Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard Weapon Unlocking FAQ Released on July 11, 2008 by Soren Kanzaki (soren_kanzaki@yahoo.com) ------------------- Table of Contents: ------------------- Section 1: Overview Section 2: Version History Section 3: Legend Section 4: Swords Section 5: Staves Section 6: Axes Section 7: Katana Section 8: Bows Section 9: Whips Section 10: Guns Section 11: Claws Section 12: Credits Section 13: Copyright / Authorization Section 14: Miscellaneous -------------------- Section 1: Overview -------------------- Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard is a wonderful RPG with heavy emphasis on exploration. Mapping and discovering the secrets of the Labyrinth is the key to this adventure. Weapons and other equipment play a huge role in the game - a Gunner, for example, at level 41 has 39 STR, but can equip any gun, even one with over 200 ATK. When retiring your adventurers, their top-level equipment will allow them to continue facing high level enemies, thus preventing grind-induced boredom. Before you get that shiny new sword, though, you must sell certain ingredients to Sitoth Trading in Central City. Once you have met the item requirements, you may purchase as many copies of an item as you want - with certain exceptional pieces of equipment, as noted below. --------------------------- Section 2: Version History --------------------------- 0.7 (6/24/2008): `Ice Cold Steel' - First version. Covers all weapons available from Strata 1-3. 0.8 (6/26/2008): `Cherry Blossoms' - Second version. Adds weapons from Strata 4, some from Strata 5. Corrected a ton of commas. 0.9 (7/03/2008): `Golden Guns' - Third version. Adds weapons from Strata 5. 1.0 (7/11/2008): `Penultimate Perfection?' - Fourth version. All weapons added. Corrected some minor errors. If anyone has any errata, please either post on the Gamefaqs message board or e-mail the author. ------------------ Section 3: Legend ------------------ The format of each entry is thus: Weapon Name Attributes Required Items to Purchase Location of Items Cost in EN to purchase (resell is 20% of purchase value) A sample entry: Flissa <--- Weapon Name ATK +80, STR +2 <--- Attributes Snow Quill x5, Adularia x5 <--- Required Items, separated by commmas Snowbird (15) Normal; Stratum 3 Mine <--- Locations, separated by a semi- colon, with floors noted in (parentheses) and whether it is a Normal or Conditional drop 4850 <--- Price The abbreviations for Attributes are identical to the ones used in the game. Fire, Ice, and Volt indicate that elemental damage of that type will be done. Most gather points (Chop, Mine, Take) are identical for a stratum, though some may favor certain items over others (Narcissus is an excellent example of this in Stratum 3). An exception is the chopping point on Floor 3 in sector B-1; this is the only site where the Bell Fruit can be found. It replaces the Bent Twig. For your information, if you sell 2 Narcissus to Sitoth, you can buy 2 Mists before having to find more. Don't save up! All weapons are listed in the order they are reported in the Gear Registry. Stratum demarcation and floors where enemies are found are based on the earliest possible appearance of the items. Finally, a * indicates that you must sell another set of the items listed to Sitoth to buy another copy of the weapon. These weapons are powerful and rare. ------------------ Section 4: Swords ------------------ Swords (with the exception of Daggers) are for Landsknecht, Protectors, Dark Hunters, Troubadours, Ronin, and War Magi. Of these, Landsknecht, Dark Hunters and War Magi have skills specifically requiring swords. Ronin cannot use their special abilities with swords - they require the use of Katana. Unless noted, Swords inflict Slashing type damage. Stratum 1: Dagger ATK +15 Initial Equipment 25 Kukri ATK +18 Initially Available 120 Falcatta ATK +20 Rat Needle x1 Hedgehog (1) Normal 150 Gladius ATK +35 Metal Hull x3 Kingmai (4) Normal 280 Boar Spear ATK +37, STR +2 Red Shard x5, Aragonite x5 Rehorn (3) Normal; Stratum 1 Mine 350 Carp Sword ATK +43 Gem Eye x1, Feather x7 Evil Eye (4) Conditional; Hypnowl (5) Normal 440 Stratum 2: Kora ATK +50 1 x Rock Shard Mystue (6) Normal 820 Broadsword ATK +60 1 x Armor Hull Tortmail (8) Normal 1220 For those of you who are eager to unlock the Katzbalger early, Poseidons can be encountered when gathering in most of the Stratum 2 collection points. Even back on floor 6. Be aware that unless you have a Survivalist that can nullify the effect, you will be ambushed. Katzbalger ATK +63, STR +1, VIT +1 Red Ball x5, Brute Bone x2 Stratum 2 Mine; Poseidon (10 or spawned from Gather points) Normal 1550 Rapier ATK +66, TP +10 Spine Horn x1 Fireking (8) Normal 2580 Stratum 3: Cutlass ATK +70 Torn Tail x1 Snowzard (12) Normal 3080 Talwaar ATK +79 Red Fin x1 Red Fish (14) Normal 4120 The Estoc (well, and the Melputteh) is unique as it does Piercing, rather than Slashing damage. This makes it similar to Bows and Guns. Estoc ATK +76, HP +10, Pierce Bug Nest x15 Moriyana (11) Normal 4640 Flissa ATK +80, STR +2 Snow Quill x5, Adularia x5 Snowbird (15) Normal; Stratum 3 Mine 4850 Stratum 4: Executor ATK +90 Heaven Pin x1 Killpion (16) Normal 6210 Pattisa ATK +100 Plum Quill x1 Big Moth (18) Normal 8230 Shamshir ATK +102, STR +2 Lilac Vine x3, Malachite x7 Flygourd (17) Normal; Stratum 4 Mine 8790 Flamberge ATK +98, VIT +2, HP +10 Curve Horn x1 Venombug (20) Conditional 8960 Stratum 5: Melputteh +111 ATK, Pierce Coal Bone x2 Ebonwing (22) Normal 13500 The Caledfwlch (yes, there are other spellings, but that applies for more than a few weapons here ...) is unlocked by fighting the tough optional FOEs in Stratum 4 - Voltkings. As such, it is more powerful than some Stratum 5 swords. Caledfwlch +111 ATK, Volt Spinal Fin x1 Voltking (16) Normal 16800 Claymore ATK +122 Damask Bit x1 Beamedge (23) Normal 17600 Duergar ATK +120, AGI +5, HP +10 Moonstone x5, Plum Hide x10 Stratum 5 Mine; Gemzard (24) Normal 18900 Balmung ATK +125 Guard Horn x1* Colossus (23) Normal 24600 Stratum 6: Vorpal ATK +129 Cat's Eye x5, Red Collar x5 Stratum 6 Mine; Gorezard (26) Normal 29800 Tyrfing ATK +133 Ruin Talon x20 Ebonail (28) Normal 34400 Dainsleif ATK +138 Iron Fang x1 Muckdile (30) Normal 50100 While you are not required (nor are you recommended!) to fight the Salamox the first time you arrive on Floor 8, confronting the beast eventually unlocks this powerful Fire-based sword. From this point on, you're looking at FOE or Boss based drops for these swords. Levantine ATK +151, Fire Flame Bone x1* Salamox (8) Normal 155000 To obtain the Rubylight, all you need to do is kill Beamedges on the 23rd floor. Easy! Oh, yes, in 3 turns. Not so easy. Rubylight ATK +169, STR +5, TEC +5 Sword Chip x1 Beamedge (23) Conditional 255000 The ultimate in stat-boost items, the Dragonbane comes from defeating each of the elemental dragons. Their normal drop will suffice for this weapon. Dragonbane ATK +183, All Stats +20 Fire Scale x1*, Ice Scale x1*, Volt Scale x1* Wyrm (6) Normal; Drake (13) Normal; Dragon (17) Normal 265000 Most weapons classes (excluding Staves) have a weapon that causes increased force generation. Dragvandil is the sword which fits this criterion, and is unlocked (as are many, many high level weapons) with 3 units of a drop from a FOE - in this case, the easily found Asterios in the 6th Stratum. You will need their conditional drop, though. Dragvandil ATK +189, Force UP Axe Shard x3 Asterios (26) Conditional 312000 Each weapon class has an `ultimate' weapon that is unlocked via a long quest chain (well, some not so long), often accompanied by a fight with a boss (or multiple lesser FOE-type enemies). These weapons do not appear in the Gear Registry, and are thus not needed to complete the game. However, since many are associated with boss battles, you'll get them anyway in the course of filling your other codices. In this case, the Ygg Sword is a reward for slaying the Wyrm at the end of a long chain of quests: `The white blade's gleam' -> `Old scars, flaring anew' -> `Chasing the dream' -> `An ambassador's plea' -> `The ancient blade' -> `Crimson vengeance'. You'll need to have done a LOT of other things to unlock these quests, so you just might get this weapon last of the ultimate weapons. Ygg Sword ATK +210 Complete Quest: `Crimson vengeance' Cannot be bought or sold ------------------ Section 5: Staves ------------------ As could be expected, Staves are primarily for the `magic' classes - Medics, Alchemists, Troubadours, Hexers, and War Magi. Generally, there are two types of wands - `magic' ones that boost TP and/or TEC, LUC; and `physical' ones that boost HP. `Physical' staves tend to have higher ATK bonuses, as well. All Staves inflict Bashing damage. Stratum 1: Wand ATK +13 Initial Equipment 25 Staff ATK +15, TP +5 Initially Available 80 Amud Staff ATK +18, TP +8 Husk Shard x2 Woodmai (1) Normal 130 Warhammer ATK +41, HP +10 Gel Core x2, Glue Quill x2 Cube Gel (5) Normal; Evil Eye (4) Normal 370 Maimai Bat ATK +37, TP +10 Husk Shard x30 Woodmai (1) Normal 420 Horn Mace ATK +45, HP +20 Red Shard x7, Hard Root x3 Redhorn (3) Normal; Stratum 1 Chop 440 Stratum 2: Milk Staff ATK +48, TP +10 Open Cap x2 Bigcap (6) Normal 830 Gara Rod ATK +63, HP +10 Ruby Shard x2 Garauchi (8) Normal 1250 Milk Maul ATK +65, HP +15 Open Cap x20, Hardwood x5 Bigcap (6) Normal; Stratum 2 Chop 1530 Shard Mace ATK +60, TP +10 Red Core x3, Holed Rock x1 Red Gel (10) Normal; Mystue (6) Conditional 1880 Stratum 3: White Rod ATK +73, HP +10 White Gem x1 Snowsoul (11) Normal 2495 Haze Rod ATK +72, TP +10 Blue Core x1 Blue Gel (14) Normal 4160 Doom Mace ATK +88, HP +20 Sea Branch x3, Torn Tail x15 Stratum 3 Chop; Snowzard (12) Normal 4640 Before someone points out the obvious, Trigourds can be fought before the 3rd Stratum. The game sorts this staff here, possibly because Trigourds are resistant to a LOT of attacks, and the Mirage Rod has a nice, huge TP bonus. Mirage Rod ATK +50, TP +50 Curse Bone x1 Trigourd (6) Normal 4780 Luck Staff ATK +79, LUC +5, TP +10 Shell Chip x5, Front Wing x1 Hugecrab (13) Normal; Moriyana (11) Conditional 4890 The Malice Rod is unlocked by the drop from fighting the Stratum 2 Boss, Hellion. As the * indicates, you must sell another Red Wings to Sitoth to buy another Malice Rod. Malice Rod ATK +73, TEC +8, Fire Red Wings x1* Hellion (10) Normal 5510 Stratum 4: Gold Wand ATK +89, TP +15 Gold Crest x2 Raicho (16) Normal 3705 Thorn Rod ATK +102, HP +10 Hazard Eye x1 Petaloid (20) Normal 8210 Sting Maul ATK +104, STR +1, HP +10 Dark Lymph x1, Heaven Pin x3 Big Moth (18) Conditional; Killpion (16) Normal 8850 Purple Rod ATK +99, TEC +1, TP +10 Plum Quill x5, Scent Wood x5 Big Moth (18) Normal; Stratum 4 Chop 8860 Stratum 5: Quest Rod ATK +117 Lemon Core x1 Gold Gel (21) Normal 13600 War Flail ATK +123 Black Core x1, Metal Chip x3 King Gel (22) Normal; Beamedge (23) Normal or Steelgun (24) Normal or Armorman (25) Normal 17800 Ebon Staff ATK +130, STR +2, HP +20 Black Husk x5, Ironwood x3 Tortiron (25) Normal; Stratum 5 Chop 19300 Goldendag ATK +122, TP +30 Evil Bone x1 Evildra (22) Normal 25500 Stratum 6: Sage Wand ATK +129, TP +50 Moss Shell x10 Oldcrab (26) Normal 31100 Stardust ATK +138, STR +5, HP +50 Pure Horn x10 Trihorn (27) Normal 38900 Arcana Rod ATK +133, TP +40 Deep Leaf x10, Ruin Talon x5 Stratum 6 Chop; Ebonail (28) Normal 52100 The next two staves are considerably more powerful (and expensive) and almost qualify as `FOE Stratum' weapons. They are both unlocked with 3 normal drops from FOE class enemies. Polar Rod ATK +159, TP +30, Ice Ice Horn x3 Iceking (29) Normal 221000 King Staff ATK +203, STR +8, HP +30 Pale Bone x3 Hexgourd (28) Normal 267000 The second best staff in the game is unlocked by defeating the Wyvern (`Call of the Gunner' -> `A diviner's tools' -> `The waiting Wyvern') and killing it in seven turns. Once that's done, this beautiful magic enhancing staff is yours, but you'll need to return to fight the Wyvern again if you want one for each of your magic users (your Alchemist, your Medic, your Hexer ...) Kerykeion ATK +176, TEC +5, TP +40 Tough Wing x1* Wyvern (2) Conditional 333000 The `best' staff in the game is the end reward for saving the forest from infection. The `Infection' quest chain (`The dying forest' -> `Specimen collection' -> `Rescue operation' -> `Outpatient treatment' -> `Yggdrasil's exterminators') that so heavily involves the Hospital and the doctor's assistant is not overly hard (especially compared to some of the other ultimate weapon end fights!), but can be more than a little tedious. This is especially true as the Ygg Staff has no bonus to TEC or TP! It's basically a staff that wishes it was a sword. Still, it's a nice, free, big stick for Troubadours to whack people with until you unlock the best sword ... Ygg Staff ATK +210 Complete Quest: `Yggdrasil's Exterminators', Defeat 5 Invaders Cannot be bought or sold ---------------- Section 6: Axes ---------------- Axes are very simple. Landsknecht, and only Landsknecht, may equip Axes. Their axe skills may only be used if they are using an axe. Axes are generally very powerful. Apparently, Landsknecht don't like sharpening stones, because all Axes inflict Bashing damage. Not Slashing. Stratum 1: Francisca ATK +18 Initially Available 120 Kalinga ATK +21 Earth Nail x1 Mole (1) Normal 160 Spike ATK +33 Cactus Pin x3 Cactoid (2) Normal 220 Tshirovha ATK +39, STR +2 Aragonite x7, Shell Wart x5 Stratum 1 Mine; Roller (3) Normal 410 Tabarzin ATK +46, Fire Red Horn x1, Gel Core x5 Redhorn (3) Normal; Cube Gel (5) Normal 560 Stratum 2: Broadaxe ATK +53 Soft Horn x1 Frilzard (6) Normal 780 Broba ATK +68 Steel Beak x1 Gryphon (9) Normal 1150 Battle Axe ATK +65, STR +2, VIT +2 Moving Eye x5, Fluorite x5 Fangleaf (7) Normal; Stratum 2 Mine 1480 Snow Axe ATK +66, Ice Ice Fiber x1 Red Gel (10) Conditional 1690 The Zeta Axe (in the JP version, this was Epsilon ...) for some reason sorts here. No, its stats weren't changed between versions. Yes, it does have higher attack than the Beheader. Obviously, it is a Stratum 3 axe. Zeta Axe ATK +75 Blue Fin x1 Fishman (11) Normal 2960 Beheader ATK +73 Horn Shard x1, Glow Quill x1 Razeking (8) Normal; Addleowl (10) Normal 3360 Stratum 3: Biliomg ATK +86 Torn Tail x3 Snowzard (12) Normal 3890 Bipennis ATK +88, TP +10 Snow Quill x7, Celestite x1 Snow Bird (15) Normal; Stratum 3 Mine 4450 Volt Axe ATK +84, Volt Space Husk x1, Whole Hull x1 Clawbug (12) Normal; Hugecrab (13) Conditional 4740 Color Axe ATK +95 Color Hull x1 Rainbug (17) Normal 5800 Seeing as the Killclaw is another optional FOE, the Goliath is more powerful and, as usual, outpaces the basic Stratum 4 Color Axe. After all, Killclaws are tougher than Rainbugs. Goliath ATK +91, VIT +2 Red Blade x1, Blue Core x1 Killclaw (13) Normal; Blue Gel (14) Normal 6250 Big Axe ATK +104 Pale Beak x1 Raven (20) Normal 7980 Poison Axe ATK +101, VIT +2, AGI +2 Prehnite x5, Bee Needle x15 Stratum 4 Mine or Shelltor (16) Normal; Waspior (16) Normal Halberd ATK +109, HP +30 Stone Beak x1 Cocatris (19) Normal 11100 Stratum 5: Lochaber ATK +116 Black Hoof x2 Nitemare (21) Normal 12400 Poleaxe ATK +128 Comet Chip x1 Gigantue (24) Normal 16800 Bardiche ATK +126, TP +20 Black Hoof x5 Nitemare (21) Normal 17200 Corseca ATK +129, STR +3 True Soul x1 Armorman (25) Conditional 18700 Stratum 6: Earth Axe ATK +134 Throb Vine x20 Sickwood (27) Normal 28100 Royal Axe ATK +138 Short Nail x20 Crawlest (29) Normal 33300 Demon Axe ATK +143 Plum Scale x20 Sauromar (30) Normal 48910 The Meteor Axe is your reward for killing the Golem instantly. As such, it is better than most Stratum 6 axes. Amazingly, it is a bit less powerful than the Bomb Axe which follows (181 + 14 = 195 ATK boost), but it is more accurate and non-elemental. Meteor Axe ATK +181, STR +14, ACC UP Statue Arm x1 Golem (25) Conditional 251000 If you kill Hellion with an instant kill attack (Climax, Kubiuchi, etc.), then you can get its Conditional drop and this very strong axe. Bomb Axe ATK +196, Fire Sharp Claw x1* Hellion (10) Conditional 267000 The excellent Dragon Axe is your reward for fighting the biggest T-Rexes in the game, Riptors. Not only that, you must obtain 3 of their conditional drops. However, this is the Force UP weapon for Axes, allowing the use of All Out more often by Landsknecht. Dragon Axe ATK +200, Force UP Call Horn x3 Riptor (27) Conditional 292000 The dark, deep secret about Landsknecht is that they play chess. They must! The strongest axe in the game, the Ygg Axe, is deceptively unlocked after you finish collecting all the chess pieces and trade for the Queen. (`The beautiful Queen' [you only need to sign up] -> `Quid pro quo' -> `The iron-walled Rook' -> `The wise King' -> `The courageous Knight' -> `The opposing one' -> `Monarchy's restoration' -> `Bonds of promotion' -> `Ancient politics' -> `The beautiful Queen') Oh, you get a Beast Bell, too. Ygg Axe Complete Quest: `The beautiful Queen' Cannot be bought or sold ------------------ Section 7: Katana ------------------ Katana are only for Ronin. Really, nothing more to say, except that they do Slashing damage (as could be expected). Stratum 1: Sasuga ATK +20 Initially Available 90 Wakizashi ATK +25 Cactus Pin x1 Cactoid (2) Normal 180 Kodachi ATK +37 Red Shard x1, Bug Nail x3 Red Horn (3) Normal; Ladybug (3) Normal 270 Warabide ATK +39, STR +2 Amazonite x7, Rat Needle x15 Stratum 1 Mine; Hedgehog (1) Normal 450 Kurodachi ATK +46, Ice Iron Shell x7 Kingmai (4) Conditional 580 Stratum 2: Tachi ATK +51 Soft Horn x3 Frilzard (6) Normal 790 Thanks to some different resources, I have found what items go here. As the Sensui requires you to fight a very powerful red FOE, it's a stratum 1 weapon in the stratum 2 section. Novices are encouraged to avoid the Stalker - it's a lot more powerful than the other FOEs on the third floor. Sensui ATK +55, STR +2 Sickle x1, Feathers x5 Stalker (3) Normal; Hypnowl (5) Normal 1020 Nodachi ATK +63 Red Core x1 Red Gel (10) Normal 1180 Zanmatou ATK +62, Fire Green Hide x7, Red Ball x3 Firezard (8) Normal; Stratum 2 Mine 1480 Shida ATK +67, STR +2 Sharp Nail x1 Redwood (7) Normal 2080 Stratum 3: Ganyu ATK +74 Bug Nest x1 Moriyana (11) Normal 2880 Ochiba ATK +87 Pale Arm x1 Nastue (15) Normal 3860 Nikkari ATK +84, AGI +2, HP +10 Snow Fang x10, Celestite x5 Wolf (13) Normal; Stratum 3 Mine 4360 Kuzunosada ATK +86, STR +2 Space Husk x5, Dew Scale x1 Clawbug (12) Normal; Fishman (11) Conditional 4620 Stratum 4: Kishindaioh ATK +93 Bee Needle x2 Waspior (16) Normal 5790 The strong Kotsujiki sorts after the Kishindaioh based on strength. And the fact that you have to fight Helldras. Kotsujiki ATK +99, VIT +3 Metal Horn x1; Dark Scale x1 Armoth (13) Normal or Warbull (15) Normal, Helldra (12) Normal 6640 Juzumaru ATK +103 Gold Claw x1 Glowbird (19) Normal 7870 Doujigiri ATK +105, STR +1, TP +5 Color Hull x20 Rainbug (17) Normal 8520 Hachi ATK +111, LUC +15 Blue Petal x1, Malachite x1 Wrathbud (19) Conditional; Stratum 4 Mine Stratum 5: Dotanuki ATK +115 Pale Hull x3 Nozuchi (22) Normal 13100 Nenekiri ATK +128 Black Husk x1 Steelgun (24) Normal 17200 Onimaru ATK +129, STR +2 Black Core x10, Metal Chip x10 King Gel (22) Normal; Beamedge (23) Normal or Steelgun (24) Normal or Armorman (25) Normal 18400 Ichimonji ATK +127, AGI +5, TP +20 Coal Brick x1, Moonstone x10 Mandrake (21) Conditional; Stratum 5 Mine 19100 Stratum 6: Hotarumaru ATK +138, Fire Red Metal x20 Bloodman (26) Normal 44600 Chidori ATK +142, Volt Moss Shell x5, Dry Thorn x10 Oldcrab (26) Normal, Catclord (29) Normal 46600 The abnormally powerful Youtou comes from the normal drop of the Stratum 4 boss, Harpuia. As with most boss based equipment, you'll need another Harpy Wing to buy another Youtou. Youtou ATK +186, STR +5, TP +50 Harpy Wing x1* Harpuia (20) Normal 296000 As the end of the `The perfect gift' -> `The sleeping Duke' -> `An outing in the forest' -> `Easing the pain' -> `A life in the balance' series of quests, you will have to face the Drake. Not only will you get the Ice Vines, you'll also unlock the Hisamemaru if you kill Drake with Ice (hint, bring a Hexer with Dampen!). Hisamemaru ATK +192, Ice Frost Bone x1* Drake (13) Conditional 303000 Shishinoko ATK +198, HP +30 Gem Chip x1 Asterios (26) Normal 338000 The ultimate weapon in the game, bar none, is the Masamune (as is true of so many games - Masamune was a historical swordsmith, look him up!). Not only does this katana boast a whopping 256 ATK bonus, it boosts a Ronin's stats by 10. All of them. Combined with the special Ronin-only armor (Ruby Mail, Headpiece, Ruby Gage), fully equipped Ronin have very intimidating stats. All you have to do is kill the toughest boss in the game - the Ur- Child. Which begs the question - if you beat the Ur-Child, why do you need the Masamune? Masamune ATK +256, All Stats +10 Eden Apple x1* Ur-Child (30) Normal The `best' katana (though far worse than the Masamune) is unlocked by finishing the quest chain: `Rendering assistance' -> `The second grail' -> `Premonition of battle' -> `The best laid plans' -> `Shadow of the castle'. You have to fight Briareus (which is about as strong as one of the three dragons, but isn't elemental), and at the end, you'll find Hyuga. Hyuga ATK +210 Complete Quest: `Shadow of the castle', Defeat Briareus Cannot be bought or sold ---------------- Section 8: Bows ---------------- Bows are a versatile weapon, and can be used by Survivalists and Troubadours. (Yes, Troubadours will use anything, it seems.) I think they do full damage from the back row, like guns, but don't quote me on that. Bows inflict Piercing damage. Stratum 1: Sling ATK +16 Initially Available 90 Wood Bow ATK +27 Bug Wing x1, Bent Twig x1 Venomfly (2) Normal; Stratum 1 Chop 170 Short Bow ATK +34 Glue Quill x1 Evil Eye (4) Normal 270 Beast Bow ATK +39, STR +1 Bent Twig x5, Feather x10 Stratum 1 Chop; Hypnowl (5) Normal 440 Hindi ATK +36, AGI +3, LUC +3 Long Pin x7, Bug Wing x6 Hedgehog (1) Conditional; Venomfly (2) Normal 560 Stratum 2: Long Bow ATK +52 Steel Fang x2 Gigaboar (7) Normal 770 Vine Bow ATK +59 Steel Horn x1 Actaeon (9) Normal 1130 Self Bow ATK +56, STR +2, AGI +2 Ruby Scale x15, Red Root x1 Garauchi (8) Normal; Stratum 2 Chop 1440 Scorch Bow ATK +62, Fire Steel Horn x1, Curse Nail x1 Actaeon (9) Normal; Addleowl (10) Conditional 1395 In order to buy another Shadow Bow, you must sell Sitoth another Brute Tail. The bow is your regardless of which choices you made in the quest line or your party composition. Divide Bow ATK +210 Complete Quest: `The volt king's rampage', Defeat Dragon Cannot be bought or sold ----------------- Section 9: Whips ----------------- Since there is no Archaeologist class, Whips can only be used by Dark Hunters. I'm pretty sure Whips do Slashing damage. Plain Whip ATK +17 Initially Available 80 Nail Whip ATK +19 Small Nail x1 Crawler (1) Normal 130 Bullwhip ATK +32 Gum Hide x2 Furyhorn (2) Normal or Roller (3) Normal or Furylord (3) Normal or Raptor (4) Normal or Slaveimp(4) Normal 260 Slice Whip ATK +38, STR +2 Armor Hull x15, Bent Twig x3 Kingmai (4) Normal; Stratum 1 Chop or Fangleaf (7) Normal Briar Whip ATK +42, VIT +1, AGI +1 Gum Vine x5 Raflesia (5 or spawned from Gather points) Conditional 520 Stratum 2: Bird Whip ATK +51 Tail Quill x1 Moa (6) Normal 680 Flame Whip ATK +62, Fire Green Hide x1 Firezard (8) Normal 1070 Sting Whip ATK +64, VIT +2, AGI +2 Soft Horn x30 Frilzard (6) Normal 1350 Snake Whip ATK +66, STR +2 Ruby Scale x5, Red Root x5 Garauchi (8) Normal; Stratum 2 Chop 1680 In order to buy another Beast Tail, you must sell Sitoth another Brute Tail from the Chimaera. I'm not sure if you need to sell them more Steel Fangs, though. As noted before, purchasing this precludes the purchase of a Shadow Bow, and vice versa, until another Tail is sold. Beast Tail ATK +65, VIT +2, LUC +2 Brute Tail x1*, Steel Fang x2 Chimaera (5) Normal; Gigaboar (7) Normal 2310 Stratum 3: Rouge Whip ATK +70 Red Mane x1 Slepnir (11) Normal 2760 Wolf Pain ATK +84 Snow Fang x1 Wolf (13) Normal 3840 Tentacle ATK +83, AGI +2, LUC +2 Bison Hide x5 Warbull (15) Normal 4420 Gore Chain ATK +86, STR +2 Stag Horn x1, Red Mane x5 Clawbug (12) Conditional; Sleipnir (11) Normal 4710 Stratum 4: Gale Whip ATK +92 Razor Edge x1 Windsnip (17) Normal 5710 Plant Whip ATK +102 Lilac Vine x1 Flygourd (17) Normal 7800 Knout ATK +101, AGI +5 Razor Edge x15 Windsnip (17) Normal 8530 Seven Whip ATK +104, VIT +2, LUC +2 Dew Beak x10, Arc Branch x3 Diatrima (18) Normal; Stratum 4 Chop 8660 Stratum 5: Scourge ATK +114 Cry Root x1 Mandrake (21) Normal 13200 The Pale Queen, as well as Snow White, are unlocked from the normal drop of the Stratum 3 Boss, Scylla. Note that if you buy one, the other is also disable until you kill Scylla again. Pale Queen ATK +103, TEC +5, Ice Snow Vine x1* Scylla (15) Normal 14800 Dead Whip ATK +125 Plum Hide x1 Gemzard (24) Normal 17300 Tormentor ATK +128, LUC +5, TP +20 Pure Shell x10, Gum String x3 Defender (25) Normal; Stratum 5 Chop 18600 Comet Whip ATK +126, VIT +5, HP +30 Coal Skull x1 Ebonwing (22) Conditional 19000 Stratum 6: Noir Queen ATK +133 Shiny Vine x3, Red Metal x5 Stratum 6 Chop; Bloodman (26) Normal 29100 Spine Whip ATK +139 Great Horn x20 Carbuncl (28) Normal 33900 Volt Whip ATK +141, Volt Dry Thorn x20 Cactlord (29) Normal 47800 Octal Whip ATK +161, VIT +10, HP +20 Risky Vine x8, Throb Vine x1 Pollener (17) Normal; Sickwood (27) Normal 18600 Beam Whip ATK +173, AGI +10, TP +30 Red Quill x1, Dewbone x5 Mothlord (29) Normal; Riptor (27) Normal 277000 To unlock the second best whip, all you have to do is fight Flygourds ... which are Trigourds but tougher. And have them completely bound. Ick. A Dark Hunter with Dominate is probably what you'll need. All by the Fourth Stratum! Dominator ATK +196, STR +8, Force UP Curse Vine x3 Flygourd (17) Conditional 350000 The Ice Vines are a reward from a long quest chain (`The perfect gift' -> `The sleeping Duke' -> `An outing in the forest' -> `Easing the pain' -> `A life in the balance'). While this whip has the highest ATK bonus, the Force generation boost of the Dominator is nothing to sneeze at. You cannot buy or sell the Ice Vines, and it does not appear in the Gear Registry either. However, you can store it in the Flaus Inn, if you so chose. Ice Vines ATK +210 Complete Quest: `A Life in the Balance', Defeat Drake Cannot be bought or sold ----------------- Section 10: Guns ----------------- To use guns, you must be a Gunner. I'm thinking guns are usually quite slow, as my gunner which is higher level and higher AGI than my other characters seems to go towards the end in a fight. Guns inflict Piercing damage. Stratum 1: Fire Gun ATK +21 Initially Available 130 Culverin ATK +35 Bug Nail x1 Ladybug (3) Normal 240 Volcanic ATK +43 Feather x1 Hypnowl (5) Normal 370 Matchlock ATK +46, STR +3 Lymph x3, Amazonite x3 Venomfly (2) Conditional; Stratum 1 Mine or Mystue (6) Normal 530 Stratum 2: Madfa ATK +55 Moving Eye x1 Fangleaf (7) Normal 870 Shotgun ATK +65 Brute Bone x1 Poseidon (10 or spawned from Gather points) Normal 1290 Ice Musket ATK +68, STR +2, Ice Steel Horn x10 Actaeon (9) Normal 1610 Godhunter ATK +66, AGI +2, ACC UP Holed Rock x1, Fluorite x3 Mystue (6) Conditional; Stratum 2 Mine 1920 Stratum 3: Nalnari ATK +74 White Gem x1 Snowsoul (11) Normal 3020 Hand Cannon ATK +88 Shell Chip x1 Hugecrab (13) Normal 4030 Fire Saker ATK +87, VIT +2, Fire Blue Core x10, Adularia x3 Blue Gel (14) Normal; Stratum 3 Mine 4550 Iron Saker ATK +90, TP +10 Metal Horn x3, Red Scale x1 Armoth (13) Normal or Warbull (15) Normal; Red Fish (15) Conditional 4780 Stratum 4: Wyrmhunter ATK +95 Bee Needle x1 Waspior (16) Normal 6220 Arquebus ATK +106 Dark Spur x1 Venombug (20) Normal 8250 Dark Saker ATK +104, AGI +3, ACC UP Gold Claw x10 Glowbird (18) Normal 8900 Volt Gun ATK +103, Volt Wind Blade x2, Malachite x3 Windsnip (17) Conditional; Stratum 4 Mine 9190 Stratum 5: Steel Gun ATK +116 Pale Hull x1 Nozuchi (22) Normal 14000 Another FOE based weapon. The Apollo Gun can carry you through the fourth Stratum, though. Apollo Gun ATK +110, HP +10 100 Shell x1 Shelltor (16) Normal 15600 You obtain the Shot Shard by fighting a special boss on Floor 15. I won't spoil the story unnecessarily apart from listing the name. The Zamiel Gun has lower accuracy, according to its listed stats. And you can buy as many as you like, too - you don't need more Shot Shards. Zamiel Gun ATK +109, STR +5, ACC DOWN Shot Shard x1 Wilhelm (15) Normal 17100 Dragoon ATK +129 True Shard x2 Stir Eye (24) Normal 18100 Agbuster ATK +128, AGI +5, ACC UP Pale Hull x20, Tourmaline x5 Nozuchi (22) Normal, Stratum 5 Mine 18800 Gold Gun ATK +131, VIT +5, HP +20 Gold Arm x1 Steelgun (24) Conditional 19900 Stratum 6: Gae Bolg ATK +135 Gold Spore x10 Kingcap (26) Normal 30100 Land Saker ATK +139 Pure Horn x20 Trihorn (27) Normal 39100 Angel Cry ATK +143 Short Nail x5, Plum Scale x10 Crawlest (29) Normal; Sauromar (30) Normal 53300 Gugnir ATK +185, AGI +10, ACC UP Giant Horn x1, Ice Bone x1 Carbuncl (28) Normal; Iceking (29) Conditional 232000 Megido Gun ATK +189, TP +30, Fire Flame Bone x2*, Thorn Bone x5 Salamox (8) Normal; Hexgourd (28) Normal 278000 For the serious gun enthusiast, fighting Salamox and killing him with a fire-based attack (again, Hexer time!) will net the Flame Puff, which unlocks this beast of a weapon. Agneyastra ATK +202, STR +5, Force UP Flame Puff x1* Salamox (8) Conditional 331000 The ultimate gun (whose description makes me think - laser) is the final reward for the short 3 quest arc: `Call of the Gunner' -> `A diviner's tools' -> `The waiting Wyvern'. As you'll be fighting the Wyvern, too, you can unlock the special Troubadour armor and a very good staff (the Kerykeion, see above). Unlike many other `ultimate' weapons, the Agnea is actually the highest ATK gun in the game. It doesn't have the Agneyastra's increased force generation, though, nor the nice STR bonus. Don't forget that you'll need the Yggdrasil Key to access the first and third quest. Agnea ATK +210 Complete Quest: `The waiting Wyvern', Defeat Wyvern Cannot be bought or sold ------------------ Section 11: Claws ------------------ Apparently, Sitoth Trading (and, I suppose Thompson Sitoth? They do name Thompson as well as his daughter Abigail, I'm assuming his last name is name of the company, though it could be his last name) know more than you do. Even before you can unlock the Beast class, you can unlock Claws. One size must fit all, too, since Wolves can use the same ones a Pandas. Anyway, Claws are for Beasts only, and there are only a few of them (like Beast armor). Claws, it seems, inflict Bashing damage. Stratum 1: Royal Claw ATK +47 Metal Hull x1 Kingmai (4) Normal 420 Stratum 2: Iron Claw ATK +64, STR +1 Steel Fang x1 Gigaboar (7) Normal 990 Breaker ATK +65, ACC UP Armor Hull x2, Red Ball x1 Tortmail (8) Normal; Stratum 2 Mine 1020 Hell Claw ATK +61, Fire Brass Fang x1, Gel Core x2 Raptor (4) Normal; Cube Gel (5) Normal 1210 Stratum 3: Aqua Claw ATK +86, Ice Space Husk x1 Clawbug (12) Normal 3650 Hard Nail ATK +91 Pale Arm x5 Nastue (15) Normal 4380 Stratum 4: Wind Claw ATK +106 Razor Edge x2 Windsnip (17) Normal 7890 Risk Claw ATK +105, HP +20, TP +20 Hazard Eye x5 Petaloid (20) Normal Stratum 5: Sonic Claw ATK +126 Bat Fangs x2 Woodbat (21) Normal 17900 Comet Nail ATK +127, VIT +5, HP +30 Comet Chip x20, Lemon Core x10 Gigantue (24) Normal; Yellow Gel (21) Normal 19800 Blood Nail ATK +139 Jade Thews x5, Red Lymph x10 Stratum 6 Mine; Mothlord (29) Normal 46900 Purr Claw ATK +187, HP +50, TP +50 Sword Claw x3 Raidmole (2) Conditional 295000 Sten Nail ATK +198, STR +5, VIT +5 Giant Post x1* Briareus (28) Condtional 339000 In order to unlock the best claw in the game, you need to complete the monster series of quests (`Beast gone berserk' -> `The forefront of research' -> `The value of knowledge' -> `Beyond the depths' -> `Charity to monsters') These quests involve more backtracking than combat, but you'll need to have unlocked the Volt Gun and Tormentor, and you'll need a Beast strong enough to solo a bit of floor 18. Then again, if you don't have a beast, why do you want this weapon? Bond Claw ATK +210 Complete Quest: `Charity to monsters', Defeat Huelord Cannot be bought or sold -------------------- Section 12: Credits -------------------- There are several people without whose publicly available resources this document could have never been complied: GameFAQs (www.gamefaqs.com), for being the comprehensive game information site; The Japanese language Etrian Odyssey II wikis at: http://www5.atwiki.jp/sekaiju_maze2/, and http://kouryakusimasu.web.fc2.com/sekaiju/index.html helped me get the weapons unlocked in the first place; The Etrian Odyssey II boards on GameFAQs, which is home to several posters with excellent information, opinions, and analysis on the game. Terence, especially, was helpful with his Conditional Items drop postings; Scy046 has also been an all around source of good information and answers. Zaraf (and those individuals he credits) also has produced wonderful maps for the aspiring adventurer.
