INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Adian no Tsue' for the Famicom Disk System, released by Sunsoft in 1986. The game was only released in Japan and features some Japanese text but not enough that you can play without understanding. The guide is here to help you with the other menu options anyway. Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy! =============================================================================== 02.) BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== There are two game modes. The "A" mode is the main game as you would expect and described in more detail after this paragraph. The "B" mode is like the B-side of a record that you are interested what it is and play it once or twice but then kind of never flip over to play it again (funny since you have to flip the FDS cartridge to play the other side). The "B" mode is called Stepping Mode and you run a marathon while answering math quizzes. It gets boring quickly and I will not get into it much. According to AdamL there is a total of 39 steps and actually has an ending afterwards. Controls: ````````` D-Pad Control Aidan's Direction, Menu Selection A Selects アディアンの杖 at the title | Attack | Confirm in menus B Selects ステップドリル at the title START Pause/Resume SELECT Status/Shop Menu | Cycle through Continue/New Game at title | Call Fairy from Shop Menu Gameplay: ````````` The main game plays a little like the classic Zelda dungeons. You have a small dungeon with rooms and each room has four doors. All doors can be opened but some cannot be walked through (see map). Opening doors usually has an item popping up and most of the times it is a bell. Before you can take the item and go through the door you have to answer a math problem. They are generally super easy (unless you haven't passed first grade math) and only a few make you think a little more than a second. Once you know the answer you need to hit the numbers or signs at close range and non-comparison questions need to be confirmed with the (K) symbol. The main screen has two displays at the top. On the left is your score (meaningless but for top score keeping) and the right has your energy bar. If this bar reaches zero you die. The game will ask if you want to continue or end. You have 3 lives in the game. You need to juggle the math problems while fighting off enemies. I say fighting off because there is actually no point to engage the enemies aside for making the area safer or to gain access to a number on the wall. There is no experience for fighting. Most enemies are moving around their starting position and are little threat. You can ignore them for the most part and just solve the puzzles to move on. Because of your short range from your beginning staff it is also advised not to go attacking them and rather wait for them to come closer to you. Exceptions such as the red demons do exist. They will dash towards you in a straight line when on the same horizontal line. You can move outside their sight and they will stop, thus luring them closer and then attacking them from a vertical angle is the way to go. Failing a math test will reduce your bell count by 1. Bells are important for shopping. Press the SELECT button to open the status screen which has the following to show: xかい Level (1-9) Bells Number of Bells Arrow Returns to main screen 商人 Merchant/Shop ふえ Flute. If you have Sara's Flute you can get hints from the fairy けいけんち Experience Points. のつえ Currently equipped staff のふく Currently equipped clothes 600 experience points unlock the staircase to the next floor or the boss. Experience is gained by solving math problems and thus NOT from defeating enemies or collecting items. You would only collect items for farming bells and defeating enemies that get in your way. The experience resets to 0 when you go to another floor. BOSSES only appear in the room after you waited for 3 other enemies to appear and killed them. This can take a long time especially on the last floor where you have to wait for several minutes until the group of enemies appears. You can leave the room once the boss has appeared and next time you enter the boss will pop up again quickly without waiting or killing other foes first. The boss room tends to have Power restoration in all doorways. You can still get these before you trigger the boss so until then the boss room is a nice place to restore health while you farm bells in the other levels. The only way you can kill the boss is to purchase a mushroom for invincibility and slam on the attack rapidly. Without the invincibility you will not survive the onslaught of power zappers. Items: `````` These items are found in the doors. *Golden Bells Used for purchasing items at the merchant *Apple/Vial Recover 80 Energy *Poison Mushroom Lose 80 Energy. You might be wondering why you would want to take this. Unfortunately it is usually stuck in the doorway after you solve a puzzle. The best way to avoid is to the solve the puzzle and open another door for another puzzle. This will make the item from the previous puzzle, i.e. the mushroom, disappear. Another way is to totally leave the room (the way you came in is usually good because the previous room is known and maybe emptied out already) and return. Sara's Flute 1 5 さーらのふえ Enables calling a fairy (useless in my opinion) Litton's Shoes 2 5 りとんのくつ Increases Movement Speed (very useful and I would recommend buying it immediately when available) Ruda's Stone 3 10 るーだの石 Ranged attack, highly recommended to replace the crappy staff. Required to defeat first demon thus you need to buy it in Level 3 anyway as far as I understand although I did not try to tackle him with the starting equipment. Lemur's Body 4 7 れむーるのみ Used to create Lemur's Clothes (automatically) Arasu's Fruit 5 5 あーらすのは Used to create Arasu's Staff (automatically) Bard's Stone 6 15 ばるーだの石 Required to defeat second demon Nemurin's Fruit 7 9 れむりんのみ Used to create Nemurin's Clothes (automatically) Atlan's Blade 8 9 あとらんのは Used to create Atlan's Staff (automatically) Meruda's Stone 9 20 めるーだの石 Required to defeat third demon Cheats: ``````` I found one hex code that might be useful. Set 06B3 as FF for a constant 255 Bells, or switch it off again to slowly use up the 255 instead. Having unlimited bells means you can always buy the herbs to heal (although a cheat for health is still more useful) and naturally bell farming is not required. So if you want to have 600 experience to make stairs always accessible set 06BB to 6. For energy, set 00ED to something high (FF?). If you set it high enough and keep the cheat on you will obviously never die. =============================================================================== 03.) Walkthrough G0300 =============================================================================== There is not much else to say but the beginning chapter and how to navigate the dungeon. For this there are 9 maps and each 3rd map has a boss rather than a simple staircase. Defeating the final boss will end the game happily. AdamL and doommaster1994 for cheats and advise LastBossKiller for helping me with some translation questions. In the end those equipments all have weirdo names and that's how it is. I would have preferred to purchase a "tooth" and get a piece of clothes from it but I guess it was not meant to be.
