Copyrights ============== Introduction ============== Red Earth, also known as WarZard, was the first arcade game released by Capcom that utilizes the CPS III board. It was released in 1996 and quickly bombed. Shortly after Capcom released Street Fighter III: The New Generation using the same board. Debates still rage over how "good" or "bad" that game was, but Red Earth has been largely forgotten. Red Earth is unique among one-on-one fighting games in that it utilizes an experience system to earn new moves. This is vaguely reminiscent of an older console fighter called Brutal: Paws of Fury in which you had to earn character moves, except in that game you literally had to earn each and every move a character possessed. This made the early battles interesting, especially on higher difficulty settings. Two players could face each other in versus mode, with the moves being unlocked via password. Red Earth also stands out as it only features four playable fighters and eight bosses. Not since the original Street Fighter had Capcom released a game with such a small roster. This is probably the biggest reason why the game failed to succeed. There also is a story running through the game in the vein of Guilty Gear XX. Red Earth was never ported to any home system and is considered by all accounts to be a failure. Characters from Red Earth have appeared in two other Capcom games, Pocket Fighter and Capcom Fighting Evolution. One needs only to survey the countless internet message boards to see many, many complaints from people about their inclusion. In the case of Pocket Fighter, many people do not even realize Tessa is a Red Earth character (in most guides you'll find her labeled a Darkstalkers character). I find this very sad because I think this game deserved better. It is not perfect by any means, but it is one of the more unique ideas Capcom has had for their fighters since the Street Fighter series. The graphics are some of the best you'll find in a 2D fighter and the experience system is a nice touch and is done much better then Brutal: Paws of Fury. A home release might have fixed the roster problem by making the bosses playable (ala Fatal Fury), but we probably will now never know. I am unable to answer any questions about this game. The moves below came straight from the arcade housing itself. I do not own Red Earth / WarZard and have only played it a handful of times. My primary purpose for writing this guide was to provide what little information is available on this game for those who have recently seen fighters from this game in Capcom Fighting Evolution and SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos. ================ Special Thanks ================ Special Thanks goes to electronicfemale for providing information on all moves gained after Level 10 for Leo and Tessa, and for all of Shin Valdoll's moves. Special Thanks also goes to Jonathan Matthews Software and their ASC Generator. The title logo at the top of this guide was partially created using it. ___ _ _ _ ___ _ _ _ | _ \ |__ _ _ _ __ _| |__| |___ | __(_)__ _| |_| |_ ___ _ _ ___ | _/ / _` | || / _` | '_ \ / -_) | _|| / _` | ' \ _/ -_) '_(_-< |_| |_\__,_|\_, \__,_|_.__/_\___| |_| |_\__, |_||_\__\___|_| /__/ |__/ |___/ (Note: To use Super Moves you need to have a Mystic Orb. He serves the Shogun of his homeland from the shadows, striking those who would seek to supplant him in secret. After witnessing Tanuma's monstrous transformation in Kongou he sets out to destroy the monsters that seek to throw the world, Zipang included, into chaos. EXPERIENCE LEVELS: (Lv. 1; no Exp.) A close-range strike only. ===== Leo ===== Other Appearances: Capcom Fighting Evolution Leo was originally the courageous and just human king of Greedia, but the gods have transformed him into a lion-headed creature so he can do battle with the forces of evil that have begun to flood into the world. He thus travels the world defeating the monsterous warriors who have appeared, searching for the one who has created these foul beasts. Instead of gaining new moves with an increase in experience, Leo gains new weapons. At Level Three he gains a Bronze Sword and at Level Six he gains a Wooden Shield. Only at Level 10 Leo does gain his only Experience Move. In addition to this Leo can also gain an Elemental Sword. To do this you must have enough experience to be at Level 16 and must be facing Ravange. Defeat him in under eighty seconds, finishing him off with the move Mystic Force. By doing this you will replace his Bronze Sword with an Elemental Sword matching the element of the Mystic Orb used. This is only confirmed to work with Ice, Fire, and Electricity elements. Gigas Driver (Level 31) 720 + PPP Powered-up version of the Gaia Driver. Begins with a combo and ends with a Pile Driver. Super Move. ================ Mai-Ling (Tao) ================ Other Appearances: none Mai-Ling is a skilled martial artist from Gora. Recently she left her hometown and participated in a martial arts tournament in which she won first place. Overjoyed she returned home to tell her family, but her joy turned to horror when she found her home ablaze. As she stood in shock the harpy, Lavia, descended from the sky and took credit for the destruction. So begins her journey to discover what evil has befallen the world. Accompanied by her feline friends Al and Evan, her bird Hato, her frog Kaeru, and the dragon spirit Manot she sets out to discover the source of the recent monster appearances, and hopefully learn some new spells along the way. She has the ability to sense the nature of a person just by looking at them, thus no monster can hide its true identity from her. She hails from Icelarn. Depending on the direction she is facing, Tessa uses either Al (if facing to the right) or Evan (if facing to the left) will help. It has no bearing on how well the moves do, but it is a nice extra to be seen in the game. EXPERIENCE LEVELS: (Lv. 1; no Exp.) Magician (Lv. 3; 40000 Exp.) Sorcerer (Lv. 6; 80000 Exp.) Witch (Lv. 10; 120000 Exp.) Phantasm (Lv. 14; 170000 Exp.) Summoner (Lv. 19; 290000 Exp.) Sage (Lv. 25; 540000 Exp.) Archmage (Lv. 32; 700000 Exp.) Magelord NORMAL MOVES: Chakura Wave: | \ -> + P v o Tessa launches a mystical dragon at her foe that will chomp down on them if it connects. Reverie Sword -> | \ + P v o Tessa uppercuts her opponent with a knife. Pretty brutal. SUPER MOVES: Mystic Force | / <- + P P P v o Elemental attack. Tricicle Edge | \ -> | \ -> + P v o v o Tessa throws a flask at towards her opponent. Upon contact it explodes outwards, sending three shards flying. Each will do damage if they connect, meaning you can possibly hit an opponent with all three. EXPERIENCE MOVES: Air Chakura Wave (Level 3) (mid-air) | \ -> + P v o Like the Chakura Wave, except now you can do it mid-air. Glace Cannon (Level 6) | \ -> + K v o Her first cannon-related move. Electric Cannon (Level 8) | \ -> + KKK v o Tessa fires a purple cannon that shoots pixie-like bullets. Fiamma Cannon (Level 10) <- | / + K v o Tessa fires a slightly different type of cannon shot. Hyper Cannon (Level 19) | \ -> | \ -> + K v o v o An elemental cannon attack. Hit LK for ice, MK for fire, or HK for electric. Jamming Ghost (Level 25) -> \ | / <- + PPP o v o Tessa fires a single ghost at her opponent. If it connects three more ghosts appear and viciously attack her foe. Super Move. Death Fuenomeno (Level 32) <- / | \ -> + KKK o v o Tessa surrounds herself with tiny specks and launches them at her foe. They grow as they move and when they connect her opponent is surrounded by four cat-like ballons. ___ ___ _ _ _ | _ ) ___ ______ | __(_)__ _| |_| |_ ___ _ _ ___ | _ \/ _ (_-<_-< | _|| / _` | ' \ _/ -_) '_(_-< |___/\___/__/__/ |_| |_\__, |_||_\__\___|_| /__/ |___/ (UNPLAYABLE) =============== Blade (Jihad) =============== Other Appearances: none The massive robotic fighter Blade is Valdoll's finest creation. Blade is nothing more than the small crystal, but it calls to itself a large set of armor equipped with a lance/gun. Blade was completely constructed by Valdoll, so it is unquestioningly loyal to the evil wizard. MOVES: Basic Moves Blade has a brutal array of basic strikes. With its lance it can strike clear across the screen with a thrust or cover the entire height of the screen with a huge uppercut. Armor Strike Blade, being nothing more than the orb inside the armor, can send pieces of its armor at you. Thus it likes to float safely to a corner and send all of its armor, in small pieces, at you at once. Double Knee Press Blade can launch itself, feet first, at its opponent in the same way as Vega (Bison) can in Street Fighter. Magic Shot Blade's projectile attack. It lifts his lance with both hands at stomach level and fires a blast from the tip. Mirror Trap Blade traps you in a large, full body mirror. Helplessly you watch as it strikes you in a now defenseless position. ====== Gigi ====== Other Appearances: none Gigi is a four-armed stone warrior. Originally a statue of Incan design, Gigi was brought to life by Valdoll. Per its original intent as a stone guardian, it guards the crypt it was originally found in. In battle it wields a sword in each hand. MOVES: Basic Moves Wielding four swords it's no wonder Gigi uses them for his basic strikes. He can slash all over the place and will even use all four at once at times. Pillar Strike Gigi can use this move in two ways. He can either raise a pillar from below the ground like his Spear Strike, or he can send it across the screen as a projectile. Relfect Gigi can reflect projectiles back at you. Spear Strike Gigi summons a spear from below the ground to stab you. Sword Spin Gigi spins and slashes. ======== Hauzer ======== Other Appearances: Capcom Fighting Evolution Hauzer is a gigantic tyranosaurus rex brought back to life by the magic of Valdoll. His bones were buried in the kingdom of Greedia, so he naturally struck there first. Hauzer feels nothing and seeks nothing more than to destroy. He begins this endeavor by attacking the capitol of Greedia. MOVES: Basic Moves Hauzer's basic strikes are pretty much what you'd expect. He swips his tails, claws at you with his feet and arms, and chomps down on you with his jaw. He also has a small fireball that he shoots from his mouth that disappates fairly close to himself, somewhat like Dan Hibiki's fireball from Street Fighter. Deluge Assault Hauzer's charging attack. He leans forward and runs across the screen at you head-first. Deluge Crisis A more powerful version of Deluga Assault that he ends by throwing you into the air with his head, then grabbing you with his jaws and tossing you across the screen. Gust Flame A massive flame attack. Hauzer opens his mouth and spews a huge wave of flame at you. Tempest Fall Hauzer's equivalent of an uppercut. He rears his head upwards and leaps into the air. Volcano Breath Hauzer spits a ball of fire from his mouth that slowly falls to the ground. =============== Hydron (Nool) =============== Other Appearances: Capcom Fighting Evolution Hydron resides beneath the waves off the coast of Icelarn. Originally he was just a small squid that enjoyed playing small pranks on the local fishers, but then he met Valdoll. Valdoll increased both his size and power, making him a god among his own kind, although he still speaks with a slight stutter. With his new power he moves on the land of Icelarn itself, the only one standing in his way being Tessa... MOVES: Basic Moves Hydron uses both his tentacles and his trident in battle. He can either thrust his trident or swing it upwards. He also strikes with his tentacles and peaks with his beak. Arctic Stream Hydron waves his trident and sends a whirlwind of water across the bottom of the screen. Functions as a low projectile. Hydro Spinning Hydron spins himself around, striking anyone he touches. He'll use this both on the ground and in the air. Lightning Mast Hydron electrifies his whole body. Only connects if you're right next to him when he does it. Nochiller's Attack Hydron flies across the screen similar to Vega's (Bison) Psycho Crusher move. Strangle Spark Hydron grabs you with his tentacles and electrifies you before tossing you aside like a pile of garbage. Tadpole Shot Hydron summons a small tadpole. He can summon them low, mid-range, or high, and can either keep them next to himself or send them across the screen at you. ================= Kongou (Tanuma) ================= Other Appearances: none Kongou was once a mere human named Tanuma from Zipang. He was a portly merchant with no fighting ability, but then he met Valdoll who bestowed upon him the ability to transform into a great ogre. Now known as Kongou he is terrorizing his own homeland, wielding a massive club and reducing those who stand in his way to nothing. MOVES: Basic Moves Kongou fights you using both his club and his fists. He can strike low, mid-range, and high. Acid Spit Kongou launches burning acid at you from his belly. Bear Hug Kongou grabs and squeezes you in a fashion akin to Edmund Honda in Street Fighter. Buttafuco Slam Another move akin to Edmund Honda. Kongou butt-bounces on his foe, namely you. Hair Strike Kongou strikes from long-range with his hair. Similar to Necro's basic strikes in Street Fighter. Head Butt Kongou headbutts you. Rocket Fist Kongou launches his fists at you from long-range. He can do this in the air as well. ============== Lavia (Luan) ============== Other Appearances: none Lavia is a vicious harpy whose power was increased by Valdoll's sorcery. She resides in the country of Gora and prompts Mai-Ling to hunt the others that have been empowered by Valdoll when she destroys the young martial artist's village. MOVES: Basic Moves Lavia attacks with her wings and clawed feet. She can fly and will use her wings to gain speed in order to strike quickly. She can grab you from mid-air and perform a throw. Dust Devil Lavia flaps her wings to generate a small tornado that she sends at you. Feather Shield Lavia summons a shield of feathers around herself. They might look soft, but I don't recommend touching them. Mouth Laser Lavia fires a laser blast from her mouth at you. Phoenix Blast Lavia's body becomes engulfed in fire and she charges you. Tail Spin Lavia spins, wings outstretched, damaging you if she connects. =================== Ravange (Secmeto) =================== Other Appearances: none Ravange is a four-headed sphinx from Alanbird, a desert nation. He has the heads of an eagle, a snake, a lion, and a goat. Although he crawls around on all fours he is quite intelligent and each head is dangerous in its own right. He once was a human Pharaoh named Arumana IV, but was given this new form by Valdoll. MOVES: Basic Moves Ravange likes to bite. He also likes to claw. Basically he does all the stuff your mother told you not to do as a child, but don't let his childish behavior make you think less of him. He can bite and claw a lot harder than most five-year olds. Fireball Just your basic 2D fighter fireball, the kind you wish you could shoot to show off at school. Fire Wave Ravanges spits a blast of fire from his mouth. I think this is also related to the cafeteria food they serve at public institutions. Poison Cloud After eating that terrible food at the school cafeteria, Ravange can cough up some stomach gas that is downright nasty at will. Sand In Your Eyes Ravange uses his claws to throw some sand at you. Kinda like what the bully does on the playground at most elementary schools. Super Laser Ravange fires a big laser, kinda like what giant robot toys that you play with at school are supposed to do. Zombie Summon Kinda got stuck on this whole schoolyard antics thing with Ravange... This move is a bit different. Ravange summons three zombie women from the ground that attempt to mummify you. Never saw anything quite like that at school, so I can't make a comparison right now. ========= Valdoll ========= Other Appearances: none Valdoll is an evil wizard and the final boss of Red Earth. He is responsible for the transformation and increased powers of all the other evil fighters. His ultimate goal is, what else, to conquer the world in the name of his new nation, Darminor. His two dragons are named Misery and Despair. When he is defeated he transforms into Shin Valdoll. MOVES: Basic Moves Valdoll summons various nasty things instead of striking like a normal fighter. He'll summon swords from below the ground that will uppercut you into the air, snakes that bite at your feet, and fire lasers at you from his staff. Dragon Fire Valdoll rises into the air and sends a blast of flame down upon your head. Dragon Grab Valdoll rises into the air like when he shoots fire, but this time he grabs you and delivers the hurt. Magic Orbs Valdoll sends four magical orbs across the screen at you as a four-hit projectile. Meteor Shower I think Tessa actually gained this move in SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos. Could that mean she is the one who finally defeated Valdoll? We may never know, but regardless the name is self-explanatory. ============== Shin Valdoll ============== Other Appearances: none After defeating Valdoll once he changes into his ultimate form. He looks a bit different, his body having become somewhat degraded. He also hovers above the ground at all times now. MOVES: Basic Moves Valdoll now uses his dragons in his basic strikes. They can inflict elemental damage (ice, fire, electric, and poison) when they strike. Curse Destiny Misery and Despair shoot out and grab you. They bring you back to Vadoll, who now throws you, and you are transformed into a small animal that cannot block. Kenji becomes a rhinoceros beetle, Leo a lion cub, Mai-Ling a monkey, and Tessa a purple penguin. Destruction Rain His Meteor Shower move from his previous form. Enmity Malice Valdoll sends a cloud at you. If it connects with either you or the floor a group of spectres is released that fly for you. Forbidden Viper Valdoll summons blue snakes from the ground as in his previous form. Perish Lightning Valdoll hits you with a lightning strike. Souls Riton Like his sword strike in his first form, except now he summons three of them to stab you. Teleport Valdoll can now teleport anywhere on the screen. ============ Copyrights ============ Red Earth, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Pocket Fighter, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and Street Fighter III: The New Generation are (c) Capcom Brutal: Paws of Fury is (c) GameTek Fatal Fury and SNK vs. Capcom Chaos are (c) SNK Guilty Gear XX is (c) Sammy Studios
