Credits [6A] ============================================================================== I. Introduction [1INT] ============================================================================== Hey, Kelsper here, and this is my guide for Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu. (that is quite the mouthful) It covers all the characters that you can find in game and gives my opinion on them. Note that this is not a clear cut "don't use this character". Hell, you could even do a strictly, pre-promotes and Bantu only run. This guide is to give an idea on who the most efficient characters are. In the end, your playthrough is yours and you can do whatever you want with it. Don't take my ratings too seriously. Be aware that the game is only available in Japan currently and was not released too long ago so the information (especially the growth rates/average stats) could be wrong. This guide is also a work in progress. Also, this guide is assuming that you are: A) Playing on Normal or Hard mode (On Lunatic mode especially, characters ratings would be completely different as everyone has different uses, and most will only be useful in the short term before being dumped (This is similiar on Maniac mode, but to a lesser degree). Hard mode is a little harder, but still manageable. B) Are remembering my scores are for characters native classes, even though I do describe reclassing options for them. (It's just more practical that way for me, as well for anyone else who reads) You can promote any character (that isn't one of the unique characters with 30 levels instead of 20 levels in both unpromoted and promoted classes) with a Master Seal after they have reached level 10 unpromoted. I generally would say that it is not a very good idea to promote earlier then level 20 (the max) as you miss out on a lot of stats. It can, however, be useful to promote early, especially on the harder difficulties to help out with difficult enemies. For the average stats at level 20/20, I chose to round down any stats that have lower then .5 as a decimal, while any stat with higher than .5 will get rounded up. So 25.5 will be rounded up to 26, while 25.4 will be rounded down to 25, if that makes any sense. ================== A. Reclassing [1A] ================== When reclassing a character, they are in a certain "class set" which allows them to change between them in that set. There are three class sets - Male class set A, Male class set B, and the Female class set. Here are the class sets: Male Class Set A ---------------- Cavalier/Paladin Archer/Sniper Myrmidon/Swordmaster Mage/Sage Curate/Bishop Dracoknight Male Class Set B ---------------- Knight/General Mercenary/Hero Fighter/Warrior Hunter/Horseman Pirate/Berserker Dark Mage/Sorcerer Female Class Set ---------------- Pegasus/Falcon/Draco Knight Cavalier/Paladin Archer/Sniper Myrmidon/Swordmaster Mage/Sage Cleric/Bishop General If you have beat hard mode, you automatically unlock a mode where the male class sets are merged together, meaning you have can swap an Archer into a Hunter, for example. This can be especially useful for some characters. ================ B. Supports [1B] ================ Now, an overview on how supports bonuses work. I have laid it out like this under the specific character that would get these bonuses: Supports: C - B - A Minerva 0 2 -- Let's say this is Michalis supporting with Minerva. For every chapter that they are both participating in, they gain one point. Once they achieve the correct amount of points needed, they will get a C, B, or A level support, if applicable. But since Michalis has 0 for a C support with Minerva, he gets an automatic C support with her without doing anything. If they both participate in 2 chapters together, they will get a B support. The -- for the A support means that this support level is unobtainable by normal means. Also, sometimes supports bonuses are only one-way. And what do the supports do? When the supporting characters are within a radius of 3 squares of each other, they will gain some bonuses to their stats, depending on what level of support: C level support: +5 Hit, +5 Avoid B level support: +10 Hit, +10 Avoid A level support: +10 Hit, +10 Avoid, +5 Critical, +5 Critical Evade Support conversations might not be at the same amount of points as the bonuses you get, but they give you different types of bonds, which increase the designated stat +2 for one chapter. For example, Luke and Rody: Supports: C - B - A Rody 6 12 19 (Convos: 6,9,13. A level gives Luck Bond) While Rody and Luke get bonuses from each other on points 6, 12 and 19, their support conversations are different. (6, 9 and 13) The A level conversation will always give a bond of some type. Some characters only have a C conversation, while others will not give a support bonus to each other, but have a conversation together, which is strange. For these characters, I simply made it so that: Supports: C - B - A Character -- -- -- (Convos: blah blah. A level gives whatever bond) To show that they give no bonuses, but do give a conversation. I left out the conversations on My Units support section as there are just way too many to list, as basically every character has a conversation with My Unit. ============================================================================== II. Characters [3A] ============================================================================== =============== 1. Marth [3MAR] =============== Class: Lord (No promotion but can achieve level 30) Weapon Rank: Sword D Starting Items: Steel Sword, Rapier, Vulnerary. Appearance: The blue haired main character. Has a tiara, wears blue armour and a blue cape with a red orb fastened onto it. Bio: Prince of Altea. Values his friends. He led the allied army in the War of Shadows and defeated the Shadow Dragon, Medeus. Recruitment: Joins you in Prologue 8, and is the main character from then on. Decent enough bases means that Marth stays good throughout the game. Much better then he was in Shadow Dragon, at least and he gets the Shield of Seals later on in the game that gives him +2 to all stats. He will hopefully cap skill and speed, but might need a little luck or an energy drop to cap strength. Luck is also very high, his weaknesses being Defense and Resistance. Expect to get 4 or 5 stats when he levels up. He's the only one that can use the Rapier, aswell, which can be relatively useful. Supports: C - B - A My Unit 5 11 18 (Convos: 5,11,18. The choices you made for Past/Present affect what you can and cannot choose. For example, If for past I used Farmer's Child, I could not choose Mighty or Pursuer for Present/Future bonuses, as I can only have one +HP bonus from all three. If that makes any sense. You choose a couple options determinating base stats and growths, but usually no matter what you pick your my unit will be really good. I particular like using Fighter, as that seems to have good results. Mage seems to be somewhat underwhelming due to a lower magic base instead of strength. Reclassing Options: He/she will do good as anything really, but for the best effect, start them out as a class that will give the appropriate strength or magic and weapons ranks. For example, My Unit Fighter becomes an amazing Pirate, My Unit Mage makes an amazing Cleric/Curate/Bishop, and so on. The growths that aren't listed above are here: Stat Growths before you add Past/Present/Future bonuses: HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res Pirate/Berserker: 100% 55% 0% 45% 60% 60% 20% 0% Hunter/Horseman: 70% 45% 0% 45% 55% 60% 25% 0% Dracoknight: 60% 35% 0% 50% 55% 60% 30% 10% Dark Mage/Sorcerer: 50% 10% 35% 50% 50% 60% 5% 30% Cleric/Curate: 50% 10% 25% 45% 50% 60% 10% 40% Sage/Bishop: 50% 10% 35% 50% 50% 60% 5% 30% Rating: 8-10/10 (Can either be a very good character at worst, but is more often than not an amazinginly broken character, especially when choosing the right bonuses to give to him/her.) ============== 3. Luke [3LUK] ============== Class: Cavalier >> Paladin Weapon Rank: Sword D, Lance E Starting Items: Iron Sword. Appearance: Youth with green hair. Has blue armour. He is one of the most consistent units in the game. His strength and defense will always stay high, and his skill and speed are high enough to make him a very well rounded character. He may lag behind Cecil or Rody in speed, but he should still be fine. His luck is lower then the other two starting cavaliers however. Reclassing Options: While he does really well as Cavalier/Paladin, he could use some help in the speed department, so consider class changing him to Myrmidon/Swordmaster for at least a while, it will help. Archer/Sniper could also be a good option: HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res Myrmidon/S. master: 90% 55% 0% 45% 70% 40% 30% 5% Archer/Sniper: 90% 55% 0% 45% 70% 40% 35% 0% Hunter/Horseman: 90% 65% 0% 40% 65% 40% 30% 0% [Hard mode] Rating: 8.5/10 ============== 4. Rody [3ROD] ============== Class: Cavalier >> Paladin Weapon Rank: Sword E, Lance D Starting Items: Iron Lance. Appearance: Youth with brown hair. He looks like Leaf from FE5. Has green armour. He still does well in strength and defense. Should you give him time to grow, he will become one of your best units. He will end up having less HP then Luke, and will grow strength slower, but Rody beats or ties him in everything else. These growths help to counteract his poor level 1 base stats. He specializes in lances, and has a higher lance rank then both Luke and Cecil, but an E in swords. Reclassing Options: Rody also does very well in his original cavalier class, but he some options for reclassing. Archer/Sniper is probably the best choice from his original male class set, but he also makes a great Hunter/Horseman or Knight/General should you have beaten Hard mode already and have the combined male set, although probably best to level him a little in his base cavalier class first: HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res Archer/Sniper: 80% 45% 0% 55% 85% 60% 35% 0% Hunter/Horseman: 80% 55% 0% 50% 80% 60% 30% 0% [Hard mode] Knight/General: 100% 50% 0% 55% 55% 60% 55% 0% [Hard mode] Rating: 8.5/10 =============== 5. A level gives Speed Bond) Comments: Cecil specializes in high skill and speed, and with those growths, she's guaranteed to cap them. She is somewhat difficult to train in the beginning because of her low durability, compared to Luke and Rody. Her strength actually isn't too bad, as she comes close to capping it on average (25). She will still become a very good unit, despite her defense growth being lower then the other two cavaliers, but still quite decent. Overall, while I think she's slightly worse then Luke and Rody, she still makes a great unit nevertheless, but might need some help with strength or defense via an energy drop or a dracoshield. Reclassing Options: Will be solid in her original Cavalier class, but if you wanted her to have more defense, consider switching her over to general after she promotes so she can have a 45% defense growth, which isn't too bad. Suprisingly, she has a high magic growth, so she might make a good mage, but for one thing: she has 0 base defense at base level, and a 0% defense growth, which is certainly very risky, but you could try it: HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res General: 90% 45% 5% 65% 65% 50% 45% 0% Mage: 50% 20% 50% 65% 80% 50% 0% 20% Sage/Bishop: 50% 15% 40% 65% 85% 50% 0% 30% Rating: 8/10 =============== 6. He can help out at the start, but drop him later on. At least he's better then Jagen in Shadow Dragon. He also might do better swapped to swordmaster, but he really should be dropped. Any experience he gets is wasted on his basically nonexistant growths. Reclassing Options: Swordmaster, Dracoknight or General, mostly for jeigan purposes, as he is not much better in the way of growths in them. He is decent, but his better start will quickly be outshined by his brother Ryan's growths. Use him if you want an easier starting time, but his growths will let him down a bit further down the line. He does get slightly better luck then Ryan, however this is pretty much the only thing he wins in. While he will have a worse start then Gordin, he will eventually turn out much better then him. HP, strength, speed and defense are all very good, and skill is pretty much guaranteed to cap. His luck is the only thing going to drag somewhat, since he starts out with 3 base. By endgame he will be a lean, mean critting machine. He could benefit from getting at least a couple levels in the prologue to start him off. Reclassing Options: Ryan does even better as a hunter and should you have completed hard mode already you should definately consider switching him over to it, perhaps after he gains at least a few points of speed. Otherwise Ryan should probably bet kept as either an Archer or a Hunter, due to having to build up weapon ranks and having shaky base stats: HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res Hunter/Horseman: 80% 60% 0% 75% 45% 40% 30% 0% [Hard mode] Rating: 9/10 =============== 9. His defense is good enough to be able to cap it as a general. He will probably cap speed, and will be a good tank throughout the game. His strength is somewhat lacking although, for a knight at least. I've heard he's better class swapped as other classes, like Hunter or Pirate. A good choice for a general that is there right from the start of the game. Reclassing Options: While Draug is pretty good for a knight, he becomes better when reclassed, especially to Hunter or Pirate. This makes him more like a "glass cannon" but generally better then he was before, and the improved movement and class is a godsend. While it takes a while to get weapon ranks back up on par with other units, he pays it off for having extremely high attack later on, but his defense will suffer as a result of this (well, he never had the greatest defense growth to begin with anyway): HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res Hunter/Horseman: 60% 45% 0% 45% 75% 40% 30% 0% Pirate/Berserker: 90% 55% 0% 45% 80% 40% 25% 0% Rating: 7.5/10 ==================== 10. She will get good luck, but will always be a bit on the weak side with HP and defense. A 12 luck base is very nice, though. It's better to start training her at this point, as Yumina is the only real other standard healer that can compare to her. Once she becomes a bishop she can start doing some really nice damage, even with just a fire tome, because of her high magic growth. Reclassing Options: With such high magic growth, even as a Cleric, Malliesia could be a good candidate for a Mage. That is, of course if you are willing to sacrifice a healer, and be stuck with a fire tome if you reclass her before she has promoted to bishop. Decent bases, and pretty insane growths with room to grow means that she is useful in any circumstances. Don't even think about not using, Catria is your GODDESS! She grows speed and skill absurdly fast and has great hp and defense for a pegasus knight, and still manages to have good strength and luck. Also, she has a triangle attack with her sisters Palla and Est, if that wasn't enough to sell her. Reclassing Options: She has a lot. Really, any physical class is usuable to great effect, but of these, Cavalier and Myrmidon stand out. You can either promote her to Falcoknight or Dracoknight aswell, and she'll still do great as them aswell. The only thing she lacks is somewhat subpar defense. (In the SNES version he had a 10% speed growth) He's pretty similiar to Gordin. Actually, he's probably the best character in the game that starts as a Hunter/Horseman, although Castor is alright too. His skill, strength and speed are all pretty decent. He does well or average in everything but he doesn't really excel in anything except strength, which is nice but not amazing. His speed growth is lower than Castor's, which could perhaps become a problem since it's only 40%, but otherwise he's pretty good. Reclass Options: Warren is probably best in his Hunter class, because he isn't really that much better when switched to anything else. I prefer him over Bord because he actually has good enough speed and is more balanced overall, except from perhaps defense, but all three fighters have the defense problem. He's good enough to use, but I would recommend waiting for Barst instead. He starts with an E in axes, however, which can be annoying to train up. He has a triangle attack with Bord and Barst. Reclassing Options: Like for most average units, I say keep them in their original class. She WILL cap skill, probably strength aswell, but she barely caps speed on average, meaning she grows little speed unfortunately. She also gains almost no luck for a pegasus knight. Luckily enough, she starts out with base 16 speed and 9 luck, which is enough to get her started. Nevertheless, she's a great unit to use, probably in combination with Catria. She has a triangle attack with Catria and Est. Reclassing Options: Palla does very well as pegasus knight, the only really problem being her speed deficiency. It might be a good idea then to promote her to Falconknight instead of Dracoknight, as she gains some extra speed. Only problem with this is that you have to get an Elysian Whip in order to promote, and that might take a while. He has a triangle attack with Cord and Barst, if you're willing to use him. He does have a higher axe rank then Cord, though, and can use that hammer he comes with straight away, which might be useful, but generally is not worth using unless you really want that triangle attack. Ogma 5 11 18

Comments: She is actually pretty good, but honestly, why would you want to
train a level 2 cleric at this time? Assuming you've been using Malliesia,
there's no real reason to use her. Nice speed and luck though. Too bad she
comes at level 2, if she were a bit higher level and had some sort of
incentive to use her, it would be worth it. (In FE3, the rescue stave was
locked to her, but now anyone can use it, provided they have a stave rank)

Reclassing Options: Once again, does best in her original Cleric class, but
also has the choice of going a Mage/Sage, and she can still do it better then
her brother Yubello, as she actually has some magic. This is still probably not
worth it, however, as her initial Staff C rank is much more useful than just
having another mage on your team, that doesn't really excel in anything:

Ogma 5 11 18

Comments: He's... uh... well, I think 1 magic base sums it up. As a mage.
He does have a better magic growth then Linde and Merric, but he isn't worth
it in the long run. His skill also starts bad, so you'll pretty much need to
give leech kills to him if you want to use him at all. He can barely kill
weak thieves when he joins, a real winner in my book. You'll find if you train
him that he doesn't turn out that bad, but it's just less effort to train Linde,
Merric or Ellerean.

Reclassing Options: Since reclassing him as Curate would make him have even
less magic, his best bet is to just stay as mage.

23. Sirius [3SIR]
=================
Class: Paladin
Weapon Rank: Sword B, Lance A
Starting Items: Steel Lance, Iron Sword.
Appearance: Wears a mask, with wavy messy blonde hair. Has a patterned brown
overcoat.
Bio: A mysterious masked knight. His identity is unclear. Though it seems he
is connected to Grust and princess Nyna...
Recruitment: Talk to him with Ogma in Chapter 4.

Nyna 0 0 0
Belf -- -- -- (Convos: 2,5,8. A level gives Strength Bond)

Comments: A prepromote that's actually pretty good. His growths are good, but
he isn't as good as he was back in FE3. He makes a pretty good paladin overall,
with stats being a bit worse then Luke's once you train him up. He does,
however, come early in the game with great weapon ranks. (Sword B and Lance A)
and his growths aren't too shabby either. He is needed to recruit Nyna in the
final chapter, so you might want to train him up a bit so he can manage a bit
better. All in all, a great addition to your team. Just wait a while before you
start using him as he does come promoted, and the rest of your team could use
that experience early in the game.

Reclassing Options: Sirius can class change to Dracoknight or Swordmaster
especially and be very useful, but this is more a matter of what class you
want him as, and what type of growths you want him to have, as he does well
as both of them, and he's not bad by any means if you keep him as a paladin
aswell. Another possibility could also be as a Sniper:

                    HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res
Dracoknight: 95% 65% 0% 55% 65% 60% 45% 10%

Starting Items: Killer Bow.
Appearance: Weak looking. Parted blue hair, blue armour.
Bio: Hunter from Talys. He earns gold for his aging mother. During the War of

Marth 5 11 18
Shiida 5 11 18

Comments: While Castor does get a slight speed boost on Warren, he is pretty
much inferior to him in everything else. If you want to use a horseman, you're
probably already training up Warren, so it would be best to bench him. If
you're not, then Castor would make a decent horseman, but doesn't really break
boundaries in any stat, his highest being speed and strength. He does start
at level 7 with a good bow rank, (C) though.

Reclassing Options: Like Warren, he's just best as his initial Hunter/Horseman
if you're planning on using him.

Class: Pegasus Knight >> Falcon Knight/Dracoknight

Starting Items: Wing Spear, Javelin.
Appearance: Deep blue long hair. White shoulderpads and breastplate, dark red

Bio: Princess of Talys. She loves her fiance, Marth. She persuaded many

Malliesia -- -- -- (Convos: 3,6,10. A level gives Resistance Bond)

Comments: Too much emphasize on skill, speed and luck, I think, which leaves
her strength and defense pretty low. She can be good, but I think that Palla
and Catria will have covered all your pegasus knight needs so far. Use her if
you want. She will cap skill, speed and luck early, at least. The wing spear
can be pretty useful, though. It's a shame too, as if her strength and defense
was a bit higher she would be a kickass character.

Reclassing Options: Not much, except for perhaps cavalier.

Class: Fighter >> Warrior
Weapon Rank: Axe D
Starting Items: Steel Axe, Hand Axe, Vulnerary.
Appearance: Wavy blue hair, like Warren's. Dirty brown headband. Blue
sleeveless shirt.
Bio: Former woodcutter from Talys. He has a mild-mannered personality. During
the War of Shadows, he aided Marth together with Ogma, but later left Talys
for whereabouts unknown.

Bord 5 11 18
Cord 5 11 18

Comments: Barst has really good HP, strength, skill, and speed for a fighter.
I think he's pretty much better then Bord and Cord, and makes a great warrior.
I recommend to use him, as he's your best bet for a base fighter that isn't
My Unit!Fighter. He has a lower speed growth than Cord, but higher then Bord.
I think it is a pretty good balance between them. That being said, he just
caps speed, (on level 20/20) so don't be suprised if his speed lags behind
most of his other stats. Good thing is, that he has 11 speed base as a level 5
fighter, which is very nice. He has a triangle attack with Bord and Cord.

Reclassing Options: Barst is better as a Pirate compared to a Fighter, so it's
recommended to change him into one. I've tried other things like Mercenary, but
I think he just does best as a Pirate:

Dice 4 9 15
Malice 4 9 15

Comments: He's pretty useless compared to Julian. He'll never really be that
good, so just take his VIP card and ditch him. You probably don't need another
thief anyway. He can help a bit in Chapter 6, though. He is beaten in every
growth by Julian, with the exception of speed, which he ties. Plus Julian
starts off as a level 6 thief with much better base stats. The only thing
he can really do is utility.

Comments: Frey is actually pretty good, and he comes fully equipped with a
killer lance. His growths are almost the same as Rody, actually, balancing out
strength/defense and skill/speed. If you've neglected training a cavalier up to
this point, use Frey; he's pretty good. He could make a nice support unit also
even if you already have another cavalier. He is able to get a B support with
Palla and Catria, which is certainly useful should you be using them aswell.

Draug 5 11 18
Gordin 5 11 18

Comments: Basically Gordin with more speed and skill sacrificed for 5%
strength. If you havn't been using Ryan, she's a pretty good substitute,
I would say. Her luck can get pretty high aswell. Her skill and strength
also get pretty close to the cap at 20/20. She has pretty decent base stats,
but level 5 should be pretty low compared to the rest of your team right now.
It might take a little work, but she does make a very good sniper.

Reclassing Options: Due to her bases and weapon rank, there's really no point
in reclassing her to anything else apart from Archer.

Nabarl 5 10 16

Comments: Samto is a pretty poor myrmidon; he only has a 30% skill growth.
His speed and HP are his only noteworthy points. Wait for a better character.
He also comes at level 5, but unlike Norne, he doesn't really have much
incentive to use him right now. Least he comes with a starsphere. But yeah,
compared to Radd/Nabarl/Malice, this guy is nothing. He does have a better
chance of being able to train then Athena, I guess.

Reclassing Options: If anything, I would say Cavalier/Paladin, as that somewhat
balancing out his growths more, but then he has trouble in the speed department.
Grrr. I would say keep him as myrmidon if using him, however.

Comments: A prepromoted sage that's only really useful for recruiting Ellerean,
that's about it. His magic is poor and his other stats aren't much better.
I wouldn't use him. Take his blizzard tome, recruit Ellerean with him, and then
let him rot on the usused characters screen.

Reclassing Options: Just leave him as a Sage or a Bishop, should you need to use

quickly, should you need the utility.

Comments: Caesar is pretty much inferior in every way to Ogma, but still
manages to be a decent character. If you already using Ogma, he's really not
worth training. He does manage good Hp, strength, skill and speed though. He
has a little bit worse base stats then Ogma too, even though they both start
at the same level. While he isn't the greatest character ever, he can still
become a pretty good hero.

Reclassing Options: I can't see him being anything else apart from a Mercenary,
though. People said he made a good Dark Mage/Sorcerer in Shadow Dragon, but I
don't think he's that great as one now.

Comments: Radd is an above average myrmidon should you choose to train him.
He has great strength and acceptable skill, speed and luck. A better choice
then Samto, but still lacking somewhat. He will also have a pretty bad start,
being able to deploy in Chapter 7 as a level 5, where you get Nabarl anyway.
Sadly Nabarl ties or beats him in every stat except strength, but it's only 5%
more and he has worse base stats then Nabarl. A clearly inferior character when
compared to Nabarl, but like Caesar, makes a pretty good swordmaster
nevertheless.

Reclassing Options: Should you have unlocked the merged class sets, he makes
a decent Mercenary/Hero, although it would probably be better to keep him as
Myrmidon for the most part.

Feena -- -- -- (Convos: 3,6,10. A level gives Speed Bond)

Comments: Nabarl takes what Radd was and makes his skill and luck better.
His bases are also really good. Nabarl will retain high HP, strength, skill,
luck and of course, speed. He's your best bet for a swordmaster. It's too
bad the dodge formula means that the myrmidon class is not at it's full
potential, but swordmaster does give +10 avoid on promotion, so it'll help.
After becoming a swordmaster, he will be pretty much unstoppable when given a
high might or crit sword, especially.

Reclassing Options: Nabarl does really well as a Cavalier, actually, where he
can be very useful, plus a little more durable then him as a myrmidon, which is
nice:

Comments: Feena has some crazy growths, especially when she starts out with
2 strength and 2 skill and has a 60% and 80% growth in them respectively.
Level her up by dancing, and you will quickly be able to use her as a fighter,
as she doesn't do too badly, either. Only problem is that her HP and defense
stay somewhat low, and she can only get to level 30. I'd still recommend using
her because the ability to refresh another unit's turn is extremely useful.
Too bad she can't use a rapier like in the original, but she can use swords
still.

Rating: 10/10 (If you like to use dancers, of course. She's a great fighter
too.)

Abel 0 3 7

Comments: Another cavalier, if you didn't already have enough of those. Like
Frey, he's actually pretty decent. He barely caps strength and luck on
average, but he always has high skill and speed. He does well overall, and
should you not be using Frey or any of the starting three cavaliers, here's
your guy. He has nice base strength and defense, but those are two of his worst
growths, actually.

Reclassing Options: I think he is probably best as Cavalier/Paladin, but
dropping him into Myrmidon or Mercenary (If hard mode merged class sets are
unlocked) for a while perhaps isn't a bad idea.

Comments: Do I even need to say anything? Okay, Bantu's growths and bases
are terrible, have been terrible, and always will be terrible. Don't use him,
and give his weapon to Tiki once you get her. Only reason he gets a 2 is
because he has that dragonstone, aside from the small utility he can give you

Comments: Roger is a pretty good knight, and has more standard growths then
Draug, his HP, strength and defense being key. He also strangely gets pretty
high luck. His skill and speed really aren't too bad either, but it might be
a pain to train him at this point. He actually has really good growths a part
from sub par speed. He should cap HP, strength, speed, and defense. It's a pity
that generals are so much worse in this game.

Reclassing Options: Roger actually has a few options in his class set - either
Mercenary, Pirate, or Hunter. Unfortunately these all mean that you have to
work up your weapon exp from rank E. If the class sets are merged, Cavalier
might also be a good idea:

Astram 0 3 7 (Convos: 2,4,6. A level gives Strength Bond)

Comments: A prepromote sniper with poor, poor stats. There really is no saving
Jeorge, he just sucks. Take the Parthia off him and ditch him. The best he
can really do endgame is chip damage, and he just becomes a liability. He does
come with an A in bows, though, so he could technically use the Parthia
instantly, if you want. Need him to recruit Astram though, which is annoying,
if you're bringing him into chapter 16 untrained.

Reclassing Options: You don't want him losing his Bow A rank, so if it's
reclassing into anything apart from Horseman... or perhaps Warrior, then I don't
think so. Not that he does particularly better in those classes anyway.

Comments: Minerva comes promoted, but she has pretty decent bases and growths.
She will never be one of your killer units, but she does well enough to be
a good dracoknight. You need her to recruit Maria in the final chapter,
aswell, so it's well worth training her at least a bit. She is also needed to
recruit Michalis, should you want to. Well, recruiting is worth it for the star
shard if nothing else, but she still makes a good unit.

Reclassing Options: Minerva can make a great Sniper, General or Swordmaster but
is also probably left in her Dracoknight original class so she can keep her A
in axes. She can dip into Sniper, General or Swordmaster should you need one,
however.

Comments: Etzel actually turns out surprisingly okay despite coming promoted.
His magic, skill and speed are all good. He's the only character in the game
to come as a Dark Mage/Sorcerer in their native class, and he isn't too bad
as a secondary healer or fighting unit. Like all mages, he will have somewhat
low HP, but for a mage he has a good defense growth. Don't expect very
good speed or luck compared to Linde or Merric, though.

Reclassing Options: I like to keep him as a Sorcerer, actually, although having
him as a Bishop or Sage isn't that bad idea either.

Comments: Merric makes a very good sage should you choose to use him. He is
required in the final chapter to recruit Elice, but he really isn't a bad
character to use at all. His magic will be a bit lacking, so you might want
to consider giving him a Spirit Dust, but other then that, his stats should
all be good. He will also cap speed much faster then Ellerean, so that's a
plus. He also comes with Excalibur, which definately helps his case.

Reclassing Options: Having him as a Curate/Bishop is pretty much a waste of a
good Mage, although Dark Mage is an option should you have hard mode beat.

Comments: I don't really know about Ellerean... he is recruitable in the same
chapter as Merric, has about the same base stats as Merric, but worse growths.
He's decent, no doubt about it, but Merric does beat him in luck and skill
especially. Ellerean does win in defense and hp, though, so he's more like a
tanky mage. He's above average, and very usable, but is harder to train then
Merric, and is not required in the final chapter like Merric. Comes with a
Thoron.

Comments: Okay, so Dice is basically a worse Barst. His growths are all lower,
and his bases don't make up for it much as a level 12. It isn't really worth
it to use him. He will cap HP and strength, but this isn't really suprising
as a fighter, as so do Bord and Cord. He comes with a devil axe, which might
not be the best idea as he has relatively low luck. He can be good if you put
work into him, but generally Cord or Barst should already be your established
fighter guy. Vikings are cool though.

Reclassing Options: Like the other fighters, Dice could probably use a switch
over to Pirate/Berserker to help him out a little, as he needs the speed
especially, although his skill and defense become rather pathetic then:

Rickard 4 9 15

Comments: Malice is good, but not good enough to hold a candle to Nabarl.
She also has a worrying 5% defense growth, which is really risky for a melee
unit. Nice base strength and defense though. She's usable, certainly, if you
have no myrmidons to train already. Consider giving her a Dracoshield to
improve her defense should you have one spare. Except her defense, all of her
other stats including strength and pretty good, and strangely she has a 10%
resistance growth too.

Reclassing Option: Because of Malice's defense problem, it might be a good
idea to switch her over to become a Cavalier/Paladin, because it helps her
in strength and defense - the only problem being her speed will be worse:

Comments: Urgh. Horace is a prepromote general that focuses solely on HP
and defense, which is funny because he doesn't even max either on average.
Strength and defense is good, but all his other stats are yuck. That speed...
He's really pretty crap, except for his strength and defense. Expect him to
get doubled, a lot. He's pretty poor overall, and it doesn't help that he
starts out as a level 3 general.

Reclassing Option: I don't really think there is any class that can help him
out much - may as well get his high defense in the general class anyway.

Minerva 4 9 15
Malliesia 4 9 15

Comments: Jake has awful, awful bases. It's too bad he starts as a level 1
warrior, as if he either had higher bases or started as a fighter, he would
have actually been a pretty good unit with his growths being as high as they
are. I can't bring myself to completely hate him, but he is very hard to train
and probably not worth it in the long run. He should cap speed should you get
him to level up to be effective enough to handle himself.

Reclassing Options: Jake does better if he is class swapped. For choices, good
choices are Berserker or Horseman in class set B, or if class sets are merged,
Sniper is a very good choice, allowing for a 100% speed growth whil balancing
other growths well too:

                    HP - Str - Mag - Skl - Spd - Lck - Def - Res

Comments: Darros is the only Pirate/Berserker native class unit you get in
this game, and he's pretty good. Good bases, coupled with decent growths
make him a good unit to use. High HP and strength, of course, and his speed
isn't too bad either. It's a shame his skill and luck are average.

Reclassing Option: Keep him as a berserker, he's fine as he is.

Leiden 5 10 -- (Convos: 2,5,8. A level gives Speed Bond)

Comments: His stats aren't that great, and his growths aren't much better. You
should probably take Warren or Castor over this guy if you want a horseman.
Otherwise I say pass. His averages at 20/20 may label him as decent, the
problem is if you can get him to level at all with his low base stats. His
speed looks nice though, until you realize that Leiden has the same, and he's a
level 15 cavalier.

Reclassing Options: Sniper, I guess. He isn't great either way, but I'd rather
have him as a Horseman like he is then a Sniper, should I use him.

Robert 5 10 --
Leiden 5 10 --

Comments: Belf actually has good bases, but shouldn't you already have a
cavalier trained up by this point? He's not bad, but he leaves much to be
desired, and Luke, Rody or Cecil will pretty much be better then him by this
time. That 14 base strength is very nice, but his 12 base speed is what takes
the hit compared to Leiden's 15. A good substitute cavalier, certainly, but
not uber impressive.

Reclassing Options: I'd suggest keeping him as Cavalier, at least until
promotion, and then you can decide if you want to make him a Dracoknight or a
Swordmaster, as these are probably his two best classes to class change into.
He still does good as a paladin, however.

Robert 5 10 -- (Convos: 2,5,8. A level gives Speed Bond)
Belf 5 10 --

Comments: Leiden has slightly worse bases then Belf, but slightly better
growths. It's so minimal that they basically turn out the same, but once again,
he's not worth it compared to Luke/Rody/Cecil/Frey or even Cain. He does get
higher skill, luck and speed on average then Belf, but Belf gets more HP,
strength, and defense. He also starts with more speed then Belf, which is
certainly helpful. Makes a good substitute cavalier should you need one, but
don't expect anything outstanding.

Reclassing Options: Like Belf, he is pretty good as a Paladin, but can reap
the benefits of changing to Dracoknight or Swordmaster should he promote. It
all depends on which class you personally like the most, however.

Jake 5 -- --

Comments: I take back what I said about Robert, this guy is worse. He does
have good enough growths, but his bases drag him down so much that he is
basically unsalvagable. You'll probably find no use for him at this point,
and even if you manage to level him, his 20/20 averages are not very
impressive. I think they wanted you to class change him to a sage, considering
his pretty high magic growth and the fact his support with My Unit gives a
magic bond, which is very strange.

Reclassing Option: Wanna try making him a Sorcerer - he has a 40% magic growth,
haha. Really, Beck has no chance at any other class, when he can barely be
acceptable in his own. Keep him as Horseman, if anything.

Marth 4 8 13

Comments: A level 10 myrmidon at this point in the game is basically suicide.
You'll find it very hard to train her, with no real gain (she turns out a bit
better then Malice, but that's about it.) She is rather useful for her
prologue utility though, so I put her score up a bit for that. I would say
the effort in training her is really not worth it, as she'll turn out worse
then a trained Nabarl probably, anyway.

Reclassing Options: I have no idea how to make her survive at this point in
the game, honestly. The only solution would probably be to make her into a
cavalier so she would be somewhat easier to train, but again the pay off is
really not worth it anyway.

aside from defense and magic help her, too. The Divinestone she comes with

Abel 0 3 7 (Convos: 2,4,6. A level gives Speed Bond)

Comments: Est comes underleveled, but has insane growths, as her whole
archetype is based around. If you put effort into training her, she can be
better then Catria (!) but, because it is such a pain to train her, (you need
to baby her, basically) she lost some score for that. Use if you can be
bothered raising a low level at this point in the game. She does have somewhat
low HP, however, but higher luck compared to Catria. She isn't bad, but the
main reason why you wouldn't use her is you probably already have a team, and
it will take a lot of time before she catches up to Catria or Palla if you
chose to train them. She has a triangle attack with her sisters Catria and
Palla.

Reclassing Options: She does pretty well as a Falcon Knight or Dracoknight when
promoted from Pegasus Knight, but I also like when she is class swapped to
Paladin to utilize the Paladin's high stat caps. It works out pretty well
overall, and she still has very nice growth as a Cavalier/Paladin:

Tomas 3 6 --
Midia 2 4 --

Comments: Dolph isn't a very good unit because of his low speed growth and
base stats. Draug or Roger should be better then him at this point. He and
Horace are actually pretty similiar, which is really not good for him. He will
quickly be doubled and then left in the dust. He's beaten or ties in all
growths except skill by Macellan, although he does have somewhat a better
join time. (Macellan has trouble starting out) Dolph isn't the greatest
general to use, overall, and is quite poor.

Reclassing Options: The only thing that can help Dolph is changing to a
Berserker, which would help out Dolph's ailing speed, but it would be better
then nothing, I guess. I personally think it makes him slightly better, even
if you have to work up your axe rank again. He still is below average however.

Comments: Poor Abel. His great growths (well, for a pre promote paladin, even
though Luke's do beat his.) don't save him from the fact that his bases are
going to to be worse then anyone you have trained up to now. I say pass. He
really isn't that terrible a unit, though, and can be used if needed. It's just
that there are so many cavaliers/paladins in this game that you should have at
least one by now.

Reclassing Options: I'd keep him as a Paladin, personally.

Tomas 3 6 --
Midia 2 4 --

Comments: Macellan is actually better then Dolph in this, maybe because of his
higher speed growth. The only thing Dolph has on him is skill, which eh...
He still isn't that great, but he certainly is better then Dolph and Horace.
He does however come as a level 1 general which doesn't help his start when
his base stats are worse then Dolph's. He has much more in the way of
potential, however. Use him if you want, but he is still outshined by Draug
and Roger.

Reclassing Options: Like Dolph, it would probably be better to keep him as
a General, as the only real other option would be to go Paladin or Dracoknight
if the class sets are merged to keep his lance rank. They aren't that much
better then General, but they do have a better speed growth, which could help
out Macellan's relatively low growth, (40%) but his are at least better then
Dolph's 20% and thus not as much of a hindrance regardless.

Comments: He's decent, and has a good sword rank. And he comes with Mercurius.
Honestly, he's usable, but Ogma or even Caesar are probably superior to him
by now. He might be a good filler character should you have no units with
a good sword rank, but I highly doubt that. Well, least you can have that
Mercurius finally. Yoink!

Reclassing Options: We're getting to the stage where characters are just the
best as their original class and swapping them makes almost no big difference,
or just makes them worse. Astram is one of them, as I haven't been able to get
him to get much better via class changing, so Hero it is.

Comments: Guh. Bad base stats, good enough growths, but not enough ground to
make up those bad base stats with. She really finds it hard to kill anything.
She has a bad start, joining in 16x, and becomes... average. While she will
have as much magic as Linde, Linde has much more skill, and luck, and has a
much easier start. Katarina's defense is pretty high for a sage, however, and
apparently she has a ton of defense as a general. Could be useful, but you
probably already have a better sage.

Reclassing Options: If you want her to be a heal spammer, turn her into a
Bishop, as her weapon ranks aren't that bad. Otherwise, just keep her as a
Sage.

Midia 2 4 --

Comments: Tomas can do some damage in the chapter he joins in, but after that
he is basically downgraded to bench warmer. Too bad, as well. His growths
are quite good. Once again, has the problem of "can't kill stuff to use his
good growths", which a lot of characters have in this game. Should you get
him to level, you'll find that his strength, skill and speed all grow really
fast, but its really insignificant anyway because of his base stats; Gordin
turns out better then him on average.

Reclassing Options: Horseman? I actually haven't seen if he is better as a
Horseman, but I think it would probably be better to keep him as Sniper anyway.

Comments: Grrr... Those bases. Man. Even with those great growths, she's
not worth it. With higher caps, she is clearly not as useful. I say bench.
Like I said with Tomas, not enough room to grow and too late to be able to
get exp effectively. Even Dolph and Horace beat her in HP and defense on
average, although she does have quite good strength, skill and speed, probably
not worth it. Funnily, her defense is her lowest growth but her highest base
stat by quite a bit. She turns out well rounded on average, but it is very
difficult to train her.

Reclassing Options: While you could play around with a few classes, I've only
kept her as a General, plus it would get rid of her massive defense base if you
swapped to something else.

a filler Hero should you need one. He has a good axe rank, should you be
lacking someone like that, you could use him, but you likely already have a
axe user. He really doesn't become more then okay, though. Once again,

Comments: Sedgar... what did they do to you?... Not only have his growths
been completely butchered, but even if he did have his old growths, he only
has 10 levels to gain. With horrible bases. The fact that he is basically
plain unusable at this far through the game means he's pretty much screwed.
Even if you manage to pull off a mini-miracle and train him by normal means,
his 20/20 averages are poor at best. No. Just no.

Reclassing Options: Still no ideas.

69. Wolf [3WOL]

Class: Horseman
Weapon Rank: Sword D, Bow B
Starting Items: Silver Bow, Dracoshield.
Appearance: Wavy purple hair that is covering one of his eyes. Purple collar,
and orange armour and shoulder plates. Brown straps underneath.

he aided Marth together with Hardin.

Comments: I think Wolf is slightly better then Sedgar because of his higher
bases, but he is level 12, leaving even LESS potential for him. Well, it
isn't like you are going to use him anyway, so might as well have better bases
for the chapter he appears in. He will also turn out better then Sedgar,
should you be able to get him to level 20/20. Not that it's particularly saying
much, he'll still be poor at best.

Class: Paladin
Weapon Rank: Sword C, Lance B
Starting Items: None.
Appearance: Short blue hair. Pinkish purple armour with a purple undershirt.

Tomas 2 4 --

Comments: A mediocre paladin. She comes at level 12, and she doesn't really
have much room to grow. I'll say this again, but you should have already
better by this point. I'll even take a trained Matthis or Abel over her.
She also has a 15% resistance growth, which is pretty weird for a physical
damage unit. She is alright, but don't expect anything spectacular.

Reclassing Options: Better to keep her as a Paladin, even if she may be
mediocre.

71. Ymir [3YMI]
===============
Class: Warrior
Weapon Rank: Axe B, Bow C
Starting Items: Silver Axe, Killer Bow, Vulnerary.
Appearance: Deep purple spiky hair. Wearing a brown fur coat. Has sort of
green/black face paint.
Bio: Fighter from the frontier lands. Despite appearances, he's a kind-hearted
man. During the War of Shadows, he fought for the villagers who treated him
well.

Marth 0 2 --

Comments: I think he's decent too, but we're coming to the end of the game,
and he doesn't really have anything spectular to give to your team. I would
bench him. Should you have trained Bord/Cord/Barst or even Dice, they still
would have capped HP and strength, which Ymir fails to do on average. (just)
Oh well. Least his speed and defense growths and bases are decent for a
prepromote warrior.

Reclassing Options: While swapping him to Beserker might be an alright idea,
he loses his bow rank, and his chance to use a Killer Bow, which is definitely
not a bad thing. Keep as Warrior, I think.

Class: Dracoknight
Weapon Rank: Lance B, Axe B
Starting Items: Silver Lance, Javelin.
Appearance: Pretty long red hair with a huge collar from a brown overcoat.
Patterned in silver. Has a purple cape.
Bio: King of Medon. He killed his father, the previous king, to secure the
throne. He was defeated by Marth in the War of Shadows. Wanting to repent.
Recruitment: From Chapter 22's battle preparations if you had Minerva wait on
the Chapter 21 village for a turn and then visit it with Marth.

Maria 0 0 0

Comments: What? There's someone that isn't a crappy prepromote? Okay well,
he only gets 2 full chapters and the final chapter to use in, but his bases
are actually extremely good. Except luck. 2 Luck. Ouch. You'll soon see that
enemies will often have high crit rates against him. Might be a bit risky to
use him, but if you give him a couple of Goddess Icons, he should be fine.
Should you give him levels, you'll see that his growths are actually quite
good, and should be pleased with the results. The fact that he's only around
for 3 chapters makes it quite unlikely you'll reach his full potential, but
he caps skill and speed on average, with high defense and strength.

Reclassing Options: While you could experiment, all I have done so far is
keep him as a Dracoknight, and it worked pretty well. I don't know if he does
better as any other class, but once again I kept him as his original class.

Comments: She has about the same growths as Tiki, with roughly the same
averages for level 30. I'm not sure if using her will be that worth it, but
eh. If you have been using Tiki, she will probably have better stats then her
at this point, if not, you can go ahead and use her. She'll turn out pretty
good, although I'd like to see you try to level her in the 3 chapters of the
game left. She comes with a divinestone, like Tiki.
