This is NOT a Walkthrough, so please do not request one. I will not waste my time with one, I simply don't have the time, and I'm more interested in mechanics and other tidbits than a Walkthrough. However, there is a basic rundown of all locations, what to do to progress and what items are contained where. This is ALL I'm going to do, so if you want something more expansive ask someone else or wait for another guide to pop up. My online name is ignasia, also known as ignasia7 (formerly on GameFAQs, though still the same on Dragon's Den), and behindtheword. If you feel a need to contact me, do so through GameFAQs. =============================================================================== DISCLAIMER AND RIGHTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This FAQ should only appear on the following sites: 1) GameFAQs 2) Dragon's Den 3)...we'll see If you wish to copy anything from this, that's fine. I don't require any credit, unless parts are ripped directly, as I have written them. If you copy my organization and layouts, that's fine without any credit, and it keeps things consistent for players going from site to site looking for data. =============================================================================== VERSION HISTORY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0.61= Completed Kiefer's equipment list for all legitimately obtainable equipment via Tablets. 0.6 = Finished the 6th battle section. Filled in the missing drop data for two strength seed droppers from the DLC tablets, filled in discrepancies for seed drop rates in the data versus known and tested drop rates in tablets as you cannot argue with the data. Added in rewards groups to the tablet section. 0.55= A ton of work done on the Monster Vocations section, and a ton of work done filling most of the damage spells and skills in the vocation section though not the skill specific section. Minor tweaks/fixes here and there like improper spelling catches. 0.51= I have no clue what I did, except a few things like finish the haven section. Was working on this in the midst of packing and moving, so sporadic updates/tweaks/etc. There aren't many beyond 0.5. 0.5 = Altered/fixed Falcon Knife Earrings (needs testing to be sure) Finished Providence, Nottagen, and Hubble. Completed the Mini Medal list through Hubble. Added in Treasure chest group list from crafted Tablets. Added in the Resistance Tables for Monster classes. Added in ALL table/formats for Monster classes. Fixed several classes to account for localization changes. Added to the Bug list/tweaked certain bugs like the Maribel/late game bug A few minor fixes/tweaks to the walkthrough. I can't remember what, but there were a pretty good number of minor tweaks. Added in a section specific to the Maribel Bug, and how to fix. Added in character specific data on stat caps in the level section. Expanded the DLC tablet info to include Book listings and some element of boss tactics (best status effects, best defensive buffs, since oomph is 100% universal depending on Str values, and best elements for preference for magic/skills with an element). A lot of additions to the DLC tablet section, including massive expansion A few tweaks to the Estard scenario at the start. A few tweaks and expansions to the Ballymolloy scenario. Tweaked Hanlon's AI description. Started a section devoted just to enemy actions, in just a basic list of what they are and do. Finished the attack portion for now. Super Kiefer section created and completed in a base model form...perhaps more specifics later, but it's competent as a guide. The EGO section is complete, though I plan for a specifics per period of time section later. 0.45= Evasion section done. Working on Al-Balad, Grondal, and El Ciclo. Added in the Resistance Tables. Added a warning about Quicksaves and general saving when in the Download Bar, as Quicksaves will not alter the info on the last "church" save that was loaded by the game, and the download bar does not load the basic party status screens on the bottom screen. Finished the townforms of the Haven. Cleaned it up a little, so it should be less confusing. Also added in all locations for all items found within. Tweaked a few incorrect names for skills. Tweaked the stealing section of the game. All monster passives should be filled in but that was done in .4, however I did fix two. I'm also wrong...evasion is not 100%. There may still be skills that are affected by evasion. I also forgot to tack in hit rate based on the Dazzle effect, which will be added in later. Expanded and spruced up the DLC and Haven tablet section, included info on whether DLC monsters are both exclusive and/or recruitable. Put up a list of potential reasons to potentially consider keeping certain Haven and DLC tablets, at least for a bit of extra time. For some, forever, such as Test of Slime (since Hammer is unique and exclusive to that tablet and only that tablet). Expanded the missable section. Tweaked the drop section a little. Greatly expanded the Contest section. Expanded the Al-Balad scenario by completing the final events in the past and including both a note when they must be complete, and adding them into the Al-Balad scenario when they become available. Removed the Magic Key backtracking, as there is no such backtracking to make. 0.4 = Filled out the stat section. Working on Human vocations. Filled out a lot of seed info. Filled in more of the walkthrough, though sporadically as I haven't been at my desk as I've been trying to play furiously to get through with certain conditions in mind on one runthrough. Will fill the missing data in with a very slow and methodical playthrough after my two main playthroughs are handled. Expanded casino section. Expanded NPC help section. Expanded The Haven section. Added in an optional set of sections to the walkthrough. Expanded the Tablet section, especially covering the types of chests present, and landmasses present in creation. Expanded the casino section. Added the basic locations for enclosure plans. Need to fill them out. Finished the Tombola section, tweaked The Haven a little, finished Alltrades up through the end of the Past events. Finished most of the Ranking contest section. Finished testing and getting more detailed info on the NPCs through High Priestess Jacqueline. Also started up the monster vocation list, and the basic human vocation comparison, though no data is plugged in except for passives. Passive bonuses are filled in for all human jobs. Filled out Hero, also filled out all job requirements for Hero. 0.35= A ton of tinkering I don't recall...added in a Frequently Asked Question section and a Version History. More Walkthrough bits added. Tweaked some of the format designs in the Walkthrough section. Finished Hero. Basic classes done. Added in a section for vocation level titles. 0.3 = First major update, Character data added and nearly complete. Refined the Walkthrough section, added some details to the beginning, like shop info. Completed the special type section over classifications of Undead, Dragon, Flying, and Metal. Expanded the Traveller's Tablet section a bit. There are a lot of other minor details I don't recall. 0.2 = FAQ releases...I don't recall what I had done, but it wasn't much. \_^__^_/-------------------------------------------------------------\_^__^_/ /// \\\ |o> [change.0] List of Changes in the 3DS and Mobile Versions =- 1) Not so much removed as changed, but Hybrid skills and "maturation" status are gone...however these skills have simply been moved to various human and monster classes. 2) Removed some skills and spells, like Massacre, Retaliate, and ParryPass. 3) In battle party chat. 4) Parts of the opening such as the puzzles in the Temple, and a few extra conversations, such as requiring to speak to the Uncle to get his special stone. 5) Reduced the length of the Yggdrasil dungeon, removing the extra passages through the roots. 6) The puzzle sections in the final dungeon. 7) Auto-saved position in field spells. Essentially the PSX saved the last used field spell of the last character to use field spells. Made whistling a touch faster...about 1/2 to 1 second faster, depending on menu lag in the 3DS. -=< Added: >=- 1) Traveller Tablet system, which functions like the Grotto system of DQ9, and contained within can be mini medals, various weapons and armour of extreme rarity, rare monsters, special maps that are good for making money or experience farming. 2) 457 Monsters total, adding an additional 114 monsters via the special Travellers Tablets. 2) Special Travellers Tablet Maps that add new dungeons and expand story elements from the original game, including a few that deal with Kiefer. For the US and Europe, Nintendo will be putting these out over time, there are apparently 50 of them. 3) New weapons, armor, accessories, and items. A majority of this new stuff is exclusive to the special Travellers Tablets. 4) Tombola mini-game. 5) Treasure chests on the world map, ala Dragon Quest VIII. -=< Changed: >=- 1) Monster Meadows is changed drastically to allow warping to different environments. 2) Monster hearts can be dropped before Monster Meadows opens. 3) Human classes have had their job point requirements cut by 1/2 to 1/3 depending. 4) Human classes have vastly expanded the number of available skills and spells for each, and upper tier classes have fixed skills and apparently some fixed spells. This renders some higher tier human classes viable and usable in the end and post game that weren't as valuable before. 5) Monster classes let you learn all skills and spells permanently. Note that not all fixed human skills are represented in the monster skill trees. 6) Battles take place in standard 1st person when actions are being selected, and switches to a 3rd person isometric view that shifts the camera depending on the action to make it more cinematic. Very different cinematic feel than 8's and 9's camera movement. 7) Many shops have been altered and "rebalanced". 8) Enemies have fluid and constant battle animations. As well both human and enemy models are 3D. 9) The world map/boat/flying maps are more in line with the DQ8 and 9 changes. 10) Like DQ9, enemies appear on screen. In the Mobile this removed and random battle triggers are restored. 11) Human classes now have their own special models that show up in battle, towns/castles, dungeons, and on the field. These are unlocked the moment a character takes up a particular class. Ala DQ3 original! Character models cannot be altered by changing equipment like in DQ9 and with some costumes in DQ8. 12) Township was altered and streamlined to be more like DQ4's remake. Has a lot of new features as well. 13) Casino games were slightly altered, like with all DQ remakes, especially slots, which are apparently still forgiving and token happy, but not as much as they were. They DO give out more tokens per win however, just like with DQ6's changes. 14) Some tweaks to certain armour resistance bonuses. 15) The beginning was streamlined, as with all DQ's, especially 6's remake. Sadly, this means the puzzle elements of the Temple are removed. 16) A few extra dungeons were streamlined, including the tree dungeon and the final dungeon (removed the puzzle rooms in the final dungeon). 17) Regenstein's scenario was shortened, only allowing the three core NPC stories to be seen, before all NPC stories could be seen by touching them. 18) Added a few new skills to the roster from other games, like Miracle Slash, Helm Splitter, and Toxic Dagger. 19) Orph/L'Arca's scenario was changed so the Woodsman/Woodcutter's talks with the real animals always leads to the right story order, rather than hoping to hit the right animals to get the story in full, and typically require his repeating the story in the right order to fully break it down. Makes it much easier to handle. 20) The Likeness of the Great Evil's opening puzzle was dumbed down from having to take statues from the center and pick the right places in the right order, from each of the corner rooms, based on the inscription in the center, to simply pressing buttons from one room to the next. 21) When collecting the third Yellow Fragment, it is no longer necessary to speak to the sailor at the docks first, instead just head straight home and talk to Pollock. 22) Maribel no longer forces the "Party Chat" conversation, assuming the player uses party chat prior to nearing the stairs leading to the 2nd and 3rd levels of Pilchard. 23) Maribel learns Bang instead of Retaliate, which was removed. Making her far more formidable. 24) Many formerly "free" skills now cost a minute amount of MP. 25) Walking speed reversed, with overworld the faster, roughly 1.2x town/ dungeon speed. In the original Town/Dungeon was about 1.2x faster than overworld walking speed. 26) No more pause period in Faraday between the 3x special Automata and the Tinpot Dictator battle, allowing the party to heal. 27) Big Book of Beasts can now be used anywhere, anytime. No need to be outside in the field to open it. Contains substantially more information as well. 28) The game tracks a lot of data, useful for post-game completionist and challenge purposes, like hitting the highest potential damage in a single hit, or the most damage in a single round. 29) Alltrades Abbey has all doors in the lower floors locked, whereas in the original, only the lower doors were locked in the basement treasure room, while the doors just under the stairs leading to 1F were open to loot. 30) In the El Ciclo scenario, when entering the Greenthumb area, the monsters are the same as in El Ciclo, whereas in the original, they retained the same Greenthumb monsters as the original scenario. 31) To make up for some of the earlier easier puzzles, Pomposo's tower's 4F puzzle was altered from a very simple maze to a relatively complex position and orientation puzzle. 32) In this version, unlike the PSX, and unlike DQ6 (SFC/DS/Mobile), the game keeps track of total battle counts when leveling vocations. So, unlike DQ6 and the PSX version, if a character is a vocation, has X number of battles towards the next vocation level, that battle count is retained. Before it was reset, and the full battle count would have to be repeated, so it was recommended to stick with a class until mastered, or a new level was reached. 33) Wetlock allows returning to the present day. 34) Sunken Citadel puzzles are simplified, and the throw mechanic is removed. 35) Wetlock's temporary submerged ocean now has the base level ocean monsters instead of the more difficult monsters from the PSX version. 36) Wetlock now changes the ocean level cap, whereas before the ocean retained the same level cap all the way through until the final events transpired. 37) Gracos V is no longer a temporary fight, and has been changed to a full Boss classification. He can be fought at any time, even at the end of the game, whereas before, after the awakening/revival of The Almighty, he would just give his gifts without a fight. 38) The push button room in the Pillar of Sulkk was simplified from an actual puzzle to just a simple one after another push to open the next door. 39) Falcon Knife Earrings reduced to .75x per hit from the standard 1x per hit. 40) Name changes (since most are changed, I left in the ones that remain the same): ((< PLACES >)) Ruin Temple -> Shrine of Mysteries - -> Graveyard of Earth and Fire *NEW AREA* - -> Graveyard of Wind and Water *NEW AREA* Rainbow Cove -> Shrine of Mysteries: Rainbow Cove Fishbel -> Pilchard Bay - -> Shoreside Shrine *NEW AREA* Estard Castle -> Estard Woodsman's House -> Woodcutter's Hut Odd Forest -> The Oddwoods Rexwood -> Ballymolloy Engow -> Emberdale Dialac -> Regenstein SimTown -> The Haven Orph -> L'Arca Jetty -> Dock Near L'Arca Brugeo's Mansion -> Palazzo di Bulgio Falrod Castle -> Faraday Castle Falrish -> Frobisher Zebbot's Lab -> Royal Institute of Automatry Clockmech Site -> Automaton Stronghold Verdham -> Greenthumb Gardens Mentare -> Wilted Heart Ruins (of Verdham) -> Ruins Near Wilted Heart Inn (formerly Swamp Cave) -> La Maison Grodie Path to Monastery -> Mountain Path Near Wilted Heart Abandoned Shack -> Ruin Near Wilted Heart Cave (Path to Monastery) -> Cave Near Wilted Heart Geionne Monastery -> Regrette-Rien Convent Deja Camp -> Roamer Encampment Church -> Church Near Mountain Pass Altar -> Pool of the Cave Excavation Pit -> Dig Site Inn (near Dharma) -> Pilgrim's Rest Dharma Temple -> Alltrades Abbey Penal -> Pilgrim's Perdition Mt. ! - Right chest has the Cannibox.
Due to an issue in the game's coding, avoid this chest until either after
defeating the dungeon Bosses. Or, when enemies can spawn, make sure to
move near the chest, but wait for a spawn before opening it, to assure
nothing spawns on top of the heroes. If nothing within 3 seconds, feel
free to open. If a spawn occurs nearby but doesn't trigger a battle, feel
free to open. If a spawn occurs on top of the party, DO NOT press the A
button until the normal battle finishes. Then wait again, roughly 3
seconds, to see if another spawn occurs before opening.

29) Enter, walk forward to the first ramp to trigger a scene.
30) Walk down to the entry, enter and proceed inside.
31) On B1, speak to the Automaton at the bottom to trigger the Southern-most
    lift.
32) On B2, from the center lift, speak to the two Automata blocking the North
    doorway to proceed.
33) Enter, and prepare as proceeding North down the central path will trigger a
scene, and 3 consecutive battles, including a Sub-Boss and Boss.
34) Exit and head to Faraday.

@ - Be sure to collect the two Mini Medals, as there's no returning until much
later, and even then, the part that is submerged is only accessible twice,
and not until VERY late, and once submerged a second time, is permanently
gone, so best to loot now.
! - Do not forget to pick up the Yellow Fragment, though it's fairly obvious,
as it resides right in the path to exit, after placing the chimes to drain
    the water.

21) On B3, after the epitath, and circling around to a Y-junction, head down
the East path. In the second Y-junction, take the West path. The NW path
is a dead-end, but has treasure.
22) Talk to the Epitath to unlock the hidden bridges.
23) On the lowest floor, approach the altar in the north to trigger a scene.
24) Exit to the South, and MAKE SURE TO PICK UP THE TABLET on the second flight
    of stairs.
25) Given this is a Temporary Dungeon...after placing the Chimes, make sure to
grab the chests at the 1F entryway that was blocked previously by water.
There are only three of them.
26) After climbing back up, exit South through the now opened Southern exit in
    the second room of 1F.

39) Head North and speak to either Hadid or the lady for a scene. This cannot
be avoided in the 3DS version. Even walking around will trigger the scene.
40) Walk straight into the center island, and up to the pedestal. Open the
item menu and click on the Seal of the Sands.
    - SW door, press the switch
    - NE door, press the switch
    - SE door, press the switch
    - NW door, press the switch
    - North center door, head up the stairs to 2F
    - Around to the West or East, then North and up the stairs to 3F
    - South and down the stairs to 2F
    - Press the switch, exit the door, then around West or East and South to
      stairs up to 3F
    - South and West to trigger a scene, then enter and speak to Queen Fertiti,
then head South, East, then North. Note that this section has trap doors
that drop the party to the lower floor. The easy path to the stairs is
to go all the way to the SW corner of the damage tile path, then enter
the damage tile path about 4 steps North, then East to the wall, then
straight North to the stairs going up to 4F. For the Chest, it's easier
to take the damage tile path just under the stairway leading up.
    - South and around, enter the room for chests, then around again to the
      stairs up to 5F
    - East, then South, ignore the upper path, then West to a chest, and out

scene, then up the stairs to 6F
    - Follow the winding path to the stairs leading up to 7F
    - Head towards the doorway, then exit for a scene and heal up and speak to
      Setesh when ready.

 - To return: open the door in the NE of the first area.

14) To proceed, the fastest method.
    - West to a chest, South to the warp tile leading to Area 2
    - Follow the path to a chest, then continue on to a warp tile back to
      Area 1
    - West and North to two pots, then all the way South, then East until
reaching the special yellow tile with a green diamond, use it to drop to
the lower level. Open the chest for a battle, then head South to a warp
tile and two yellow squares with green diamonds. To return to the start
drop off either of the two yellow squares. To proceed to Area 3, take
      the warp tile.

        - Pick up the chests on the way around, and take the warp that appears

        - NOTE: if you wait too long there's a chance the map might bug and the
warp won't appear. If so, return to the previous room, then

 - TIP, if you're having trouble, try putting the Sidewinders to sleep first,
   then taking them out.
