The game depicts nudity and this guide does not ignore that fact. If you are morally opposed to nudity or are otherwise not legally able to view or read about it, please stop reading here and click the "back" button to return to the previous page. I tried my best to avoid using vulgar language throughout this guide, but there are times where I felt it necessary to convey the exact message the game had, using language that would be considered offensive to some. Please be aware that by reading past this point, you are doing so at your own risk and you may find objectionable words. I cannot be held responsible if you find this guide to go against your morals and convictions. You have been warned. I would like to say that this guide, as well as the other guides for adult 3DO titles I have written are 100% serious. I have received some e-mails making light of them. I have an appreciation for the worst of the worst in the video game world, and that includes awful pornographic titles for a failed system. I wrote this guide and all the others in the interest of preserving this shameful, yet hilarious, part of video game history. Almost every person I have ever had conversation with has never heard of, let alone imagined, pornographic video games. These guides are to help you understand what they are about, exactly, and help you realize that they are really not erotic at all, especially when compared to what is available on the internet today. This guide is intended to help you understand the story (what little bit there is) within this game. If you are looking for a detailed description of sexual acts, I suggest you look elsewhere. This guide is intended for those of us who are mature enough to look at breasts without gaping mouths and snide remarks. As always, I welcome feedback. You can reach me by e-mail at Arguro AT hotmail.com or on MSN messenger at the same address. I am not always at my computer, so please be patient; I will respond at some point. ***Update!!!*** No one uses instant messenger anymore. I don't think it is even a thing these days. Just e-mail me, assuming THAT is still a thing... Also, I have to say that I am a little embarrassed to have produced so many walkthroughs and story analysis/FAQs for titles such as these. I guess I was a little defiant against authority in my twenties and that was my way of striking back against The Man! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Controls (CONT) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the introduction screen, there will be a picture of the cover of the game on the screen. A voice over says, "When ever you have need of anything, and better it be when the moon is full, then shall meet someone in some secret place and adore the spirit of me, who am the queen of all witches." There is some foreshadowing here. We can assume that this girl we are watching is a witch, if the voice over that we heard is actually that of her thoughts. Since she is the Queen, she must have the most potent powers. She proceeds upstairs and knocks on the door of another blond girl. In an innocent masquerade, the presumed witch asks, "So, you looking for a roommate?" The other girl responds, "Well I planned on placing an ad that my boyfriend moved out, but I hadn't got around to it yet. I guess you're in luck." "Well great! When do I move in? I'll bring my stuff right up!" is the response from the first girl. I am no expert, but I know a girl cannot just walk into an apartment building and find someone who is in need of a roommate without having met her before. However, a witch may just have psychic abilities. What we see next are several images of dancing half naked witches. The fire I understand, the monastery makes some sense, but why does it look like one girl is dancing with a billiards cue? I think it is supposed to be a broom, but it certainly doesn't look that way. What can be very confusing here is the entire point of this seemingly random scene. However, I think it conveys a couple of key messages: firstly it shows that the seductiveness of women is very powerful, almost like a spell in fact; secondly I think this scene is actually somewhat of a flashback to the Queen of the Witches placing her spell over the second girl (Apartment Girl for lack of a better term), causing what happens in the next scene. The first scene, then, occurs chronologically after this current scene which occurs before the next scene. Within these scenes are quick shots of half naked women dancing by a fire, which is a prominent theme in a later chapter. There is a bit of a seamless transition from the second to the third scenes, so you have to watch carefully. It goes from half naked witches dancing to bacon and eggs being cooked. There is nothing that gets men going more than half naked women turning into bacon..... We will quickly see that Apartment Girl is the one behind the skillet. She is making breakfast for a man who appears to be living with her. This must be her boyfriend whom she said moved out in the first scene, which is why this scene MUST fall chronologically before the first scene. It starts out as a happy encounter between the two. Every couple of seconds the screen will flash to various naked women making various hand gestures and riding (in more ways than one) broom sticks that look like billiards cues. These scenes are somewhat of a personification of the mental powers that the witches have induced on Apartment Girl. As the scene goes on, the boyfriend will begin to make a move on Apartment Girl, sucking on her nipples in a sensual fashion that will eventually lead them into the bedroom. While in the middle of intercourse, Apartment Girl will get frustrated and throw her boyfriend off the top of her. All the while we see more images of witches inflicting their spells on her. Unfortunately, we cannot here the dialogue here, but I think it is something along the standard lines of a breakup, 'it's not you, it's me' sort of thing. We do see a random shot of a man and woman in the country side by a car getting sensual, so there may be some sort of 'there's somebody else' involved. The man does appear to be the boyfriend and the girl is clearly not Apartment Girl. This may have been an image planted in Apartment Girl's head by the Witch Queen, or this may have really happened and the Witch Queen used her spell casting abilities to show her this. Apartment Girl gets up and leaves with her boyfriend running behind her (watch out, guy butt can be seen). After a few more witch scenes spliced in, they make it up to the roof of their building and have a huge argument, barely dressed. Apartment Girl is clearly done with her boyfriend and essentially tells him to leave. At the end of the scene we see him walking down the road from above. A window opens and Apartment Girl throws out a backpack of his belongings, almost hitting him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2 (CHP2) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter two starts out right where chapter one ended with the boyfriend picking up the backpack and leaving. A voice over proclaims, "You have forgiven. I do summon, stir, and call you out to guard the circle. Guardian of this house, watch over it in the year to come 'til again the bell fire is extinguished and relieved. Bless this house and be blessed by it. Let all who love here and all friends who are welcomed here prosper under this roof. So won't it be?" While we hear this, we see apartment girl leaving through what looks like a very bad part of town and suddenly we several women having sex near a fire. They also talk in tongues, casting spells with the witch queen. Strangely, we see what looks like the boyfriend standing there as one of what appear to be man-servants to these witches. This is probably the most erotic scene in the movie, in my opinion anyway. It is a look into the sexual side of the initiation into the Coven of Witches. We hear a voice over saying what can be assumed to be the sacred oath: "Ye lords of the Watch Towers of the South; Ye lords of Fire; Ye lords of the Watch Tower of the West; Ye lords of Water; Ye lords of Initiation. Blessed be thy feet that have brought me in these ways. Blessed be thy knees that shall kneel at the sacred alter. Blessed by they wound that without which, we would not be." This can be interpreted as a calling to the spirits of nature to accept one into the witches circle. Saying this chant and pleasing the Witch Queen sexually will bring you into the favor of the witches. "Blessed be thy breasts formed in beauty; Blessed be thy lips that shall utter the sacred names," is what makes up the next part of the oath. In this part, in addition to seeing random girls, we see Apartment Girl as well as the Witch Queen engaging in sexual acts. The last part of the oath is what we heard at the very beginning, "Whenever Ye have need of anything once in the month and better it be when the moon is full then shall we assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of me, for I am Queen of all Witches." Now we have flashbacks to the Witch Queen on the beach again before we see her and Apartment Girl walking in the streets and running on the beach. We have now jumped ahead to when the Witch Queen moved into the apartment. The two of them have now become lovers. We see the boyfriend show backup at the apartment while Apartment Girl is doing her witch meditation. He is confused and angered at the strange things he sees, including sexual objects. We see flashbacks to the morning they broke up, when they were having sex. These are his memories of what the last happy moments with her were like, before she succumbed to the Witch Queen's spell. Apartment Girl makes the boyfriend reluctantly leave. On his was out, the Witch Queen comes in through the door and their eyes meet. It is at this moment that the boyfriend realizes he was dumped by Apartment Girl for another woman and he hands over his keys for the apartment. Next we see a very intimate scene between the two apartment dwelling lovers which, strangely, takes place on the roof. We can assume that this is the Witch Queen forcing Apartment Girl to have sex with her to prove her allegiance to the Coven, to which Apartment Girl gladly commits. It is interesting that we see the two of them 'trib' or rub their genitalia against one another's. This is the only case that I know of where sex actually occurs (or at least is faked well enough) in a Vivid Interactive title for the 3DO. While you do not actually see their private areas, this is the first time they have ever shown sexual relations below the waist shown in one of their titles. Spiced throughout will be more scenes similar to chapter one where the spell of the Witch Queen is being placed on the mind of Apartment Girl. We are then shown apartment girl walking through the gratified part of town thinking back to her initiation. This ends chapter two. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 3 (CHP3) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter three is mostly comprised of the Coven's initiation and their seductive rituals. This chapter further proves the point that a witches' sexuality is indeed her strongest spell. We see many men standing and watching, not taking part in the rituals or the sex. We can assume that they are indeed man-servants of the witches and that the women only use them as slaves, but never for sex. Sex with other women appears to be the way of choice for these witches. The scene is very lengthy and is mostly a rehash of everything already shown in tiny clips in the previous two chapters, and does seem to repeat itself many times. We see Apartment Girl and the Witch Queen here many times. The music will begin to slowly die down and we are shown another clip of the two lesbian witches walking in the streets. Spliced in are rehashed clips of everything we've seen up to this point, including the seductive dances that personify the witches mystical powers. This goes on for several minutes before the whole thing concludes in rather unspectacular fashion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What exactly is this game? A: The Coven is one of a handful of pornographic titles released by Vivid Interactive for the 3DO. Q: How erotic is the game? A: When compared to other Vivid Interactive games, it is much more erotic than those, but it is nowhere close to what I would call erotic by any means. Q: How much nudity is there? A: There are copious shots of women's breasts from many angles. That is about it. There are a few shots of women in thongs and one very quick shot of a naked man from the backside. You do not see any genitalia whatsoever. Q: I live in a region that did not see this game in retail stores. Can I import it and play it? A: Yes, you should be able to. As far as I know, there is no regional lockout on the 3DO and any game from any region can be played on any system. There may be issues with video playback, though, and since this game is ALL video playback, you could very well experience issues. Q: Does this game comply to Section 18 of the United State Code 2257 Record Keeping Requirements Compliance Statement? A: Because this game was produced before July 3rd, 1995 they are not subject to this law. Q: Does Vivid Interactive still produce games today? A: As far as I know, Vivid Interactive is no longer producing anything for any video game system and no current system allows adult only titles to be produced for it. They do, however, produce a number of adult video titles to this day and are considered one of the larger, well known adult entertainment companies. Q: Where can I get a copy of this game? A: If you want this game, you will have to buy it on eBay as it is not for sale in any retail stores. Be aware that this game will cost a lot as it has pretty high value amongst collectors due to it being fairly rare and of an adult subject matter. Expect to pay no less than $40 US. Q: What would you suggest as an alternative adult title for the 3DO? A: In North America, Neurodancer! Journey into the Neuronet is a little bit better because it actually has elements of gaming and makes you work for the nudity. However, the women aren't as attractive. If you have access to Japanese titles, I like the Virtual Cameraman series as they do present quite a bit of a challenge, especially if you can't read a word of Japanese like me. Oneesan to Issho! Janken Paradise is also an interesting title that is essentially strip Rock, Paper, Scissors. It does not require that you have any knowledge of Japanese to play, but you may not get the full experience. It makes you work for the nudity, but not as much as Virtual Cameraman does. Stay away from any of Vivid Interactive's other titles as well as Plumber's Don't Wear Ties. Q: Are there any cheats or codes for this game? A: I do not know of any. If there were, I cannot imagine what they would do, other than possibly show the credits. Q: What other titles did Vivid Interactive produce for the 3DO? A: The other known titles are as follows: Blonde Justice, Endlessly, Immortal Desire, Love Bites, Mind Teazzer, Sex, and Supermodels Go Wild. There are also two known preview titles called 'Samplers' which are compilations of the video seen in several of their titles. There are also at least two unreleased titles: Raquel Released and Winner Takes All. Q: Can I host this guide on my site? A: No. I do not allow anyone to use my guides without expressed, written permission. I do not give permission unless I am asked, specifically, about this guide. I do not like automated e-mails. I will most likely only allow my guide to be hosted on a small website, usually one centered around the game or system my guide is for. For more information, see the Copyright section of this guide, at the bottom. Use of this guide without my permission is considered theft and will be reported to the proper authorities. Q: How do I contact you about this guide? A: E-mail is the best way to do so. My e-mail can be found at the beginning or the end of this guide, just remember to take the numbers 123 out of it because they do not belong. I keep them there to prevent auto scanning websites from obtaining my e-mail address. Alternatively, you can also contact me via MSN using the same e-mail address or on AIM using the screen name ArguroDeXill. While I am almost always online, I am not always at my computer and it may take as many as 8 hours to get a reply from me. Just be patient if this is the contact method of choice. I am not ignoring you, simply doing something away from the computer. Q: What other guides have you done? A: Just simply click on the name Arguro at the very top or the very bottom (orange text in a black box) of this guide and it will take you to my contributor page. From there you can see all the different things I have contributed to Gamefaqs. Q: I really like your guides. Can I donate money to you in support? A: If you really want to, you can send a Pay Pal payment to my e-mail address which is at the top or bottom of this guide. Please understand that any donated money does not mean I will name you in my guide. It also does not mean I will do any special work for you and it certainly does not give you any rights to host this guide or publish it anywhere. I do not want the user to feel obligated to pay me in any means. This is a free guide for personal, private home use. I will not reject your offer to pay me, but I do not want you to feel it is necessary. If you do decide to donate to me, please only donate what amount you are comfortable with, even if it is a single penny. Once a donation is made, it is final and there will be no refunds. This is an odd question and I debated about adding it for a long time, but when I saw other FAQ authors had a similar question, I felt it would be a valid addition. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version History ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version 1.00 completed on June 10, 2010 at 11:57 am Mountain Time Version included the guide in full, including all sections (introduction, controls, plot analysis, FAQs, version history and copyright information).
