Natsume, who were also responsible for releasing the Zen Nippon Pro Wrestling series and Natsume Championship Wrestling on both the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom Entertainment systems, attempted to create a brand new Wrestling franchise with a greater emphasis on Wrestling promotions outside of Japan. The result was Royal Pro Wrestling: a 2D Pro-Wrestling title that featured gameplay closely inspired by the classic button masher Wrestling titles of the late 1980's with unofficial inclusions of Wrestling greats such as Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Bruiser Brody, Tiger Mask and even legendary Luchador El Santo. The Wrestler will then run towards the ring ropes where the opponent is and dive outside the ring performing their Suicida move. Not every Wrestler has a Suicida move. C: Suicida (running while opponent is outside ring) --------------------------------------------------- ======================================================== ****** GAMEPLAY ****** ======================================================== ========= Grapples: ========= Grapples are performed by approaching a Wrestler directly or from behind and initiating a lockup. During a lockup, both Wrestlers must quickly press buttons in order to successfully pull off one of their grapple moves. For lockups, I recommend focusing on pressing the input for one desired move (Up + A repeatedly , for example) instead of mashing buttons randomly. ========== Head Grab: ========== Performing a Head Grab allows either Wrestler to throw their opponent without the need to initiate a lockup. When either Wrestler is close enough, pressing C will initiate a Head Grab where a Wrestler reaches their hand out to grab the opponent; creating a small window of time where the Wrestler can perform some of their strongest moves (by then pressing A or C + Up/Down/Left or Right). The downside to the Head Grab technique is, if a Wrestler does not input their desired grapple move quick enough after grabbing their opponent, the opponent can counter and reverse the Head Grab. =========== Irish Whip: =========== Attacks/grapples performed after Irish Whipping an opponent are predetermined by the directional button pressed during the Irish Whip. For example, pressing Left/Right + B with Johnny Warrior (Road Warrior Animal) will automatically perform Warrior's Clothesline while pressing Down + B will automatically perform Warrior's finishing move "Scoop Powerslam". ========= Headlock: ========= By pressing Up + A during a lockup, a Wrestler can put their opponent into a Headlock; during which, a Wrestler can drag their opponent around the ring in any direction for a small window of time. After the small window of time has ended, a normal lockup will then be initiated. This trick is great for keeping an opponent away from tagging in their partner during tag matches. ========= Managers: ========= A handful of American Wrestlers feature their own manager that can be found outside the ring at every match. The managers are: Mr. Fuji (for Yokozuna), Jimmy Hart (for Hulk Hogan) & Paul Bearer (The Under taker). The Managers cannot be controlled by the player but will attack and distract the opponent while they are outside the ring. It is also possible to attack a manager, too. ======================================================== ****** MAIN MENU ****** ======================================================== =================== WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: =================== Face the entire roster over three different Wrestling promotions to win the Triple Crown. Each match will also be reviewed by each promotion's Booker. =========== TOURNAMENT: =========== Compete in an elimination style tournament. =========== EXHIBITION: =========== Standard 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 versus mode. ========= TUTORIAL: ========= Learn gameplay mechanics and other useful techniques. ======= OPTION: ======= Configure various in-game settings. ________________________________________________________ =================== WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: =================== In World Championship mode, the player(s) must face the entire roster of Wrestlers in the singles or tag team division over three different promotions. Each match will be graded by the promotion's Booker. The Bookers for each promotion are: ____________ ___________ ____________ | | | | | | | WWA | | JAW | | MDLL | | (WWF/WCW) | |(NJPW/AJPW)| | (CMLL) | |____________| |___________| |____________| | Rich Flair | | Big Kiba | | Elon En | |____________| |___________| | Mascarada | |____________| The quality of each match is graded by the audience's reaction which is displayed by a health meter at the top of the screen mid-fight. Blue represents great, green is good, yellow - poor, red and no bar whatsoever is abysmal. A flashing meter is excellent and indicates that the audience is truly excited. During the match, the crowd reaction meter will increase and decrease depending on the moves both Wrestlers perform. As Wrestler(s) travel from promotion to promotion, the audience will also become more demanding and thus, harder to please. The crowd reaction meter decreases when: * A move or finisher is repeated too often * a match is won without a Wrestler's finisher * a match is won too quickly * a match is Won by countout * heel tactics are used such as: stomping an opponent constantly or using a weapon often * either Wrestler climbs the turnbuckle and then climbs down * a Wrestler uses a move that has little effect on the opponent (example: Irish Whipping Dos Caras) * a move is botched such as colliding into an opponent during a clothesline or setting up a running counter too early. For best results, always try to keep the crowd reaction meter flashing or blue in color. At the end of each match, the Wrestler(s) will be shown backstage with the promotion's Booker. The Booker will then grade the quality of the match with the following bar: _______________________ | | | | [][][][] | [][][][][] | |__________|____________| A positive mark will be recorded with a gold star that will be displayed on the right side of the meter while a black star will be recorded on the left side of the meter. If the player gets four black stars in a row, the game is over. Getting a bad mark will play a unique BGM track as the Booker berates the Wrestler[s] after the match while a decent or great mark will play the Wrestler(s) theme song. Getting the best possible mark will result in the Booker applauding the Wrestler(s) by clapping their hands. Getting five gold stars in a row will treat the Wrestler (s) with a special magazine cover from that promotion indicating that the Wrestler(s) have achieved main event status. Once the Wrestler or tag team reaches the WWA promotion in World Championship mode, in true Western fashion, a series of promos featuring each opponent will be displayed before the start of the match. Almost every Wrestler or Tag Team has two promos to listen to and can be alternated by resetting the game, continuing or playing through World Championship mode multiple times. To see the true ending, all three promotions must be completed. ________________________________________________________ =========== TOURNAMENT: =========== Compete in a sixteen man elimination style tournament. A Singles tournament features sixteen individual Wrestlers while the Tag Tournament features eight tag teams. Up to four human players can compete in Tournament mode. When selecting a match where only computer opponents are participating, the game will prompt the following question: Skip? A) YES B) NO The arena for Tournament mode is automatically set to the Tournament arena; a venue that looks similar to the theme of Wrestlemania IX from 1994. Completing Tournament mode will also show the game's ending. ________________________________________________________ =========== EXHIBITION: =========== The standard versus mode of the game. The Tutorial will take place in a special training stage. Lesson 1) Lockup and perform a grapple with A three times. Lesson 2) Lockup and perform a grapple with C three times. Lesson 3) Lockup and perform a "Headlock" (Up + C) then walk around the ring with the opponent still in it. Lesson 4) Peform a Headlock then press A, B or C to grapple the opponent three times. Lesson 5) Perform a Headlock then drag the opponent towards the bottom ring ropes to through them out with A. Lesson 6) Spar against the instructor until they dismiss the match. After completing all six lessons, the tutorial will be complete. ________________________________________________________ ======= OPTION: ======= Press right to access any of the following settings then press up or down to adjust them.
