AMSOFT Fruit Machine FAQ 0.5 ============================ Submitted by Gunbladelad77 (2009) --------------------------------- CONTENTS ======== 1. Overview 2. Controls 3. Prize rates 4. Reel List 5. Strategies 6. COpyrights & Contact Overview ======== Fruit machine was one of the launch games for the Amstrad CPC464. The CPC itself came with a load of Amsoft titles, so that simply buying the computer would give you over 20 games. Fruit Machine was one of them. It is, by & large, a very simple fruit machine sim, written entirely in the CPC's built-in BASIC language. The basic aim of the game is to spend £5, and try to make as much as possible back. Get more than a £5 return, and you'd be on the score board. The unique features of the fruit machine, were the possibility of using "Winner Spinners", where every spin would be a guaranteed random win, and the ability to nudge both up and down. Now that emulation of the Amstrad CPC series of computers is legitimate (A big Thank You to Sir Alan Sugar for making this possible), many people are able to run their classic Amsoft games that may have been long-gone due to wear & tear. The controls ============ SPACEBAR = Spin reels G = Gamble. You can gamble Nudges & Winner Spinners. Nudges can go up to unlimited, and Winner Spinners can reach a maximum of 5. N = Exchange win for nudges W = Exchange win for "Winner Spinners" (available from 50p win upwards) C = Collect/Cancel 1/2/3 = Nudge reels down (Also HOLDs the reels) 4/5/6 = Nudge reels up Prize rates =========== All wins are on the centre-line, with the exception being the Stars - As long as they are onscreen, they will register as a winning line. Watch out for these when nudging. Many a Jackpot has been lost thanks to these appearing on screen. Lose Gamble = 10p win Any 2 Symbols = 20p win 3 Stars = 30p win 3 Lemons = 50p win 3 Plums = 70p win 3 Pounds = £1 win 3 grapes = £1.50 win 3 bars = £2 win 3 bells = £2 win 3 sevens = £3 win (Jackpot) The Reels ========= This list was actually included in the original tape insert with the game. It is largely here for completeness, in addition to the fact many people will be emulating the game now. Plum Plum Bar Pound Star Star Star Seven Bell Lemon Lemon Lemon Grape Bell Plum Plum Star Bar Pound Bar Pound Bar Lemon Lemon Plum Grape Bar Lemon Lemon Star Pound Bell Bell Plum Bar Grape Seven Pound Plum Lemon Seven Seven Plum Lemon Lemon Lemon Bell Star Grape Plum Bell Star Grape Pound Pound Lemon Grape Bell Bar Lemon Plum Plum Bar Pound Star Star Strategies ========== Always try at least 1 gamble before you go for nudges - you'll get more if successful, and if not, you have a good chance of getting a Hold, and trying again. When nudging, simply look at what you have available, and try to work out (via the reel list) how many nudges you need for the MINIMUM win. Don't get greedy! Watch out when reading the middle reel, as the sequence "Seven, Lemon, Bell" occurs twice on it. Even though it seems random, the game has already decided BEFORE you press a button whether a gamble is going to work or not. If you're playing via emulation, it can be abused to cheat an insanely high score via save states. My advice is not to do this, as it will lessen your enjoyment of the game.
