Version History ============================================================================= Version 1.0 (05/20/05): - Initial version of document. ============================================================================= 2. Introduction ============================================================================= Infiltrate is a cool name, isn't it? Sort of implies getting something via stealth, no? Infiltrate has a prett basic concept - use elevators to ascendand get a briefcase while dodging two smart guards. The guards get smarter and more aggressive, though, after every stolen briefcase. They'll also learn from your shots rather quickly. The guards soon overtake you and basically pound you in. Not much replayability because once you reach a certain point, it's just too damn hard to get any further. ============================================================================= 3. Dedication ============================================================================= I dedicate this guide to all Atari 2600 gamers out there. They really keep this system alive, even though it seems "dead." Atari 2600, in a lot of people's minds, was the first gaming console ever created. This really isn't true, as there were other obscure systems before it. However, this was most people's first video game system - this is the system that brought them into gaming. And so, I dedicate this guide to the Atari 2600 gamers that still play this old system and keep it alive. This guide is also dedicated to Brian P. Sulpher and AboveAverage. Where did you go, AboveAverage? You told me which system to write for! And of course, Brian taught all of us that you can write billions and billions of guides for old games. ============================================================================= 4. Controls ============================================================================= Fire Button: Used to fire your gun. Joystick: Used to move your character. Down: Used to duck (dodge fire). ============================================================================= 5. Overview ============================================================================= The basic layout of the game: ================================================== ---- E ------------------------- E --------------- E E ---------- E ------------------- E --------------- E E - E ------ E ------------------------------------- E E - E -------------------------------------- E ----- E E ------------------------- E -------------- E ----- E E -------------------------------------------------- #### <- Score ================================================== The "E" is the elevator paths. Your job is to take the elevators up to the top of the building and get the briefcase at the top. Once you've done that, one will spawn at the bottom of the screen, so you'll have to descend and get that. Then another will spawn up top and you'll begin to realise the simple pattern. ;) An interesting part about the game is that two guys will patrol the levels, trying to find/kill you. They have guns, too, and can kill you with a shot, or just by running into you. The hero can kill them with a gun, but they just respawn. The difficulty on the two patrollers increases as you get briefcases and kill them, so you will have to be on your toes after a couple kills! The elevators add a little spice to the game, because you can go up a certain way, maybe dodge a level the enemy is on completely. Your main focus is the briefcase, because it's worth a ton of points, but the enemies aren't slacking in point worth, either. The enemies gradually get smarter, though; after a small while you won't be able to spam fire on a lower level to kill them. Once you get ten thousand points, you'll receive a new life. Soon enough, the enemies will prove too smart for you and the game will be over. The odd part about this is that most Atari games have a "dull" difficulty where they want you to score fifteen bijillion points, but Infiltrate ends rather quickly. ============================================================================= 6. Strategies ============================================================================= A few strategies/pointers. * Always use an elevator that takes you to a level no enemy is at. If an enemy is at every level the elevator brings you to, wait for the enemy to drop down to your level while holding down the fire button. If you ascend to a level they're already on, a guard can make quick work of you with their firepower. * Hold down the fire key, don't press it. You're gun is like an automatic at heart. * Ducking is useless because the guards are usually charging you while shooting at you. * Take the routes that bring you up the elevator the quickiest. * Guards spawn from both the top and bottom. * Briefcases spawn on the top and bottom levels. * Guards can kill you by shooting or charging you. Shoot them first so either of these don't happen. * Patience is key, since there is no time limit you can wait enemies out. * As the guards get smarter, be more patient and less risky. Take things slow. Perhaps make your main target the guards instead of the briefcase. Nickle and diming will raise your score without losing a life. * Always dump off an elevator ASAP if a guard is nearing the elevator. This will give you at least a little time to set up for their attack. * Spamming the fire button on the top level will kill respawning guards, but you'll have to worry about both sides. Still, it's a very viable strategy. * Middle levels are the safest because guards don't spawn on top of you. * At higher difficulties, focus on the guards instead of the briefcase. Make the guards your main points, and the briefcase something you're slowly working towards. ============================================================================= 7. Frequently Asked Questions ============================================================================= Question: How many lives can you have? Answer: Not sure, but you get another life every ten thousand points. Question: Who are the two guys on the screen? Answer: They're guards, out to kill you by charge or shot. Question: How do I score points? Answer: At first, getting the briefcase is your main goal. But the guards get stronger after attaining a few briefcases, and you'll soon find killing guards with your gun is the best way to score points. Question: How many players can play? Answer: Just one. Question: When did this game come out? Answer: 1981. Question: Who created this game? Answer: Apollo. Question: My game doesn't work, how do I get it to work!? Answer: You might have a corrupted version of the game, or perhaps the old 2 K version, which doesn't work very well. Question: Where can I get this game? Answer: The Atari 2600 hasn't had any new games made for years, so you can't buy it from them. You can get the game at a garage sale or ebay, if you like. ROMs also work, if you have the game and it is broken, that is. I'm sure Activision made one of their "five hun- dred games-in-one," too, and you get one from them. ============================================================================= 8.
