Version History 12. Contact, Copyright and terms of use ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X. Introduction / Scope LORD2 is a multi-user DOOR game for Bulletin Board Systems that was released in 1991. It differs drastically from its predecessor, the original Legend of the Red Dragon (and LORD Tournament Edition), in that it's a top overhead RPG with sprite based movements, and not a menu driven game. It was created by Seth Able Robinson (www.rtsoft.com), who later sold the rights off to Metropolis Gameport (www.gameport.com). Due to the humor, and the map editor included, this game is in many ways the spiritual predecessor to Seth's later stand-alone RPG masterpiece DINK SMALLWOOD, although DINK is an action RPG - not turnbased. If you find yourself enjoying this game, or enjoy action-RPGs, I would highly recommend visiting Seth's website. Dink is available for Windows and several mobile platforms (iPhone and iPad, Android, and WebOS phones and tablets.) The scope of this guide is to walk you through all the quests available in LORD2. To help you do that, this guide lists the main objectives (chapter 1), lists all the armor, weapons and items available (see Chapter 9), in addition to providing just good old regular "go from point a to point b" instructions. While this guide may give the impression that this game is fairly linear, the quests can actually be completed in any order so I've tried to compartmentalize the quests in to single chapters as much a possible. The chapters are in a level appropriate order for those that are following this guide from beginning to end. For those not following the guide in order, or wish to skip ahead at times, important bits of information are often repeated or cross-referenced through out. As a major point, however, this guide does not vary outside of the main game. That means, the guide does not cover IGMs (in game modules) that may have been installed by the BBS's SYSOP or player (if the game is being ran 'locally' in DOS.) If IGMs are installed, certain locations may be different and certain quests may have different outcomes depending on the IGM. For those unclear as to what an 'in game module' is, it's basically an add-on or expansion pack. Also, some things may differ slightly depending on the game's settings set by the SYSOP. For instance, if 'CLEAN' mode is turned on, then you will not be able to buy hookers in PortTown. To see your game settings, when in the game map (walkabout mode) press ? (question mark) and choose 'View Game Settings' from the menu that appears. This screen will tell you the game's settings in addition to listing any IGMs that are installed. If you are a SYSOP, or running the game locally, and wish to change these settings, you may do so by editing the RULES.REF file located in your LORD2 installation directory. Good luck, and happy adventuring! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Game Objectives: Choosing between Good & Evil *This section is semi-spoiler free!* In LORD2, you have a choice: either to finish the game 'good' or 'evil.' However, once you're done, you may continue onward in order to finish the game the other way around. Both main quests reap 500 Quest Points and 10,000 experience. If you intend on finishing only one main quest, the GOOD quest is the far more rewarding one as it gives you a far more useful item than the EVIl quest does. Listed here are the main game objectives needed to start these 2 MAIN quests. For instructions on finishing Good see Chapter 5.19, and for instructions on finishing Evil see Chapter 5.20. Objectives for finishing GOOD: * 100 alignment * Skystaff completed (all 4 parts collected) Once these Objectives have been completed, see Chapter 5.19 for instructions on completing this main quest. Objectives for finishing Evil: * -100 alignment * 100 Quest Points Once these Objectives have been completed, see Chapter 5.20 for instructions on completing this main quest. For more information on Alignment, read onward to chapter 2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Alignment Alignment is what makes you GOOD or EVIL. Positive numbers are GOOD, while negative numbers are BAD. You start out the game as neutral at 0 (that's zero) alignment. Through out this game, the decisions that you make during several random encounters will either raise or lower your Alignment stat. As a general rule, "most good" decisions will raise your alignment by 1, while most "Evil" decisions will lower your alignment by 2. Listed below are these alignment affecting encounters and their outcomes based on your decisions. Little Girl: In the fields located South of Stonebrook ([South of Stonebrook], [Greba's Cave],etc.), you may encounter a little lost girl. Agree to help her find her way to her mother and she will be added to your inventory. If you return her, you will receive 50 gold and 10 experience points. You may also sell her to a Pawn Shop for 25 gold. Additionally if you want to get CREEPY about it, from the Inventory Screen you may choose to talk to her which gives you the option to 'KILL HER.' Killing her yields -1 alignment points. Event - Someone's Being mugged: This event appears only in Bonetown. A poor man is being robbed by a thief. Choose to 'Defend the poor man' and receieve +1 alignment points. Choose to 'Help out the thief' and you will go down 2 alignments and receive a random amount of money in the sum of a few hundred gold (usually 300 to 500). This event appears quite frequently, so hanging around Bonetown is a great way to get that alignment up or down quickly. Hector the Parrot: Found in the cave southwest of Stonebrook ([Greba's Cave]), this parrot will earnyou 2 quest points and 20 alignment when you set him free. To do so, talk to him in your inventory and choose 'Set Him Free.' For more information on Hector the Parrot, see Chapter 5.5. Event - Aid a Fellow Traveler: While along any of the fields and roads outside of the Stonebrook area, you may "hear an injured person nearby" and be asked if you wish to "investigate." Choosing "yes" will give you 3 options. "Help the man out" and you will receive 1 alignment. "Beat him up and take his money," and you will receive -2 alignment and a random amount of money. Choosing to "Leave" will not affect your alignment. Violation or a Right, you decide: While along any of the fields and roads outside of the Stonebrook area, you may get this message: "A woman is being raped by two men. Interrupt them? [Y/N]." Choose "Y" (yes), and you will receive the option to "Help the woman and kill the men" or "join in the fun." If you are sufficiently leveled (at least level 8) with a Crystal Shard or better equipped, you will stand a fairly good chance of defeating the men if you so choose to. Doing so yields 1 alignment point. Choosing to "join in" yields -1 points, and leaving affects nothing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Some people You might meet on the Road Along the way there are a few important people that you might meet at random. These people might want to sell you things, and they may even want to kill you These people are... The Bounty Hunters: Although this encounter is quite rare, you may come across a Bounty Hunter from time to time. If you have a bounty on your head, they will approach you, whereupon you'll be given the option to fight or pay off the bounty. However, if your nose is clean they'll pass you by. Bounties are set by players at the Bounty Hunter Office in FlagCity. They can be premptively paid off their as well. To see if there's a bounty on your head, ask the bartender in Bonetown. Traveling Folk: These people on other hand are your friends. Talk to them and they will fully heal you. The Dragontooth Clan: Whenever "You hear a lot of footsteps coming", you know it's them! They will warn you about the red dragon. You can insult them or just listen to them. Additionally, if your alignment is -10 or less, you will be given an option about "recruitment." This option will take you to their island. Once recruited, this option turns to "head to the castle." For more information, see the spoiler filled chapter 5.20. A hooded figure: This shady guy approaches you at random. He has things for sale that you need to succeed. For $100 he will sell you a piece of the Skystaff. There are 4 pieces in all to be had - however, which piece he has for sale at the time is random. The pieces are the Skystaff Base, Skystaff Middle, Skystaff Top, and the Skystaff Gemstone. Make sure to always have at least 100 gold on you when traveling, just incase you run in to him and he has a piece for sale that you don't already have. Dark Robed Priest: This priest will try to sell you a "traveling potion" for 500 gold. This potion will transport you to one of ten locations at random. See chapter 7 for a complete list of these locations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Lodging and Property for Sale If you're on a server with other players, unless you're absolute top dog, the possibility of being killed by other players will be an issue of concern for you. You most certainly don't want to log back in to find yourself back at the beginning in [Mother's House] with less gold and experience than you had the day before. That's why you need to pay attention to your 'Turns left' (listed in your stats), and start heading towards some sort of safe area when that number gets low. The "safe" areas that will be accessible to most, if not all, players are the Lodging areas. If you have a WORLD MAP, you can see where all the areas with LODGING are. All the towns and major cities in the world have some form of lodging or another, EXCEPT for Stonebrook. To stay "safe" around there, you'll need to make your way to the TREEHOUSE. The Treehouse is explained in Chapter 5.4 By default, unless you (if playing Locally) or the BBS SYSOP have changed the game's settings, players under level 15 can not be attacked inside lodgings. Players level 15+ can be killed there by other players. Game settings may be checked by pressing ?. Please note that LODGINGS are different from Property. As for property, there are several dwellings for sale through out the land. Each dwelling affords you a relatively safe point to log off at. In addition to each dwelling having its own unique perks, all dwellings allow you to set up a password system if you wish to allow your friends inside. However, be warned: you can be killed inside your keep, NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL YOU ARE. The 4 places for sale are: * Runion Keep for 3000 gold. This keep is discussed in Chapter 5.10 * Sosen Inn for 20,000 gold. It is discussed in Chapter 5.12 * Castle Coldrake for 20,000 gold. It is discussed in Chapter 5.13 * Wizard's Keep for 40,000. It is discussed in Chapter 5.17 So keep these things in mind, and enjoy the journey! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. The Main Game Now that you know what to expect, you're ready to embark on the ANSI filled journey of a lifetime. Good luck! 5.1 Mama's Pie The game begins at home in [Mother's House]. There is 5 gold on the table in the room below you; you'll want to take that. Now go talk to your mother in the far right room (she's that purple smiley.) She will ask you to fetch some berries to make her a pie. Tell her that you will do so. If you talk to her again, you'll be given the choice to "strangle her." If you choose to strangle her, she won't die, however you will lose 1 alignment point. Now leave the house. On the EAST (not WEST as the game's built-in "Getting Started" guide says) side of the screen, there's is a berry patch inside a circle of trees. Touch it to pick some berries. Take them inside to mother, and she will further instruct you to fetch some milk. Milk is for sale at the grocery store [Inside Stonebrook]. To get there go 1 screen WEST from [East Stonebrook Village] which is where you are now (your location on the blue bar at the bottom of the screen.) Enter The Town of Stonebrook and purchase your milk for $1. Go ahead and buy 2 of them at this time, because you'll need it later on. Take the milk back to your mother and she will receive a Berry Pie in your inventory. This item may be eaten to recover some HP, however it's best you hang out to it for a later quest (see chapter 5.3) - although, if you do eat it, Mama will make you another one if you ask her to. Also to note is that you may fetch more berries and equip them as a weapon. They give you +1 attack. 5.2 Strange Cabin From [Stonebrook], go 2 screen south to the [Strange Cabin]. If you get into any fights, just RUN. Inside the cabin (that yellow and turquoise thing) aka [Turgon's House] you'll meet Turgon. Talk to him. And after you're done talking with him, talk to him again and ask about Greentree. He'll refuse you. Offer him your Berry Pie that you obtained earlier. You'll gain a quest point and the ability to hear why Turgon was kicked out of Greentree. You listen to his sob story about how his good name was defamated, and agree to clear it. (see chapter 5.9 for how to clear it.) You may have noticed a hidden room at the bottom of the screen. To access this room, go to the 3rd tile from the top left corner. Hold LEFT until you stop. Now hold DOWN until you stop, and then hold RiIGHT until you stop. Then DOWN until you stop, then LEFT again. On this table is a 'HEAVY COAT.' Equip it. Now find your way back and leave [Turgon's House]. 5.3 Old Hag's Brew Wander around the fields south of Stonebrook fighting. However, don't bother doing anything other than running when encountering Farmer Joe, or the Armored Hedge Hog until you have a better weapon (at least the RUSTY DAGGER from the Pawn shop [Inside Stonebrook]), because while the HEAVY COAT makes you practically invincible, your attacks won't do anything to them. If at anytime you find yourself low on HP, go back to The Town of Stonebrook and visit the Healers. Additionally, if you find yourself low on daily moves (less than 1000 or so left), you can take refuge in the Tree House. This area is discussed in chapter 5.4. While wandering, you may come across a Little Girl. If this happens, just agree to take her home and keep her in your inventory for later. Alternately, you may KILL her (see chapter 2). Keep fighting until you've encountered the ANGRY HEN. You will receive a CHICKEN EGG. Eggs can be collected and sold for 5 gold each at any pawn shop through out the world. You need this egg though, so head to the NorthWest-most part of the fields located south of Stonebrook - (from [Strange Cabin] you'll go One screen west to [Greba's Field], then one screen North.) Go inside the gray structure where you'll meet the Old Woman. Tell her "what's up" and offer her your milk and your egg for her brew. Then ask to taste her brew. 5 HP will be added to your maximum HP stat. Your max HP should now be 15. Now leave and enter the building again. You should be given a choice to ask about 'Hector.' If nothing about Hector appears, just keep entering and re-entering until it does. 5.4 The Tree House At this point you may be running low on daily moves. You will want to avoid running out of moves while out in the open, as this puts you at risk of being killed by other players. Until you are past the first part of the game and can get to a town with lodging, you will want to end your days at The Tree House located in the [Village Forest]. You can get there by going 1 screen North of [East Stonebrook Village] then going 1 screen West from [NorthEast Stonebrook Village]. To get inside you'll need the daily password. You can obtain the password through the random event of hitting a bird with a stone. This event occurs [South of Stonebrook], as well as West of Stonebrook along [Neb's Road]. If you hit the bird, it will fall to the ground and you'll find a note attached to its leg. The message (random nonsense, usually containing a player or monster's name) will appear on the screen. Remember this message as you'll need to type it in EXACTLY as it appears when entering the Tree House. Once inside the tree house, you should be fairly safe. The Tree House is treated as lodging, so players under a certain level are OK there. See Chapter X for more information on Lodging and its benefits. In addition to just hanging out, there are a couple things you can do here as well. There is a message board that you can write on, and you can talk to the NPC (non-player character) here and tell him the names of other players that you wish to ban from the Treehouse. Cool, huh? 5.5 Finding Hector Collect at least 50 gold. Then... From [Stonebrook], head West to [Neb's Road]. If you have talked to the people in town, you may have heard that there's a magic tree. Which, of course, there is! There is a magic tree. It's the purple tree near the road. Touch it, and you will transported to the OTHER purple tree near the top of the screen that looked to be inaccessible. Take the path to the north. You'll find yourself at [Rocky Road]. Head on inside Jack's Diner. Once inside, read the sign at the door that reads, "Please seat yourself" then sit at any of the 4 SMALL tables encircling the BIG table in the center of the room. Look at the menu if you like, then order the 'Whole Gloworm.' Choose to 'Put him in your pocket'. Now leave and head to [Greba's Field] located West of the [Strange Cabin], and go inside the cave there. You'll find that it's very dark in the [Condemned Cave]. Open up your inventory and eat the Gloworm. The paths in the cave should now be lit. Follow the path to the exit at the top of the screen. Be sure to avoid the snakes (those weird green things) along the way - they take away 5 HP if you touch them. This next part is the [Inner Condemned Cave]. Here you will find a chest on the left containing an Ancient Flute, a chest on the right containing money, and a bird's nest in the middle. The bird's nest should contain a Parrot if the Old Hag mentioned Hector to you (chapter 5.3). You will receive 3 quest points for finding the parrot. After collecting each of these items and gold, open up your inventory and talk to the Parrot. You will learn that he is Hector, and that the old woman is actually a witch that cast a spell on him. You'll be given the option of setting him free. If you set him free, you will receive 2 additional quest points, and 20 alignment points. Or, if you bring him back to the Old Hag, 2 points will be added to your 'Total Attack'. It's strategically best to set him free, especially if you're on the GOOD track. If you've chosen to set him free, don't bother going back to the old hag. Congratulations, you've accomplished all that there is to do in the Stonebrook area. For now, anyway. We won't be coming back here until we've found a way to clear Turgon's name (covered in chapter 5.9). Go ahead and collect at least 50 gold and then head to [Neb's Road]. If you can swing it, at this point you might also want to drop 20 gold for the WORLD MAP at the Pawnshop [Inside Stonebrook] before heading to [Neb's Road]. The World Map can be accessed by pressing M. * NOTE: PAST THIS POINT, MAKE SURE TO PURCHASE NEEDED SKYSTAFF PARTS FROM * * THE 'HOODED FIGURE' DISCUSSED IN CHAPTER 3. YOU'LL NEED ALL 4 PARTS TO * * COMPLETE THE SKYSTAFF THAT'S NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE GAME AS GOOD. HE * * APPEARS AT RANDOM ALONG AREAS AWAY FROM TOWNS. * 5.6 Ma's Boarding House With at least 100 gold in your pocket, (or 50 gold plus the little girl) head West on [Neb's Road]. At the end of the road you'll run in to Neb. Neb will ask you for 50 gold. Just pay up - don't try to fight him yet, or else he'll clobber you. You can come back later after you've leveled up a bit and have bought better equipment. Contine West, going past the [Tree Elf Highway], until you arrive at [Greentree]. Enter the town from the Right side. Once you are [Inside Greentree], go inside that big eyesore with the yellow roof labeled Ma's Boarding House. Alternatively, if you have the little girl in your inventory, go 2 screens WEST and enter The Red Dragon Inn. Inside you'll see a purple smiley sitting at one of the tables. Talk to it - it's the girl's mother. For returning the girl you receive 50 gold and 10 experience points. Now go back 2 screens EAST to Ma's Boarding House. Inside the lobby of [Ma's Boarding House] you'll see Ma behind the counter. Tell her that you want a room. Now pay the lady and walk upstairs. Once upstairs, go to the top left room where you'll find Ma's daughter, Elle. Elle will tell you about her pregnancy, asking if you will break the news to her mom (Ma) for her. Agree to do so, then go down stairs and exit from behind the counter, and then talk to Ma again. You'll now be given the option of telling her about her daughter. Doing so will upset Ma, and set you on the quest to deliver a letter to Uncle Edward and Laura. (don't open the letter!) * Protip: If you have a WORLD MAP, Uncle Edward and Laura's house will * * appear on it now. * Head EAST to leave the city walls. Now, head 2 screens SOUTH, 1 screen WEST, then 1 screen SOUTH again. Their house is that little shack on the right. Go inside where you'll be greeted by Laura who fetches Edward. Avoid talking about Edward's breath, and you'll receive a charm point. After delivering the letter, agree to escort Edward and Laura to Greentree. If you encounter any monsters along the way to or fro, I suggest running unless you've upgraded your weapons and/or leveled up at the Training Center(see 5.7) already. Fights are infrequent along the path however, and this journey is short, and the monsters are weak if they do hit you, so don't worry too much about dying around here. Head back to [Ma's Boarding House] in Greentree, talk to Ma, and receive your Quest points along with 2000 gold. NICE! After completing this quest, Uncle Edward and Laura decide to move to Greentree. They can be found inside the little checkered house near Ma's Boarding house (there in the southeast corner of the screen.) However, it's not necessary to visit them, unless you just want to. Go back to Ma's Boarding House anytime you're low on daily moves to insure you don't get killed by another player. For more information lodging see Chapter 4. Now it's time to explore the city of Greentree. 5.7 Let's Explore Greentree Greentree is broken up in to six sectors as shown in the diagram below. Exits are located in sector 4 and 6. Although this chapter is more or less a run-down of the city, this chapter also does include VITAL information for completing some main Quests, so do read thoroughly. +-+-+-+ |1|2|3| +-+-+-+ exit=|4|5|6|=exit +-+-+-+ Sector 1: Here you'll find the sheepherder and the HEALERS building. There is also a magical rock that will talk to you; sometime he'll reveal secrets to you (you may only talk to him once a day.) Sector 2: Abdul's Armor and The Training Center can be found here. The Training Center is where you will go to level. Go there if you haven't already. Master Barak will randomly assign a monster for you to fight if you have enough experience points. Otherwise he will tell you how much more experience you need to level. If you win the fight you will gain 5 hit points, 2 muscle (attack) and 1 dodge (defense) added to your totals; you will also be fully healed. You can keep leveling at the Training Center as long as you have the experience to do so, until you lose. Once you lose, you will have to wait until the next day to try again. Also, losing leaves you with 1 hp so you'll want to go to sector 1 and heal afterward. While at the Training Center make sure to make small talk with Barak. This part is a crucial step in the quest to clear Turgon's name. Go ahead and buy the best armor you can afford at Abdul's. Sector 3: This part includes a Church, a Teal House, and Gray house. The Church isn't necessary to visit. In fact it's a waste of your money. Visit it only to hear some social commentary on organized religion. The Teal House on the other hand, you'll want to visit. If you have at least 18 or 19 (may be as low as 15 though - just keep trying until it works) Quest Points, you may break in. This house is Barak's house, and inside you will Barak's Diary. See Chapter 5.9 for more on this part of the Quest to clear Turgon's name. As for the Gray House, waltz on inside where you will find a Travel Pass inside the toilet. You'll need this bad boy for later. Sector 4: The Red Dragon Inn and the bank are located here. At the Red Dragon Inn you may talk to the bartender to take on Quests (conduct business) in addition to cashing in your gems. However, don't bother talking to him if you're not at least level 2, because he will ignore you. You may also talk to the woman at the table to return any of her daughters that you have come across in the fields. Sector 5: King Arthur's Weapons and the town Scribe are located here. For $10, you may add a custom announcement to the 'Daily Happenings' that appears when users first login (or press D) at the Scribe. Go ahead and buy the best weapon you can afford at King Arthur's. Sector 6: And of course, this sector is where Ma's Boarding House is located. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.8 Random Quests Everyday you have 4 opportunities to make deliveries for different NPCs. The NPCs that offer quests are the Bartender in Greentree, Smithy in Porttown, Nickabrick in Flagcity, Selena in Bonetown, Basil in Sosen Village, and King Corin in Arrisville. Don't bother making a delivery to Arrisville if you have negative alignment, as King Corin will refuse to see you. Quest destinations and rewards are randomly generated, however destinations will be to one of the 6 characters mentioned above. For completing a Quest in the same day, you will receive a bonus. Bonuses are either a Muscle or Dodge point, or a gem. Gems can be cashed in at the Red Dragon Inn - for 3 gems you can buy a potion that will raise your stats (see Chapter XX for info on the Red, Gold, and Silver potions.) In order to break in to Barak's House in Greentree, you'll need to earn more quest points. Go to the Red Dragon Inn and 'conduct business' with the Bartender (if you're already at level 2+). For now, you will only want to ONLY accept Quests that to Smithy in Porttown (and the Bartender in Greentree, if you're accepting a quest from Smithy.) At this point, you are too lacking in funds and armor/weaponry to accept anything else. Porttown is located 5 screens due North of Greentree. Go to the House O' Fish to talk to Smithy to complete the Quest. Now choose to conduct business with Smithy. Continue to conduct business between Porttown and Greentree until you've run out of daily opportunities. From Smithy, you may also buy a fishing rod for $500(don't buy the fish!). This is an excellent investment! There are several fishing docks spread out across the world, however the first and most accessible one is located just 2 screens due South of Porttown (between there and Greentree - 1 screen North of the Pawnshop) just along the river. Stand at the edge of the dock, walking until you hit the water, and it will ask if you wish to fish. Once all your daily fishing opportunities are over, it will tell you that "the action is over for the day." Come back to Smithy to sell any fish you that you caught; fish can NOT be sold at the pawn shop. Try to save up to visit the Ye Ol' Mart in Porttown, where you can buy the Pirate Hook and the Skull Helmet. These are the best weapons that money can buy for awhile. Additionally, if you need to "rest" for the night (you're low on daily moves) whilein Porttown, you may stay at the Sea Hag Hotel. If 'clean mode' is off, you may encounter prostitues while walking around inside. As for the other locations in town, don't worry about anything else aside from the bank and the healers for now - the Travel Agency and the dock/boat behind the Healers will be covered later on; we're operating on a NEED TO KNOW basis here. ;) Keep performing Random Quests until you've got about 19 total Quest Points under your belt before continuing on to Chapter 5.9. 5.9 Clear Turgon's Name At this point you should have the necessary Quest Points to clear Turgon's name. To figure out if you have enough, go to the Teal House in sector 3 of Greentree and try to break in. If you are unable to break in, do more random quests. Or if you've got a few levels and weapon upgrades under your belt (at least the Crystal Shard), you may go back to [Neb's Road] east of Greentree and beat the up Neb for 5 QP and see if that helps. Otherwise, we'll just beat him up later. Once you've broken inside you will see that there are 6 boxes in the room. There is also an old lady (that smiley face in the bottom left corner), however DO NOT TALK TO HER or else you'll be immediately thrown out and have to try again tomorrow. Inside one of these boxes is Barak's diary. Pick a box, its contents will help you on your way. The box in which Barak's diary is in is randomly decided for each player; so if you guess wrong, you'll be thrown out and have to try another box tomorrow. I've had the most luck starting from top left box, and working my way from there along the top row. Once you've found the Diary, you may head back to [Turgon's House]. You may also read the diary from within in your inventory if you wish. ************************************************************************** * IMPORTANT: If you haven't already, make sure to CHAT with BARAK before * * leaving town. * ************************************************************************** Now, tell Turgon what you've heard. Keep talking to him until you're able to give him the Diary. From there, Turgon's name is clear, you earn a bunch of Quest Points, Turgon is restored as the rightful master of the Training Center, and Goat Boy now lives in the [Strange Cabin] south of Stonebrook that was once Turgon's. Congratulations! Woo. 5.10 Tash's Lair (your first Moonstone) Through out the land there are four hidden moonstones. These magical stones grant you 500 additional daily moves per stone in your inventory, for a grand total of 2000 possible extra moves per day! So you'll want to make sure to find them all. The first and most accessible Moonstone to you at this point is located in [Tash's Lair]. If you are at least level 6 and have the bought the best weapons in Porttown, you should be good to go! To get to Tash's Lair go 1 screen North of Greentree, then head 2 screens West to [Broken path forest]. Here you will see a small keep for sale known as Runion Keep. You may purchase it for 3000 gold. If it's still for sale, I recommend purchasing it if you can! Although it lacks the perks of later buildings for sale, it will keep you safe from other players and has a storage area to stockpile gold in. For more information on properties for sale, see Chapter 4 (recommended if you haven't already.) Now go south to the [Dark Forest Gate]. Go inside the gate, and choosing to 'ignore the warnings' go 1 screen South via the opening of trees on the bottom left of the screen. From here, you should see a path on the left blocked by 3 brown trees. Walk through these trees to go 1 screen WEST. You'll find yourself now on a location called [The Dark Forest]. Notice how it differentiates itself from the rest of the areas (known as [Dark Forest]) by adding a 'The'. A message also appears at the bottom of the screen (before displaying the location name) that says "You feel ... this is a dark and evil place." From here take notice of the clusterf*ck of trees in the center. There is a secret Entrance inside the trees. The entrance is located on the far left of the tree group - try to follow me here: from the bottom (2 light trees and 1 brown tree) count 2 trees up; the entrance is to be found on the far left of this row (a light tree). Walk along this hidden path until you find yourself in [Tash's Lair]. [Tash's Lair] is broken up in to 3 areas on the screen. You'll have to find the various "warp" spots to get to those areas. You start in the middle area. From the first area, exit left to get the 2nd part. Then exit down to get the 3rd and final part (the purple area.) Now here's the tricky part. Do as I say and you'll be fine; however, if you deviate, you risk being teleported back to one of the 2 other parts. walk left 3 times, then up, left, up, then right until you touch the monster. You will now find yourself in a fight with Tash. If you run from the fight, Tash will teleport you to a freakish, multi-colored area. If you find yourself there, try to find your way to the area marked "EXIT" on the far right side of the screen. The exit will teleport you 3 screens WEST of Runion Keep. For defeating Tash you will receive 1,500 gold and 800 experience...and the Moonstone! To exit, just walk down and you'll be back in the 1st (middle) area. You can exit through that upside-down U shaped "rock." Congratulations! Starting tomorrow, you will now have 500 extra moves a day! 5.11 Stonepass Lodge If you haven't already, grab the TRAVEL PASS (chapter 5.7), and head to Porttown. Make sure you have the Pirate Hook and the Skull Helmet from the Ye Ol' Mart here. From Porttown we will be heading to [Stonepass Lodge]. To get there, you will go 4 screens EAST along the beach, followed by 1 screen North. If walking along the beach you encounter the pirates, and they deal you some serious damage then RUN. Proceed to level up in other low danger areas until you are capable of defeating them. The monsters along the screens South of the beach are weaker and provide a fair amount of cash and experience, too. *NOTE: 3 screens South of [Stonepass Lodge] is another fishing dock.* Talk to the man at the gate and show him your Travel Pass to get through. You may enter the Stonepass Lodge. Here you can flirt with girls, buy a meal (the $20 one fully restores your health!) or get a room for 40 gold. When you stay at the Stonepass Lodge, make sure to check all the beds. You will find the 'Mountain Amulet', which will allow you to access through the cave that cuts through the middle of the Snowy Pass located South West of Greentree - these mountains act as a quick short cut between Greentree and Bonetown. This will come in handy later on in the game - however, don't try to wander down there anytime soon until you're closer to beating the game as the monsters in that area are very strong. For now, just make sure to grab the amulet. But that's not entirely the reason I've brought you to this area. I've brought you here to start earning some serious cash and experience in preparation for some later areas in the game. So get ready to spend the next few days (weeks even maybe?) walking along the beach and healing yourself with meals at the Lodge. Exploring the area, 3 screens North of [Stonepass Lodge] you'll find [Stone Beach Bridge]. Here you'll find a soldier blocking the bridge. He wants 200 gold to pass. To pass for free you can give him the APPLE which is located inside of the big green tree infront of the Guard at the [Stonepass Lodge] that checked your passport. ****************************************************************************** * Note: A new apple is required each new day of play that you attempt to * * [Stone Beach Bridge] for free. Luckily, the apple respawns daily at the * * same location. * ****************************************************************************** But don't bother heading North yet unless you have an additional 20,000 gold or are a badass mofo (as the monsters are much harder up there.) The reason you'll want an extra 20,000 gold on you is because there's a pretty sweet castle on sale 4 screens to the North of here. More on this can be found in chapter 5.13 There is also hidden Red Potion North West of here(or SW of Coldrake.) Just head 2 screens North of the soldier on the bridge, and you'll see where the road heads West along the beach. 2 screens West there is a patch of sand (a sand dune?) leading in to the Water. Walk across it to get to a little islet with a single green tree. Inside the tree is the Red Potion (raises max HP by 5.) In the meantime, don't worry about crossing the bridge. Just care about raising 20,000 gold. Also, make sure to keep doing daily quests, and leveling up in Greentree. And you can earn a serious chunk of the needed dough by selling fish to Smithy in PortTown. Once you've raised 10,300 (minimum) to 20,000 gold, head back to PortTown and visit the travel agency. We're heading to Sosen Village! * Note: You may want to delay going on to Sosen Village if Castle Coldrake, * * is available, as another player might snatch it up before you've earned * * another 20,000 gold. * 5.12 Sosen Village * Important: If you -10 alignment, you may want to stow away on the ship in * * PortTown (the ship behind the healers) and buy the items described in this * * chapter in Arrisville instead. However, this chapter does reveal the locale* * of the next MOONSTONE. * You can get to [Sosen Village] by either purchasing a ticket at a Travel agency, or you can get there for free via The Stables if you own Castle Coldrake (see Chaper 5.13). If you're on a quest to deliver something to Basil in [Sosen village], he can be found in the house to the left of the Inn. The Inn (Sosen Inn) is for sale by the way. It costs 20,000. I don't recommend buying it EVER, unless there are a lot of active players on your server. The Inn is broken up in to 2 areas: the lobby on the first floor, and the lodging on the second floor. Also located on the first floor is YOUR private quarters - it's behind a door that no one else can get in to unless you set a password. You can set the set price for lodging (and passwords) by talking to the Innkeeper. By default, the price is set to $200! The reason we are here in Sosen Village is to visit the Store. We are here to get the best weapon and armor available in the game until you are near the end. That's the Spiked Armor and the Twin Swords! At the store you'll want to purchase the Twin Swords and the Spiked Shirt, in addition to a ticket back to Porttown. This will run you 18,000 gold. Buy some potions with your spare dough if you raised the full 20,000. If you only raised 10,300 gold for this trip, you'll want to purchase the Ninja Stars instead of the Twin Swords. You can purchase the Twin Swords on your next visit. * The Ninja Stars can only be bought here. * The Spiked Armor is an unusual item as it can be equipped as either a WEAPON or ARMOR. As Armor it gives you 30 defense, and as a Weapon it adds 50 attack. It is the best armor that you can buy until near the end of the game, however. So we'll Equip the Spiked Armor as ARMOR. The monsters in the area are pretty tough unless you're leveled up in your 10s/20's. Also, if you're feeling particularly lucky today, you may stock up on some potions and head toward the next Moonstone while running away from monsters. I don't recommend this until you're at least level 10 though. The Moonstone is 2 screens North and 3 screens East of [Sosen Village]. Walk on inside the relatively big (you can't miss it) purple tree in the center of the field. You'll find yourself now in the [Weird World]. The Moonstone is on the table in front of you directly under the words "Seth was here too". Head on back to Porttown to gather some gold and leveling (avoiding the areas WEST of PortTown.) Or if you've got 3,000 gold and a bunch of potions you may wish to skip ahead to Chapter 5.14 5.13 Castle Coldrake If you have 20,000 gold you may head back to Castle Coldrake (mentioned earlier in Chapter 5.11 if you need directions). Castle Coldrake is 1 of 2 VERY important properties available for ownership. The other being Wizard's Keep. If Coldrake isn't available, I at the very least strongly urge you to make friends with whoever does own it. The reason for it being so valuable is that it has a STABLE. The stable gives you FREE passage to Sosen Village, PortTown, and Stonepass Lodge. Castle Coldrake also has a Healer that will heal you for FREE. There is also a backdoor that leads to a cave with a table that has some potions that will raise your stats. At this point in the game it may sound tedious to have to travel all the way out to the boonies everytime you want a free pass to Sosenvillage. However, here's a power tip: Once you've fixed your flute at the Music Store (see Chapter 5.14), play "Remember the Present" on it while inside Castle Colddrake, so that you may be warped back here when you play "Remember the Past." This will not only save you A TON of moves and speed up deliveries, it will also save you the headache of worrying about getting to a safe place before you run out of moves, as you can just play the "Past" song once you've ran out. Please note however, that this "power tip" could be used against you Beware of other players who have previously owned the Castle, as well as those that you've invited inside. They may have "remembered" the location as well, and could KILL you in your sleep! Additionally, beware of players that have completed the EVIL quest, as they can easily break in. To see if any players has completed the EVIL quest, bring up the Player Ranking screen (by pressing L); players with a red 'D' by their QUESTS completed stat have completed the Evil quest. In the woods west of Castle Coldrake is where you go to complete the Ghost Ring quest covered much later on in Chapter 5.15 Carry on. 5.14 Repairing the Ancient Flute First you will need to get to the island on which Arrisville is on. There are 3 ways to get there. You can pay 8,000 gold at Travel shop, take the Ferry a few screens north of Sosen Village, or you can travel for free from Porttown if you're Evil. Since it's stupid to pay 8,000 gold, I'll cover the latter 2 options starting with Evil. If you're -10 alignment or less, you may sneak about the ship to the left of the Healers in Porttown. This will provide you passage to Arrisville. Make sure to have at least 1,000 gold either on your person or in the bank for your safe passage back later on. If you're not playing EVIL, you'll need to take the Ferry. Make sure to have at least 3500 gold on hand (for travel tickets and the ferry boat ride, or if you already own Castle Coldrake, then use the stables to get to Sosen to save yourself 1500 gold.) Travel to Sosen Village. From there, go 1 screen West, and 2 North along the path. You'll see a dock on the beach there. Go inside the green building to take the Ferry for 1000 gold. Now you're on ArrisIsland. Head 2 screens South. Note that the monsters on ArrisIsland are pretty hard, so you'll want to do a good bit of running. However, if you're level 20+, you should be fine fighting. By running, even at something as low as level 5 you should be able to make it. If you're coming from [ArrisVille], then leave town and head 2 screen North. Now head WEST until you come to a purple building. This is the Music Shop. Talk to shop keeper inside and ask him to repair your Flute. Then ask him to teach you a couple songs. The two songs you learn are "Remember the Past" and "Remember the Present." The Present song allows you to remember your current location, while the Past song will warp you there. You may only remember 1 location at a time. Play your flute in Castle Coldrake the first chance you get. For now though, head back to Arrisville (3 East, then 2 South.) For $100 you can stay at the INN here. See Chapter 5.15 when you do since staying there initiates a quest. If you haven't already purchased them in Sosen Village, the Twin Swords and Spiked Armor may be picked up at the Store. You may also talk to King Corin in the castle to accept a random quest. However, don't bother if you have a negative alignment as he'll turn you down. So if you're EVIL, don't accept any Quests to Arrisville either. Head back to Castle Coldrake and play your song. If you lack access to Coldrake you may head there anyway to complete the quest in 5.15, or you may skip ahead to Chapter 5.16 5.15 The Ghost Ring Inside the Inn in Arrisville, there is a Ghost. Just walk along the main hall of the Inn until you encounter him. Talk to him (don't fight him!) and he will give you a ring that you will need to return to his corpse. Head to [Castle Colddrake]. From outside the Castle, head 2 screens West, then 1 screen south. There is a dock there. Walk across the dock straight in to the water. You'll be transported inside the cave. Once inside find the corpse. You'll receive 5 Quest points and 5 attack points for returning the ring. 5.16 The Long Path to FlagCity By now, if you've been following this guide and performing your daily (random) quests, you should be ready for this long walk through the Desert. The reason we're trekking our way to FlagCity and not taking a boat is because its a lot cheaper, there's a moonstone along the way, AND you'll make a ton of cash too. So let's go! From PortTown, head 3 screens West. Heading 2 screens South of here, we'll encounter a river, at which you'll find the base of a waterfall. At the very edge of the green grass, you may walk in to the water! Walk through the water and climb up the waterfall. At the very top (1 screen up) you'll find a moonstone. Head back North. Head West along the beach until you encounter a map with a sizable group of ROCKS (those gray upside down U things) at the bottom center of the screen. Go 1 screen South and you'll find a road. Follow the road Westward until it turns South and takes you to a bridge. Cross the bridge, and then head 1 screen South. Go through the rocky pass on the left to find your way to FlagCity. In FlagCity there's a port to travel from, an Apothecary (the black building) to buy healing potions from, a bank, an Inn, a healer's, a City Hall, and The Bounty Office. The Bounty Office is where Nickabrick is if you need to complete a delivery, or wish to start on one. You may also place bounties on other player's heads, view the Bounty List, pay off a bounty, or buy weapons. Not much else to do here. So read on to the next 2 chapters. 5.17 Wizard's Keep West of the rocky path to FlagCity is the river. Follow it Southward until it heads East. You'll soon find the Wizard's Keep. The Wizard's Keep costs 40,000 gold. But is well worth it! Inside you will find a magic wand that can be equipped as a weapon and, more importantly, be used to warp back to the Keep. Upstairs are 3 portals that will Warp you to Greentree, Bonetown, and PortTown. Be careful to go by color of portal, and not the sign infront of it, as they're all mixed up. So for example if a red sign says "Bonetown", then enter the red portal and NOT
the portal infront of the sign.

After purchasing Wizard's Keep (if it's available) you can go ahead and sell
off Castle Coldrake, if you own it.

 5.18 Bonetown

Bonetown is located due south of FlagCity along the beach there. You can't
miss it if you follow the road from there. It's also due WEST of the Snowypass
which leads to/from South of Greentree. On the world map, it's that town all
the way in the bottom left corner.

There's a 500 gold cover charge for GOOD players, and a nominal 10 gold
charge for EVIL players. Don't worry though, you'll make your money back
quite quickly after you walk in.

There are several frequent random events inside Bonetown that will allow you
gain alignment quickly and make a ton of money fast. Just walk the streets
and you'll encounter fights (a guy tries to mug you, and an angry mob), and
an event asking if you want to defend or help mug an old man.

Provided that you have obtained all 4 pieces of the Skystaff (if going for
GOOD), you can just chill here building up your alignment until it's at 100.
Or if you're going EVIL, until it's -100.

If you encounter the angry mob, don't choose the "talk them down" option.
It will knock you down to a few HP without a fight. Instead either fight
or walk away. The bigger the group you choose to fight, the more money
and experience you'll earn from this encounter.

Also in Bonetown is an INN, a couple of gambling establishments, healers, a
 bar and a pawnshop.

The Pawnshop is where Selena is; talk to her to complete or embark upon
 random quests.

The Bar is where One Eye is at - One Eye is an NPC that you'll need to
talk to later on when finishing the game as Evil in Chapter 5.20 One of
the other patrons in the bar may tell you that there is hidden entrance
to FlagCity. This entrance can be reached by following along the beach
until you hit the very (narrow) end beside the city. Here is where
you'll find the entrance. Use this when traveling between Bonetown
 and Flagcity.

The FUNHOUSE casino costs 100 gold to enter. Inside there is a man
in the top left corner who will ask if you're interested in
companionship, which in exchange for 1000 gold he will give you a
SMALL FUZZY ANIMAL. Here you will also find a man selling tickets
to travel to Porttown ($1500) and Flagcity ($900).

At the Gladiator Arena in town, you may test your strength for 200 gold.
If you win, you'll double your money. If you lose, you will be knocked down
to a few HP and have to try again tomorrow.

Once you've reached 100 alignment see Chapter 5.19.

Or if you've reached -100 alignment See Chapter 5.20.

I recommend saving up 40,000 (min) to 200,000 (max) gold before moving on.

Your long Journey should soon be over fairly soon.

 5.19 Finishing Good

 * You need 100 alignment, and all 4 skystaff parts for this. *

If you haven't already, piece together the Skystaff by selecting one of the 4
pieces in your inventory. Piecing it together, you'll find yourself
transported to Cloud City. Grab the the Cloud Sword off the table, and talk
to the woman on the far right side of the screen. You can question her about
where you are, or just ask her to send you back down to Earth.

Now go to the [Arrisland Ferry] North of Arrisville. Follow just head due
North, even past where the road breaks off, until you come to a cave. Go
inside to the [Koshi Judgement] where there is a statue of a koshi.
Talk to the statue and show it your Cloud Sword; if your alignment is at 100
 he will let you pass.

You're now in the Koshi Village. Take the top hallway to grab the fourth and
final Moonstone. Then take the middle pathway to get to a Koshi Store, where
you can purchase the Ultimate Weapons and Armor in the game (note: if you
can't afford it now, the Dragon Tooth Clan has their own versions of this
 stuff for the same price.)

Now continue along to the last room on the far top left of the map where
you'll see a chapel. Talk to Dahma and he'll tell you to go talk to your
 mother.

Travel all the way back to Stonebrook and ask her about the Koshi.

Head back to the [Koshi Village] and talk to Dahma again. He'll send you on a
Quest to retrieve the Gryphon Moon from the Dragontooth Clan.

Head to Arrisville and talk to Corin. Ask a favor of him and he'll give you a
Disguise and drop you off at the Dragontooth Clan Island. Equip the disguise
(or else you'll be caught, beaten up, and dropped off in the wilderness).
Head in to the castle. Go past the hut and in to the building on the RIGHT.
You'll find the Gryphon Moon on the table.

At this point if you're low on moves try rubbing the Gryphon Moon. It gives
you more moves by turning back time in 500 move increments.

Now leave the Island (either by going back to the docks, or warping out of
 there.)

Go back to Koshi village and talk to Dahma for the final time (make sure to
take off the Disguise or else he won't talk to you.) He will call you a hero
and allow you to keep the Gryphon Moon.

Your heroics will be posted in the Daily News, and a K will be added by your
QUESTS stat in the game rankings (press L). K designates "Koshi Quest"
completed. You've also earned 500 Quest Points and 10,000 experience.

 Congratulations!

Now go back to Bonetown and start performing horrible deeds to reach -100
alignment if you wish to complete the EVIL quest found in the next chapter.

 5.20 Finishing Evil

 * You need -100 alignment, and at least 100 quest points for this. *

While in Bonetown, I recommend saving up at least 40k to 200k gold before
embarking on this journey if you don't already have the Koshi gear.

Once you've reached -100 alignment, walk around the wilderness somewhere
until you come across the Dragontooth Clan. I recommend just wandering up and
down the road between Porttown and Greentree. But take note, no matter where
you choose to wander, this could take a while!

Once you've found them, you can ask them about recruitment (an option that
appears once you're at -10 actually.) They'll take you to their island.
Use the Ancient Flute to play "remember the present". Don't worry about
getting back in to Castle Coldrake if that is where your flute currently
is set to, as we'll soon be able to BREAK IN (if you don't own it that is.)

After playing your flute, head Eastward until you come to the gate. They'll
have you fight a Koshi slave to prove yourself. After deafeating it, you can
 go on inside.

There's a hut here where you can buy the best armor available in the game.
The Koshi Village also sells armor with the same stats, however, if you
haven't the money (nor have you completed the Good quest yet) you can wait
 until then.

Continue to the Right and go inside. Talk to the Dragon Tooth Leader,
Phineas Crane. He'll say junk to you. Talk to him again until he offers you
a quest (you need atleast 100 Quest Points for this option to appear.)
He'll ask you to steal the Koshi's Smackrod.

Head to the Bar in Bonetown and talk to One Eye. He'll fly you in to the
Koshi Village. Feel your way out from the wall that you're stuck in then
head towards the door in the far top left corner.

Now walk up to Dahma and you'll have retrieved the Smackrod.

Play your flute to warp back to the Dragontooth Clan Island and talk to
Phineas Crane again. He'll declare you a hero and lets you keep the
smackrod. You'll also receive 500 quest points, 10K experience, and a
D by your Quest stat in the leader boards (D designating Dragontooth Clan.)

The Smackrod can be used by pressing Z. It allows you to pick an X and Y
coordinate on the screen to warp to. You can use this to break in to the back
door of Castle Coldrake! So, head there, break in, and play your flute inside.

For more useful places to use the Smackrod, see section 9.

 Congratulations!

Now, if you haven't already completed the Good Quest, you may head back to
Bonetown to gain 100 alignment in order to complete that quest.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 6. Unsolved Mysteries

I have found nearly everything in the game, however there are a few mysteries
left to be solved. Some may be left over from residual code in the game,
while others may or may not actually be solvable. Drop me a line if you know
 the answers.

 6.1 Poisonberry

I have no idea where the poisonberry can be found, nor what it is used for.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 7. Travel Potion Locations

Travel Potions are special potions that will warp you to a random location
in the world. They can be bought from the Dark Robed Priest or in the Koshi
 Village store.

This is a complete list of all 10 locations that the Travel Potion will
 randomly warp you to.

 * 4 screens east of Bonetown
 * Over the pit in the Snowy Fields
 * Next to the other Purple Tree on Neb's Road (1 screen East of Stonebrook)
 * Infront of the Wizard's Tower
 * At an Oasis in the desert (7 screens east, and 1 south from Port Town)
 * The Woods Northwest of Arrisville
 * fishing hole behind the pawnshop North of Green tree (1 screen West, 2
   screens North)
 * 3 screens EAST and 1 screen NORTH of Sosen Village
 * the bridge 1 screen North of the pass to FlagCity
 * 3 screens West of Runion Keep

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

 8. Moonstones

Through out the game are 4 hidden moonstones. Moonstones will give you an
additional 500 moves per day, adding up to a total of 2000 extra moves.

The following Chapters mention where to find each stone.
 * Chapter 5.10
 * Chapter 5.12
 * Chapter 5.16
 * Chapter 5.19

You can find most of these moonstones at any time in any order, except for the
Moonstone in Chapter 5.19. That can only be found once you have gained access
to Koshi Village as a GOOD person.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 9. Warp Spots

Screens in the game don't always border a logical geographical location.
Sometimes if you can reach a screen border, you'll find that a town shortcuts
to place on the other corner of the continent. This is a list of such areas.
You will need have beaten the game as Evil and obtained the Smackrod before
you can find this section to be useful.

Bottom of PortTown connects to top of Treehouse

Left of treehouse connects to top right side of Pawn Shop

Top of Pawnshop connects to bottom of FlagCity

Left of FlagCity connects to Right of Commoner's House

Right of FlagCity connects to Stonepass Lodge.

Bottom of Castle Coldrake connects to Uncle Edward & Laura's House

Leftside of Uncle Edward & Laura's House connects to Red Dragon Inn

Leftside of Greentree West Entrance connects to Weird World

Top of Weird World connects to Greentree Church

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 10. Complete Armor, Weapons, and Items list

This is a complete list of ALL the Weapons and Armor in the game.

The Items lists is for all intents and purposes complete, however it does NOT
list the Travel Tickets to PortTown, Arrisville, SosenVillage or Flagcity,
nor does it list the items for delivery during Random Quests (chapter 5.8)
which are the sack, satchel, letter, Small Bag, and Small Purse. Listing
such items would have proven to be redundant and unnecessary.

I've also left out listing resale values. To calculate resale value for
a piece of armor or weapon, just divide the retail price by 2. Most
things can be sold at the pawnshop.
