Walkthrough 6. Credits =================== 1. Version History =================== Version 1.00, December 13, 2004: Started this FAQ and finished it. Version 1.15, December 17, 2004: Added descriptions to the Item Cards in the E- Cards list. Version 1.25, May 18, 2005: Did a little bit of changing to this FAQ. In the Doors 'O Plenty level, I actually had the same walkthrough for getting the e- coin listed twice, so I removed it. In Sliding the Slopes, I added info about the boomerang you can get at the end of the level. Sadly, you can only get it in that level. ============ 2. Controls ============ D-pad: Left: Move Mario/Luigi left Right: Move Mario/Luigi right Down: Duck (must be at least Big Mario/Luigi to do this), go down a pipe, slide down slopes Up: Go up a pipe wile jumping, open doors, climb vines, A: Jump, Swim, B (held, going right or left): Run Start: Pause game L: Select an item and use it R: Scan E-Card ----------------------- Controls while running ----------------------- Note while running: If you see a gap one block wide (the block is about the size of a ? block), you can simply run over the gap without falling in the gap, saving some jumping and time. Useful in many situations. A: Jump higher than your normal jump, fly (if you have Raccoon Mario/Luigi), fly higher (if you have Raccoon Mario/Luigi) Down: Duck while running ------------------------ Controls while swimming ------------------------ If you are in the water, do not press anything to sink to the surface. There is no limit on how long you can stay underwater. A: Swim up to surface, jump over the water when at the top Right/Left: Go right/left -------------------- "Advanced" Controls -------------------- These are controls you would not be normally able to do while you are normal or Big Mario/Luigi. These are controls where you must have a suit or Fire Flower equipped. +++++++++++++++++++++++ With Fire Mario/Luigi: +++++++++++++++++++++++ B: Fire Fireballs, run while held ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ With Raccoon Mario/Luigi: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A: Jump while running, keep pressing A to stay in the air for a short period of time. B: Tail whack. Your tail may strike an enemy next to you. ++++++++++++++++++++++ With Frog Mario/Luigi: ++++++++++++++++++++++ There are no special controls if you are wearing a Frog Suit. A Frog Suit gives you the ability to swim faster and more accurate in the water. You still swim in a Frog Suit by pressing A. With a Frog Suit, Pressing A does not swim you up to the surface. You go straight. You must also use the D-pad to swim in the direction you want. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ With Tanooki Mario/Luigi: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ When you are in a Tanooki Suit, you get the same ability as Raccoon Mario/Luigi, you can still fly in the air and whack your tail to strike nearby enemies. But when you duck (with Down) and press B, Mario/Luigi will transform into a statue for a few seconds! This makes it so enemies can't hit you, but you cannot move while you are a statue. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ With Hammer Mario/Luigi: +++++++++++++++++++++++++ When you are in a Hammer Suit, you will get the same ability as being Fire Mario/Luigi, but you throw hammers instead. These hammers are stronger than fireballs. They can hit any enemy and knock them out. Yes, this includes Boos, Thwomps, and any other enemy you could not normally kill by using fireballs! This is a very useful suit, so don't try to waste this and try to put it to good use. ----------------------------- When Mario/Luigi is jumping: ----------------------------- There are certain things you must know when jumping. Free jump: When jumping off a platform into a gap, you can use left and right to move yourself and have a different landing location. This can be useful in many ways. Diagonal Jump: When jumping up blocks of stairs or some sort, use A to jump and left and right to jump in that direction. This is how you can jump up objects. Corner Jump: If you are jumping to get to a higher platform directly above you, jump off the platform you're on and use right/left to try and land on the block above you. Crouch Jump: When you are ducking, you can jump as well. This can be used to jump and avoid certain enemies, or when you are trying to reach a small place you wouldn't be able to get normally. ================ 3. E-cards List ================ If you buy the game new you should get two "promo" cards. One is the first E- Level "Wild Ride in the Sky" and the other is an item card of a Super Leaf. Here is a list of the E-Reader Cards that come in Series 1: ******************************************************************************* Level Cards: ******************************************************************************* *Classic World 1-1 02: Slidin' the Slopes 04: Doors 'O Plenty 06: Magical Note Blocks 08: Piped Full of Plants ******************************************************************************* Item Cards: ******************************************************************************* Frog Suit Description: A Frog Suit allows you to swim faster and more straight and accurate in the water. Hammer Suit Description: A Hammer Suit allows you to throw hammers at the enemies. It's like a Fire Flower except Hammers are better. These can hurt any enemy you cannot normally damage with a fire ball, but the only bad part about this is you can't slide down slopes when ducking. P-Wing Description: When you equip this you become Raccoon Mario but your P-Wing meter will always be high even if you don't walk! So you will have unlimited flying time in the air. 3 Super Leafs Description: Adds 3 Super Leafs to your item collection. 5 Invincibility Stars Description: Adds 5 Invincibility Stars to your item collection. 8-Item Set Description: Adds 8 items to your item collection. A Mushroom, Fire Flower, Super Leaf, Invincibility Star, Frog, Tanooki, and Hammer Suit. Sweet. 5-Up Mushroom Description: Gives you 5 extra 1-Ups. Cool. ******************************************************************************* Switches: ******************************************************************************* Orange Switch Description: When activated, enemies turn into coins when hit by a fireball. ******************************************************************************* Demo Cards: ******************************************************************************* World 1-1 Speed Stage Description: Shows how to beat the first level in 11 seconds. World 1-2 Unlimited 1-Ups Description: Shows how to get multiple lives in World 1-2. World 2-2 Toad's Hidden House Description: Shows how to unlock the Blue Mushroom in World 2. World 5-5 Toad's Hidden House Description: Shows how to unlock the Blue Mushroom in World 5. World 7-2 Toad's Hidden House Description: Shows how to unlock the Blue Mushroom in World 7. =================================== 4. How to use these E-Reader Cards =================================== To use these E-Reader Cards, you will need the following: 1 Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 game pak 1 GameBoy Advance Link Cable 2 GameBoy Advances 1 E-Reader E-Reader Cards Now, this is how you use the E-Reader Cards: 1. Insert the Mario Advance 4 game pak into either one of your GameBoy Advances. 2. Now, insert the E-Reader into the other GameBoy Advance. 3. Connect the GameBoy Advance Link Cable between the two GameBoy Advances (the player 1 side must be connected to the GameBoy Advance with Super Mario Advance 4 in it). 4. Now, on any of the world maps in Mario Advance 4, press R, and select the type of card you want to scan (you have to go to World E to scan level cards), and then turn on the other GameBoy Advance. Now, on the E-Reader title screen, press Start and a menu will come up. If this is your first time scanning with this game, go to Scan Card. Otherwise, go to Access Saved Data. Now, on the GameBoy Advance with the game pak in it, select "Ok". Now, swipe the card through the E-Reader (through its dotted side), and it should be scanned completely. If not, try again, and make sure you do it slow and through completely. =============== 5. Walkthrough =============== To go to World E, go to the file select screen. World E will be on the bottom of the list. Things to do in World E: 1. Three Mushroom Houses. All of them are locked. 2. The E-Coin Castle. E-Coins you've collected go here. 3. The tile next to the castle. Select a level you've scanned and play it. 4. The other tile. Use this and press A to switch between Mario and Luigi. -------------------- Classic World 1-1: Advance Coins: 1/5 Difficulty: 1/5 -------------------- Ah, the classic replica of 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. When you start, proceed right. Squish the Goomba and you'll come to a triangle of "?" Blocks. Hit the one on the left and grab the Mushroom. Now, head right and jump over the pipe. Jump over the next two pipes and you'll come to another 1. Head down it. You'll be in a secret room. Collect all the coins here and grab the Advance coin for a 1-Up. Now, go through the pipe and leave this room. Back out here you'll now be near the end of the level. Squish the two Goombas, head right and jump over the pipe. Jump over the stairs of block and you'll come to a flag. Jump on it to complete the level (the higher you jump on it the more points you get). Now, head right, jump on the panel to exit the level. -------------------------- 01: Wild Ride in the Sky Advance Coins: 4/5 Difficulty: 3/5 -------------------------- Advance Coin 1: Once you start the level, jump on the platform to the right. To your right you will see a platform moving up and down. Jump on it and ride it to the top. Up here, the level starts to auto-scroll. Now, jump on the platform to the right. On here, collect the coins and jump on the platform to the right. On here, collect the coins and jump onto the platform to your right. You will come to two "?" blocks. The right one has a Mushroom. Grab it and you'll see a moving platform to your right. Jump on it and ride it to the top. Up here jump on the platform to your right and it will go up in a diagonal line. At the top you'll see a Koopa on a cloud. Jump on the cloud and get rid of the Koopa. Now, jump on the cloud to your right and you'll come to another set of "?" blocks. The left one has a Super Leaf so grab it (it's useful for this level). Now the auto-scrolling starts slowing down a bit. Now, jump on the cloud to your right and then jump on the platform to your right. On here, jump over the blocks and you'll see two platforms with happy clouds to the right. Get on the lower one and collect the Advance Coin. Advance Coin 2: Quickly get back on the platform to the left before you can't get to it (because of the auto-scrolling), then use it to get to the higher platform. On here jump on the donut platforms above you. Now, before the platforms you're on fall, jump on the donut platforms to the right. On here, jump on the platform of happy clouds to the right. On here, get rid of the Koopa and go right. You'll notice two donut platforms on this platform. Stand on them and fall down. On this platform get the Advance Coin to the left. Advance Coin 3: Now, head right and jump on the cloud to the right. On here, there's two platforms. Jump on the lower one and collect the Advance Coin (or jump on the higher one and use the platform to the right to get it). Advance Coin 4: Now, hop on the cloud to your right and use it to get on to the bigger cloud to the left. On here, jump on the higher cloud to the right. On here, jump on the cloud to the right. On here, head right and you'll get to a platform (watch out for the Bullet Bills firing at you). Get on this platform and ride it until you see an Advance Coin. Once you see it, grab it and stay on this platform. Now, ride it until you get to the exit. Jump on the panel to exit the level. ----------------------- 02: Slidin' the Slopes Advance Coins: 4/5 Difficulty: 2/5 ----------------------- A fun level where you get to slide down hills. Wheee! Advance Coin 1: Once you start the level, head right and jump over the small gap. Now you'll see two blocks to the right. Hit the right one for a power-up. Now proceed up the small slope and collect the Advance Coin above you. Advance Coin 2: Now, see that slope going down to the right? Slide down it using Down and you will knock out all the enemies. Now, once you get to a music note block, press A on it and it should bounce you over a large gap, collecting a few coins and the Advance Coin. Advance Coin 3: Once you land on the ground again, use the magical note block to get on two more note blocks above you. Then use these to get to a pipe. Once you get to the pipe, enter it. In here, jump on the higher platform above you. You'll see the Advance Coin below you but you can't get to it right now. Now, run the whole way without stopping (you'll be running everywhere). You'll be collecting a lot of coins, possibly a 1-Up. Once you start running collect the Advance Coin next to you. Advance Coin 4: Now, jump up and through the gate and exit the pipe to the left. Back out here, fall back onto the ground. Back down here, jump over the gap and keep heading right. You should see a long hill going up. Climb it and at the top jump. You should see an Advance Coin but it is too high for you. So here's an idea. See that Winged Goomba? Jump on him pressing A and it should send you jumping high enough to collect the Advance Coin. Grab it while you can. Exit: With all for Advance coins head right up another long slope. At the top slide down this long slope until you see the word "e+" made out of coins. Now, proceed right and hit the tile, watching out for that boomerang brother. An interesting this I noticed is that since this boomerang brother's boomerang is blue, you can knock out the Boomerang brother and take his boomerang. Now you are in control of it! If you want, you can backtrack to the level and have fun with it. Press B to use the boomerang to throw it around. It will knock out almost any enemy it hits, and you'll need to touch it when it comes back to you. Otherwise, the boomerang will go away. --------------------- 04: Doors 'O Plenty Advance Coins: 5/5 Difficulty: 4/5 --------------------- An annoying level. There is also an E-coin in this level. Advance Coin 1: When you start go right and jump over the gap onto a platform. On here jump on the platform to your right. On here jump onto the walkway to your right. On here run right until you get to a door. Open it. You'll see a key but ignore it for now. We'll need it later. In here head left and jump onto the platform above you. Now go left and down and open the door to the right. In here head right and skip the first door and open the second. In here, jump down the gap to the right. Down here go left and jump down in the gap. Down here jump over the gap to your left and jump on the platform above you. Now collect the Advance Coin. Advance Coin 2: Jump back down and now jump back over the gap to your right. On here jump onto the platform above you. On here jump onto the platform above you. Now head right and jump on the platform to your right. Now, drop down in the gap to the right. Down here, drop down the platform to the left. Down here, jump on the platform above you and get the Advance Coin. Advance Coin 3: Now jump back on the platform above you. To the right, keep jumping down gaps until you see a gap to your left and right. Jump down the one to the right. Now jump down the gap to your left. Now head left and collect the Advance Coin. Advance Coin 4: Now jump onto the platform above you. On here head all the way left until you see a platform above you. Keep jumping up these platforms until you get to a door. Once you get to a door open it. In here get the Advance Coin to your left. Advance Coin 5: Head right and you'll see a yellow "!" switch. Pick it up and jump on the walkway above you. Now jump on the walkway above this one, and head right until you get to the end of the walkway. Now, jump on the platform to your right. Now, jump on the pathway to your right. See those unfilled blocks? Drop your switch and hit it. Now the blocks will be filled. See that brick in between the two "?" blocks? Hit it and a vine will come out. Climb it to the top. See that platform to the left? Get on it. Now, get the Advance Coin to your left. E-Coin: Now, jump off this platform and get on the same pathway to the left. Now, remember where that key was? Open the door and drop down to the left and jump up on the platform above you. Now jump across the gap this time and then jump to the platform above you. On here grab the key and go through the gate to the right. Now go to the door in this room in the lower right part (the same one we used earlier). Back in this room skip the first door and open the second. In here jump on the platform above you to the right. Up here jump on top of the platform to the right. Up here jump and get onto the platform to your left and go left. Now, you will see a locked door to the left next to a gate leading down. Jump over the gate and use the key on the locked door and now go through. ******************************************************************************* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PUZZLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In here you will see a door in the air to the right, a "?" block to the left and a P-switch to the right. Now, hit the "?" block and a line of coins will come out. Now be quick! The coins head in the direction you do. So head right and use down if you need to. Make it so a link of coins is directly under the door in the air. Now collect some of the coins so you can jump through, but KEEP THE COINS UNDER THE DOOR! Now hit the P-switch and they will turn into bricks. Get on them and open the door. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PUZZLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ******************************************************************************* Now, wait for the P-switch music to stop. See that P-switch to the left? Hit it when it stops and jump down the gap to the right. Now keep going down the gap and head up the platforms to the right. YOU HAVE TO BE VERY QUICK WITH THIS. At the top if the P-switch music is near done FALL THROUGH AND GET THE COINS. The coins below you should turn back into blocks, giving you access to the door. Open it. In here get the e-Coin to your left. Good job! Exit: Remember that "!" switch next to Advance Coin 4? Use my guide to get back to that switch and grab it. Take it to the same area with the unfilled blocks and hit the switch. Hit the brick and a vine will come out. Climb it to the top. At the top open the door to the right. BOSS BATTLE! Remember the Big Boo fight from Super Mario World? Same thing here, except here's a thing. In Super Mario Brothers 3 you can't kick blocks up in the air so here's what you do: grab a block from the ground and face away from Big Boo. He will come towards you and once he's low enough jump at him with a block. The block should damage him. Repeat this twice more to win. ------------------------ 06: Magical Note Blocks Advance Coins: 3/5 Difficulty: 3/5 ------------------------ Coming here as Raccoon Mario/Luigi is highly recommended. Advance Coin 1: Once you start the level head right and jump over the first two pipe. You'll see a pipe in the air. Jump in it (using Up + A). In here get on the higher note blocks above you. You'll notice that you can go to the right side of the screen if you go too left and vice versa (like the first part of 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. 2). Up here get on the 3 magical note blocks above you. Now, use these to get to the magical note blocks above you. Up here, get rid of the Koopa and hop onto the magical note blocks in the middle above you. On here, jump onto the note blocks to the right above you. Now, head right and you'll appear on the left part of the screen. Get rid of the two Koopas and head up the stairs made of note blocks. Get to the top of them. Now, before you get to the blocks above you, see those 3 above you? Hit the one on the left and a Mushroom/Super Leaf will come out, so get it. If it's a Leaf grab it, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT. Now, hop on the blocks above you to the right. On here, hope onto the note blocks to the left. On here, hop onto the note blocks to the left. Up here, you'll see the Advance Coin above you. It may seem you can't get it but you can. On here, head left and you'll appear on the right part of the screen. Over here, hop high enough and head right. You should be next to the Advance Coin. Grab it. Advance Coin 2: Now, head left and back down onto the blocks. On here, get rid of the Koopa and head up the stairs made of blocks. At the top hop onto the note blocks above you to the right. On here see that block above you to the right? Hit it and a Mushroom or Super Leaf will come out of it. Grab it. Now, use all these note blocks and keep going up them until you see three brown blocks. Get on them and hit the note block next to you. Head up it and use it to grab the Advance Coin. Advance Coin 3: Now, keep riding these blocks up until you get to two brown blocks and a pipe. Don't go in the pipe. See that note block to the left of you? Use it and bounce high and head left. You'll be on the right part of the screen and you should be on a note block. This is quite tricky to pull off but you should eventually get it. Jump and get the Advance Coin. Exit: Now jump off to the left and land on a note block. Use it to get back on the 2 brown blocks. Head up the pipe now. Head right and hit the panel to exit the level. -------------------------- 08: Piped full of Plants Advance Coins: 3/5 Difficulty: 4/5 -------------------------- Another hard and annoying level. Coming here in Leaf or Fire form highly recommended. Advance Coin 1: Once you start the level get the power up next to you. Now, see those two pipes? A piranha plant is coming out of both of them. When the pipe on the bottom is safe to jump on, get on it. Then when the piranha plant comes out of the top pipe, duck. Now, wait for the Piranha Plant on the next pipe to go in, then jump on that pipe. See that pipe to your right? When the piranha goes in the pipe jump on it. Now to your right a piranha plant will pop out of the pip spitting fire at you. Dodge the fire and get on the pipe when it goes back in. On here there will be another Piranha Plant firing at you. Dodge the fire and when it goes in the pipe get on the pipe. On here you'll see two pipes. Wait for the plants to go back in and get on the bottom one (of course). Now, when the piranha jumps back in the pipe, go on the pipe next to you. See that Advance Coin to the left? Jump to get it then land back on the pipe to the left. Advance Coin 2: Now jump on the pipe back to the right. Jump on the next two pipes and you'll be in an area with a block. Hit the block and a star will come out. Get it then go across the small pipes in front of you. Now grab the Advance Coin. Advance Coin 3 + Exit: Now, keep heading right until you get to a gap. Jump down it and enter the pipe to the right. In here you'll see three pipes and the Advance Coin is on the top, Head right, run back left and jump. You should get on the top pipe. Now grab the Advance Coin and head right to the exit and hit the panel. Yay! I'm done with this Walkthrough now! ^_^ =========== 6.
