This guide provides you with a low down of the general gameplay mechanics, solutions and walkthroughs to every stage and the secrets the game offers. Fast Food is from Codemasters and is the forth in the Dizzy series of games. This is essentially a Pac Man clone, where you move around a maze collecting items (fast food) in order to progress to the next stage. Of course there are various enemies to hinder your progress, and even these look like the Ghosts from pac-man. However each set of levels is themed and imaginatively presented, making playing the 40 levels a joy, making it one of my favorite Amiga titles. I hope you enjoy the guide, - Matt =============================================================================== --------------------- TABLE OF CONTENTS --------------------- =============================================================================== 1. VERSION HISTORY ---------------------- =============================================================================== +--------------------------+ | Version 1.0 - 04/11/2006 | +--------------------------+ The first version of the FAQ, everything is complete! =============================================================================== -------------------- 2. GAME OVERVIEW -------------------- =============================================================================== =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2.01. Game Overview =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------ Basics ------ You play as Dizzy, an egg and the objective is to collect all the items of Fast Food in the stage whilst avoiding the enemies. Everything moves in the level so you have to keep on your toes, avoiding the enemies and chasing the food. There are also various power-ups to help your progress. There are a total of 4 themed stages, each offering 10 levels each with increasing difficulty between stages. ------------ General Tips ------------ - Enemies don't follow you, but just wonder around aimlessly. Don't predict where they will go next, as it's random. - Everything can bump off each other, so that's food, enemies and powerups. So if a burger and a green enemy come into contact with one another they will bounce away in the opposite directions. You can use this to your advantage, for example - D F> You are going down a However as they collide the path, with food moving away food moves toward you, and and the enemy coming toward you. the enemy away with no risk. - If an enemy dies, it will respawn around 5 seconds later. - When it comes to faster foods, never chase them. Instead, try and cut them off logically, however remember that their movement is randomised. - Use your common sense around dead ends. If there are no enemies around then go for it, quickly get the food or powerup and retreat with haste, otherwise just move around the stage and return when there is less attention in that area. - Some levels have terrain that only Dizzy can travel though. For example on the Normal stages, enemies, food and powerups cannot travel through the turnstiles and benches. Use this to your advantage! - Some levels also have terrain that can be destroyed, such as black bricks in the Hard levels. A factor (or glitch) is that you must hit it face on to destroy it. - When you collect the last item of food, the level finishes. So if you are about to get touched by an enemy but you know you will get the last bit of grub first, then don't worry as you won't lose a life from touching him. Just ensure it's the last item of food though before you make such a decision. ;) ------- Enemies ------- There are four types of enemies, gradually introduced as the game goes on. There are two types, fast and slow. Enemies are best avoided at all costs, but however can be destroyed temporarily using certain powerups (of which are explained below). Slow - Green Blue Fast - Yellow Red -------- Powerups -------- As you play, random power-ups spawn in the level. Most of these help you while some hinder you slightly, however if you see one jump at the chance to get it as it will help you progress much further in the game. Green Arrows - Speed Up Game Red Arrows - Slow Down Game H Pizza - Invincible Green Bottles - Slows Down Enemies and Food Blue Bottles - Freeze Enemies Only Red Bottles - Kill all enemies and Food Speed Shoes - Speed Up Dizzy Blue Shield - Can kill enemies on contact for short time =============================================================================== ------------------ 3. WALKTHROUGH ------------------ =============================================================================== =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.01. Easy =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ----------- The Arches! ----------- Food x 6 Enemies x 0 As you can imagine, nothing to this level. No enemies so take your time and collect all the food. They mostly stick around the edges so go around there. --------------- The Flower Beds --------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 0 Again, as there are no enemies around this level isn't a problem. Just head out to each opposite side to get the food, and feel free to wait around and pick up a few power-ups if you like considering you have the time. ----------------- Gladiator Garden! ----------------- Food x 5 Enemies x 1 One less item of food to get in this level, but on the flip side a Green Enemy is introduced (it spawns behind the Gladiator statue in the centre). He isn't the fastest of enemies so you can easily out run him, so go around and get the food as you normally would and just keep an eye out for him if he approaches. There are no dead ends in this level so it should be easy enough to evade him. (EXTRA LIFE) --------------- The Boat House! --------------- Food x 5 Enemies x 1 Again there are five items of food to collect and one enemy to avoid. However this is a yellow enemy which is the same speed as you, so he might be tougher to evade. Also note the dead end in the top left; best thing to do is to wait until the Milkshake moves into the main level and collect it there instead of heading up, otherwise only head up there when the enemy is not gonna get to you in time to block you off. ---------- River Riot ---------- Food x 6 Enemies x 2 The level is split into two thanks to the river running through the centre, and each half has an enemy and five items of food. Do the right side first as it's easier to manage and there is a lot more ground to evade the enemies at, and just watch out if you are trying to cross over the other side for being approached there. ------------- Jetty Frenzy! ------------- Food x 4 Enemies x 2 Here the Red Enemy is introduced, of whom is slightly faster than the yellow one which also makes an appearance here. There are plenty of routes to take throughout the level to evade these two however, so this level shouldn't be too tough. Go left, up and right and try and get those three at the top first, then concentrate on the bottom chicken when you can. (EXTRA LIFE) ----------------- The Water Gardens ----------------- Food x 5 Enemies x 2 Nothing you haven't seen before, this level is of a symmetrical design with no dead ends. Just watch out for the yellow and red enemies as you go around and you should be fine. --------------- Privot Parking! --------------- Food x 7 Enemies x 2 There are dead ends in each corner, with the bottom half corners having a path to the dead end. Milkshakes start here, however try and wait until they come out so you won't have to bother going in there. If you do, just ensure there are no enemies anywhere near you. The middle area of the hedges is quite annoying due to poor visibility, so if in doubt just try and stay out of there and stick more to the sides here. ---------------- A Bridge Too Far ---------------- Food x 7 Enemies x 3 Again this is a harder level due to level design, and the fact that all three types of enemies - green, yellow and red make an appearance. Try and look out ahead and go the widest path around the enemies. Watch out for the bottleneck in the right side and the multiple gaps on the left side; if there is an enemy lurking there he can just take a few turns to get to you, so try and keep your distance. -------------- Lakeside Lunch -------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 3 Quite hectic; three enemies, little room and T shaped piers at the top which offer plenty of dead ends to make your work harder. To start with, the Red Enemy will come down and turn left straight away (either through doing so by it's self or by bouncing off the green enemy to the north) so always turn left if you are heading down to avoid him. As for the rest, try and restrain from going up the left and right piers (especially the left) and wait for the food to come down to the main area instead of you heading up. If an enemy follows you, try and hide to the side and if he turns the other way, quickly go out and down. However this is very hard to manage, so if you are going up the side pier's then just ensure no enemies are anywhere near you. Also as a side note, isn't it strange how the pizza on the top right pier spawns from the sea? :P (EXTRA LIFE) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.02. Normal =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------- The Mall -------- Food x 4 Enemies x 3 Three enemies but just four items of food. There aren't any dead ends and there is plenty of routers to go around the place in, so just look ahead and avoid the enemies as much as possible here. Also note that the chains between the bikes (to the left and right sides) are walls, so you cannot walk through them! ------------- Shoppers Rest ------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 3 First off, note that in the central area there are benches at the bottom and in the middle toward the top; you can actually walk through these! Misleading somewhat but very handy here. Try and use this central area to go to the top and bottom areas rather than the sides, as you can easily get blocked off there. At the start the red enemy will most likely come down toward you from the off so head south instead to avoid him for now. ------------------- Car-ry On Shopping! ------------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 2 A new enemy, Blue, appears here. Thankfully he's as quick as the Green Enemy and with just these two guys this should be a walkover. Thee are open spaces where you can walk diagonally here which is quite handy for evading, so use them to your advantage. With just two slow enemies here, this should be a doddle. (EXTRA LIFE) -------------- The Turnstiles -------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 3 As the name of the level suggests the turnstiles at the bottom half of the level feature here, allowing you to walk through them. No dead ends in this level, and with two slow enemies this should be quite easy. -------------- The Clocktower -------------- Food x 4 Enemies x 3 Only a few items of food but nearly just as many enemies join them. You can enter each side of the clocktower although you don't need to go in there at all and due to the big blind spot in the middle I would advise against doing so. You can also enter the market hut in the top right corner (enter in the left side) but again there isn't anything special in there. -------------- Check This Out -------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 3 As five of the items are on the left side of the level around the isles, head down and through the turnstile and grab them. There are also some checkouts in the middle going across to the right which can only be destroyed when walked through from head on. (EXTRA LIFE) ------------------ Return of the Mall ------------------ Food x 6 Enemies x 3 Rather simplistic over all, just head left or right as you start to avoid the red and blue enemies above and below respectively. There are benches on each side by the metal poles which are handy for evasion. ------------------ Greenhouse Effect! ------------------ Food x 6 Enemies x 2 Avoid the greenhouses to the right side due to their blind spots underneath them, but as there are no dead ends there is nothing special here. The fact that there are two enemies here makes it quite a breeze too. ------------------- I've Beens Shopping ------------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 3 There are closed off areas in each corner, each containing an item of food. As they are closed off by turnstiles, nothing can get in nor out apart from you so use these to hide in until the path ahead is set for you to go. Note - I'm sure there is a typo in this level title, either it's meant to be just Been or it could be Beans (as in Baked Beans, due to the nature of the level!) ------------- The Fountains ------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 3 Quite a tough level, as there is a large open area smack in the middle between the two fountains. As enemies are totally unpredictable it means if you are sharing the same space they could just turn to you in a flash. From the start grab one of the drinks either side of you then try and avoid this area as much as you can as two enemies start above and below. There are benches around the side of the level which allow you to evade enemies if needed which is a much needed help. (EXTRA LIFE) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.03. Hard =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------- Crossroads ---------- Food x 4 Enemies x 4 There are two blind spots either side (where it says Max Headroom) so always look ahead if you are going down those side paths, and to help there are two niches you can hide in on the right side, where a clear block encloses them so only you may go in. Although there are as many enemies as there are items of food, think ahead and you'll be fine here. --------------------- England 5 Argentina 0 --------------------- Food x 5 Enemies x 2 Basically one big open level, just steer clear from the two enemies as much as you can. There are some sections on the left that you can weave in and out of to avoid the enemies but just concentrate on avoiding the enemies and get the food when you can. Nice level name as well, Codemasters proud of their English roots. :) ------------- Dizzy Heights ------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 3 There is a red enemy starting at the top of the level, behind the upper most window. Most of the food congregates round there, so if you go up there watch out for the Red Enemy as well. There are two clear blocks in each lower corner which is handy for evasion, as well as two black blocks next to them if you ever need them for whatever reason. (EXTRA LIFE) ------------- Snooker Loopy ------------- Food x 4 Enemies x 4 Another open level like Stage 2, this time you have as many enemies as food which makes things tough. You can walk through the triangle if you want, and note that the pockets around the edge of the table do nothing. Like on the second stage, concentrate on dodging the enemies first and get the food after. --------------------- Look Right, Look Left --------------------- Food x 4 Enemies x 4 An interesting new obstacle here is the road in the middle; F1 cars speed down from the top occasionally so as you cross at the bottom be sure to set off just after they disappear or just as they appear to make it across in time. Enemies and food can't be ran over, but you can (naturally). There are food and bricks trapped by black blocks in the bottom corners; easiest method is to tackle the side one when the food is traveling toward you, giving you enough time to make a run for it. Leave the bottom right one last of all so you don't have to deal with the fast Red Enemy. Also later, the cars alternate down the road but take as much care as you usually would. ----------- The Toy Box ----------- Food x 3 Enemies x 4 You start off enclosed along with the Green Enemy, so get to the central gap and move up or down to smash the black block to escape. Despite the right area being a football patch there are no open areas here, and there are clear blocks on the left side for easy evasion. (EXTRA LIFE) --------------- Level Crossing! --------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 4 There is a train track running down the middle, where a train occasionally travels down. There are two crossing at the top and bottom of the level; try and use the bottom one as much as possible as you have less of a chance of getting ran over, unless you are sure you won't get killed on the top crossing. There are two areas enclosed to the sides of the level, each with an item of food in; enter through the clear block and out of the destroyable black block. Just ensure you don't go down the passage with the black block before destroying it, as it acts as a dead end, meaning if an enemy follows you are finished. ------------------- Pool Table Shuffle! ------------------- Food x 3 Enemies x 5 The pool table is split into two, one is a brick fort and the other has various balls (Snooker and Football). In the brick fort there are is a selection of clear bricks only you can walk through, and if you manage to get on the let straight (between the two yellow horizontal blocks) you can smash down the four black bricks and make more maneuvering room for your- self. You can also travel under the triangle. ---------------- Traffic Trouble! ---------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 4 As soon as you begin, run right to collect one or both of the items of food there, then run left to the far side to break down the two black blocks between yourself and the trapped chicken. As you may have noticed there are train tracks and a road, so both the train and F1 cars make a return - but thankfully with more crossings. Just use the bottom two unless you are certain you won't get killed unexpectedly at the upper crossing. --------------------- Resistance Is Useless --------------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 4 Despite the radical change in theme, there is nothing really too special about this level. You can move through the central two sets of burnt resistors in the centre of the level, and there is an open area where you begin (under the solders) but you have enough running room to evade the enemies effectively here. (EXTRA LIFE) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.04. !!!!!! (Horror) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To play this stage, you must complete Hard mode. -------------------- Dead Centre Of Town! -------------------- Food x 4 Enemies x 4 The level is split into two, with a gate at the bottom only Dizzy can travel through to get between the two areas. Collect the first two items of food here and then head through this gate, where a house is. Avoid going into this house as it's one gigantic blind spot, waiting for the other item of food to appear so you can collect it. ------------------ Going Underground! ------------------ Food x 5 Enemies x 4 There is a dead end in the upper left corner so avoid going there, and just beware of the passages and bridges in case enemies manage to come from ahead to your position. There are also blind spots in the bottom left archways. -------------- Wizard's Tower -------------- Food x 5 Enemies x 4 When you begin, you can only move left. Wait until the Green Enemy in the enclose is down and ran straight left through the gates. Go around and move to the large right area past the Green Enemy again and get the milkshake then. Return to the left side and up; when the Green Enemy is down, enter his area and quickly nudge down and dart up to open the door. The chicken here is free from enemies so collect it now. You have to approach the doors in the upper right corner in a clockwise fashion; open the first door and wonder back and lure the Red Enemy away so you can get the burger and reach the next door, and repeat. If you are quick, you can get the last two items of food one after enough saving time and effort. (EXTRA LIFE) ----------- Tut Tut Tut ----------- Food x 6 Enemies x 4 Note that a Blue Enemy is inside the pyramid, so it may be easier to walk left or right from the start to avoid him. To open the side doors of the pyramid, you have to enter inside and go left or right as you'd need a straight to destroy the blocks. In the upper corners are enclosed areas containing an enemy and milkshake; destroy the block that covers them, lure out the enemy and get the food. ------------- The Body Shop ------------- Food x 5 Enemies x 4 This level is a small nightmare if you haven't a clue about the traps. DO NOT open the central door (just across the bridge to the right of where you start) as it hold a Yellow Enemy; you can open the door but just do not walk any further, as the enemy is trapped in one square. Anyway, when you begin go the left area and get the two items of food. Wait until the Green Enemy comes to this area and once the route ahead is clear, move across to the right side and open the upper right door. Collect the two drinks and hotdog from the top area. The last item of food is hidden inside the upper right room; use the bridge and go up to get it. Do this last as otherwise the Blue Enemy may corner you off before you can reach the upper area. ----------------- Lets Twist Again! ----------------- Food x 5 Enemies x 4 There are several gates throughout this level, one of which enclosing the Yellow Enemy and chicken in the lower left. There aren't any dead ends here or anything special, so just keep an eye out ahead and you should be fine. (EXTRA LIFE) ----------- Slime City! ----------- Food x 5 Enemies x 4 The piping system to the bottom right holds a Green Enemy and two items of food. I would avoid this entirely as it's quite hard to work out where you are and more importantly, what's in there already. Remember that the upper corners are separate from one another and you'll have to go down and across to reach the opposite sides. ----------------- Tomb Many Ghosts! ----------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 4 Everything starts off in the room in the centre; all four enemies and all six items of food. You can either destroy the bricks and wait until it all pans out across the level or just go in there and try and collect all the food in one go. Up to you, but I tend to wait a while for some of the enemies to disperse and get what I can in one trip. However at this late stage in the game, you won't want to risk getting a Game Over easily so judge wisely. --------------- Torture Chamber --------------- Food x 6 Enemies x 4 From the start, the centre is separate from the other corners of the level. Opening the doors connects them, so only do a few to minimise the movement of enemies. However the spike pits across the centre horizontal line of the level always separates, so use this to your advantage. ----------------- Food For Thought! ----------------- Food x 4 Enemies x 4 The final level is a puzzle, where basically every tile looks the same and you have to discover the path yourself. Of course you can actually tell what tile does what; the ones you can walk through are lighter than the walls, and the destroyable blocks have more cracks in than the others. However this is all shown on this map - http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/amiga/file/fast_food_ami_final.gif Otherwise use this ASCII diagram - +---------------+-----------+ |F ||F E| +-----------+ || + + +- | | D || | | | ++ +-------++D-+ -+ +| | | || |S | F| | ++ ++ | | + +- + +| | D | | D | | + +-----D+ |D-------- | |E F| E| +----+----------------------+ S = Starting Point F = Food E = Enemy D = Destroyable Block =============================================================================== ------------------------------ 4. SECRETS AND UNLOCKABLES ------------------------------ =============================================================================== ----------- Extra Lives ----------- After stages 3, 6 and 10 you receive an extra life, as well as an animation which are actually quite good and well thought out. Everyone wins! -------------------- Access !!!!!! Levels -------------------- On the Main Menu there are four selections; Easy, Normal, Hard and !!!!!!. The last area cannot be accessed here, but you have to complete the Hard levels first. These levels are of a Horror theme, such as graveyards, sewers and Egyptian tombs. ----------------------- Unlock Upside Down Mode ----------------------- Complete the game (finish the final level on Horror Mode) and the game will reset at the Easy stages. However the maps will be upside down and the controls will have reversed! =============================================================================== ------------------------------------ 5.
