Seiken Densetsu: Children of Mana By Chaosdragon13 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0.1 - Not much is done in the way of a walkthrough or story translation, but the most important things like everything under the 'basics' section is complete so it should be of some help. 0.2 - Finished up the things to do after the Mana Tower, added the item section, and finished right up to after Start Lake. Most of the time I will submit updates on Tuesdays since that is the only day of the week where I have a lot of free time to work on this. So check back around that time to see the new version is up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Index: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The menu looks like this: Salamander Undine Gnome Jin Dryad Luna Wisp Shade To use magic during a level you have to hold down B until you see the glow around your character, then release the button. Each spell costs 5MP. However, if you use a gem to increase the magic level to Lv2 or Lv3 it will cost 10MP and 15MP respectively. After casting the spell you will see the Mana spirit you have equipped to yourself appear. At this point there are two things you can do. 1. Leave the spirit alone. It will start to flash and then use its attack magic. Also during this time you can press B a second time and the spirit will move in the direction you are facing until it either hits a wall or it uses its attack. This way you can attack enemies without having to stand in the middle of them. 2. You can walk into the spirit before it starts to blink and gain the use of the spirit's aid magic. Salamander - Fire Element Attack Magic: Explode Aid Magic: Flame Saber -Flame Saber adds a fire element to your sword for a short time and has the possibility to give you enemies the 'fire' status. Undine - Water Element Attack Magic: Ice Smash Aid Magic: Ice Saber -Ice Saber adds an ice element to your sword for a short time and has the possibility to give your enemies the 'snowman' status. Gnome - Earth Element Attack Magic: Earthquake Aid Magic: Diamond Saber -Diamond Saber adds an earth element to your sword for a short time and has the possibility to give you enemies the 'no weapon' status. Jin - Wind Element Attack Magic: Air Blast Aid Magic: Thunder Saber - Thunder Saber adds a wind element to your sword for a short time and has the possibility to give your enemies the 'numb' status. Dryad - Wood Element Attack Magic: Tree Vine Aid Magic: Aura Wave -Aura Wave causes you to be immune to all status effects for a short time. Luna - Moon Element Attack Magic: Energy Ball Aid Magic: Life Booster -Life Booster slowly heals you over the duration of the spell. Wisp - Light Element Attack Magic: Holy Ball Aid Magic: Heal Light -Heal Light heals you for a given HP depending on the Lv of the spell. Shade - Dark Element Attack Magic: Dark Force Aid Magic: Invisible -Invisible causes your character to become invisible for the duration of the spell. Raising the level of the spell will cause your attack magic to have a larger attack radius and will cause your aid magic to have a longer duration. ******************************************************************************* 1.c) Villagers ******************************************************************************* Outside: Tonio-jiisan: The old man found walking near the enterance of the village. - 'jiisan' is a title used for either your grandfather or an older man. Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay so you go the game, turned it on and its all in Japanese, so now what? Main Screen: Well it says in English to push start, and it also says at the bottom to either press start or press the bottom screen. So you do so and it gives you two choices in Japanese which are: - New Game - Continue Character Selection Screen: After choosing 'New Game' you are brought to a screen to select your character. ******************************************************************************* 2.a) Choosing Your Character ******************************************************************************* There are four characters to choose from and each character has four colors. Most likely the reason for the different colors is to differentiate between characters during multiplayer mode when two players use the same character. Flick (top left) HP: **** MP: *** Skill: ** Spirit: ** - Attack, defence, and magic, he has them all. he is good at both close and far ranged attack. As it is he is a well rounded type. Color Menu: Orange Hair Green Hair Blue Hair Sliver Hair Return Pop (top right) HP: * MP: ***** Skill: *** Spirit: *** - Attack magic is his forte so he is an magic using type. He has weak defence, and his close range fighting is a little poor. Color Menu: Yellow Style White Style Blue Style Red Style Return Wanderer (bottom left) HP: ***** MP: ** Skill: * Spirit: *** - His power and defence are high. Close attacks are his forte so he is a fighter type. He is poor at magic. Color Menu: Green Hat Blue Hat Emerald Hat Brown Hat Return Tumble (bottom right) HP: ** MP: **** Skill: *** Spirit: *** - Her power is weak but her attack speed is fast. She is also skilled in magic and is an agile type. Color Menu: Red Dress White Dress Pink Dress Blue Dress Return After selecting character and color you type in your name. The message at the bottom of the top screen says, "Please decide on the character's name". The button at the top right corner says 'erase' and the two at the bottom read 'decided' and 'return'. After pushing start or the 'decided' button it will show you the 'decided' button again to double check. Also at this time the 'return' button is still in the bottom right corner. Selecting 'decided' the game will start with the opening story. ******************************************************************************* 2.b) The Beginning ******************************************************************************* The opening story rolls and bunch of text is displayed on the screen. The general idea of everything is that you are being told a story. The story takes place in a very different time when the Mana Tree was still being born. It's a story of the island of Illusia, which is located in the middle of the world at the center of the ocean. Of course on that island the Mana Tree rose and grew. I am not sure of the exact meaning of some of the text but its just a general overview saying that the story is about the Mana Tree, a war for Mana, and the holy sword. After the opening story you will see your character with one of the village members. After that go talk to Tis. She will say that she is going to the Mana Tower and that she wants you to give a memo to Mody, which you will receive when the conversation ends. Go in the house that Mody is in and a conversation will start with him. You will tell him that you have a memo from Tis for him. Then Watts will come in. Everyone exchanges greatings and goes through a little small talk then Watts shows everyone a gem. Then they say something about how the gems(I think) havent been seen since the natural disaster and they are wondering why they are appearing now. Then there is an earthquake. Pete runs in saying that there is trouble at the stone monument(the stone with the tree picture). Mody asks what the problem is and Pete replys that they should hurry and come see. You go to the stone to find it glowing. It then stops glwoing and cracks. Mody asks what in the world is going on. Watts asks what that white light before it cracked was. Then Nana comes running up and says that there is trouble at the Mana Tower. They ask what the problem is and she replys that there was a white light at the tower. She then goes to say that she was able to esacape but Tis is still inside the tower alone. Your character then steps up and says that they will go and save her. At which point Watts tells you to wait and gives you the Mana Flame(the gem box) and a gem. Mody then gives you a magic rope which will allow you to leave the level at any time. You then thank both of them, and they tell you to be careful. At this point you are almost ready to go to the first level. But before you do, first bring up the menu and equip the gem that you were given. Then walk out of the town. As you go to walk out of the town you are told to wait by a voice. You turn around to see the Mana Spirits. They ask if you are going to the Mana Tower and say that they are uneasy about the tower right now. They then say that you shouldnt go allow, but you reply that there isnt anyone else to save her. After that they tell you that they will lend you their power and ask you to choose who you want to take. The first boss is a wind and fire element so either Undine or Gnome are good choices if you want to use a lot of magic. But in my oppinion Shade is the best overall. You will then be brought to the world map. Select the Mana Tower which is the sparkling dot on the bottom screen and chose to enter the level. ******************************************************************************* 2.c) Mana Tower ******************************************************************************* ______ |Area 1| Drop of Light: In a pot Spring of Light: n/a When you enter the tower you say that you are not sure what you should do. The Mana spirit you chose then appears and you say that you are worried about Tis and you have to hurry. After that a set of monsters appear and your character says, "There are monsters in a place like this....?" Your spirit then goes on to tell you how to attack. It say to press the A button three times in a row, which will let you combo with the sword. Now that you know how to use your sword go and kill all of the rabbites that have appeared. After killing all of the rabbites and moving further in the area, archers will appear and you will learn that you can hold down A in order to deflect projectiles. Once the text is done go and finish off the archers. When that is done and you move a little further you character will start talking again and will tell you about the gauge at the bottom right of the screen. As you attack or get attacked it will fill up. Once it is full push select to actvate FEVER. During FEVER you will attack faster with the sword and you can use weapons special attacks. To do this you have to hold down the attack button until you glow and then release it. When that text is done you will see a group of slimes appear, at which point the spirit will show up again and tell you about using magic. When its done finish off the slimes. If you want to get to the treasure chest behind the large pots then you will have to hit the slimes into the pots so that they break. Once the slimes are gone the spirit will come out one last time and tell you about the Drop of Light and the Spring of Light and that in order to progress from one area to the next you have to find the Drop of Light and carry it to the Spring of Light, and once you are there you hit A and you will move on. When the spirit is done, finish off any enemies that appeat and break the small pots to search for the Drop of Light. When you find it bring it to the spring and go to the next area. ______ |Area 2| Drop of Light: In a pot Spring of Light: n/a As you start this area the spirit will show up yet again and tell you that you can press the Y button to use a healing item, which at this point in the game is a manmaru drop which will heal 30HP. It also tells you that you can press L to change the item that you use. After that is says something about how it would probably be a good idea to use multiplay and borrow you friend's power. And also it says that the rules for multiplay are a little different than single player. Now that all the explainations are finished fight your way to where the spring is and break the pots along the way to search for the drop. Again if you want to get the treasue behind the large pot you have to knock the sword enemies into the pot to break it. ______ |Area 3| Drop of Light: In a pot Spring of Light: n/a Dont worry about the moving obstacle that blocks you from the treasue, as you work your way around the level you will be able to get to them from the other side. -Area 4- Drop of Light: One of the sword enemies holds it Spring of Light: n/a If you want to get passed the moving obstacles in this area there are two things you can do. The first it to stand in front of one for a few minutes and keep attacking it, it has 90HP. Or sometimes if you push two barrels in front of the object and then knock the barrels foward with the third strike of the sword, the barrels will block the object from moving and allow you to pass by without having to destory the object. ______ |Area 4| Boss Fight When you first appear you will find Tis and you ask her what happened. Tis says somethings and then asks where she is, to which you reply, "This is the Tower of Mana". Tis then asks if you are joking. Afterwards a light appears and a large fire bird(combination of fire and wind God Beasts from previous Mana games) appears. You tell Tis to move away, she hesitates, and you tell her that you will be fine, Tis then tells you to be careful and the fight begins. At first there is nothing you can do to hurt the bird. All you have to do is avoid it and hit it eight times, at which point the game will cut to some dialogue where you say, "Its no good. My attacks will never hurt it! This thing, what is it?" Then a cut to a short video scene of a sword falling from the sky. You say, "Wha, What is that...." *the sword glows* "Its(the bird) protective power has disappeared, something can probably hurt it. Alright, lets go!" And the battal begins again, only now you can actaully hurt the boss. So just finish off the fight by attacking it when you can. _________ |Aftermath| Tis asks you if you are okay and you tell her that you are fine and then ask what in the world that sword is and where the thing came from. The sword glows and both you and Tis sheild you eyes. You then ask what in the world that was just then. You then check if Tis is okay, to which she says she is and thanks you for asking. After that you hear a man's voice laughing and saying that that was fun to watch. He says something about the sword being sent to you from the Mana Goddess. Then he goes to take it and it forces him away. I believe after this he is saying something about the Mana Tree's power being sealed and that there is nothing standing in his way. Tumble then asks what he is talking about. Then there is more talking but I am really not sure exactly what it is about. The guy then leaves and things start to shake. You character asks what is going on and Tis tells you to look over there. After that you end up back in town and are talking to Tis, Watts, and Mody about the sword. Watts says that there is no mistaking that this is the holy sword. Then you go to Mody about what happened at the tower and about the man that showed up. At some point after that Mody say that this cant be and that it is just like the event that happened 10 years ago. Then some more talking that I am not sure of. Watts leaves and you ask Mody what you should do. He says something to the effect of, "The sword has choosen you so I ask that you go and invetigate that light in the three places, Lorimar, Jadd, and Topple. Afterwards he gives you a flail and tell you that it was something that he used when he was young. And he then asks you if you want to practice using it. Select the top option to practice and the bottom option not to. Finally before you leave, you and Tis exchange a few words and she tells you to believe in the sword. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Things to do /////////////////// Now that you are free to check out the town, walk up to the top of the screen and go talk to Tis. She says that she is always thankful for your effort and tells you that if you want to change the spirit with you, you just have to talk to her. Then go into the house on the left and talk to Seamoon. She will just introduce herself and tell you that if you have any qeustions about things she can teach you. Then go over and talk to Balbo. He, and the other two there, Bilbo and Bulru, all introduce themselves and tell you that they conduct gem research. They also tell you that they sell gems. After that the menu for Balbo shows up, just choose to exit and then talk to him a second time. This time he will give you the FEVER Slot gem. Now just go and finish off by talking to Anaguma and Millionaire. Both people will just introduce themselves to you. While you are in that house you will also find Mody on the second floor. Talk to him and he will ask if you are going to Topple to which you reply with the question of what means you are going to get there by. He then gives you the wind drum and tells you that if you use it you can Flammie. You ask what Flammie is and Mody tells you to go to the balcony and try useing it to see for yourself. Then it the game cuts to a short video sequence where Flammie appears and afterwards you are on the overworld map with Flammie. The next level also appears, but for now choose to go back to town because there is a side quest you can go on. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Side Quest /////////////////// Go back and talk to Tis, when her menu shows up choose to talk to her(the bottom option). She will tell you that ever since that day when the light came to the tower it has been filled with monsters. And because of that she is not able to go inside to pray. So she asks you if you could get rid of the monsters in the tower so she will be able to go there and be close to the Mana Goddess when she prays. A menu then shows up, select the top choice to accept the side quest. Then it is off to the Mana Tower. *Mana Tower: Tis's Side Quest* - 4 Areas - Each area already has the Spring of Light showing since you dont have the hammer to break the large pots. - As for the Drop of Light, there one of three ways to get it per area: 1. Kill all the enemies, or all of a certain kind of enemy 2. Break the small pot that it is hidding in 3. In a treasure chest As for which place it will be, I can't say because all side quest and job areas are randomly generated. It does however tell you where it can be found on the menu at the bottom screen. Of course I dont have Japanese on my computer so I cant show you what each one looks like. So the best thing to do is take notice of where you got the drop on each area and what the Japanese text was when you found it. Either write it down or just memorize what it looks like, this way you will be able to quickly know where to find the drop without having to check every possible place. After finishing the four areas you will go back to the village and tell Tis that you cleared out the Tower. She thanks you and is greatful that she can go pray in the tower and she gives you a ring which puts your intelligence up to 50. ******************************************************************************* 2.d) Start Lake ******************************************************************************* If you followed everything up until now, you should have gotten the wind drum by talking to Mody in the house on the left. If you havent done so, the do it now. Then when you are on the map screen hit the button in the bottom right corner which will zoom you out to the rest of the map. Then just chose the dot in the top left of the screen. When you enter the level all your character does is make a remark that would be similar to saying, "So its(the place you were going) here....". ______ |Area 1| Drop of Light: In a treasure chest Spring of Light: n/a Right at the beginning of the level there is a chest that on the other side of a set of spikes, that is where the drop of light is. Just use the powered up flail to open the chest and then retrieve the drop without having to lose health by crossing the spikes. ______ |Area 2| Drop of Light: In a treasure chest Spring of Light: n/a ______ |Area 3| Drop of Light: In a treasure chest Spring of Light: n/a ______ |Area 4| Drop of Light: A monter holds it Spring of Light: n/a Kill the pink slug thing in the middle of the area to get the drop. ______ |Area 5| Boss Fight When it first starts your character says, "This is the place. There is no mistake. It is the same as the Mana Tower. What is this? This pulsing power..." The boss appears. "It is transforming! Again it is protected by that strange power! That time at the Mana Tower the holy sword caused that power to disappear but... If that is the case... Holy Sword, lend me your power!" After that the sword glows and the strange power is drained. Then your character says, "Yeah! The holy sword really responded to me! Okay, lets go!" To beat this boss you first have to kill the things floating around the center. To do so you have to pull them away from the center eye by using the powered up flail. Once you pull them all off and kill them you have to start attacking the center eye. Or if you take too long pulling off the floating things then at some point the will all separate from the center and start attacking, at which point you would probably want to attack them before going for the center eye. But be careful though because after a little bit they will explode. If you are not able to kill the boss fast enough when you are at the stage where you are attacking the center then it will summon up more of the floating pieces and you will have to start over until you beat it. _________ |Aftermath| When the battle is over the face of a tree will appear in a glowing circle and will introduce himself as Trent. He says that the power that is creating these creatures is coming form mana. To which you ask what the meaning of this is and why it is the power of mana. And then Trent says that he doesn't know the deatails of the situation. He then says something about the the power of mana running wild and the world being broken down and gives you a tree branch which he says will open the path. You then go back to the town and explain all of this to Mody and Tis. Mody says something like he is going to investigate it more or he wants to investigate it more. Then he tells you he has something for you and gives you the bow and you thank him. Then he says some other things which I think are just general things about how the bow can be used. And then he asks you if you want to train with it, the top option is yes and the bottom answer is no.
