Now, this is my first time at writing an FAQ, so I would really appreciate it if you could email me any suggestions or constructive critism towards this guide, so that I can improve upon both this and and many future guides to come. I hope you enjoy reading it, and, without further ado, let's begin the wonderous game that is Children of Mana. NOTE: Just a quick note, if you are looking for a particular part of the walkthrough, then in the Table of Contents there is a code next to each part. Simply press CTRL+F and then type in the code to instantly move to the section you are looking for. Alternatively, you can just search for the name of the thing you are looking for, and it should appear. ____________________________________________________________________________ |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | Version 0.10 | + Finished Character Creation and The Mana Tower Sections. | | | + About to start 'Preparation for TOpple' section. | |____________________________________________________________________________| | Version 0.15 | + Finished Preparation for Topple section. | | | + Added Legal and Copyright section and Credit and Thanks | | | section. | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ____________________________________________________________________________ |~\/~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~\/~| | || CT.TS || Table of Contents || CT.TS || | |_||_______||____________________________________________________||_______||_| |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | - Table of Contents.....................CT.TS | | - Controls..............................CN.RL | | - Introduction..........................IN.DC | | - Walkthrough...........................01.00 | | - Character Creation...............01.01 | | - The Mana Tower...................01.02 | | - Preparation for Topple ..........01.03 | | - Legal & Copyright.....................LE.AL | | - Credits & Thanks......................CR.DS | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +____________________________________________________________________________+ |~\/~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~\/~| | || IN.DC || Introduction || IN.DC || | |_||_______||____________________________________________________||_______||_| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As soon as you load up the game, you are welcomed by a glorious anime FMV. Each of the four characters has their own advantages and disadvantages, but some are overall harder to use than others. Here is a list showing which are easier and harder out of the four to use: +--------------+-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Ferrik | The easiest of the four. He has a good all round base, and | | | is perfect for new players. | |--------------+-------------------------------------------------------------| | Wanderer | A good character for people who just want to hack and slash | | | their way through the game. He is of a medium difficulty | | | level to use. | |--------------+-------------------------------------------------------------| | Poppen | Has extremely high MP, but low HP. He is fairly hard to use | | | for people who have never played this game before. Not | | | recommended for beginners. | |--------------+-------------------------------------------------------------| | Tamber | Has fast attacks and fairly high MP, but again, suffers from| | | low HP. Not recommended for new players, but is worth a try | | | if you are up for a challenge. | +--------------+-------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you have selected your character, you get to choose what colour your character is. This has absolutely no outcome on the game, so feel free to pick a colour that you like. For this walkthrough, I chose Ferrik with Orange Hair. After you have selected your colour, your get to name your character. I find it easier to keep the names as they are, but you can change them if you wish. Once you've done all of that, hit OK and you will be given a brief overview of what is going on in the world. I won't bother telling you what happens, as you can just read it yourself. Once you've read the story, it's time to begin. ______________________________________________________________________________ +-- THE MANA TOWER ------------------------------------------------- 01.02 --+ Each character has a different starting story but they all lead to Tess. Basically, no matter what the 'Next Step' thing says on your touch screen, you have to go and visit Tess in the end. So, go up to the top of the village and talk to the blonde girl who is knelt by the engraved rock. After the conversation, she will ask you to take something to Moti, the Mayor. Go down, and then right across the bridge. The house we are looking for should have a floating tree thing next to it, so just check to make sure you are outside the right place. Then go inside... Once you've given the requested item to Moti, a short fellow will walk in and start a conversation with the two of you. His name is Watts, and he's the King of Mines. After some introductions between the characters, and talk about some evil Mavolia there will be an earthquake, shortly followed by a man running into the Mayor's house and ranting about something to do with the stone. The next scene is outside. The stone Tess was praying at cracks, and then a woman comes up screaming about 'The Mana Tower'. Your character decides that it would be a good idea to go and rescue her. Before the cutscene ends though, Watts gives you 'Gem Frame' and Moti gives you a 'Magic Rope'. Now you are free to roam the village before you set off on your first quest. There are a few things that we need to do before we set off though, so lets get crackin'! The first thing you need to do is to press start and open up the main menu. Then select 'Gems' and assign the gem you were given by Watts to the Gem Grid. To do this, first select the category that the gem is located in. There should be seven to choose from, and one of them will be lit up. So, press this and then drag the gem in here onto the grid. It doesn't matter what square you use for now. Once you've done this go left from where you are placed after the cutscene and into the big building. This is 'The Silver Mermaid'. To save you having to do it later, talk to the following people: The mermaid in the bathtub, the short furry things behind the desk in front of the mermaid and the huge rabbit behind the counter on the second floor. I wouldn't recommend buying anything now, as money is scarce, and most of the items that you can buy are available from the upcoming dungeon for free. Once you have spoken to everyone, you can leave 'The Silver Mermaid'. Now, head down and as you try to exit the village, you are stopped by a voice. After some conversation, you are given the choice of eight guardian mana spirits. Now, they all do basically the same attack, just with a different element tagged onto it. The only difference with them is the support that they give you. This is a power that you are given for a short period of time that can help you. Again, they are mostly the same, bar the element that you are given. Select which ever you please, then press 'Take Along' and let the adventure continue... You will now be presented with a World Map. Now, get familiar with this, as it will be used alot later on in the game. Either touch the Mana Tower circle or select it with the D-Pad and A Button. Then press Enter. After you see your character walking up to the tower, you are thrown right into your first dungeon. Don't worry though, as the in game tutorial will guide you through how to fight and heal etc. Now, one of my top tips is to explore each level of every dungeon you go through very thouroughly. This will bag you more XP and items from the chests and creatures that you fight. Also, use the radar! It shows you where any monsters are that you might have missed, and also treasure chests, the gleamdrop and the gleamwell. Monsters appear as purple dots, treasure chests as green ones, the gleam drop and as an orange dot and finally the gleamwell and as pulsating blue dot. So, first floor of your first dungeon. Well, after your character has a conversation with the guardian spirit you chose, monsters will appear, and you have to fight them. It's very easy, especially if you chose Ferrik or Wanderer as your character. Just hack and slash your way through them with the A Button. After you've done this, Head upwards and you will be greeted by some Dudbear archers. If you want to play it safe then stand in the middle of them and hold the A Button to turn on your shield. Then wait whilst they fire arrows at you and they will get rebounded back at them. Or, if you want to be a little more adventurous, then hack and slash these guys up as well, but be prepared to take a few hits, as you can't take them all on at once, and they will shoot you. Once they have been defeated, head right and you'll be taught about the Fury Gauge at the bottom. Basically, once it is full up, you can hit select and for a short time you will be faster and stronger, as well as having the ability to do powerful attacks by holding down the A Button. This does however disable the protect ability, so beware of archers and other ranged attacking foes. Next, you will be introduced to the spirit attack system. Simply hold down B and when you glow with the colour of your spirit let go and you will summon it. Now, when this happens you have two choices. You can either A) Let the spirit do its thing and blast the foes or B) Walk over the spirit and gain it's support attack. It's your choice. But, in this situation, I would recommend summoning the spirit to attack. Just hold down B and walk into the middle of the Slimes. Then let go and watch your spirit unleash havoc. After this is done, nearly all the Slimes should be dead, but with one that remains, try to attack it near the two large, blue pots to the right. This should break them, enabling you to go and get the treasure chest. Now head down. After some more conversation with your spirit, you are told you have to find a gleamdrop and put it on the gleamwell. This is fairly simple in this dungeon, but later on, it can be quite hard. Luckily though, there is always a hint at where it is on the bottom screen. This time it is hidden beneath a pot. Head down and kill the two slimes and then head left and smash all the pots below you. Continue down and keep breaking the pots. The gleamdrop will be under one of the pots right next to the gleamwell. However, DO NOT GO TO THE NEXT FLOOR YET! There are plenty of treasure chests to get, and why miss out on loot? So, once you've uncovered the gleamdrop finish off any Slimes that may be left and then smash the rest of the pots around here. You should unconver a few Gumdrops im doing this. Once you've done that, head back up to where you learnt how to use your spirit and then head left. Go down and you should see another treasure chest here. Break it open with the A Button and grab your loot. Then head back to the gleamdrop, pick it up with the A Button and walk onto the gleamwell. Then press A again to warp to the second floor. After yet another conversation with your spirit, you will be taught how to heal yourself with recovery items. Simply press Y to do this, but be careful; you don't want to waste them all at once. Secondly you are told you can switch between the different recovery items you have by pressing the L Button. Thirdly you are told that you can play multiplayer with friends by going back to Mana Village, opening the main menu and hitting Multiplayer. Head through the one-way corridor and defeat the enemies that appear. Then head up. You wil see a crate. Now, I've had lots of experience with these, and I highly recommend you DO NOT attack it. They are useful for breaking the large, blue pots if an enemy is not near and if you do attack it, there is a chance that it will start a chain reaction off with enemies bouncing from one to another, which can sometimes end up hitting you back. Simply push it by walking into it and then defeat the enemies here. Then continue left, defeating all the enemies in your path. Head down, again killing all the monsters and you should come to an area with lots of brown pots. Destroy them all, whilst defeating the monsters that attack you. Watch out for the floating sword, as it can be a nuisance. If you broke all the pots, you should have uncovered the gleamdrop. Before you put it on the gleamwell, go up to the top right corner of this room and you will be attacked by three swords. Whilst killing them, try and get one of them up against the pot, so you can smash it and claim your prize. Just a quick note before we continue, the treasure chests usually contain better loot depending on their colour. Fot example, if you have a Gold Chest, it will much likely contain something better than a Brown one. It goes in this order. Brown
