Abbreviated Story Mode Guide =============================== This is a bare, efficient guide to story mode. It starts with a chapter-by- chapter objective list, then provides checklists for exploring and unlockables. Notation: @ means required, + means note or optional ======== 1.0 Tips ======== -Save early, save often. You'll usually have to restart from your last save if you lose an important duel. You aren't forced into many duels, so run away and save at a nearby save point if there's an important duel about to start. -The fortune tellers in the shop tell you where to go next. This can be useful if you get lost, which you shouldn't if you're using this guide. When you start a New Game for the first time, you choose your name, country, gender, and character's appearance. Name, country, and gender cannot be changed. Appearance can be changed, although face can't be changed until beating story mode and the change is random. Hair style and color can be changed from the Options menu. Additionally, if you want to save yourself a lot of trouble, go into the "Options" menu, select "Duel Settings" at the bottom, and change "Display Card Details" to "OFF". I can only describe how annoying this feature is: it interrupts the duel and requires you to press A every single time your opponent plays a card. "Do you want to finish checking cards?" Yes, please. ===================== 1.1 Basic Walkthrough ===================== This is a procedural list of what's required to complete Story Mode. The AI isn't particularly difficult, but you may have to play around until you find something that works (or until you get lucky). I was able to complete story mode using just the starting cards and the cards from four structure decks: Zombie World, The Dark Emperor, Spellcaster's Judgment, and Zombie Madness. This section doesn't list the items you could potentially find during story mode. See the Unlockables Section 2.1.b of this guide if you're curious. Note that many of these items can't be found until you've beaten the game. =============== 1.1.a Chapter 1 =============== Chapter 1: Awakening - Arcadia Movement +I recommend going into the "Options" menu and turning OFF "Display Card Details" via "Duel Settings". You won't get those annoying pop-ups this way. @Duel Okita. @Talk to Liquid to warp to New Domino City. @Walk up to the Fortune Cup's front gate and talk to the guard to learn that you can't enter. @Talk to Liquid and Okita to initiate a block puzzle. @Go to the waiting room inside the Fortune Cup building. @Duel Tashiro. It doesn't matter whether you win or lose. @Exit and go west to the training facility. Talk to Check and Nino in the center. Win with three different structure decks and solve three puzzles. +Pack unlocked: Structure decks (cycles through the ones you've won with; changes after every 10 duels). These are guaranteed to give you many good cards, so be sure to buy them regularly. I recommend winning with these four decks: Zombie Madness, Spellcaster's Judgment, The Dark Emperor, and Zombie World. They give the best variety of cards for building a good budget deck later in the game. @Return to your room. Duel Akiza. It doesn't matter whether you win or lose. @Go south and enter New Domino City. Head east and talk to Kawasaki to practice riding the Duel Runner. Clear the race. =============== 1.1.b Chapter 2 =============== Chapter 2: Blast from the Past - Old Memories, a Team's Bond @Change into the security uniform from the options menu. Go into the river and grab staff 7. 6) Shrink the last moss and continue east. +Note: If you want to get that treasure chest, you have to head back from Regulus's spot and do a different puzzle. You can't get it until you come back to the Spirit World later. It's only a Divine Wrath, by the way. @Duel Regulus. =============== 1.1.d Chapter 4 =============== Chapter 4: The Journey - An Old Encounter, the Escape, and a New Menace @Push the southeast statue (examine it repeatedly) to distract Liquid. @Head west. Push them onto the lifts and use the switches to bring them up. Those last two treasures are a chore to get. Without crossing to the north section, bring two blocks from the south section to the west and make a two- block bridge between the north and south halves. You can now push all the blocks in the north section up the lift and across the bridge to the south, then down the west lift and into the northwest corner to make a five-block bridge. If you do this correctly, the only block that you don't use in the two bridges will be a block stuck along the southeast wall. ===B.A.D. You'll know you've gotten all the parts of a certain type once a red dragon head appears to the left of its bar on the customization screen. -Races are accessed from the computer in the Duel Runner shops. -Rank is based on time. -The S-Rank times are 30 seconds under the target time. -A common mistake is to put more parts on the Duel Runner than it can handle. An overloaded cart drives slowly and handles poorly. If the stat pentagon turns red, take parts off until it turns blue. ================ 2.2.a Race Times ================ This customization worked for S-Ranking all the races. It's convenient because it focuses on acceleration, so crashes have less impact on your time. ===My Duel Runner=== Frame: Gamma Frame III Engine: DWE-4000 CPU: KPC-900 F Parts: None S Parts: Feather IV R Parts: None I Parts: Accelerator IV ===Time Attack=== 1) Highway Very Hard S-Rank Time: 50" 2) Old Highway Very Hard S-Rank Time: 50" Strategy: Fall in the second hole. It's better than getting hit. 4) Geoglyphs Very Hard S-Rank Time: 40" Strategy: Hug the inner walls to dodge the hazards. Dodge Ccapac Apu's hands by zigzagging left and right with good timing (turn when they jump up). 5) Goodwin Mansion Very Hard S-Rank Time: 1'20" ===Battle=== -S-Rank times are three times the Time Attack S-Rank times. -Use whatever part setup worked in the Time Attack track. ===================================== 2.2.b Race-Exclusive Turbo Duel Cards ===================================== These cards are only found on Duel Runner tracks. If you don't get the specified card, you'll get a random card from one of the Acceleration packs. From my experience, using the DWE-CG engine greatly increases the incidence of the Ultra Rare race-exclusive cards. Defeat Princess Pikeru through Izanami three times each to get World Championship Edition 1. For World Championship Editions 5-10, you're going to have to unlock the regular duelists and tag teams listed below. It takes a while, but you should be able to unlock 41 single duel opponents and 24 tag teams without much trouble. From there, you can farm DP to get 90% card completion and unlock Recipe Duel Mode. The hardest duelist requirements are made easier by unlocking Recipe Duel Mode and making the opponent use a "punching bag" deck with only unplayable high-level monsters. By the time I finished unlocking all the duelists (save the 50-hour and 100- hour mark duelists), I had played 43 hours and 498 duels. I played those duels with an insta-win code on, so to adjust for actual play I'll assume each duel takes an additional 5 minutes, for a grand total of 85 hours. Add in time spent farming DP, building decks, and actually playing and you'll easily pass the 100 hour mark. For DP, I was scoring somewhere on the order of 500-700 DP for every duel. This means that some 300,000 DP is amassed just from unlocking stuff. Unfortunately, that isn't nearly enough to get one copy of every card from buying packs. Here are my estimates of what it costs to get a single copy of every card from every pack. ---100% Completion DP Requirement Calculation When you buy a whole set of 50 packs you get 5 Ultra Rares, 10 Super Rares, 35 Rares, and 200 Commons. Same numbers every time. If you only buy packs in sets of 50 until you get all the cards in the set, my math shows that it will cost you an expected value of 1.17 million DP for all the packs. In comparison, if you just bought the All at Random pack you would pay around 2.6 million DP (348 boxes) to get one copy of all the cards. For three copies of each card, you'd have to buy around 2.33 million DP of individual boxes, or 4.37 million DP (583 boxes) of All at Random. To obtain an additional 2 million DP, you're going to have to farm. Duel Runner races and normal CPU duels give roughly 600 DP a minute (takes 55-60 hours to get 2 million DP). Since the rating cap is only 5000 in this game, DP ghosts are only slightly better than racing. Pity. Conclusion: If you want all the cards quickly, use an Action Replay. Sure, the suggestion goes against the spirit of this guide, but it's worth 60 hours of your life. The next fastest DP method is to pick up DP in races for around 60 hours (around 20 hours if you have the Wi-Fi download KPC-DG engine). ===================== 2.3.a Single Duelists ===================== Tier 1 is available from the start.
