With the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, players saw the ability to trade with players all over the world via the GTS, turning Pokemon into a truly global experience. Nintendo takes it one step further in Black and White by introducing a fully interactive online game where it is possible to transfer a Pokemon you have caught in the DS game onto the internet. Known as the Dream World, players can to explore their Pokemon's dreams and catch exclusive Pokemon to take back to their main game, among other things. Since the Global Link is a brand new aspect of Pokemon, there is sure to be much confusion among players new to the game. The goal of this guide is to provide an in-depth exploration of all the features of the Global Link and Dream World itself for beginners as well as for advanced players who seek more strategies and information about this feature. *** This guide was written for GameFAQs/Gamespot only and should NOT be seen on other sites without my permission. You MAY NOT modify any part of this guide or claim it as your own. ______________________________________________________________________________ ============================================================================== /o Game Sync and the Global Link / [C000] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ / Creating your Pokemon Trainer Club account / [C001] ---------------------------------------------- Before you can start playing, you will need to create an account first. The international version of the Global Link runs off of the official Pokemon website, so head on to http://www.pokemon.com to start. On the top-right corner of the page, there is a button that links to the sign-up page. Follow the instructions to create your own Pokemon Trainer Club account. After receiving a confirmation e-mail and activating your account, you may use it to explore the user areas of pokemon.com (I'll leave the exploring for you to do), and more importantly, it can also be used on the Global Link website at http://www.pokemon-gl.com . / Syncing your game / [C002] --------------------- After you have your account, you'll need to perform a syncronization process in your actual Pokemon game to link your account to your game and to access all the areas of the website. Activate your C-Gear, which can be obtained early on in the game at Striaton City after completing the quest involving Fennel. Tap the glowing "Online" portion of the screen, and you will be taken to a large button labeled "Game Sync." The game will now attempt to connect to Nintendo's online server. After a few minutes of waiting, you will be assigned a Game Sync ID, which appears on the top screen. Now log in to the Global Link website and go to your profile by clicking on the button on the left side panel. On the left, there is a button that says "Game Registration." Here, you may register up to two Game Sync IDs: one for Black version and one for White version. If you ever need to see your Game Sync ID again, go to the Main Menu screen (the one right after the title screen) and scroll down to check it. Please note that if this is your first time using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you will need to set up your wi-fi connection first. There is a Settings button on the bottom right of the C-Gear on the Game Sync screen. You will be taken to a menu where you can set up your connections. This part is beyond the scope of the guide, so if you are having any connection issues, refer to your Instruction Booklet or seek help from the official Nintendo website. / Tucking in your Pokemon / [C003] --------------------------- When you currently do not have a Pokemon that is tucked in already, accessing the Game Sync option will take you to a screen that lets you select any Pokemon from your PC box to put to sleep. This Pokemon will appear when you access Dream World (esentially, you will be visiting this Pokemon's dream.) As far as I know, the species and type of Pokemon being tucked in does not affect anything inside Dream World, besides the Pokemon that is accompanying you. I would recommend using a Pokemon you like that you won't be using at the moment, since once the Pokemon is asleep, you won't be able to interact with it in your actual game. In some occassions, your Pokemon may gain a level after waking up, so please keep this in mind when tucking in valuable Pokemon. / Waking up your Pokemon / [C004] -------------------------- If you have a Pokemon that is sleeping, accessing the Game Sync again will give you the option of waking it up. This will return the Pokemon to your game. The Pokemon may gain a level after waking up, but otherwise it will remain unchanged. / The Entree Forest / [C005] -------------------- After you befriend a Pokemon in Dream World and send it back, it will not appear in you party or box immediately. You will have to travel to the Entralink in your game by accessing the Wireless section of your C-Gear, and going to the Entree Forest at the top of the screen. Like the Safari Zone or Pal Park in the earlier games, you do not send out your own Pokemon to battle these Pokemon. Instead, a special Dream Ball appears in your bag, which guarantees that the Pokemon will be captured. The Nature and IVs of the Pokemon are determined after you catch it, so you are able to soft reset until you find one you like. However, its gender and moveset will be set in stone after you transfer it online. These Pokemon will be at level 10, and are never shiny. ______________________________________________________________________________ ============================================================================== /o Global Link Feature: Your Profile / [D000] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ / Game Card Info and Pal Roster / [D001] --------------------------------- The first tab in your profile page outlines the details of the game file that is linked with your account, including basic information such as your trainer name, play time, and badges earned. Below that is a list of friends you have made in-game that also have an account on the Global Link. They will be categorized as either Friends or Trade Pals. A friend is someone you have interacted with and exchanged friend codes with in real life, while a trade pal is simply someone you have met over wi-fi only. / Dream World Stats and Dream Pal Roster / [D002] ------------------------------------------ This page displays information about your Dream World status, including how many dream points you have accumulated, the details of the Pokemon that was last tucked in, and the six most recent Pokemon that you have sent back to your game. Below is a list of Dream Pals, which are friends that you have made within Dream World only. / Global Battle Union Stats / [D003] --------------------------- This page keeps track of your records in the Global Battle Union. It displays your rating, ranking, and the number of wins and losses. Below is an area that saves information on the on-site competitions (which have yet to be released). Below that, you may type in a number of your Battle Video so other people can view it. You can upload a Battle Video by accessing the wi-fi room on the top-right of any Pokemon Center and selecting the Battle Video option. ______________________________________________________________________________ ============================================================================== /o Global Link Feature: The Global Battle Union / [E000] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ / About Ranked Battles / [E001] ------------------------ Ranked battles can be accessed from the Random Matchup located at the top-right of any Pokemon Center. They are different from the Free Battles in that your rating will change depending on how well you do in battle, which will determine your rank among all trainers around the world. Your rating starts at 1500. Another nice thing about ranked battles are that less people disconnect in the middle of battle because they may be penalized for doing so. / Season Rankings / [E002] ------------------- The ranking system for Pokemon battles are recorded by season. Each season lasts for three months, and rankings are updated weekly. You must battle at least ten times during a single season to be included in the ranking for that specific season. The season schedule for 2011 is as follows: Season 1: April 13, 2011 - June 28, 2011 Season 2: June 29, 2011 - September 27, 2011 Season 3: September 28, 2011 - December 27, 2011 Season 4: December 28, 2011 - March 27, 2012 / Competitions / [E003] --------------- Information coming when it becomes available. ______________________________________________________________________________ ============================================================================== /o Global Link Feature: Dream World / [F000] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To access the Dream World, click on the large purple button on the Global Link home page. Fennel will guide you through the process if it is your first time using the Dream World. To control site traffic, you may only play in the Dream World for an hour every day. Make sure to click the X button on the top right corner of the screen to end your session so your Pokemon can be woken up safely. When you are done for the day, there will be a counter on the purple Dream World button that tells you when you are able to access the Dream World again. / Dream Points and Unlocking New Content / [F001] ------------------------------------------ Before diving into the actual content, you should take notice of the Dream Point system, which is crucial to advancing in Dream World and unlocking new and better content. You gain Dream Points after participating in certain activities, BUT the game doesn't inform you when you gain these points. The only way to check how many points you currently have is by going to the Dream World tab on your profile. The following actions increase Dream Points: 10 points - Water berries 10 points - Pick berries 10-30 points - Complete a mini-game 50 Pokemon - Send a befriended Pokemon back to your game / Your Home and Decorations / [F002] ----------------------------- The first screen you see upon entering Dream World is your front door. Here, you may enter your house or check the doorstep for footprints of other Pokemon who have visited your house. The Pokemon that you have tucked in will appear here and will follow you in your adventure. The Pokemon will start off with a "..." which can change to a smily face after you have visited the Island of Dreams. When you have gained enough points, it will change to a music note. The decoration feature in previous generations have moved to this portion of Dream World. There are three rooms available for decorating, and furniture may be brought by accessing the red Catalog in your room. They can be bought for berries, and most are quite costly so don't expect to have a bunch of furniture right away. On the wall is the Friend Board. Check here to see which Pokemon will be sent back to your game after you wake up your Pokemon. You will only be able to take one Pokemon back per day under normal circumstances. The extra space is for event Pokemon. / Planting Berries / [F003] -------------------- Access this section by clicking the left arrow from your home or the right arrow from the dream isle. Since you are not given the option to plant berries in the actual game, you are given a chance to do so here. You start off with two rows of soil, and each row can hold three berries. You gain a third row after you accumulate 900 dream points, and a fourth one after 2100 points. After you first plant a berry, the soil will already be moist and will not require any watering. The time it takes for berries to grow depends on the type of berry and how much you water it. Once the soil around the berry turns brown, it can be watered. You should keep the soil moist whenever possible. / The Share Shelf / [F004] ------------------- Access this section by clicking the left arrow from the dream isle or the right arrow from your garden. You are given nine spots to fill up with items. Other people who visit your house can swap those items for some of their own. Since berries are rather difficult to come by when you are just starting out, only place items once you have an access of them. / Visiting Other Players and Footprint Mats / [F005] --------------------------------------------- You can check other people who have visited your house by looking at your Footprint Mat, located in front of your house. There are various ways to visit other people's houses. One is to check the details of the Pokemon who have left tracks on your Footprint Mat. There should be a link that takes you to that Pokemon's house. Another way to visit other people is to click on the "Check Dream Pal" button on the top- left of the screen while at the front of your house. Even if you do not currently have any Dream Pals, there may be a random house that appears for you to visit. Once you're at someone else's world, you may help them water their berries if the soil is dry. Remember that you can only do this 20 times per day, although that should be more than enough as it is actually quite difficult to find someone whose berries need watering. If the other person has items on their Share Shelf, you may pick any of them to swap with one of yours. Finally, you can visit their house and see the Pokemon that they last tucked in, as well as their decor. In addition, once you enter another user's house, you will leave a footprint for them so they will be able to find you. You can fill up your Dream Pal map and have your world connected to another player's. You can send a Dream Pal request when you are currently at the other player's world by clicking on the "Dream Pal Request" button. / The Island of Dreams / [F006] ------------------------ Access this section by clicking the left arrow from your garden or the right arrow from your share shelf. Click on the Dream Bridge to access the main part of Dream World, where you explore one of the areas to meet wild Pokemon and find berries. A flashing spot indicates that there is an item hidden there, while a shaking spot indicates that a Pokemon is hidden behind it. Once you meet a Pokemon, it will invite you to play a game, and it will join you after you earn a good score. After exploring ten screens of the map, you reach the Tree of Dreams. Here, you may offer a berry to befriend one of the Pokemon who have followed you so you can send it back to your game. You may choose to exit and go back to your home any time during your exploration by clicking the button on the top-left of the screen. You may return as many times as you want, as long as you have not made a wish at the Tree of Dreams for the day. This means that you can essentially play more games and find more items to rack up Dream Points. ______________________________________________________________________________ You may send a message to any of the friends on your Pal Roster that have accessed and activated their account. This feature really isn't that cool because you are only allowed to select from certain words and phrases. It's a lot like sending mail in the actual games, which no one really uses anyway. / Customization / [K003] ----------------- You can select add-ons to your Black or White game here, which will be updated whenever you access the Game Sync feature. There are skins to use on your Pokedex and C-Gear (which is especially helpful since then you won't have to stare at a plain black screen the entire time!), as well as an additional song to add to the Pokemon Musical. As you are only allowed to play for one hour every day, the game will end automatically once your hour is up. Even if you are in the middle of playing a mini-game, you will be taken to the exit screen to send your Pokemon back. Make it a habit to make a wish at the Tree of Dreams before the time is up so you're certain to have a Pokemon sent back to your game, since you may only do this once per day. ----- If you are just starting out and would like to advance in Dream World as fast as possible to gain access to some of the better Pokemon and berries, you should focus on obtaining as many Dream Points as possible. The most efficient way of doing this is simply to play as many mini-games as possible. When you reach the Tree of Dreams for the first time, do NOT make a wish. Instead, click the button on the top-left of the screen to go back to your house. As long as you have not made a wish for the day, you are allowed to go to the Dream Island as many times as you wish. Every time you reach the Dream Tree, repeat this process. Play every single mini-game as it comes up, but do note that after you have befriended a certain amount of Pokemon, they will not show up anymore and the Dream Island will be empty. Another method of racking up Dream Points is to water berries for others. This is not as easy as it seems! Since the majority of the people you see are just starting out at the time of writing the FAQ, they will likely have very few berries planted, and it is even less likely to find someone who has soil that actually needs watering. Your best bet is to seek out the Japanese players. Most of them have been playing for quite a while now, so you will often see four rows of land in their gardens, with plenty of room for berries - hopefully ones that need some water. You can water up to 20 times per day, making a total of 200 points possible from using this method. Usually you will not have enough time to accomplish this in addition to doing all the mini-games though. But if you ever get bored of playing the same four mini-games over and over again, this is an alternative. ----- While planting your own berries, note that different types of berries will take a different amount of time to grow. The most common berries, such as the Oran, Pecha, and Cheri berries, will usually grow and be ripe for picking in a day. Other berries, such as the super-effective type berries, may take as long as three to five days to grow.
