Or a simplified version of Super Robot Wars. Or an insect Mecha version of ... Oh heck. It’s a Strategy RPG. With Insectoid Mecha. Anyway, this guide will cover the weapons available (either constructed or found), where to get them, and what they do. --------------------------- Section 2: Version History --------------------------- 0.8 (6/20/2008): First version. Covers storyline equipment up to Chapter 23, and Badlands up to 34. Released due to requests from GameFAQs Drone Tactics message boards. ------------------------------ Section 3: Weapons in General ------------------------------ The drones in Drone Tactics are all identical. This is an important thing to keep in mind – Yamato in a level 10 Rbeetle has the same basic statistics as an AI controlled level 10 Rbeetle. The difference often will come down to the weapons you’ve equipped on your units. Drone Tactics has a fairly balanced, if somewhat simplistic, battle system (cards excluded). There are only 3 types of attacks: melee attacks, gun attacks, and cannon attacks. Only cannon attacks can hit from more than 1 square away, and a unit cannot use a cannon attack if they have already moved. Note that Locust drones may move AFTER using a cannon attack, but not before. All attacks share 2 things in common: they have a Power rating and an Accuracy rating. Both influence the damage dealt to the target (although Accuracy, of course, determines whether or not you hit the target at all). To date the formula is not yet known, though the raw (pre-defense) damage is the product of the power and accuracy (POW * ACC%). As drones increase in level, their Melee Power, Gun Accuracy, and Cannon Accuracy all increase. Apart from serving as instruments of destruction, weapons can also increase the Accuracy and Range of other attack types, as well as influencing the basic statistics of a drone. Finally, some weapons can only be equipped on certain drones. Which drone may equip each weapon is noted below. Weapons may be scrapped for 1/2 their creation cost. Certain weapons have a value of 2; these are usually found, not constructed, and scrap for a mere 1t of ore. Legend: Weapon Name: Cost in Ore Effect1, Effect2 ... Special Characteristics (see below) Drones which may equip this weapon Location / Unlock (Hangar indicates the item can be built after completing the indicated chapter) For effects, the abbreviations are as follows: MP: Melee Power MA: Melee Accuracy GP: Gun Power GA: Gun Accuracy CP: Cannon Power CA: Cannon Accuracy RNG: Cannon Range, Minimum-Maximum HP: Hit Points DEF: Defense BAR: Barrier SPD: Speed MOV: Movement HPR: Hit Point Recovery There are 3 different special characteristics: A-A (Anti-Air), A-G (Anti- Ground), and B (Beam). Anti-Air doubles the weapon’s power versus air targets; Anti-Ground does the same to ground targets. As far as I have seen, units which have built-in A-A and A-G bonuses (Drgfly, Mantis, Cicada, Moth) cannot equip any weapons with this characteristic, so there is no issue over bonuses being cumulative. Beam weapons use a different damage calculation formula entirely; they use the BARrier value instead of the DEFense value to calculate damage. The game explains this effect during the course of normal story play. Items are sorted by the internal game order (ever notice anything dealing with Rbeetles always comes first, whether you’re looking at the ore you got from killing one or the horns you equip on them? Not coincidence.) ------------------------- Section 4: Melee Weapons ------------------------- Melee weapons are the most specialized of the weapons; many drones have their own specialized melee weapons, and at high levels they often come packaged with significant stat bonuses as well. ******************************** Part A: Drone Specific Weapons ******************************** Pronged Horn: 20 MP +50 Rbeetle Default Weapon Buzzsaw Horn: 80 MP +70, DEF +10 Rbeetle Chapter 8 (CapsuleZ); Hangar from Chapter 10-20 Power Horn: 160 MP +90, HP +50 Rbeetle Chapter 18 (the ‘middle’ CapsuleZ); Hangar from Chapter 20- Electro Horn: 2 MP +90 B Rbeetle Badlands 33 (the left CapsuleZ) A-Air Horn: 210 MP +80 A-A Rbeetle Hangar from Chapter 15- Twin Lancers: ?? (Though this is more the fault of the translation, I’d wager.) The ‘weapons’ in this section are nothing of the sort – they are pieces of equipment that increase various statistics, primarily speed, defense, barrier, movement, and accuracy (usually gun and cannon, as increasing melee accuracy is pointless if you don’t have a weapon in that slot!). Even so, these pieces of equipment are some of the best and most vital in the game. For the most part, you will equip your drones with one true weapons system, be it a melee, gun, or cannon, and use the other slots to increase the drone’s statistics and support their main attack. For these reasons, generalist drones generally are not as welcome as strong specialist drones. It might be a glitch, but I decided to give it a special section. Crusher: 230 MP +90, MOV +1 Rbeetle, Bttrfly, Firefly, Bee, Drgfly, Locust, Cicada, Ladybug, Cntpede, Spider, Roach, Moth Badlands 34 (CapsuleZ) **************************** Part E: Enemy Only Weapons **************************** While a lot of the enemies you encounter in Drone Tactics are enemy controlled versions of your own insects, there are several units which appear that have no analog in your forces. For the most part, these units are really quite bad. They are the Waterbug (decent land drone, resists poison), Strider (bad land drone, resists poison), Ant (bad land drone), Mosquito (bad air drone), and Colony (not really a drone, but I include it here for completeness). They are equipped with weapons, and often times they are unique to these enemies. Obviously, without a cheat device it is impossible to own these weapons, equip them, and there’s no way I can find their value, either. But you can find out their statistics, so here they are. The level guidelines given are rough, but a good estimate of when you’ll start seeing the equipment. Waterbug Shear: L1-13 MP +25 Waterbug Waterbug Claw: L14+ MP +80 Waterbug Strider Spike: L1-9 MP +50 Strider Strider Spike: L10+ MP +60 Strider Ant Fang: L1-8 MP +20 Ant Ant Fang 2: L9-? MP +40 Ant Ant Fang Beam: L?? MP +65 B Ant Mosquito Lance: L1-12 MP +10 Mosquito Mosquito Drill: L13+ MP +40 Mosquito ----------------------- Section 5: Gun Weapons ----------------------- You might think that gun weapons were ranged weapons, allowing you to safely pick at the enemy from a distance. In Drone Tactics, you’d be wrong – the weapons you want for that are Cannon Weapons. Fundamentally speaking, there is no difference between Melee and Gun weapons, only the slots and stats each use. The base raw damage (before evasion and the appropriate defense are taken into account) is equal to the Power * Accuracy%. Melee weapons gain an increase in power per level of the drone (usually from 1-4 points) while Gun weapons gain an increase in accuracy per level (usually from 1-4%). Differences aside, the basic format for information on the gun weapons follows that of the melee weapons. ******************************** Part A: Drone Specific Weapons ******************************** Unlike Melee weapons, where almost every drone has a series of drone specific weapons, only a few drones have their own gun weapons. Those that do are generally geared towards using guns, so the existence of a drone specific gun weapon is a good hint as to the proper use of the drone in question. Flower Bit: 2 GP +130, SPD +30 B Bttrfly Badlands 29 (the CapsuleZ further away from your start) Gatling Wing: 80 GP +80 Drgfly Default Side Cannon: 220 GP +120 Cntpede Hangar from Chapter 25- Gun Barrel: 2 GP +100, DEF +30 B Moth Badlands 32 (CapsuleZ) ******************************** Part B: Multiple Drone Weapons ******************************** There are essentially three lines of ‘generic’ gun weapons: the machine gun/vulcan line, which shoot normal higher powered bullets; the blast gun line, which shoot slightly less powerful beam blasts; and the anti-air system line, which shoot normal shots at fairly high power and which have the Anti- Air attribute (2 x damage!). These can be equipped by any drone except the Cntpede, which has its own special guns and is a powerful shot anyway. Regular guns (MG/Vulcan) are best against enemies with lower defense while Beam guns are better against enemies with high defense (Rbeetles, Pillbugs, and Snails certainly qualify). Using an Anti-Air system can devastating against air units, which generally have low defense, but are less useful against land targets. The fact that almost all gun weapons can be equipped by the majority of drones leads to the new notation: All – (drone names). This means all but the drones after the dash can use the equipment. Machine Gun: 30 GP +50 All - Cntpede Hangar from Chapter 3-16 Vulcan: 80 GP +70 All - Cntpede Hangar from Chapter 6-17 Vulcan 2: 130 GP +90 All – Cntpede Hangar from Chapter 10-? Only the Bttrfly, Cicada, Cntpede, and Moth are definitively gun based, the others are more a judgment call. As a consequence, you should definitely be familiar with this group of weapons. Cannon combat is an exception to that – recipients of a bombardment can only defend or evade. Furthermore, since a LOT of the drones/effects in the game are proximity triggered (e.g., the enemy will only attack you if you move within its movement range), cannon combat can allow you to destroy the enemy before they even move towards you. Or, in the case of a Colony, before it deploys the units within. Since you still will receive full rewards for killing the enemies inside, this is a very good thing. ******************************** Part A: Drone Specific Weapons ******************************** Only two drones have their own special cannons, and of these, only one is worth it. The Firefly, much like the Cntpede for guns, only can use the special Aura Beam cannons designed for it. You will want to use these weapons, anyway, as they are the only beam cannon in the game. The Moth’s default cannon isn’t bad, but the Moth isn’t really good at using cannons, so you will want to equip something else. However, they are extremely effective items – the Banner is excellent for melee fighters (Rbeetle, Pillbug, Mantis) as it boosts accuracy AND heals, and the Winding Key is an excellent choice for Speed-based drones (Bttrfly, Bee, Drgfly, Spider come to mind). Anyway, I will also eventually be releasing a Rewards FAQ (ore rewards and card rewards for killing enemies, as well as a list of where things are by chapter/level), a Drone FAQ (drone stats and growth), and probably a real full FAQ, since I have all the level data (enemies, capsules, stuff like that). The Drone FAQ is only a matter of me typing it up and formatting it; the Rewards is a bit more complex, as I have to do some level limit testing; the full FAQ is ... well, it may be a while.
