Author Notes | \___/____________________________________________________________________/ Welcome to Final Fantasy Dimensions, Square-Enixfs latest successful attempt to separate me from my money. This guide is based on the iOS version of the game. Presumably the Android version is identical, but Ifm not going to purchase another tablet to find out. Please do not e-mail any questions after the parts of the walkthrough that are complete. I do not know the answers, and I will probably end up pissed at you when you spoil ME by accident. For long time Final Fantasy fans who adored FFIV, FFV, and FFVI, your prayers for a cute, sprite-based RPG have been answered. Get an iPad or some Android tablet and buy this. You will not be disappointed. In this guide, I try very hard to avoid story-based spoilers whenever possible. In future versions of this guide, I will do my best to let you know if youfre about to hit a point of no return (such that you might permanently be unable to answer certain treasure chests). I will mention freely when characters leave your party for more than about 10 minutes of playtime. I use all default names by SE. I respect their ability to continue to name their main character after something seen in the sky. As the game itself has a very thorough Help section on its main page, and a fairly thorough in-game tutorial for using controls, I will not duplicate it here. Even though it has some interesting translation foibles, itfs still readable. If you have EVER played one of the first nine FF games, and in particular FFV, you can dive headfirst into this game without reading the Help section. The game in the Prologue will give you direction on any control adjustments you need for a touch screen. ______________________________________________________________ffd_walk__ / \ ffd_prol \ | | 2A. Walkthrough - Prologue | \___/____________________________________________________________________/ So, welcome to FFD. You have so far invested no dollars in this game! Square-Enix, in return, gives you slightly more content than that nothing, but only slightly! The prologue should take you no more than an hour, and at most two hours if youfre exceptionally anal about documenting everything as you play along. However, Ifve already spared you that, so you can have fun running around like a loon leveling up instead for Chapter 1 or something! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Prologue Walkthrough: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 0-1: Journey to the Checkpoint -------------------------------- ffd_pro1 0-2: Exploring Lux -------------------------------------------- ffd_pro2 0-3: Storming the Castle -------------------------------------- ffd_pro3 0-4: The Northern Cave ---------------------------------------- ffd_pro4 0-5: The Temple ----------------------------------------------- ffd_pro5 ============================================================================ 0-1: Journey to the Checkpoint ------------------------------------ ffd_pro1 ============================================================================ Tap your screen through the first few cutscenes (CSfs) (it does not auto-advance), admire the castle, then watch your screen shake from the airship! The first character will show up on your screen with a short introduction. Name him. ****************************** A strong, hot-headed youth from the small kingdom of Lux. Dreams of riding an airship. - Sol ****************************** Wait a few moments, and then youfll find yourself in a fight with some mysterious character. Tap the gAttackh command on the right side of your screen, then tap the g???h to attack this unknown assailant! You could also tap on the enemy twice. Doing this two or three times will end the fight and send you into a cut scene, where you will be introduced to and name two more allies. You can alternatively just stand still and do nothing, and youfll still end the fight within 30 seconds, though with a slight change in dialogue. ******************************** A kind-hearted young lad. Childhood pal of Sol, the two have a friendly rivalry. - Glaive ******************************** *************************** A cheerful young woman. Has a loving older brother. Treats Sol like a kid. - Diana *************************** More CSfs. You will then get basic directions on how to move your character and how to talk to NPCs (non-playable characters), those fun folks that move around town. After you close this screen, youfll be on the overworld map with your three characters. The Menu button will be in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Tap it, then when in the menu, tap the gsaveh option (lower right) and save your game. You could head north to town and whatnot, but for now, letfs head south and around. In the upper right corner of your screen beneath the Menu button, youfll see a minimap. Head to the southern yellow dot around the mountains (the northern yellow dot is the kingdom of Lux). Head north and youfll enter a CS to talk with a guard. A young gentleman will appear - Dianafs older brother. Name him. ******************************** A swordsman and Solfs teacher. Lost his parents at a young age. Brother of Diana. - Aigis. ******************************** Watch the rest of the CS, then head back north to Lux. ============================================================================ 0-2: Exploring Lux ------------------------------------------------ ffd_pro2 ============================================================================ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lux ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inn - 10 gil Aigis will leave your party shortly after you enter Lux. Go into the southeasternmost house, which Diana ran inside of in anger. Talk to her, then head outside and talk to Glaive. Head outside of town and north to the castle. The treasures you can find in Lux are as follows: Phoenix Down - bookshelf in Solfs house (left half) (NWernmost house) Leather Hat - barrel in Solfs house Tent - bottom bookshelf in Glaivefs house (right half) 100 gil - middle house (pot) Eye Drops - barrel by pond Antidote - bush in SE corner of town Potion - barrel in SE corner of town Silk Robe - SE house (Dianafs), on shelf, right half Maidenfs Kiss - pot in Dianafs house. Side note - one of the NPCs will mention a Chocobo Forest north of town. You can go there later to find both yellow and white chocobos. Talking to a white Chocobo will restore your magic points to full, and talking to a yellow chocobo will allow you to ride around on the world map without fear of engaging a monster, and faster to boot! ============================================================================ 0-3: Storming the Castle ------------------------------------------ ffd_pro3 ============================================================================ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Castle Lux ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Try to get through the gates (the NPCs, familiarly named, will block you), then head south as if youfre going back outside for a short CS. Glaive will take you to a secret hidden passage behind a statue. Go down the stairs. The aforementioned guard NPCs will remain BLISSFULLY oblivious that you got around them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ B1F (A) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - Leather Shield 1 floor below - basic maze. Take the right passage to find a Leather Shield. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ B2F ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - Tent, Broadsword, Potion Follow the path (either route after the first split) to a Tent. Continue heading north, then before jogging up the stairs, head left to find two chests containing a Broadsword and a Potion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ B1F (B) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - Leather Helm, 100 gil, Potion To your right are three chests behind a locked door. Anyone want to lay bets that youfll have to do something for the king before you get to see whatfs inside? Yeah, thatfs my bet one hour into this mess. Head left and go upstairs...wait, no! Go left, pull the chain by facing it and tapping the screen, then head back to the gate, and then go upstairs into Castle Lux. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Castle Lux ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Treasure: Antidote, Phoenix Down, Eye Drops, 200 gil, Potion, Leather Shoes. Walk between the barrels to find a hidden passage. Weave your way south into the main entry. If you try to leave, Glaive will stop you prematurely. Go upstairs for a CS. Aigis will rejoin your party. Your task now is to head north to the creatively named Northern Cave. Youfre also now free to raid the castle of any treasure it possesses. Oh, and talk to NPCs. Head downstairs twice from the throne room and youfll see routes to the rest of the area. Go northwest through a door to find a group of mages. The Jar in this room has an Antidote. The northeast room from here leads you to the Oracles room, but there was no treasure in there that I could find. The towers also have treasure, as listed below: Mages study room (NW room) - first jar has an Antidote 2nd story of east tower - jar has a Phoenix Down. 2nd story of west tower - two chests, Eye Drops and 200 gil 1st story of west tower - Potion in SE jars, Leather Shoes in SW Jars (interiormost - go around the leftmost jar and south to get to it) ============================================================================ 0-4: The Northern Cave -------------------------------------------- ffd_pro4 ============================================================================ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Treasure List ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1F(a) - Sacred Candle, Cotton Cap, Maidenfs Kiss, Ether 2F - Dagger, Leather Shoes, Leather Armor 1F(c) - Tent, Phoenix Down Head east from Lux across the bridge, then northerly to find the aptly named Northern Cave. If you feel exceptionally lazy, you can go to the chocobo forest north of Lux (itfs located in the center of the round forest) and talk to a yellow Chocobo there to ride on it, but frankly, the enemies are easy enough that you should probably just walk there instead to gain some experience points. Walk into the cave. A soldier will be blocking the entrance. If you talk to him, hefll unblock the entryway. (Had you come here earlier, he would be a good guard and keep you out.) ~~~~~~~~~ 1F(a) ~~~~~~~~~ From the entrance, head right to find a Cotton Cap. Turn around and head north to a chest that contains a Sacred Candle, then go down the stairs to your east. Continue heading southeast to find a Maidenfs Kiss. Go northeast to find the stairs to the next floor. Before going up them, though, head south and follow the path there to get to a dead end with an Ether. ~~~~~~~~~ 2F ~~~~~~~~~ Again, a split path at the entry. Head west and north first to get to a dead end Treasure Chest with a Dagger inside. Heading east from the entry, go down a stairwell and east to find a pair of Leather Shoes. Go up the stairs immediately due west, and continue up the path northwest to findLeather Armor. Turn back around, go up the stairwell, head northeast, anddouble back down. ~~~~~~~~~ 1F(b) ~~~~~~~~~ Save point! ~~~~~~~~~ 1F(c) ~~~~~~~~~ Upon exiting here youfll see a man in a hat that is suspiciously pimp and strangely not red. Approach him, and engage in your first fight versus a Manatoise. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* BOSS: Manatoise ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Approximate HP: 800 (778-820) EXP: ~900 Gil: 0 AP: 0 Weaknesses: Ice ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Oh, oh, are we going to learn about the virtues of holding back your attacks like almost every other first boss in Final Fantasy game series history?! No, you arenft. But you shouldnft feel bad for thinking so. The trick to this first fight is to pelt the Manatoise with blizzard spells from Aigis and the mysterious Red Mage whose garb looks tan instead of red. Do NOT attack it. If Sol counters its physical attacks, youfre okay, but if you directly attack the Manatoise, itfll whallop you back for a ton of damage. Have Glaive and Sol defend - Diana should cast cure spells as necessary. It should only take 3 bursts of blizzard from Aigis and 3 casts of Blizzaga from the mystery mage to end this. Elgo will join you after the fight, officially. You donft get to name him. Go back and save/heal up using your tent, and then advance. The first chest you see on the path is a Tent. Go straight ahead to find a Phoenix Down from there at the fork in the road, and then due east is a moogle selling various items. The items for sale are exactly the same as those for sale back in Lux. Upon exiting the cave, head east and loop north towards the Temple. ============================================================================ 0-5: The Temple --------------------------------------------------- ffd_pro5 ============================================================================ Enter the temple and head straight ahead through the first room. In the second room, youfll see two doors to your left (well, one door and a passage south), two to your right (see previous), and a staircase leading upwards. Each of the rooms contains one treasure chest, as follows: 1Fb - NW chest - Antidote 1Fb - SW chest - Phoenix Down 1Fb - NE chest - Bronze Hauberk 1Fb - SE chest - Feathered Cap Go upstairs to the second floor. There are four offshoot rooms here - one directly south of the stairwell. You can go either left or right to reach here from the staircase as your heart moves you. One room lies left, and one right, and one south of the central room. 2F - Central Room - Bronze Armor 2F - West Room - NO CHEST 2F - East Room - Bronze Helm 2F - South Room - 600 gil Go south from the south room to reach the stairwell to the third floor. On the third floor, you will have two offshoot rooms, one immediately north of the stairwell, and one up the northwest corridor preceded by a chest. The northeast corridor leads to the fourth floor. 3F - Central Room - Potion 3F - NW Room - Tent 3F - Main, chest in NW area - Pointy Hat Fourth floor - you start at the SE side of the floor, with three passages due north of you. The central passage leads to the fifth floor, with the offshoots as usual bearing chests of fun loot. 4F - West Room - Metal Claw 4F - East Room - Rod As you get to the fifth floor, you find a save spot! Use that tent, because by now your characters should be close to being out of MP. Youfll also get a prompt that this is the last save point of the prologue, and a hearty recommendation to SAVE YOUR GAME. So save it. You must purchase Chapter 1 to continue playing after the prologue. Go north through the door to the Crystal Chamber, where your ears will be assaulted with the Final Fantasy Prelude. Walk north and touch it, then wait through a CS to see the last Prologue boss, the Watchbeast. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* BOSS: Watchbeast ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Approximate HP: Unknown EXP: Unknown Gil: 0 AP: 0 Weaknesses: Fire ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Sadly, this is a story battle. You can cast Libra on it to see that itfs weak to fire, but itfll eventually do some weird Soul Despair stupid move to get you down to single digit HP to gdefeath your party. Cutscenes will ensue. Enjoy. END PROLOGUE - TIME TO GIVE SQUARE-ENIX MONEYS ________________________________________________________________________ / \ ffd_chpl \ | | 2B. Walkthrough - Chapter 1 - Reckoning | \___/____________________________________________________________________/ Oho! You have given Square-Enix money! Welcome back. :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter 1 Walkthrough: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1-1: Harmonia ------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch101 1-2: Airship -------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch102 1-3: Mount Lux ------------------------------------------------ ffd_ch103 1-4: Crystal Temple: North Approach --------------------------- ffd_ch104 1-5: Crystal Chamber: Right is Light -------------------------- ffd_ch105 1-6: Liene ---------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch106 1-7: Mt. Liene ------------------------------------------------ ffd_ch107 1-8: Castle Liene --------------------------------------------- ffd_ch108 1-9: Warship -------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch109 ============================================================================ 1-1: Harmonia ---------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch101 ============================================================================ Time to fire up your engines! After viewing some cutscenes, youfll meet your initial three characters for this scenario: ********************************* A young woman trapped in the cold northlands. Has a quick wit, but can be a bit flighty. - Alba ********************************* ********************************* A young man held in Harmonia. Lost his parents in the war. A man of few words and no emotion. - Nacht. ********************************* ********************************* Albafs twin. The exact opposite of his sister, he seems to be holding a secret... - Dusk ********************************* Talk to the folks in town, exploring in the locations listed below to pick up some extra items, then head to the airship. There are no enemies to fight around Harmonia proper. Antidote - Jar in far SW house. Phoenix Down - Jar inside of Pub building (2nd building southside from left) Potion - Jar by the SE house. Tent - Jar in SE house. Potion - Jar in big NW house by fireplace (the jar north of it is unreachable) Potion - Barrel east of big NW house. Antidote - Jar inside of NE house. ============================================================================ 1-2: Airship ----------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch102 ============================================================================ Talk to the soldier in Red to board the airship thatfs guarding the ladder. Youfll meet the fourth member of your team: ****************************** An uncanny young woman held prisoner on the airship. She is both quiet and elegant. - Sarah ****************************** Talk to all the characters in the room. When you talk to the last one, youfll end up in a cutscene. Youfll get a chest to open with equipment and items. Youfll be informed that your mark is a temple just beyond the northern mountains. The inventory you will receive is as follows: 5 Potions, 1 Tent, 3 Antidotes, 3 Phoenix downs, 3 Golden Needles, and 1000 gil. Your party will also get various pieces of equipment. Youfll be dropped off outside of the airship. North of the guard in front of the ladder to the airship is another soldier. He has sundry goods for sale. The only difference between his wares and the previous item merchants is the addition of Golden Needles for sale at 400. Yes, folks, the introduction of this item heralds the introduction of enemies that will petrify you in the next area, though if youfre quick in battle youfll be able to skimp on buying these. ============================================================================ 1-3: Mount Lux --------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch103 ============================================================================ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Lux: East Base ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go straight ahead, then up the stairs and climb the mountain on the colored fragments up twice. You will then see two more colored handholds due north on that platform - one to your left, and one to your right. Climb up the right series that you see to reach a treasure chest with an Iron Bangle, then head back down. Head west, pass the next set of upwards handholds, and go down the handholds at the end of the platform to reach a treasure chest containing a Potion. Return back to that center set of upwards bound handholds to make it to the next area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Lux: East ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the next screen, youfll see handholds to your left up to a platform, and a path stretching out east. Go up first to the left to find an Antidote in a chest, then go back down and head east. Climb up two handhold stretches and youfll be presented with two handhold paths. The east one leads to a Tent. Going up the western one will take you to a platform with a far west downslope set of handholds and an upwards one. Go downwards to locate an Iron Bow chest - the upwards set takes you to the Summit area. You should equip either Dusk (ideally) or Alba with said Iron Bow, as it delivers wind damage while ignoring what row your character is in. Most of the aerial enemies on this mountain (Cocatrices, Floating Eyes, and Bombs) are weak to the damage it inflicts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Lux: Summit ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are no enemies on this level, so enjoy a brief respite from sword-bloodying. Upon reaching the summit, youfll see a save point and a treasure chest (containing Leather Shoes) due sw from the save point. Continue northwest and jog northeast for a chest containing a Hi-Potion, then head back southwest and climb down the footholds you see there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Lux: West ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Once you get to the West half of Mt. Lux, youfll see a chest to your west with a Kenpogi. Head east from that chest, then climb the handholds to another chest with an Ether. Climb down, walk southeast to a Phoenix Down chest, then climb down stairs and another set of handholds. Go south and down two more handholds to a chest with a Spear, which also does nice damage to wind-based enemies. Go back up and then west, then down the handholds and south to reach the next screen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Lux: West Base ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On this last screen, climb down a bunch of handholds until you reach a large platform with a upwards-bound set of handholds northwest and a downwards-bound due southeast. As you climbed down to this platform to begin with, you naturally saw a treasure chest due west. Three guesses - no, one guess! - on which way you should go first. Yep, northwest, and open the chest you find up those handholds to get an Iron Shield. Then just go all the way down (there will be no further forks) to get to a CS. ============================================================================ 1-4: Crystal Temple: North Approach ------------------------------ ffd_ch104 ============================================================================ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1F (a) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Once you get off the mountain, save and head south. You do not need to use a Tent before entering - on the first floor from the back side, if you turn east upon entering, youfll see a large jar isolated off to the side thatfll restore your HP and MP to full. It also will revive any deceased party members. Continue southwest to the staircase to the second floor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2F (a) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Upon reaching the second floor, youfll see doorways both to the left and right. Go through the right door first - it will lead you to a dead end with a chest containing an Iron Helm. Double your way back out and head through the left door, which will loop around to the southern area of the first floor that you saw earlier. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1F (b) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow the path to the second floor once more...but before you do, check the unlit candle to your east. Examining it will open a hidden passageway to a treasure chest containing Iron Armor. Now you can go upstairs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2F (b) + 1Fc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Loop around, and take the down staircase due south to two treasure chests - a Phoenix Down and a Tent. Youfll see that opened Iron Armor chest to your right. Head back upstairs, and then go west to the stairwell to the third floor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3F ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you get up to the 3rd floor, youfll see not one, not two, but three doors ahead of you! Both the NW and NE rooms present their chests right away, but entering the north room puts you at the foot of a stairwell. Go up it, then go east (the room west has nothing inside). 3rd Floor Northwest Room - Ether 3rd Floor North Room - Main Gauche 3rd Floor Northeast Room - Headband Once youfve gathered all of these chests, go south and up the stairwell there to the fourth floor. ~~~~~~~ 4F ~~~~~~~ Youfll find a save point. Ascend to the 5th floor. ~~~~~~~ 5F ~~~~~~~ Once you enter here, youfll see a cutscene. Youfll engage the Watchbeast that you saw at the end of the Prologue. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* BOSS: Watchbeast ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Approximate HP: 1800+ EXP: 1800 Gil: 0 AP: 0 Weaknesses: Fire ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Have Alba nuke with Fire spells, Dusk keep a careful watch on health, and Sarah and Nacht attack. Ideally Dusk should also be equipped with the aforementioned Iron Bow for when hefs not healing. You should have very few problems with this fight even if youfre underleveled. Attacks of the Watchbeast include Roar, which stuns your allies and resets their attack meters; Right Arm, a single strong attack against a single ally; Blaze, doing 20-40 HP damage to each member of your party; Soul Despair, dropping your entire party to single digits, but with a blessedly long hit to the Watchbeastfs move timer. Winning will net you a total of 1800 xp, divided to 450 apiece if everyone survives. A CS will ensue. ============================================================================ 1-5: Crystal Chamber: Right is Light ----------------------------- ffd_ch105 ============================================================================ Your party will switch back to Sol and Aigis. Head south and talk to Elgo. Talk to Dusk and Sarah and they will join you. Talk to Elgo again. Pick up all seven of the crystals (shades of FF5) and youfll get a screen discussing jobs. Talk to Elgo and afterwards youfll get a screen prompting you about Abilities. You are now freely able to switch your classes from Jobless to one of seven other jobs - Warrior, Monk, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage, and Summoner. Okay, technically you could stay Jobless and equip a lot of awesome stuff, but you wouldnft be able to take full advantage of all that great AP (ability points) youfll be earning fighting battles now. Head out the Temple, reversing the steps you took during the Prologue. The direct route out is: 5F: Walk out. Head south, save. 4F: Walk south, jog east, then go down the stairs. 3F: Walk south as far as you can. When you see a down staircase, go down. 2F: Go as far north as you can until you see another down staircase. 1F: Head straight south until you go out a passageway. Head straight south. Youfll note as you get to the overworld map that therefs a nice big pass in the mountains so that you donft have to go into the Northern Cave again. Head across the bridge and youfll discover that Lux...simply isnft there any longer. ============================================================================ 1-6: Liene ------------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch106 ============================================================================ Before you head south, go up the land path in the midst of the black void to a round forest. Talk to a Yellow Chocobo for your summoner to learn the level 1 summon spell Chocobo. Head south towards the checkpoint, pass through, then head south on the overworld map to reach Liene. When you arrive, the first NPC at the front of town suggests you head to the inn. Head south, and itfll be on your right. Youfll get a nightfs stay for free! Naturally, a cutscene ensues. This cutscene MUST be viewed before you can go forward in the next area, Mt. Liene. The inn will cost 50 gil each night thereafter. When youfre done here, go crazy at the shops, talk to the NPCs, and head west and north to Mt. Liene. If you do nothing else, spend your money first at the magic shops, and then go back and spend money at the weapon and armor stores. Treasure: Antidote - Jar between two NE houses. 10 gil - barrels nw of magic shop Golden Needle - Jar south of the above Antidote Hi-Potion - Jar by the river south of the two northeast houses. (You have to go under the outcrop where the Golden Needlefs on - therefs a hidden passage.) ============================================================================ 1-7: Mt. Liene --------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch107 ============================================================================ There are a lot of screens for this mountain. The lettering here is my own: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: South Base - (a) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head north from the entry. Go up the stairwells, then go northeast to hit the first chest, a Potion. Head west, go up the ladder and across the bridge to into the cave. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: South Base - (b) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Entering the cave, youfll see a chest immediately to your right, which contains an Oak Staff. Heading north, youfll see two exits. The westernmost one immediately ahead of you is the one you should go through first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: South (a) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go across the bridge to get an Ether. Turn back around since this is a dead end, go back in the cave, and then head east to the second exit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: South (b) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go across the bridge and southwest to find a Tent. Go back north and up the ladder and into another cave to find a save point. (Yes, I know a and b are the same screen, just different sections, but it was easier to label them as separate.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: Summit ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head west and up the ladder for a small cutscene. You will get your first Fusion Ability, Magic Missile, which demonstrates that whoever translated this game for SE is DEFINITELY a native English speaker. All four of your characters will get it. Elgo will not. Continue west to make it to another cave entrance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: North (a,b) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Climb down the ladder to the next screen. Youfll see two treasure chests, due southwest and southeast respectively. Head to the southeast one first to get an Antidote, then work back around to the southwest chest for a Golden Needle. Head west from the Golden Needle chest to exit out of the cave. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: North (c) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head south down the stairwell to get a Metal Rod out of the first chest there. Go back around and head west and follow the pathway up the stairwell until you reach another cave entrance. Youfll see a chest containing a Hi-Potion immediately northeast of it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: North (d) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow the path. Grab the Headband out of the chest. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mt. Liene: North Base ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go down both stairwells, head left, then go up the two stairwells to get a Kenpogi. Head down all the stairwells due south of you to exit the mountain, then head west on the world map to make it to Castle Liene. ============================================================================ 1-8: Castle Liene ------------------------------------------------ ffd_ch108 ============================================================================ A short jog west from Mt. Liene leads to Castle Liene. As you enter the castle, talk to the soldiers, which youfll then engage them in battle: -------------------------------- Soldiers x 3 -------------------------------- These guys are normal enemies for this area, so I wonft engage in listing any real strategy for them, other than killing them dead as quickly as possible. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1F ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enter the castle doors. Upon going through the main doors of the castle, youfll see doors to your left and right and a stairwell straight ahead. Beyond the stairwell due north is a locked door. The left door is also locked, so head to the right door first. Inside youfll see two treasure chests, a soldier, a bunch of barrels, and a jar, which restores all of your HP and MP. The soldier sells all the goods available in Liene. SW Chest - Bardfs Tunic North Chest - Tent Exit this room and take the center stairwell upstairs, which leads to the throne room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2F - Throne Room ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The jar to the left of the throne contains a valuable Elixir. Head south around the staircase and outside to the roof. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Roof ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the roof, go up either staircase and through the door at the top. Youfll find a chest containing a set of Baghknakhs, a great weapon for a Monk. Go back outside and north to a downwards staircase. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* BOSS: Hell Minion ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Approximate HP: ???? EXP: 1950 (1050 for his companion, Butch) Gil: 0 AP: 3 AP (+ 2 AP for Butchfs death) Weaknesses: None Vulnerable to: Slow Stealable: Hi-Potion ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* This guy is clearly out and about looking for sympathy for leaving Street Fighter. He seems pretty straightforward, but partway through the fight, he summons his pet(?), Butch, a manticore. You now have two options. You can aim for the Hell Minion first and kill it. If you do so, Butch will run away. Alternatively, you can kill Butch first. Doing that results in Hell Minion buffing himself like crazy, but hefs still easily defeated. When youfve won, go to the middle cell and talk to the prisoner inside of there to start a CS. Look in the jar there to get an Ether. Afterwards, talk to the gnome in the right cell. No matter how you answer, hefll give you the same information, so answer in the manner most amusing to you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Further Exploration ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head back out of the castle the way you entered. After you head downstairs from the Throne Room, youfll see a mini-cutscene with a soldier entering a door - the locked door from when you originally entered! Go through that door, and youfll be in a room where youfll be prompted to look for a hidden exit. Search around the room. I highly recommend looking underneath the bed. The trick is to examine the pot in the corner. Scoop up some water from it, then touch the pink flowers in the center of the room. A secret passage will open behind the bookshelf. Go beyond the bookcase, then downstairs. Follow the passage until you see a northbound door. Head south instead, thus opening the OTHER locked door from the opposite side, and then head north through the door to the back of the castle. ============================================================================ 1-9: Warship ----------------------------------------------------- ffd_ch109 ============================================================================ Make your way across the overworld to the airship. If you forgot earlier to go to the Chocobo Forest to learn the Chocobo spell, you have another opportunity to do so by going west of the airship. Get on the airship. Really. Climb up the ladder, watch the airship take off. Shortly after takeoff, youfll be attacked by the following group: --------------------------------------------------------- Battlemage x 2 + Swordsman - 120 gil, 5*88 xp, 3 AP --------------------------------------------------------- Youfll automatically move inside of the ship. ~~~~~~~~ Passage ~~~~~~~~ Go straight ahead into the room, where youfll find a Moogle. This is announced as being the last save point in Chapter 1. This is both accurate and inaccurate - this will be the last one you will use, but there is one other save point further down the ship. Do not go up the ladder. Instead, head outside back into the main passage area and head north to a down ladder, down to B1F. ~~~~~~~~~~ B1F ~~~~~~~~~~ Rather than use a lot of words, I drew a picture. The ^ is where the staircase back up is. a--^---b | xxxxxxxx | c | d ------- e | f | | B1F north - Nothing special here. B1Fa - Iron Shield chest B1Fb - Chest triggers an alarm, causing a party of Swordsman x 2 + Sergeant Major x 2 to enter. Chest afterwards contains crossbow. B1F south - One soldier wandering. B1Fc - Two soldiers wandering in here. No treasure. B1Fd - Two soldiers roaming, chest containing Iron Armlet B1Fe - Switch triggers passageway down. B1Ff - Hi-Potion chest So, the executive get-through-this-asap route is head south from the stairwell, then take a left, then head south into the room there. Head to the east side of the room, flip the switch, and descend another level. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Engine Room Level: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This level looks like a donut hole: Storage | Break Room --| | | West---------East Hull | Hull | | | | | | | | | ------^------ ...where the little ^ is the staircase back up to the B1F level. The best route is to choose one side, travel through it, and go to the room in between the two hulls. Youfll head north to the Break Room, save, then head to the Storage and fight a boss, then resave and work your way through the East Hull. Oh, I explained it all! The treasure on this floor: Ladder Room: None. West Hull: Star Pendant, Phoenix Down East Hull: Chain Whip, Hi-Potion Center Room: Wizardfs Hat (south side of this room) Break Room: Nothing, but there is a save point! Storage: Nothing, but there is a story fight with a key item! On that merry note, make your way back to storage. ~~~~~~~ Storage ~~~~~~~ Once you enter this room, youfll end up in a short fight: ----------------------------------- Swordsman, Cavalier x 2, Battlemage - 163 gil, 5*128 xp, 4 AP ----------------------------------- Defeating these guys gets you the aft deck key. Go all the way back upstairs, go through the Passage and save, then go to the Aftside Passage and use the key. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aftside Passage: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Upstairs from the moogle and the save point. Youfll see a long passageway with an offshoot to the left and the right, plus a single soldier going up and down the halls. Go first to the left and through the door there. Youfll find a chest with an Iron Bangle. Cross the hall, and go into the right passage and its door. Youfll see a room divided into two sections, with two switches on the right. The rightmost switch opens a door to two treasure chests Left passage - chest with Iron Bangle North passage - needs Aftside Key. Save this for last. Right passage - two switches. Left calls enemies, right creates door leading to two treasure chests (Battleaxe and Ether) Battlemage x 2, Cavalier fight This is your last opportunity to alter Elgofs equipment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aftside Deck: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you complete your final ascent to this level, youfll be in constant continuous battles: --------------------- 1: Battlemages x 3 - 117 gil, 5*87 xp, 3 AP 2: Cavalier x 3 - 123 gil, 5*103 xp, 3 AP 3: Battlemage, Captain, and Phalanx - 76 gil, 5*354 xp, 7 AP --------------------- The first two fights are same old, same old. The third fight, however... The Captain does a lot of damaging moves - all mages MUST be in backline. A good technique is to have lots of Summoners use Sylph to keep your party healed at all times once the Battlemage and Phalanx are taken out. You can steal Iron Armor from the Captain. Youfll see a cutscene after this, and engage in an unwinnable fight versus Baugauven of the Flame. After you fight him long enough, hefll auto-end the fight with a HP reduction move called Heat Wave. Elgo will leave your party. You will fight one more battle after this to end the scenario: ------------------------- Battlemage x 2 + Cavalier - 119 gil, 4*115 xp, 3 AP) (Bronze Armor) ------------------------- Sit back and enjoy the final cutscenes.
