HOW TO PLAY THE GAME A fire has broken out at a skyscraper, and numerous people are trapped inside! You are a brave firefighter armed with water and a rescue helicopter. Your goal is to rescue the survivors on each floor and get them to safety before they perish! Player one uses the right joystick and player two will use the left joystick. To move your firefighter through each area, move the joystick in that direction. You can spray water upwards or downwards by pressing the joystick in that direction to aim. You can release up or down when ready, since you'll always aim in the last vertical direction you chose. Hold the button to spray water on the flames. Remember, your goal is to rescue survivors. At the top of each area is a white window which indicates where the survivors are. Go up to it and spray it to get the survivors out. At this point, you can return to the bottom of the screen and exit to get the survivors out. If your fire fighter is touched by the flames, that fighter is 'down' and you lose one fire fighter. In addition, the survivors return to the hiding place. You have four fire fighters for each floor, and while there aren't any one ups, you get your stock of fire fighters replenished for each floor. There are nine different buildings, each consisting of nine floors. Remember, the survivors aren't going to hold out for long. There are four on each floor, and as time goes on, the survivors may perish if left for too long. The number of survivors is shown at the top of the screen. If four fire fighters are downed on one floor or all the survivors perish, the game will be over. There are two types of fires: Single fires and fire walls. The fire walls are bigger and, when sprayed with water, break into several smaller fires, making it hard to extinguish them. The left difficulty switch is the only switch used in this game. The effects are: A (Expert): The flames won't be seen if they're in the walls, so you must watch your step. B (Novice): You can see the flames in the walls. Regardless of difficulty setting, flames within walls cannot be extinguished. There are several game variations which can be chosen with the Game Select switch on your Atari 2600 console: Game #1: One player standard game. If four firefighters are downed or all survivors perish, the game ends. Game #2: Same as above, except you can press the reset switch after getting a game over to continue from where you left off. Game #3: One player training mission where you can simply replay floors that you lost on. Game #4: Two players playing a standard game like Game #1. If one player loses (four downed fire fighters or lost all survivors) the other player begins. *Game #5, #6, and #7: Two player training mission, where players alternate between floors and can replay floors that they lost on. *(This was based on information received on the Internet and may not be totally accurate.) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3. SCORING You receive 1 point for each flame that you extinguish. Each survivor successfully rescued (maximum of 4 per floor) equals 25 points. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 4. TIPS -This isn't an easy game, even by Atari 2600 standards. Beginners should use variation 3 with difficulty level B to get a feel for the way the game plays. As you get better, you can move up to variation 2, and then to variation 1. -You don't have to put all of the flames out to rescue the survivors. If you want to, though, you can, and you'll be insured a safe escape for the survivors. -Don't waste time with every fire. Only extinguish fires that directly block your path, since time is critical when rescuing the survivors. -Remember that Player One uses the RIGHT joystick, and Player Two uses the LEFT joystick, so you won't be surprised if you find your fire fighter isn't responding to your joystick for some reason! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5. A SPECIAL DEDICATION On September 11th, 2001, the nation awoke to a horrific surprise. Terrorists intent on bringing this nation to its knees hijacked several jetliners and flew them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Many people died in this attack. Many of them were fire fighters who rushed to the World Trade Center in an attempt to rescue the people who were caught in this devastating attack. To this day, on the one year anniversary of the attacks, not a day goes by without our thoughts of your courage and bravery as you rushed selflessly into the World Trade Center to rescue all of the people trapped within the two towers with no regard to your own lives. Despite the fact that not everyone could be rescued successfully, you still gave all you had and fought vigilantly untill the end, and we thank you for your every ounce of courage and strength. This document was written on September 11th, 2002, and I wish to dedicate it solemnly to all of the victims of the September 11th attacks. We Will Never Forget! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ©2002 Larcen Tyler
