over you. After you've escaped from both the Bat and Serpent, go left and when you fall avoid the porcupine. Now on this part I couldn't make up a plan in order to not lose energy. When you go left two porcupines will fall from the ceiling, and if you go back a Serpent will fall from the right. So my best advice is for you to go all way left, being hit by the porcupines, but don't go back. After they pass by you, kill them (without going back), and use the spring with your highest jump (3rd) to go to the top-left. If you have problems getting boosted by the springs, you may want to try destroying the blocks to the right of them to make a platform. Watch out for the porcupine up there. 2-Q: ENEMIES: Lobster ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) The first pillar contains a star. Watch out for the Bat on the spring pillars, and train your spring-jumping here if you need to. In the next part you may go either down or up, but I'd rather avoid water. 2-P: ENEMIES: Lobster, Mole ITEMS: Star (2), Healing Star GUIDE: a) The first pillar has a star. Easy one, you can't avoid falling on the pillar. The next pillar you see will also contain a star. When you reach the top structure close to the ceiling, kill the Lobsters, one of them may have a Healing Star for you. 2-O: ENEMIES: Lobster, Bat ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) Just go left. When you see three pillars, the middle one has a star. 2-N: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent, Dragonfly ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) When you see a three way split right after the pillars take the central one, and wait on the left tip of it while a Lobster falls. Then climb the structure and keep going. b) Destroy the candle for an easy star, but be careful with the water. c) Always destroy the dragonflies over the water from a distance before proceeding or they'll throw you in the water. Go left and enter castle three. =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// CASTLE III: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent BOSS: MANTIS ITEMS: Healing Moon (4), Faster Boots, Wizard Hat, Symbol of Knowledge BOSS STRATEGY: If you don't wan to lose energy, maybe the best strategy is shooting and running. Hit it a very few times and then run away dodging his shots. I think the best way to defeat him, though, is a suicide attack: run towards him and shoot as fast as you can until he dies. Every Mantis will have a Healing Moon nearby, anyway. GUIDE: a) Go right all the way until you hit a dead-end, where you can jump on a platform to follow to the left. It's full of spikes up there, so destroy the first block with your boots (before the trap) and go below them. Destroy the left "stairs" for exiting and climb to the left. Enter the door. Door 1 b) Destroy the left wall and go left to fight the boss. After you've killed him, go back right to the place where the three paths (up, mid, low) start and destroy (shot) the bottom structure for a Healing Moon. c) Go all the way left through the upper path to the locked door. In order to not get hurt on the spikes, try high-jumping over them. Enter the door. d) Now that you're back on the other level go a little way right to grab the incredible Faster Boots. Now you can run if you keep shooting fast. Enter the unlocked door. Door 2: e) Start by going right and knock the ceiling, where the key is, with your Powered Helmet. It will break and the key should fall down. Enter the locked door to the left. f) Go all the way right, watching out for the water and enemies, until you can go back through the top-most path. Do so, and use your Faster Boots to jump over the hole without falling on the water down there. Enter the third door by following the U-shaped path. Door 3: g) Go right to get the upper path. Follow through there and destroy the Mantis a second time. Now before you proceed, grab another nearby Healing Moon. Check the upper path you're in, see the spot between the sign and the luster? Jump-break it to fall to the bottom and carefully jump over the water to the left (if you're not confident about this, don't try it). Destroy all the wall blocks to the left to find the Healing Moon. Keep destroying the wall and going left to get to the door. h) Just follow the signs on the wall and destroy the wall on the right-end to go back through the upper path. Notice you can go either through the central (spikes) or bottom (water) path, by destroying walls. I'd rather follow the mid one, since water means instant-kill (and, if you run the spikes won't hit you). Door 4: i) Go left to the bottom path and prepare to kill the Mantis. After you've obtained the key, go all the way left destroying the walls on your way and, before entering the door, destroy the blocks to the left of it for another Healing Moon. j) Jump to the mid-level. Here you may want to use the Lobster as a jump-boost to reach the top-level and make a shortcut, instead of doing the annoying U-shaped circuit, going all the way right then all the way left. But before you do so, you may want to go a little way right, jump over the first hole, and destroy the stair of blocks between three signs and two water pools for a Wizard Hat. You'll have to jump over a water pool then. Anyway, go to the door on the left of upper-level when you're done. Door 5: k) Go left through the bottom-way and destroy the Mantis for getting a key. As usual, you'll also find a Healing Moon nearby. Go all way left and destroy the stairs to the right of the last pillar, before the locked door, for getting it. Then enter the door (do a running jump to go over the hole). l) Just get the Symbol of Knowledge and enter the unlocked door. Door 6: m) Although you can destroy the right-wall and even jump over the water, don't bother. There's nothing on the other side but some flower vases. His rays are fast, and he can move between floors quickly. Since it's almost impossible to avoid his quick shots, I recommend you stay always on a different level than his. And the best option is fighting BENEATH him. So when you fight a Squid always stay at the lower level possible. When he's on the level above you, you calmly wait for him to go to the same level, but wait as close to him as possible (but not close enough so that he falls on you). As soon as he gets to your level, shoot him fast and he will run to another level before even touching you. Repeat this boring and dangerous process until you have killed him, hopefully losing way less energy than you would by trying to face him directly. GUIDE a) Go into the door above you first, by proceeding to the left. You'll end up on 2-P. Then destroy the wall to the left to find a key. Now that you got the key, you may go back to the start to grab a Healing Moon if you want, so you won't fight the Squid there. I don't think it's necessary though, since there'll be another moon nearby. Anyway, if you want to get that moon, read (b), but be sure you have some energy to lose since you'll have to walk on spikes to get it. b) After you have the key from 2-P, go back to 1-A and head to 2-C, entering the door. You'll be on 2-N. Go left and notice the structure over the spikes on 2-M/2-N. The moon is hidden deep inside that trap. What you got to do is destroy as many blocks as you can before stepping on the trap, then running fast to destroy the last ones, grab the moon and go back. Jump a lot, since you aren't hit when jumping. Then go back to 2-P. c) Now you're on 2-P. Don't destroy the left wall aimlessly. Destroy the top-most blocks of it only, then the first two of the middle. Climb on what is left, and destroy the ceiling. Go up there, and to the right. Before entering the door, get the Double Score hidden behind the pillar. Then enter the door and you'll find the Magical Medicine. Now go back to the 2-P door and destroy the left wall. Go left to fall to the bottom level, go right to 2-A and destroy the wall blocking your way, then switch to the central level. There'll be a zigzag-like maze here; on the last block of the maze, hit the ceiling with your helmet to find a destructible spot. Go up there. Behind the first pillar there'll be a hidden Healing Moon. When you touch it it will start sliding until it hits something, so touch it and run fast. When you finally grab it, go back to the central level. If the spot you had broken happens to be closed again, go all the way to the left and there'll breakable floor just below the luster. Go all the way right to 2-D on the mid-level and destroy the floor between the pillar and the flower vases (just above the sign) to access the locked door. Enter it. d) Now you're on 1-M. Your first impulse will be to run right and jump the pool but DON'T. A lobster is coming the other way; if you do so the lobster will push you into the water. Calmly go right, wait for the lobster to kill itself and then you jump safely. You can't run so do a normal jump at the tip of the trap. Go up one level and destroy the ceiling right above the vase. Use the structure around the vase to climb up there (you can climb on the "tunnels" with red borders). Now from the upper level go right to the hole on 1-K. The door down there is the one you should take to follow on. If you do not care for getting a Broom (worth 10,000 points), skip to (f). Notice it will be a long detour for that Broom, a detour with a Squid and a Healing Moon. e) The Broom: from where you are on 1-K, you got to jump to the other side of the hole. Get a good distance, run the faster you can and jump from the tip, you'll do it. On 1-I, use the salient block on the mid-level as a jump-boost to either left or right (when you're coming back). Then go all way right to the Door 2, on 1-G. Fall down there, and enter the door. You're on 2-J now. Go right and destroy the Squid to get a new key. After you've killed it, go all the way left and you'll find a locked door. But before you enter it, go to the upper level and keep running fast to the right. You'll eventually hit a Healing Moon behind a pillar and it will slide to the right, stopping on a nearby block. Get it, then you can go back to the locked door. You'll be back on 1-G, but now inside a weird block-structure. Destroy all the blocks on the mid-level and you'll find the Broom. To escape this place, destroy the blocks on the right-most part of the ceiling, and then go all the way back to door 3 on 1-K. Before you enter it, be sure you ALREADY HAVE the Magical Medicine from (b), or else you'll have to die. f) Assuming you have the Magical Medicine, enter door 3, you'll be on 2-G. Go right and kill the Squid for a key. Then you must go left to 2-E to the locked door. But wait, there'll be some water pools on your way. If you're not confident on your jumping, you may want to go all the way right, climb to the upper level, then all the way left to 2-D, and you may then fall to the locked door. Before you enter it, destroy the left wall and grab a Healing Moon. g) Entering the door will lead you to 1-L. Now be very careful, this part might be a tad hard. As you walk left, you'll see a lobster coming towards you. Don't kill it. Instead, keep jumping in order to search for breakable ceiling between the pool and the heart. When you break the ceiling, use the lobster as a platform to jump to the mid-level and get the heart. If you accidentally kill the lobster or for some reason don't find it, follow step (g.2) OR go back through the door, kill the Squid again and re-enter the door. g.2) Destroy the ceiling anyway and jump over the pool. What you got to do now: first of all, get a distance from the pool (keep close to the stairs) and face right. Do your higher jump (third one), but not to the right. Keep jumping high, don't stop, and slowly approach the water pool. You'll notice a lobster will come from up there. While still jumping, you got to shot the lobster one time, right before it falls, so that it jumps and doesn't kill itself on the pool. The lobster will then come to you. Jump over the lobster, and it will serve as a platform for you. As the lobster walks to the pool, triple-jump over it, then before it falls use it as a boost to finally jump to the mid-level and grab the heart. Now go back the door you came by falling on the hole you should have made. If you didn't make a hole, be careful when jumping over the pool again: do a small jump so you don't hit the ceiling, and wait for the lobster to die. h) Now that you have the Symbol of Heart, go all the way back to the Door 3, on 1-K. Use the Magical Medicine to slide the ice block and use the spring to go back up. If you don't have the Magical Medicine, you must kill yourself to go back and get it. Anyway, go all the way right to 1-P (through the top level), and you'll see a spring on the ground level. The ceiling on levels 2 and 3 over the spring are breakable; the point here is making a path this way so you can use the spring to jump left, and finally find the exit. =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// OUT FROM CASTLE IV: =//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=// 2-A: ENEMIES: Serpent ITEMS: Star, Healing Moon (2-Z). GUIDE: a) Now that you're out the castle, go a little way left and jump on the pillar for a star. Then go left and, with the Magical Potion, slide the ice block until you trap the Serpent and can pass. Now DON'T fall in the first hole. If you do, you'll be on a trap with various enemies and will have to make your way back to 1-A alive if you can (run all way right and jump when you see an opening on the ceiling). Instead, jump over the first hole, and fall on the second one. You'll go even deeper now. Level 3 is hard as hell as there are LOTS of enemies to hit you. Hope you have plenty of Hao Dolls. Before you go on, keep at the top of the first, tall structure, and jump back to 1-A, but to the left. You'll come to a small pool. Destroy the left wall for a Healing Moon, take it and fall again. It seems you've just made a trip around the world.) 3-A: ENEMIES: Porcupine, Bat ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) The first pillar contains a star. 3-B: ENEMIES: Lobster, Bat, Serpent ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) When you come to a structure with three pillars inside, destroy the right wall of it to go in there and get a star from the central one, if you think it's worth it. Kill the enemies on the part where the Serpent falls since one of them will have a Healing Star (usually the first one you kill). Perform your higher jump (3rd) to pass over the spring-pillars. 3-C: ENEMIES: Bat, Lobster, Serpent ITEMS: GUIDE: a) Be VERY careful with your jumping. Don't use the springs on the floor for thrust; jump with your own strength or else you'll risk falling. b) When you reach the end of a section with a low ceiling and lobsters, be careful. Walk slowly so you have time to see the Serpents coming and kill them (shoot very fast) . c) To not lose energy on the skull trap, break the floor just before it to go through the path below. 3-D: ENEMIES: ITEMS: Star GUIDE: a) When you see the two ice blocks, push the first one and it will stop by the other. Then break the block just above them to pass. 3-E: ENEMIES: Serpent, Porcupine ITEMS: Star, Magic Lamp GUIDE: a) The first lonely pillar contains a star. When you reach a fork in the path, where you can choose going up or down, go down but not too far. First destroy the blocks to your left to find a Magic Lamp. Now run! But stop after the pool on 3-F and go back through the bottom path for a Hao Doll. 3-F: ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent ITEMS: Hao Doll, Healing Moon GUIDE: a) After the pool of water, go back through the bottom path and destroy the floor on the dead-end for a buried Hao Doll. b) Go on to the right, onto the spring-pillar. Don't use the springs for a boost; instead use the lobsters as stairs to climb up. c) When you're up there, notice the trapped lobster with a pillar between springs. Break the floor and fall on the pillar for a Healing Moon. Then, to
go back up, shoot to the right of the pillar to materialize a block. Jump on it
and break the block above.

ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent
BOSS: DRAGON
ITEMS: Stick of Power, Healing Moon (3), SOS Raft, Wizard Hat, Hao Doll,
Symbol of Family
BOSS STRATEGY: There's really no possible strategy to beat the Dragon. His
shots are circular, wide and powerful, and go in all directions. Your better
choice of not getting hit is shooting a few times at him and running away,
while trying to dodge his breath, what seems very hard if you're not far
enough. So you have two options, either do a suicide attack if you feel good
on energy (you should have a big energy bar by now if you've gotten all the Hao
Dolls), shooting wildly at him, or try to shot from a good distance, the
farther you can, so you have a chance of dodging his attacks. The last one
requires extreme reflex so use whatever tactics you see fit.

GUIDE
a) At the beginning, just go all the way right to 1-D, climb up (you can
destroy the mid-level stairs) and go back to 1-B to find the first door.
Enter it.

b) On 2-O go left to fight the first Dragon. After you get the key enter the

door on 2-P, to your right.

c) Now you're back on 1-A, floor 2. DON'T destroy the wall to the left yet.
Before that, destroy the ceiling to the right of the door, and you'll notice
a single block will remain between the just-opened hole and the big wall to
the left. Destroy this single block and the ones behind it with your shots,
and avoid destroying the bottom of the wall. This way you can make a platform
to jump to the top and grab the Stick of Power.

d) Now that you have the stick, destroy the wall to the right and enter the
unlocked door. You'll be back in 2-O, but now you can break the wall on the
mid-level to the left. Now it's a dangerous part, since you have to kill the
dragon yet again, with the same energy. Best of luck on that matter, as there's

no real advice I can think of. When you succeed killing it again, break the

wall to the right and follow on to 2-M. On 2-M you can use the springs to
destroy the structure hanging from the ceiling and grab a much needed Healing

Moon. Then enter the door on 2-L.

e) Go right through 1-G, bottom level, ignoring the spring, until you come to
a dead-end (run-jump over the water). Destroy the wall for a SOS Raft. You
may not need it now, but you will later. Now go back to the first spring.
The point here is making a little run from the right, jumping on it and getting

a boost all the way up to the place where you see a "2" sign. When you manage
to get up there, enter the door.

f) You should be on 2-L. Go left and destroy another Dragon, grabbing the key.
On the spring on 2-J the point is the same as the last spring, making a
little run from the right to get a longer boost left. If you want the Healing
Moon on 2-I, do the same trick. Enter the door on 2-H.

g) You're now on 1-I. The left wall is breakable, and I believe there's
another SOS Raft in there (if you still have your raft, other rafts won't
appear where they should anymore). Anyway go right, and to avoid wasting your
SOS Raft here, don't use the first spring, but jump fast and far to the 2nd
one, and from it boost yourself to the rest-spot between two springs. From

there, jump to the left and use the spring to land safely on dry ground. Go up

and all the way left over the "T" blocks. If you accidentally fall, try to use
the lobsters that will fall as platforms. You may want to fall anyway since the
right-bottom wall keeps a hidden Wizard Hat. When you reach the top-level go
all way left to the door on I-1.

h) Now on 2-H go a little way right and take the top path. Kill the Dragon,
get the key and run fast to jump to the other side; keep on the top floor. Run

and jump yet another time to reach a breakable wall. There you'll find a

Healing Moon. Fall on the block between the springs and water, and
jump to the middle floor. Break this floor below the luster and enter the
door on 2-D.

i) On 1-M go right and stop on the spring. You must break the stones blocking

your way; but destroy just the top two rows so you can build a platform. Also,

this way the Hao Doll hidden in the first one won't fall in the water. On the

second platform you build you may want to break the ceiling for a shortcut.

Go left and take the door on 1-M, mid-level.

j) If you're following my walkthrough now you should still have one key with
you, so you won't need to fight the Dragon here. There's a tricky point at
the left-most part though. Go all the way left. When you can see a trapped
Symbol, go to the top-level, close to the wall behind it, and break the floor.
Now instead of entering the door (you'd have to fight a dragon), use your magic
shots to destroy the floor below the Symbol of Family, and it will fall to
the same level you are. Now break the floor after the locked door on the

mid-level as well to reach the low-level to get to the bottom, and finally exit

the castle.

b) To avoid the part with skulls on the floor, use the spring before the trap
to jump and destroy the blocks above the skulls, unveiling a tunnel. Next,
when you climb up the high structure, you will see a Wizard Hat above the
ceiling. Break the ceiling with your head to make it fall
.
c) Once you've got the hat, jump onto where it was and you'll be back on 2-T,

where you can finally grab the Healing Moon you had left behind. Also, for a

hidden Broom, destroy the blocks to your right. (Thanks to James Tompkins for

this info!)

3-T
ENEMIES: Lobster

GUIDE:
a) This is a VERY dangerous part. First of all, stay on the top of the first
spring-pillar to jump over the cloud above water. Then you must be very
careful and make sure in only one jump you can use the next springs to go
beyond the water, since you won't have where to fall but the cloud, in case
you fail. The best way to do this is use the boost of the cloud when it's going

right for a more powerful jump.
b) When you escape that section, destroy the blocks to proceed right.

ENEMIES: Lobster, Serpent, Bat

a) On the tunnel, you should run fast to the right while shooting wildly, so
that you can kill the enemies before they fall on the holes and get the chance

to hit you. The pillar after the tunnel has a star. Don't stop on the pillar

before the water, but consecutively jump from one platform to another up to the

top.
b) Next, wait for all Lobsters to fall and jump onto the top platform. When you
reach the part with a huge wall, you must carefully fall on the spring close
to the water to keep jumping high and destroy the blocks near the ceiling,
making a tunnel. Be sure to stabilize yourself first before start shooting.

ENEMIES: Dragonfly
ITEMS: Star (4), Crystal of Magic
GUIDE:
a) ALL pillars contain a star. Watch out for dragonflies.
b) IMPORTANT: before you enter the castle, you should grab the last upgrade
for your weapon. Go beyond the castle on to a huge wall. Start shooting the

middle of it, and open a tunnel that will go up, then down and even back. Keep

destroying blocks with your shots, helmet and bots and you'll eventually find
the mighty Crystal of Magic.

CASTLE VI:
=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//=//

ENEMIES: Lobster
BOSS: DEVIL
ITEMS: Hao Doll, Healing Moon (4), Super Mantle, Symbol of Peace
BOSS STRATEGY: Surprisingly, the Devil is easier than the previous bosses. It
surely moves a lot, but his shots are destructible (if you got the Crystal of
Magic) and not that hard to avoid. The key to victory is simply to shoot really
fast; with the Crystal of Magic he will be history in no time.
Remember to also destroy any of his projectiles that may be chasing you.

GUIDE
a) Start by going right and you'll spot a pretty obvious Hao Doll on 1-B. Jump
on your third level from the block on the left of the doll to get to it. Then

jump to the top path for a shortcut to door number 1.

b) If you've been following my walkthrough, you should still have a key from
the last castle, so you may skip the boss for now. Go all the way right to 2-P,

then switch to the mid-level and go back left. There's a Healing Moon in the
bottom path, but I'd advise avoiding it due to the spike traps. In case you

fall, quickly make your way to the right destroying the blocks.

c) On 2-L you should stay on the pillar next to the spring and do your highest

jump to break the ceiling above it. This way you can make a passage to jump

with the spring and grab the Super Mantle. But it's very tricky to use the

spring to go up there. You must jump on it at its right tip, so you can make a

left jump without being blocked by the wall/ceiling. With a little practice you

should be able to do it. If this gets really annoying, and you have a SOS Raft,

you can fall in the water to the left and it will boost you to a safe spot

(if you keep holding left). After you get the Mantle enter the locked door.

d) You should be on 1-E. Go right and take the top-most path by climbing the
stairs. After you run-jump the first set of spikes, fall to the middle path,

stop above the spring you'll see on the lower level and destroy the ground.

Then either use the spring or just go right through the bottom to avoid the

spikes. On the next spring switch to the middle platform, and enter the Door 2

on 1-I.

e) You're on 2-H, and this time you can't avoid the boss. Destroy the left wall

for a Healing Moon. Go right to fight the Devil. After you've beaten him, grab

the key and go down. Quickly jump over the spikes consecutively, to reach the

locked door on 2-H. You unfortunately will have to waste a lot of vitality on

this part.

f) Go right and, once you're between the vase in front of the hole and the
sign, break the ceiling and go to the end of the mid-level platform full of
spikes. Keep jumping quickly but high and destroy the top-right platform, which
holds a Healing Moon. The moon will fall to the bottom level, so go there and

grab it. Take any path on your right (preferably the top one, using the spring)

to reach Door 3 on 1-M.

g) Go a long way to the right and kill the boss. Then proceed through the

bottom level. To get the Healing Moon on 2-G, break the floor before the room

with the moon, and you'll fall to the room beside it. Now shoot the ceiling

that covers the moon to your left and you'll destroy it. Then go left, jumping

on the platforms, and enter the locked door on 2-D.

h) You're on 1-M. Follow the arrows and enter the FIRST door you see. Now
you'll enter a sort of complicated maze that blocks your way to the last
Symbol and the Exit. Go down one level and enter the only door you can.

Go right, jump over the water and enter the only door. You'll be on 2-B.
Before proceeding, go left, and break the ceiling to get the key. There's a
set of three locked doors on the 2-A/B mid-level, enter the last one
(left-most). On 1-P, break the ceiling above the flower vase and enter the
door on the top. On 2-A break the floor above the key, grab it, break the
ceiling to the left of the key, then finish opening a passage back to top by
destroying the ceiling with your shots. Enter the locked door way above the

exit, then go left and break the floor next to the wall. Just grab the Symbol

of Peace, enter the door and finish the game!!!

   5. ENEMIES:

For information and strategies on defeating castle bosses, refer to that

castle's walkthrough. The enemies are listed in order of appearance.

>>> ENEMIES:
SERPENT: Always comes rushing fast towards you, but is fairly weak. It's
the only enemy you can kill by jumping on its head.

BAT: Comes fast from the sky in a zigzag pattern. One shot will do it,
but they're hard to aim.

LOBSTER: Slow but resistant. When you shoot a Lobster, it will jump
towards you so be very careful not to shoot while jumping too. They can chase
you wherever you go, and even jump on low platforms.

DRAGONFLY: Flies in a fixed, 8-shaped pattern. Hard to aim, but most of times
you'll have to kill them from a distance, since they use to block platforms far

away.

PORCUPINE: Runs fast like the Serpents and also has great resistance.
Although they're full of needles, you can oddly use them as platforms just as

the Lobsters.

WASP: Very annoying. They're slow but chase you wherever you go, so be
sure to get rid of them.

MOLE: Moles come from the ground from time to time, trying to hit you, then
bury themselves again. Don't bother with them, just jump over.

   6. SECRETS:

1) Start a Game with Items:
Start a new game and enter your name as "ONSEN" with one space at the end;
make sure to enter the characters in the quickest manner possible. You'll then
be asked for another name. This time enter "HAHI" with two spaces at the end.
Before starting the game, you'll come to a room where you can choose which
items you'll start with.

2) Warp Trick on Castle V:
On Castle V, due to a bug I believe, it's possible to warp all around the
castle. To perform this trick, stand by the first pillar on the castle, so
that Hao gets hidden behind it. Press down and he should fall into the floor.

Then go a little to the right so you can see a bit of him, press down again and
you'll be warped to the next pillar. You can repeat this process as much as
you want on any of the pillars. I don't know what good would this do, though,
because if you never passed the castle before you'll probably only get lost.

3) The "True" Ending:
It seems there's a secret on the US/NTSC version of the game (the tuned-down
game called Mystery Quest), where you're required to finish the game four
times in order to get the real ending. ReyVGM has confirmed this information,
and revealed to me that the "true ending" consists of a hidden message saying
[SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS]
"Congratulation. You have over come your greatest challenge. Now you are
powerful wizard." (sic)

I'm not sure if the Japanese version, Hao-kun no Fushigi na Tabi, has the same
hidden ending, or any different ending at all, but I'd assume it to be
likewise, as generally they only removed stuff for the English version,
not bothering to add anything. Moreover, the true ending message is in Engrish
to begin with, so obviously it was something present in the Japanese version.
