VERSION HISTORY ****************** 04/09/2013: v0.1, contains a very little part of the walkthrough, with the most important information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. MENU TUTORIAL **************** -Abilities -Equipment -Items -Event Items -Relics -Map Abilities -Threads of Fate -Formation -Options -Save *"Abilities" allows you to change the order of your weapons, armor, or abilities for Espers. You can use L and R to switch between characters and left and right on the directional pad to switch between "Ability" and "Equip". In the left side of the bottom screen, you can see your character's, name, class and stats. There are 5 stats: HP, STR, SPRT, AGL, and DEF. *"Equipment" allows you to equip your characters with pieces of equipment, weapons, magic tomes and items such as Elixirs or recovery items you can use during battles. Please note that Espers and Humans cannot wear two of the same equipment type, thus they cannot have two helmets or two pairs of gloves. Mecha, however, can do that and wear, for example, two body armors. Monsters cannot equip anything. You can use L and R to switch between characters, and left and right on the directional pad to switch between "Equip" and "Ability". In the left side of the bottom screen, you can see your character's, name, class and stats. There are 5 stats: HP, STR, SPRT, AGL, and DEF. Some equipment can raise your stats. In the upper screen, you can see your weapons' area of effect(range) and their multipliers. Weapons with higher multipliers are stronger. *"Items" allows you to view the various items, weapons, and pieces of armor you collected on your journey. You can trash items you don't need by using that little dustbin icon at the end of the list, and sort items by using the X button. *"Event Items" allows you to view items related to events that you obtained. You need them in order to complete them. You cannot trash them. *"Relics" allows you to view the relics you obtained so far. You can select a character and equip them with the relics that you want. *"Map Abilities" allows you to select a map ability to use by pressing the A button. You obtain new map abilities as you progress through the game and obtain certain relics. Map abilities with an arrow icon next to them don't need to be equipped and work all the time. You can also change the order of the map abilities and put the ones you use the most upper in the list. *"Threads of Fate" allows you to check the threads of fate you brought from Lachelis and change their order by selecting one and moving it with up or down. The threads of fate that are upper in the list will be used more often. You can also trash the ones you don't need by using the dustbin icon. *"Formation" allows you to change the position of your party members during battles. The ones further to the right will get targeted by enemies more often than the rest, so put your stronger members first. The number one character will also be the one that you'll see walking on your screen. *"Options" contains both Player Notes and Configuration. Player Notes split into four categories. *Maint Event lets you read about what happened so far in the game. *Sub-Event lets you read notes of the sub-events you have done in the game. They are pretty much sidequests. *Memo lets you check memos concerning various persons and items. *Meat Dictionary lets you check the stats and abilities of the monsters you transformed into. There is a total of 36 monster families. In the Configuration menu, you can see 9 options: 1) Menu Color: As its name implies, you can use it to change the color of the menu. There are 8 colors you can choose. 2) Model Line: You can turn it on or off. It depends on whether you like that line on the characters'models. 3) Message Speed: With this, you can choose to display messages either slowly, moderately, or fast. 4) Sound Type: The two options are Stereo and Headphones. 5) Cursor Type: You can choose to make the game remember the cursor position or not. 6) HP Bar Type: Turning it on will make the HP bar show up during battles, while turning it off will make it not show up. 7) Compass Type: Choose to show the compass in the field or not. 8) Key Configuration: You can change your key config using this option. The defaults are, in order, A, B, X, and Y. 9) Default: This will give you back the default configuration. *"Save" is the last one. It will save your progression. You can save anywhere, but beware, there are some points of no return, but hopefully, the game warns you about them before you save. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. MAIN INTERFACE ***************** On the top screen, you can see your character navigating through areas. The first character in the party formation will be the one walking. In the bottom right corner, you can see a compass. A title showing the name of the locations will show up in the lower part of the screen. Using the A button, you can speak to NPCs, open treasure chests and the like. Using L and R, you can rotate the camera. You cannot rotate it in towns, only in dungeons. You may also notice a small panel saying "(Y) Ability" in the top right corner. This means you can use a map ability by pressing the Y button. The bottom screen displays a map of your current location. You are that small arrow hint on the map. On the left, you can see an icon with a strange shape. Clicking on it will display your characters' icons, names, HP bars, and your team title. Clicking on them will hide everything again. In the lower part of the screen, you can see: your money, the amount of MP you have, and how many relics you collected so far(in order from left to right). Going near an NPC will also reveal a "(...) Talk" icon in the bottom left corner. The icon in the bottom right corner will make the menu show up when you click on it. While the menu is displayed, you can see an icon saying "START" with a bubble next to it. By clicking on it or using the START button, you can speak to fifth party members. Clicking on "B" will remove the menu screen, like the icon in the bottom right corner says. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. BATTLE INTERFACE ******************* During battles, you can choose to attack with a weapon, magic tome, or an ability(if you're an Esper). Depending on your attack's range, you will hit either one enemy, an enemy group, or all enemies on the screen. You can change your target using the directional pad. Even if there are more than three monsters in an enemy group, you can only see three, by the way. You can also heal your comrades using an Esper's Cure, Heal, or items you have equipped. Using left or right while viewing the command list will reveal two more commands; "Run away" and "Do nothing". You can only run away from regular battles. Even if it's only one character running away, the whole party will flee from the battle. By selecting "Do nothing", well, you do nothing. It's quite useful actually! Once you have input all of your battle commands, click "Commence Battle" in the lower part of the bottom screen or just hit the A button. Or if you want to change your actions, hit B or use the small icon in the bottom right corner of the lower screen. Now you can see the battle turn order. The one first on the list will act first. The second one will act right after, and so on. When an enemy or party member performs their move, they will be removed from the list. If you don't want to see that long list, hit the Y button while it's being displayed. While moves are being performed, you can see an icon saying "F. Forward" in the bottom left corner of the lower screen. Clicking on it or using the B button will remove all animations. Use it if you want to save some time! "HELP" gives you a description of the weapon or item you selected in the command list. It also tells you the type of weapons. In the left side of the bottom screen, you can see your characters' HP bars and icons. If your character gets poisoned, falls asleep, or gets inflicted by any other status, a hint will be displayed on their icon(green bubbles for poison, purple skull for curse...) By hitting the X button or clicking on the icon in the bottom right corner, you can choose in which order your characters will act that turn, regardless of agility. This way, even a slow character with low agility can act before a character with high agility. A pretty neat feature. However, since you cannot control fifth party members' turn order, they will always go last. After a battle ends, yor characters may gain stats depending on your actions during the battle. This will be displayed in the lower part of the top screen, with a message saying "X stat increased!". Sometimes, you can get more than just one stat-up. It's possible that you will raise two or even three stats for the same character after a battle. Please, note that only Humans and Espers can gain stats. You also get an amount of Kero for winning battles. Kero is the currency of the game. You may also get an item dropped by a defeated foe. Enemies also drop "meat" which can be eaten by your monster to transform into another type of monster. Choose "Don't Eat it" if you want to keep your monster the way it is. If you choose "Eat it", you can press SELECT or click on the icon in the lower part of the bottom screen to see what you will become. The panel will ONLY appear if you have already transformed into that monster. Otherwise, you will have to eat the meat to find out what you will become. If you don't have a monster on your team, you will leave the meat behind automatically. After each battle, a Muse will give an evaluation and shower you with MP. We will talk about the Muse in detail in another part of the walkthrough. 5. INFORMATION ************** This section contains spoilers. 5.1. ESPER ABILITIES&CLASSES **************************** 1) Special abilities: --------------------- Espers can have up to 4 special abilities they can use. The last one on the list will be forgotten and replaced by another one constantly. Espers can replenish these abilities by sleeping, either at an inn or by using a Cottage, or having an Elixir. They learn these abilities by defeating enemies of the corresponding DS level. For an Esper to learn, for example, Thunder, which is a DS2 ability, they must defeat enemies of World 2. Here is a list of Esper abilities and their DS levels. There is a total of 61 abilities. DS 1: OPoison, Fire, Blizzard, Sleep, Cure DS 2: OPara, OEarthquake, Thunder, Electroshock, Poison Counter DS 3: OFlame, XFlame, Cloud, Paralysis Glare, Acid Rain, Paralyze Counter, Enfeeble DS 4: OCold, XCold, Flame, Cold Wave, Burn Counter, Flash Eye, Steal DS 5: OElec, Elec, Lightning, Poison Fog, Stone Counter, Temptation, Hypnosis, Shadow Selves DS 6: OStone, Explode, Plunder, Evil Eye, Break Glare, Heal DS 7: OPara/Poison, Death, Break, Treatment, Destruction Beam, Stare DS 8: OWeapon, ODamage, Teleport, Drain Touch, Piercing Ray, Psycho Mirror, Esuna DS 9: OChange, Psycho Blast, Temptation Song, Riddle, Regeneration DS 10: OAll, Flare, X-Zone, Curse Song, Full Cure Espers have a 5% base chance of learning an ability. You get a bonus of 7% per DS level, and the DS level is reduced for every 70 HP your Esper has. For example, you are fighting DS 6 enemies. The DS bonus becomes 7 x 6 = 42%. Let's say your Esper has 350 HP. This means that the DS level will be reduced by 350 / 70 = 5, meaning that the DS level is now 6 - 5 = 1. The bonus will be reduced to 7%. So your Esper has a 12% chance of learning a new ability by fighting DS 6 enemies with 350 HP. You have better chances of learning special abilities by fighting enemies with a high DS level, like bosses. Note that if your Esper has high HP, they are less likely to learn abilities. 2) Esper classes: ----------------- Espers have the ability to change their "class". There are 8 classes in total: Normal, Attack, Defense, Support, Attack/Defense, Attack/Support, Defense/Support, and all arounder. The class you begin with is normal. Each class gives Espers "adjustments" which make their hit rate, damage output, or healing better. You cannot check which class your Esper currently is, but when your Esper's class changes, you will get a message at the end of the battle, saying "Esper class changed to X!" Offense class adjustments: The damage dealt by magic attacks, spells, and draining attacks are increased by a percentage. Support class adjustments: The accuracy of status-inflicing moves such as Sleep is increased by a percentage, and buff/debuff moves have a greater effect, meaning that, for example, Electroshock will lower more agility to foes, and Shadow Selves will increase your agility more. Defense class adjustements: Healing from magic healing, percentage healing, and fixed healing is increased by a percentage. This means that an Esper with the defense class will heal more with Cure, and recover more HP from Regeneration and potions. Here are the various bonuses earned by Espers of each class: Normal - no adjustment Attack - 15% offense adjustment Defense - 30% defense adjustment Support - 10 support adjustment Attack/Defense - 10% offense adjustment and 20% defense adjustment Attack/Support - 10% offense adjustment and 8% support adjustment Defense/Support - 20% defense adjustment and 8% support adjustment All rounder - 5% offense adjustment, 5% support adjustment, and 10% defense adjustment All abilities and weapons are classified under a specific category: offense, defense, and support. In order to become a certain class, you must gain "proficiency" by performing moves corresponding to that class. Proficiency increases by one when performing a move that corresponds that class. So, for example, an Esper using a shield or casting Cure will gain one proficiency point towards the defense class. At that time, if three turns pass without performing a corresponding move, all the other proficiencies will decrease. Let's say your Esper uses a Blizzard spell first turn. Attack class proficiency goes up by one point. Then they use a Sleep spell second turn. Support class proficiency goes up by one point. Then they use a Fire Spell third turn. Attack class proficiency goes up by one point. Then they use Blizzard fourth turn. Attack class proficiency goes up by one point. Then they use Sleep fifth turn. Support class proficiency goes up by one point and defense class proficiency goes down by one point because you didn't perform a move that would make it go up during the last three turns(the three turns I'm talking about are the ones with sleep, fire and the second blizzard). Note that if you do nothing or make a move that doesn't raise any proficiency, nothing happens to your points. Here are the proficiency stats required for each class: Normal - All class proficiencies have less than 50 points Attack - Attack proficiency above 50 and at least 15 points above all other proficiencies. Defense - Defense proficiency above 50 points and at least 15 points above all other proficiencies. Support - Support proficiency above 50 points and at least 15 points above all other proficiencies. Attack/Defense - Attack and defense proficiencies above 50 and both at least 15 above support. Attack/Support - Attack and support proficiencies above 50 and both at least 15 above defense. Defense/Support - Support and defense proficiencies above 50 and both at least 15 above offense. All rounder - All proficiencies above 50 and within 30 of each other. Note that since you start as a NORMAL class Esper, your class proficiencies have all LESS THAN 50 points, meaning that you have less than 50 points in attack, defense, and support proficiency. So if you want to become an attack class, use spells like Thunder or Flame repeatedly, attack with a Psycho Dagger or any other offense. If you want to become a defense class, use healing spells, defend with a Shield, or use items like potions. If you want to become an attack/defense class, do both attacking and defending often and completely neglect support moves like Sleep. The in-game tutorial also suggests that becoming a certain class makes it easier to learn abilities corresponding that class. So if you become an attack class Esper, you'll get higher chances of learning offensive abilities such as Destruction Beam or Flare, and if you become a defense class Esper, you're more likely to learn Regeneration or Heal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2. THE MUSES: THEIR LOCATION, GIFTS, EVALUATION, AND ATTACKS ************************************************************** Locations: ---------- Calliope: Examine the "!" east of the Outset Town. If you don't help Calliope, none of the other Muses will show up. Polynia: Keep examining the "!"s in the Ruins of the Ancient Gods, until Polynia decides to backtrack to search for Mel. When you finish the events in the Ruins of the Ancient Gods, come back to the first room and check the "!" west of the entrance. Eutere: Examine the "!" in a corner of the Desert Town. Bring the train of thought outside town to Eutere. Then bring the Storage Device in the southeast part of the sandstorm-less field. The Maintenance Kit is in the southeast part of the southern area. The Reset Unit is near the center of the southern field. They are all marked with a red "!". Melmene: When you reach the prison cells in Ashura's Tower, check the cell with a little girl inside it. Keep going until you reach the floor with multiple rooms. An Oni is in one of them, beat it and you will obtain the jail key. Go back to Melmene's cell and free her. Thalia: Examine the "!" in the eastern part of the Giants' Town. Thalia will turn you into a butterfly because she was hit with a mind-control spell. Go to the pub and grab some sweets from the pub owner, then give them to the fairy in the northeastern part of the Giants' town. She will give you a bottle. Go to the pond in town, there will be a "!". Fill the bottle with water, then give the Giants' Drops to the little flower in the western part of town. She will give you Uncurse Honey. Now go back to where you were changed into a butterfly and sprinkle Thalia with the honey. She will be freed. Repsira: After the events in Kai's body, there will be a "!" nearby Isis Temple. Beat the two Daddy Longlegs, and when you face Repsira, don't do anything, or else the battle will never end. She will be pleased, and leave. Erato: Hear her tune in the pubs of Outset Town, Desert Town, Giants' Town, and Lin's Town. Afterwards, she will leave. Leio: Leio is in the tool shop of Port Town. You must buy any item and leave the shop three times: buy something, leave, buy something, leave buy something, leave, then return to the shopkeeper. She will tell you that Leio has left because she made enough savings for her parents' gift. Now go underwater. Leio will be somewhere south of volcano's entrance. The event is marked by a "!". Rescue her from the monsters who attack her, and she will thank you then leave. Urania: Meeting Urania won't be possible until you have met all the other Muses and sent them to their gardens. When you have done so, go to the Muses' Gardens and Calliope will come tell you that Urania hasn't returned yet. The other Muses will give you clues about Urania's whereabouts. Anyway, go outside either the Desert Town, Giants' Town, or North Town, and chain a battle. Urania will show up at this point and cast Fire. You must use a Thread of Fate at least once during your chained battle to talk to Urania right after. The gifts: ---------- Most of their gifts are obtained from excavation spots. Note that if a Muse didn't return to her garden, the excavation site with her present won't appear. For example, if Thalia did not go back to the Muses' world, you won't find the Clematis Hair Ornament in the South Forest. For each of these gifts, the Muses will give you 500 MP. They will start helping you in battles after you've given them 2 gifts that they appreciate(obtaining 1000 MP). You receive 1 MP for gifts they don't like. The gifts below also "unlock" a new move each. For example, Erato won't start using Nocturne of Ruin until you give her the Gold Obidome. Until then, she will use her weaker Etude of Shock and Fugue of Destruction. Calliope: Cloud Fragment, Windflower Bouquet, Spring Breeze Pendant - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Polynia: Strawberry Pin Badge, Star Stand, Star Lollipop - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Eutere: Traffic Pass, Pure Oil, Glass Gear- Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Melmene: Glass Moon Rabbit, Moon Brooch, Peppermint Tea Leaf - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Thalia: Clematis Hair Ornament, Yggdrasil Leaf, Moonlight Nectar - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Repsira: Crown of Thorns, Silver Bell Choker, Black Rose Preserves - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Erato: Scarlet Kanzashi, Camellia Flower Fan, Gold Obidome - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Leio: Seashell Necklace, Foam Tiara, Coral Mermaid - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. Urania: Silvery Wings Spoon, Cradle of Life, Formula of Light - Moonlit/Starlit Pendant, Diamond/Spade/Heart/Clover Crystals. NOTE: Eutere's Glass Gear can only be obtained from an event at the Guardians' Town in World 5. You need a negative team title. Discovering the Guardians' hideout will "destroy" the event, so it has to be done before. Erato's Scarlet Kanzashi is obtained from an event in Outset Town, and ONLY when you have Kai in your party. You also need a negative team title for this one. There are also some other gifts that the Muses appreciate a bit. They will give you either 100 or 200 MP for these. Rarer and pricier items will net you 200 MP, while weapons and armor that are cheaper will usually net you 100 MP. Anything that can be purchased for 17000 Kero or less will usually not please the Muses, and net you 1 MP, except for the Dragon Armor, Giant Armor, Vulcan Gun, and Battle Exosuit which cost more than 17000 Kero but aren't appreciated by them. 200 MP Valkyrie Sword, Kijinto, Dragon Scale Armor, Dragon Scale Gauntlets, M1934, Power Exosuit, Dragon Spear Longinus,Laevateinn, Triangle Kick, Leopard XG, Venus' Fan, Muramasa, Sun Blade, Yoshiyuki, Yoichi's Bow, Dragon Sword, Nuclear Bomb, Twinkle Star, Missing Moon, Gungnir, Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, Full Cure Tome, Seven-Pronged Sword, Excalibur, Mirror Shield, Pandemonium, Shogun Fan, Mjollnir, Hell Wheel, Particle Gun, Father's Whip, Dragon Scale Helmet, Lost Armor, Wave Cannon, Blackbird, Light Magic Staff, Glass Sword, Kaleidosaber, Body Source, Strength Source, Magic Source, Agility Source, Defense Source, Flash Fist, LAD, Photon, Princess Saber, Dragon Scale Boots, Espada del Fin, >32000 Gold Nuggets. 100 MP Raising Cane, Air Bash, Flare Tome, Super Magic Circuit, Magic Power Circuit, Sorcery Circuit, Silencer, LED, Gale Sickle, Dragon Shield, Genji Gloves, Defender, Cat's Claw, Self-Repair, Spear, Orichalcum Spear, Areadbhar, Vajra, Guan Yu's Armor, Psycho Gun, Coral Sword, Beam Rifle, Leopard 2, Fairy Staff, Arondite, Bastard Sword, Bardiche, Blood Sword, Stardust Staff, Death Sickle, Kongming's Shoes, Shining Sand Armor, Revenge Blade, Dragon Helm, Barrier Jacket, Death Sword, Mountain Storm, Goddess' Wings, Ogre Killer, Pheonix Staff, Missiles, Staff of Wizardry, Silver Gauntlets, Staff of Sorcery, Orichalcum Bow, Circlet, Drill Spinner, Rune Axe, Explosive Photons, Ninto, Abacus of Evil, Scarlet Robe, 8000-16000 Gold Nuggets. Evaluation: ----------- After a Muse returned to her garden, she will starting giving evaluations at the end of each battle. After evaluating you, they will reward you with MP for adopting a "battle style". Each Muse prefers a certain battle style, and will give you more MP if you keep performing the moves they like. 50 MP is the maximum amount you can obtain in one battle. Calliope *Calliope gives you more MP for finishing battles quickly(in one round). *Using Death and Break will earn you little MP. *You get a better evaluation for doing preemptive strikes. Getting ambushed by enemies will hurt your evaluation. *The more enemies you beat quickly, the more MP you get. For example, beating 4 enemies will earn you more MP than beating one enemy quickly. Polynia *Polynia gives MP for dealing much more damage than an enemy could take. In other words, serious overkill. *It is possible to easily earn 50 MP or close from Polynia by dealing damage about 20 times your enemy's HP. For example, causing 700 damage to a Goblin, which has only 35 HP, can net you 50 MP with ease. *Overkilling higher level enemies is more likely to get you 50 MP from her. Eutere *Eutere showers you with MP for not making the same moves with your party members. *She gives you more MP for doing different actions with your characters. For example, defending with a shield, healing, attacking with different spells, lowering your enemies' stats with debuff moves... *For these reasons, it is very likely that you will get 50 MP or close from Eutere after long battles with bosses, in which you perform a lot of actions. Melmene *Melmene gives you MP for defending against enemy attacks. *Defending with a shield a total of 14 times will get you 50 MP. Having all of your characters using a shield for 4 turns will do the trick. Thalia *Thalia gives you MP for hitting enemies' weaknesses, and using debuff moves and status-inflicting moves. *Hitting 25 monsters' weakness in a battle is enough to get 50 MP from her. This can probably only be done by chaining battles in later parts of the game. *Using different status-inflicting attacks on the enemy several times will also net you high amounts of MP. Repsira *Repsira gives you MP for taking physical hits and winning with fallen or weakened allies. *She gives you 14 MP for every fallen ally. *She will stop evaluating you for taking physical strikes after 7 hits. Erato *Erato gives you MP for using magic attacks. *Using a total of 11 magic attacks during a battle will get you 50 MP. Leio *Leio gives you MP for healing and using recovery items. *Using Gold Needles, Eye Drops, Potions, High Potions, Crosses, or Cure/Heals spells 8 times during a battle will net you 50 MP. Note that you don't have to be stoned or blind to use the status curing items since they heal HP as well. *Leio's MP pattern is fixed: 10/21/25/27/32/39/48/50. Urania *Urania gives you MP for using Threads of Fate. The more you use, the more MP you get. *Chaining about 8 attacks is enough to get 50 MP. The duration and hit rate of status attacks goes up by 20%. Urania: Holy: FIXED damage attack of 400-600. All enemies on the screen receive instant death unless they have ODeath. Sacred: FIXED damage attack of 400-800. All enemies on the screen receive instant death unless they have ODeath. Breath of God: FIXED damage attack of 400-1000. All enemies on the screen receive instant death unless they have ODeath. Lost Ark: FIXED damage attack of 400-1200. All enemies on the screen receive instant death unless they have ODeath. FINAL NOTE: It is possible to recruit Urania as a fifth party member by talking to her and choosing "Be a partner". She will, however, leave when another party member must join your party(i.e: Dad). Her abilities and stats improve as you obtain more and more MP from her(gifts, evaluations...). The changes only happen when she is not in the party. Her stats randomly change as she joins and leaves you, so some may go up and some may go down. She starts with 25ish stats and her maximum are 70ish. Sometimes, when battles start, she will be asleep. This illustrates the fact that she is a toddler. ***************************************************************************** * 350 HP * 400 HP * 450 HP * 500 HP * 550 HP * 600 HP * * * * * * * * * Holy * Holy * Sacred * Sacred * Breath of God * Breath of God * * * * * * * * * Fire * Fire * Fire * Fire * Fire * Fire * * * * * * * * * Blizzard * Blizzard * Blizzard * Blizzard * Blizzard * Blizzard * * * * * * * * * Thunder * Thunder * Thunder * Thunder * Thunder * Thunder * * * * * * * * * Clouda * Clouda * Cure * Cure * Cure * Cure * * * * * * * * * Cure * Cure * Heal * Heal * Heal * Heal * * * * * * * * * Esuna * Esuna * Esuna * Esuna * Esuna * Esuna * * * * * * * * * Sleep * Death * Death * Break * X-Zone * Psycho Blast * ***************************************************************************** * 700 HP * 800 HP * * * * * Lost Ark * Lost Ark * * * * * Fire * Fire * * * * * Blizzard * Blizzard * * * * * Thunder * Thunder * * * * * Heal * Heal * * * * * Esuna * Full Cure* * * * * Psy.Blast* Psy.Blast* * * * * Flare * Flare * *********************** 5.3. ARENA OF THE DEAD ********************** The Arena of the Dead is a place where the player can fight stronger versions of bosses they have defeated during the main storyline. It is accessible as soon as you reach the Giants' Town, by talking to the devil super slime in the western part of town. Winning each battle will reward the player with a prize depending on their team title; during these battles, the team name is set to Childhood Friends(default), and the player must use threads of fates to acquire a new one. Based on this, the devil super slime will give a specific reward. For example, if you want the Giant's Gloves from the fight with Ashura, use only Love and Friend threads of fate. One of each is enough. However, note that only the last two types of threads used count, so if you used one one Friend, one Love, then one Ally, you would get the Silencer, and not the gloves, because the last two you used were Love + Ally. By the way, you may think some combinations are missing, but they aren't, because some give the same rewards. For example, Friend + Hate and Love + Hate both give Vajra from Ashura. And please don't forget to put the threads of fate you need in the two first two slots, in the Threads of Fate menu. That way, they'll show up more often and you can use them to get the reward you want. So for example, if you want the Bardiche off Ashura, put love and strife threads first. It is also the only multiplayer aspect of the game. The player can team up with up to three other persons during these fights, each controlling her own character. But it is possible for 2 or 3 players to play as well, each contributing with a character or two. This is done by performing DS Wireless communication after choosing a soul to fight and selecting 2nd, 3rd, or 4th party members and ignoring the first slot. These souls will carry to New Game+, so they will all be available in the arena as soon as you reach the Giants' Town. AREA OPACA OF SOULS ************************ The Area Opaca of Souls is another new coliseum, in which you pass "trials", each named "Seekers of X". In these trials you can do up to 5 fights without a rest. The final fights put you up to powered-up versions of the storyline gods, except for the first two. At the end of each trial, you are rewarded with a random item out of 8 or 9. In order to unlock the Area Opaca of Souls, you must complete the Nasty Dungeon by telling the fairy at the end of the dungeon that it was indeed a nasty place. She will then inform you that a guy dressed in black is waiting for you outside: a devil super slime. He will test you a last time by having you fight high-level enemies. Upon winning, he will inform you that you can talk to the other devil super slime to go to the Area Opaca of Souls. You can now go to the Giants' Town or the Muses' Garden, talk to him, and choose "Soul's Dark Regions". Note that the trials you beat will carry to New Game+, so if you have unlocked all of them, they will be all available to you in New Game+. Fifth party members are allowed here, unlike the Arena of the Dead. WEAPONS ************ There are ten weapon types in the game: Longswords, Greatswords, Katanas, Special Blades, Taijutsu, Bows, Axes, Strike weapons, Guns, and Spears. Strike weapons include Whips, Fans, and other throwable weapons. These weapon types calculate damage using different stats. For instance, Longswords are strength-based weapons, while Special Blades use agility to calculate damage. Note that Whips are STR weapons but actually raise AGL. Equipping weapons is the only way for Mecha to gain offensive stats. Each weapon raises their HP and STR or AGL by a different value. Using Magic Circuits is their only way to obtain a SPRT stat. 6. THE WALKTHROUGH
******************
Alright, now choose "New Game"!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6.1. INTRODUCTION
*****************
I will quote the game's introduction to the game:
"Relics...
The inheritance of the ancient Gods They who created the Worlds...
Used as a symbol to showcase the Gods' Power...
Countless Souls have been lost in the wars fought to claim them...
Some obtained what they sought, while others died in vain...
Now...
Another saga is about to begin"
So yeah, people fought to obtain these relics left behind by the gods
who created the worlds. It seems that some have succeeded in obtaining
them! Now you will be asked to choose your main character. There are
four races in the game: Human(male and female), Esper(male and female),
Mecha, and Monster. There are four model types and color types for
everyone, except Monsters. If you pick a Monster, you must choose either
a Familiar, Slime, or Mini Dragon.
You may be wondering which one you should pick. So let's talk about what
each of the four classes can do, especially since you will get to pick
your other party members pretty soon.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.2. THE FOUR CLASSES
*********************
1) Humans: Humans can gain proficiency with each of the 10 weapon
types available in the game: Longswords, Greatswords, Katanas, Special
Blades, Taijutsu, Bows, Axes, Strike weapons, Guns, and Spears. To get
proficiency, they must use a weapon type 50 times. A message will then
be displayed at the end of the battle, saying that they gained a
proficiency level. There are 10 proficiency levels and each one
increases their damage output and accuracy by 2.5%, except for the ninth
and tenth levels which you get a 5% boost for. This means that Humans
can obtain a bonus of 30% for their damage output and hit rate. Humans
have also a better stat growth rate than Espers: 10% for HP, STR, SPRT,
AGL, and 1% for DEF. The 1% for DEF means that Humans will rarely gain a
stat-up in defense, but it's not a problem at all since you can just
wear armor to raise your defense stat. Humans won't be as good as a
Mecha or Esper in the early parts of the game, but they really shine
later. Please note that Humans cannot get proficiency with weapons such
Psycho Gun, Chainsaw, Grenades ect. as they don't belong in any weapon
type.
2) Espers: When compared to Humans, Espers have lower chances of
raising their stats: 5% for HP, SPRT, AGL, DEF, and 1% for STR. However,
Espers can obtain "special abilities" by defeating enemies. These
abilities have a limited number of use, but can be replenished by
sleeping at an inn or by using a Cottage or an Elixir. An Esper can have
up to 4 special abilities. The last one on their list will constantly
change, so put the abilities that you want to keep in the first three
slots. It is possible for an Esper to learn twice or even thrice the
same ability, so an Esper can end up with 3 Cures, 2 Fires ect. Another
unique trait of Espers is that they can change their "class". There are
8 classes: Normal, Attack, Defense, Support, Attack/Defense,
Attack/Support, Defense/Support, and all arounder. The default class of
Espers is normal. Each class earns an Esper a bonus of some sort. For
more information on Espers abilities and classes, see the "ESPERS
ABILITIES&CLASSES" part.
3) Mecha: Mecha don't gain any stat-ups. Instead, they gain stats
from the weapons and armor they have equipped. This means that if you
want to raise your Mecha's agility, equip him with agility-based
weapons(special blades) such as a Rapier or Saber, and vice versa. Mecha
have a SPRT stat of 0, so magic attacks will hurt them badly. The only
way to raise it is by equipping certain "magic circuits". Mecha also
have the abilityto equip more than one type of equipment, meaning that
they can equip 2 or even 3 body armors, or 2 helmets! When a Mecha
equips a weapon, its availability is cut in half. So, for example, if a
Longsword, which normally has 50 uses, is equipped on a Mecha, it will
only have 25 uses. However, if their availability reaches 0, the weapons
won't break, and you can replenish them by sleeping at an inn or using a
Cottage. Mecha also have another interesting trait: they obtain the same
defense bonus from all pieces of the same equipment set. So if you can
buy a Gold Armor or Gold Gloves, pick the GOLD GLOVES since they're
cheaper and give the same defense bonus as the Gold Armor!
4) Monsters: At the beginning, you get to pick one the three
following monsters: Familiar, Slime, or Mini Dragon. After winning a
battle, it is likely that a monster will drop meat. Eating meat will
change your monster into another type of monster. Your monster can
either become better or worse. You can use SELECT to see which monster
you'll be become, but only if you already transformed into that monster.
A monster can also inherit a skill from another monster, and there are
also "variant" monsters, which are pretty much monsters with higher
stats and better skills than than the normal ones. Note that monsters
cannot have any equipment or weapons. They are limited to the skills
they know. Sleeping at an inn or using a Cottage will replenish the
availability of their attacks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.3. WORLD 1: ISIS' WORLD - Hometown
************************************
Your father will wake you up in the middle of the night to tell you that
he is going away for a while. :( He wants to give you something before
leaving. He will give you a treasure called the "Spirit Mirror". It
detects "hidden treasures", huh. He asks you to keep it safe and take
care of your mom while he's gone. He then jumps off the window. Cool!
You will now see a black screen. The years passed and you grew into an
adult! You can now see your mom in the kitchen. I guess she's preparing
dinner. Shortly after, you will enter the kitchen and tell mom
something: you want to look for Dad! She says that she knew this day
would come. Really?! She will say that you have Dad's adventurous spirit
and recklessness. I don't jump off windows though... She will tell you
that you should get going. Nice! But we have to say goodbye to our
Teacher first.
Now, you will be in a classroom, speaking to your Teacher. He wants to
tell you something: this world was created by ancient gods. But you
already know that anyway. He will then inform you about the Relics,
which are scattered all around the world. So the Spirit Mirror Dad gave
you was a Relic! He will then speak about a legend saying that when all
77 Relics are assembled, they form the statue of a goddess, and that the
Relics have special powers that some people want to use to become new
gods. Wow. Dad was apparently planning to assemble the goddess statue to
prevent the corrupt people from using the Relics. He will also tell you
about the special power that the Spirit Mirror has: when used, it will
tell you how many Relics remain in that world. Shortly after, some
students will come and ask you to take them with you on your journey.
Time to choose your three party members! Choose the three races that you
want and give them their names and colors. After reading the "The Four
Classes" part, you should have an idea of what each of them is capable
of. I would recommand 1 Human, 1 Esper, a Mecha, and a Monster, but you
can pick 2 Espers, 2 Humans, or 2 Monsters in your team, it's completely
up to you. I love the blond female Esper, though! By the way, if you are
to pick a monster, the Mini Dragon is a little better than the others.
After you've done everything and confirmed your characters' names and
colors, Teacher will tell you that there is a cave north of here, and
beyond it, there is another town. We must go there! You now have control
of your character. Exit the classroom, now. Ignore that "!" mark on your
map for now. Head south from the School, and you will see four houses.
They are the houses of you and your three comrades. The southeastern one
is yours. Mom can heal you if you talk to her, but it will only be
useful after you go outside town and fought. The northeastern one is the
house of your second partner. Their parent, the Enoki Mimic, will give
you a potion. Nice. Equip it on your Human or Esper so you can heal your
HP during battles. Remember that if you give it to a Mecha, its
availability will get cut in half: that means you will have 2 potions to
use. Don't even try to take them from your Mecha afterwards, or you will
only have 1 potion left(a potion has 4 uses).
Now, you can leave town. Or try to. As you are leaving through the exit
in the east, Teacher will stop you and tell you that he's coming with
you! Great! He will then warn you that if you make contact with the
enemy shadows outside town, you will have to fight them. He will then
tell you about "chain battles". Chain battles happen when you touch an
enemy shadow and there are other enemies nearby. This will result in a
chain encounter. You will then have to fight more enemies than you would
have. The bit about the camera isn't important; you can rotate it
outside towns with L and R. He will also tell you that your weapons have
a "limit". Indeed, once your weapons' availability reaches 0, the weapon
will be lost. But you know, that doesn't happen with Mecha. They can
sleep at inns to recover their weapons' number of uses, even if it says
0. But beware, if you remove anything from your Mecha while it's at 0,
it will break. Espers can also recover their abilities by sleeping. You
can always open the menu and press START if you wish to speak to Teacher
again. Like you'd do that! Let's get out this town already. I'll miss
the music though.
*Teacher has fairly high stats for this part of the game. He will be
slaughtering the monsters, plus he has Cure in case you get hurt.
---------------------------------------------------
COMMENTS: There are a few things you must know. If an enemy collides
with you from behind, it is possible that they will get a "Surprise
attack", an ambush. The monsters will then get a free turn and attack
before you get to move. If a party member falls, there is no way to
bring them back, so be careful! They will be revived after the fight
with 1 HP. The monsters here don't have any weaknesses. Just hit them
hard with what you've got. An Esper's Flame or Cold Wave will be very
useful. Teacher can pretty much beat any monster with one hit of Fire or
Dissolve and he has Cure if you need it. If you are badly hurt, you can
still make your way back to the Hometown and have Mom heal you. Just
watch out for the Ashigaru. They have high HP but drop Longswords.
Jaguars attacking in groups are dangerous as well. Take them out quickly
with Teacher! Try beating Robbers a few times, they drop Punches, a
taijutsu. Using taijutsu can cause your agility to go up, so put one on
your Esper and Human. Giving one to your Mecha will raise his HP by 9,
and his AGL by 2. By the way, taijutsu get more powerful as you use
them, so a Punch with 30 uses left is more powerful than a Punch with 50
uses left. Also, try to not eat any meat until World 2 so you can obtain
some great monsters.
First, head north from the Hometown, turn right, head south and you
should see a bridge. Now turn left and you should see another bridge.
Cross it and head northeast. There it is! On your way to the North Cave,
your Esper will probably learn Sleep, Fire, Cure, Blizzard, or OPoison.
Beating DS1 enemies(world 1 enemies) will teach your Esper some of these
abilities.
COMMENTS: The same enemies are present here, except for the Toads and
Newts, and they're weak to ice. It's very likely that you will get your
first chain battle here. The tiger-shaped enemies will likely catch you
and force you into one. First head north, then turn right and keep
heading in that direction then turn and head north again. Now, for the
second room, head north and climb the stairs you see. Turn right and
cross the bridge. You should see two treasure chests. Open them for a
Bronze Shield and a Potion. Now go all the way back down, and now head
east. You should see stairs again. Climb them, go left and you should
see the exit to the next room. Go west then north, turn right and climb
down the stairs. Head east then north. Now, turn right and you should
see two treasure chests. They contain a Bow and a Battle Hammer. Now
head northwest. You should see a brown-colored pterosaur. It wants to
take our Spirit Mirror Relic to become a god! It's time for a battle!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rhamphorhynchus 162 HP
STR 10 SPRT 5
AGL 9 DEF 8
Abilities:
~~~~~~~~~~
/// Beak
() OEarthquake
Yeah, easy... Teacher can beat it with one hit of Dissolve or Fire. But
there'd be no challenge in doing that! And you'd get no stat-ups that
way. Have your Esper cast Flame/Cold Wave or Fire/Blizzard if they have
learned it. Or if they have Sleep, they can cast it to shut it down.
Humans should attack with their Longswords or Rapiers. A Mecha can deal
more than 100 points of damage with their Derringer. You can also attack
it with a Bow or Punch for a possible agility stat-up. Monsters should
use their strongest skill; Flame for Mini Dragon, Dissolve for Slime,
Claw for Familiar. Familiar can also use Sleep. The Rhamphorhynchus
might drop meat. It is a DS2 monster, and might teach your Esper a DS2
ability. You get 66 Kero for winning.
Meat eating:
------------
Mini Dragon + Rhamphorhynchus meat = Silver(DS3 Horse-type)
Slime + Rhamphorhynchus meat = Octopus(DS2 Octopus-type)
Familiar + Rhamphorhynchus meat = Enoki Mimic(DS1 Mushroom-type)
It may seem like a good idea to transform into a Silver, but I'd still
recommend keeping your starter monster until World 2.
After the battle, the monster will disapper after exploding. BOOM! You
can now leave the cave. Teacher will now leave the party. Being the
guardian of the Hometown, he must go back to protect it. He will tell
you about his student that you can find in town in case you need help.
He will also ask you to examine the "!" on your way to Outset Town.
Something nice might happen, he says! After saying goodbye, he will go
back. Well, he's actually inside the North Cave, and if you try to go
back, he will stop you.
Now let's head north to reach the Outset Town. But first, go check the
"!" east of town. It looks like some monsters are annoying a young girl.
They won't stop so let's beat them up!
Battle: Fly Man x2
They have 38 HP each. show them what you've got!
You get 72 Kero for winning. After the battle, the girl will thank you
for helping her. Her name is Calliope. She will give you 500 MP. She
will then go to the Muses' world, the world where the Muses live. If we
want to go there, we'll have to find their messenger.
Anyway, head west to enter the Outset Town.
In the Square- Strength Source/Agility Source/Magic Source/Defense Source
As soon as you are there, you'll see... Dad? So is our journey already
finished? Check the second "!" from the right, on your map. Dad's there.
But wait! It's not him, it's an ugly old man dressed like him! He will
tell you that there are Relics in the Ruins of the Ancient Gods, though.
Let's check the first "!" in the pub now. There is a black-haired woman
wearing a red dress, nearby the Jukebox. She plays the Shamisen. Listen
to her tune. Even if you pick "Don't listen", you can still talk to her
again and hear her music. After that's, she'll be off. Now, the inn. Go
to the inn and enter the room with beds. You'll see a green, fat Super
Slime. Talk to him, he's the warehouse manager. When your inventory is
full, give him the items you don't need. His service is free of charge.
If you're low on HP, you can sleep at the inn, but here's a tip: since
you have to play 1 Kero for every 1 HP you lost, have your Esper cast
Cure and fully heal your party. This way, you'll restore your special
abilities and recover from any status ailments for 0 Kero.
Anyway, let's check the "!" by the item shop. If it's not there, enter
the inn or any building and leave it. Keep doing this until it shows up
again, then talk to the fat devil Super Slime. You can sell him items
for 25% of their original price and if you want them again, you'll have
to pay 125% of their price. Items you sell him carry to your New Game+,
so you can give him weapons or armor you want to keep on your New Game+
and buy them from him in your next game. He can only accept 8 items. Now
check the "!" by the weapon shop. It's Teacher's student, a pink slime
lady. She will explain some things for you if you ask her, like the
traits of the races ect.
Talking to the people around here will reveal that Ashura, a god, has
his minions attacking people and causing trouble. Some will also talk
about about the Celestial World which is supported by Sky Pillars.
Anyway, there's nothing left to do in this town. Head all the way
northwest from Outset Town to reach Isis Temple.
RELICS:
Pheonix Eye
More people are complaining about Ashura. Anyway, go talk to the
priestess in the second room. She will heal everyone! When you ask her
about the Relics, she thinks that you are planning on collecting them to
be become a new god. Your third party member will tell her that she is
wrong about that, and that we're just looking for your Dad. Looks like
she knows him. He came one day to the temple and asked her about the
Relics. As you try to leave, she stops you and tells you about the
Relics in the Ruins of the Ancient Gods. She will give you the Pheonix
Eye Relic so you can see the entrance to the ruins. By the way, talk to
Kai anytime and she'll heal you.
Now head west from Isis Temple to reach rocky cliffs, or the North Town
Outskirts. From there, go all the way south to reach the South Forest.
EXCAVATION SPOTS:
In the northeast- Clematis Hair Ornament
2nd excavation spot- Bastard Sword/Spear
Go all the way south to enter the ruins, which should be marked on your
map, thanks to the map ability that the Pheonix Eye grants you.
As soon as you enter the ruins, you will meet the messenger of the
Muses. He came to invite you to their secret world, so say yes! You can
go there later if you say no. Once you're there, Calliope will come
greet you. She has been waiting... she will go to her garden for now. If
you follow her, you can talk to her and give her a present and we have
don't have any great presents right now. Go back and talk to the blue
angel slime. He wants to take us somewhere else. The Castle of Fate.
fate". You can only go to the Castle of Fate if you have 500 MP or more.
That's great since you have the 500 MP that Calliope gave you for
helping her out! And probably some from her evaluations.
6.10. The Castle of Fate
************************
Climb the stairs and you will find the three Goddesses of Fate.
Apparently, only one is awake. Speak to her, her name is Lachelis. She
sells "threads of fate".
MOIRAI SHOP:
Love Lv1 - 3 uses - 90 MP
Friend Lv1 - 3 uses - 90 MP
Family Lv1 - 3 uses - 90 MP
Hate Lv1 - 3 uses - 90 MP
Strife Lv1 - 3 uses - 90 MP
Loner Lv1 - 3 uses - 90 MP
Rival Lv1 - 3 uses - 90 MP
With the threads of fate you can use link combos! When the link panel
appears during a battle, press X to use the thread of fate. Linked
attacks are more powerful. They have improved damage, range, and
accuracy. Using them also builds relationships between your characters
and changes your team title. You can see your team title from the bottom
screen, under your characters' icons or from the main menu. The two
dominant relationships decide what your team title is. For example, if
the dominant ones are Hate and Friend. Your team name will be: Hate +
Friend = Acquaintances. You can check the relationships between your
party members from the main menu, in the upper screen. They will be
displayed with links of different colors. A team title can be either
negative or positive. Depending on whether it's "good" or "bad", you
will get different sub-events and the dialogues during these will
change. So if you want to play a sub-event that requires a negative team
title, use hate and strife threads of fate or another combination that
would make it negative. Keep in mind that you can reorder your threads
of fates via the Threads of Fate menu and that the one you put first
will be appear far more often than the others. The second one in the
list will be show up quite a bit as well.
TREASURE:
Whip
Potion
RELICS:
Kamaitachi Sickle
Magic Crystal x1
Speed Crystal x1
Power Crystal x1
EXCAVATION SPOTS:
2F, in the lower right part of the room- Cloud Fragment
Go all the way right or left then head up. Turn right then head down. By
now, you should see the stairs leading inside the ruins. There is some
noise! Check the "!" on your right. There is a pink-haired girl looking
for her friend, "Mel". Looks like she headed inside. Anyway, enter the
ruins. Go east and enter the small room and open the treasure chest for
a Whip. Now go back and head north to reach the stairs to the 2F. Now,
head west then up. The treasure chests you see in the first room are
empty; so ignore them. The second small room is a trap. If you step
inside it, you'll be forced into 2 battles. The third small room also
has empty chests, so ignore it and take the stairs to the next floor.
There is noise again. First, go east and head up. In th right part of
the room is a treasure chest containing a potion. Now go back and take
the other path. Let's check the "!". It's the pink-haired girl again,
she couldn't find Mel so she's going back to search again. After the
short discussion, keep heading up and turn left. There is a chest
containing a Relic in the small room, the Kamaitachi Sickle. It grants
you a new map ability, "Demolish". You can check your map abilities from
the "Map abilities" menu. When you want to use one, select it by
pressing A, then in the field, use the Y button when the map ability
panel appears in the bottom right corner of the upper screen.
For now, proceed to the next room. There is a cutscene here. Some
individuals are stealing Relics! The chests are now empty, of course.
Ignore the room in the lower part of the floor too. It contains a
trapped chest that will hurt you. Head up instead, and go to the room on
your right. There are 3 treasure chests there, containing 1 Relic each:
1 Magic Crystal, 1 Speed Crystal, and 1 Power Crystal. You can equip
crystals by using the "Relics" menu. Select a character then equip them
with the crystal you want. Go check the "!" marked on your map now.
Follow those guys! The door will open now that you have enough Relics.
You'll see them lying on the ground. They got the punishment they
deserved... uh, so they weren't working for Ashura. They're "Guardians"
who were trying to protect the Relics actually. Too bad the Ashura's
real minions came and took them away from them. At this point, if you
used a thread of fate and your team title changed, you should get your
fist event from the dialogue with the dying Guardian. Press X and see
what's going on: your party found a crumbled piece of paper. Dependingon your team name, different dialogues may occur. They may think it's a love letter or it's a paper containing Guardian secrets written with a special ink. Pretty funny. Either way, they'll take the paper with them and see what it actually is during their journey. You can find it in your "Event items" menu. Anyway, we must report back to Kai and tell her about the stolen Relics. So go back to Isis Temple and talk to her. Upon hearing the news, she decides to come with you to Ashura's Base to take them back. Yay! She has lower stats than Teacher but they're still pretty good. She's be very important because she wields a Thunder Tome which can get rid of large enemy groups.
